Apple Mail starts automatically

Hello! I have the problem that since the last update for OS 10.3.9 the application mail starts automatically after turn on the mac. Theres no alias in the autostart an no script. Did anybody knows this problem? Thanks.

Hello marcobley,
"Theres no alias in the autostart an no script"
I am not sure what you mean by "autostart". Do you mean that the Mail application is not listed under System Preferences>Accounts>Startup Items tab?
If it is listed there you can use the "-" sign after you have selected it in the list to delete it.
Post back and try to explain further if not,

since upgrading to OS lion, my mac book pro (2010 August) keeps freezing (non responsive, requires restart) when i turn on my mac and the system is trying to open apple mail. while apple mail is attempting to collect new mail, the macbook pro freezes. this happens every 2nd time i try to start up my computer. this only started happening after i upgraded to OS lion. please let me know what I need to do to fix this. being forced to restart every 2nd time i turn on my macbook pro has been very frustrating. not sure if apple mail is also the cause of my macbook pro for being very slow during start-up (on the occasion the computer doesn't freeze).

I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

  • Apple mail and automatically downloads attachments

    Ho to all
A friend of mine started to work with Apple Mail but he has found an option he wishes to remove: the "automatic downloads attachments size".
He wants that ALL email's attachment are downloaded without click on it ( if they are big...)
    Any suggestion?
    best regards
    Rob
I want XServe back in production.... :-((

    Rob,
Is your friend using a POP mail account?
In Mail>Prefreences>Accounts>Advanced he should uncheck "Prompt me to skip messages..."

  • Apple mail starts empty, everything gone

I have a big problem with my email, hope someone can help! Normally I have 3 mailaccounts in my inbox (imap and pop). But when I restarted my Imac, apple mail came up empty. All accounts were gone, but it automatically filled in the mobile me account that I have not used in ages. The mobile me account has never been in my inbox before, so that's pretty weird.
I have looked in my user library and all mailboxes are in the database. But when I look in my system library the mail folder is empty. It looks like it does not see the data in my user library.
Does anybody have a solution? Should I copy all the data and put in the system library? I don't know because it used to recognise all the data in my user library.
    Thanks in advance!
    Rik

Hello and welcome to the Discussions.
First of all, how much free space do you have on your hard drive, or if partitioned, on the boot partition? If while Mail was doing its housekeeping, inadequate space was available, the plist where setup info is locate could have been overwritten. This could happen if some other app were temporarily using lots of disk space. It would also happen if you lost power to the iMac before housekeeping tasks were finished.
Re-enter all your account setup data again, and decline to import anything, and Mail should rediscover these existing account folders with messages. If you have a backup of the Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file you can restore that to replace the new one created with the MobileMe info, and then launch Mail.

  • Apple tv starts automatically

I installed my new aple tv3. All works. The only problem I have, the appl tv starts every 10 minutes for about 20 seconds. I have it conneccted via lan and fix ip-adress. It happens also, when the tv is switched off and ther is nothing in the network. Before I had the apple tv 2 and never saw the light going on automaically. I called apple, but they don't know about this. Has anyone a idea? thanks

But how can I avoid this. I always see the lamp switichng on. I'm quite sure, that this wasn't so with my apple tv2.

  • Apple Mail starts up automatically!

I don't use Mail, although I did try it once and have accounts defined it in. Weirdly, about once a month (randomly - no schedule that I can determine), I come in to work and see that Mail was run (the app opened) by itself during the night! Physical security is not an issue - it's not being done manually by anyone. What could cause Mail to start up on its own from time to time??

Do you use "to dos" in iCal? If you do and configure it to notify you by email when a to do experies, it will use the Mail app to send it (and therefor automatically launch it).

  • Microsoft Exchange Apple Mail not automatic

While use Microsoft Exchange for gmail my Apple Email address mail server will not sync automatic.
If I not choice Microsoft Exchange so my Apple Email Mail Service will sync automatic?
    Am I right?

    Same problem here.
I found a workaround that seemed to work for me:
    - Delete Office 365 Exchange Account
    - Go into ~/Library/Mail and delete the folders associated with your Exchange account, empty trash.
    - Follow these directions to force re-index mail for your other accounts:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14876
    - Quit, restart
    - Add account again
    - Give it enough time to download all emails/attachments
    YMMV, good luck!

  • HT2500 Some months ago, my Apple Mail started downloading duplicate messages every time it checked for mail. It doesn't happen to my gmail, but happens to my POP account. What happened or what did I do to cause this and how do I stop the downloading of du

How do I get Applemail to stop downloading duplicate messages.  It only started doing this 4 months ago.  It didn't happen for 5 years before and doesn't happen to my gmail account.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • Why is Mail opening automatically in Mountain Lion?

I don't use Apple Mail under Mountain Lion (just Gmail online), but I do have several Google accounts configured, which I use for contacts and calendar.
Several times a day, Mail starts automatically and I cannot figure out why. I have turned off all mail-related notification and any other preferences I could find. But still, I find myself quitting Mail several time a day.
    How can I stop this?

    Hello,
If you set up your Google accounts on ML, then the Notification Center opens automatically your Mail client.
You can stop that in System Preferences > Notifications and drag “Mail” at the bottom of the window in “Not in Notification Center”.
    Hope this will help.

  • Apple Mail is cc'ing me on all new sent messages

A couple of days ago, my wife's Apple Mail started cc'ing her on all new messages she sent. When looking at a copy of one of the cc'd messages, it looks like she actually forwarded it to herself, which she did not. We have checked her rules and she doesn't have any, save for the Apple RSS feed rules that were originally set up with Mail.
We would be most grateful for any assistance that anyone could provide with this enquiry.

Have you checked Mail Preferences > Composing > "Automatically cc myself"?

  • Apple Mail takes a very long time to send messages.

A few weeks ago, Apple Mail started to act up.
Even small email messages without images now take 30 seconds to send.
They sit forever in the outbox.
What can be the reason of this?

Window menu -> Activity menuitem will give you all the background processes of Mail, and should give you an idea what is hanging its processes.
Mail can especially get tied up if Spotlight or Time Machine are trying to redo their indices.

  • Apple Mail trouble.  Can't drag, can't delete.

All of a sudden yesterday, I couldn't drag emails to subordinate mail boxes.  Now, a day later, I can't even delete emails to the trash.  I am running Apple Mail 7.1 and have OS X Mavericks version 10.9.1. and made no changes to settings or updates prior to this problem.  I tried clearing browser history and the downloads window and that didn't help.  Help, please.

Sorry to hear you had the same problem, dannymo54 but I hope you don't give up.  I finally called Apple support and they said there was a current "issue" affecting Apple mail.  She said to wait a day or two and use iCloud mail (through the Safari browser) in the meantime.  Two days later, Apple Mail started working properly for me.  Go figure.  It left me wondering if I was one of the few or if millions were affected.  Guess I'll never know.

  • Set up gmail account in Apple mail and it only defaults to Pop.  How can I get it to allow me IMAP?

I have multiple gmail accounts.  Just set up a new one and configured it exactly as I have the others in gmail (enabling IMAP).  But when I set it up in Apple Mail, it automatically sets it up as a Pop account.  I cannot find a way to set it up manually...there is no check box that I can find to do this in the set up window.  I have repeated the steps several times and it always defaults to Pop.  So...how can I set it up as an IMAP account?

Got it...have to hold 'Option' button down after putting in name and password and it changes to 'Continue'.

  • Apple Mail suddenly can't connect to Exchange over SSL

I swear I will kick myself if this happens again. This is not the first time! I forgot that I had Socks proxy checked in Network preferences! I realized it when not even software update worked. Case closed.
Yesterday around noon my Apple Mail started giving an error, translated into English it says roughly Server "blabla.internal" does not respond, please check your network connection.
This happened without me changing anything in any settings, and persisted. I tried connecting to the server with openssl s_client and that works, I get the cert back but I don't speak Exchange so I can't do much more. I'm the only one at the office with problems and my Windows 7 VMware Fusion guest has an Outlook 2010 that still works fine.
I tried adding my Exchange account into my MS Office Outlook 2011 for Mac but nothing comes up, no errors, no mails. As if it also is having problems to connect.
Why is this only affecting my Mac apps? It boggles my mind.
I tried resetting my entire Exchange account, deleting it and re-creating it, but to no avail.
I even tried sniffing with tcpdump to see if any traffic was going to this exchange server, on any port, and none is! Only if I run openssl s_client -connect exchange:443, then I can see traffic.
Also if I use Outlook in my Windows 7 guest VM, while tcpdump is running in my Mac host, I can see traffic too. This is beyond strange, my Apple Mail and MS Outlook 2011 for Mac have simply stopped sending traffic to my intranet Exchange server.
No one else at the office is having this issue right now.
    Also, my firewall is disabled.

I've had exactly the same problem.
I'm a sysadmin for our exchange server 2010.
Yesterday I had 7 new security updates for the server.
    That's what caused the problem.
I uninstalled the updates and the problem was solved!
Same problem after 7 new security updates install on 2013-01-09
I've resolved the problem by installing this rollup for Windows Communication Foundation in the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Apple Mail crashing 3/19/2015

Today 3/19/2015 My Apple Mail started crashing every time I would double click an email to open it. What does this message mean?

terminating with uncaught exception of type NSException

    Do a backup.
    Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail.  Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.
