Apple Mail trouble.  Can't drag, can't delete.

All of a sudden yesterday, I couldn't drag emails to subordinate mail boxes.  Now, a day later, I can't even delete emails to the trash.  I am running Apple Mail 7.1 and have OS X Mavericks version 10.9.1. and made no changes to settings or updates prior to this problem.  I tried clearing browser history and the downloads window and that didn't help.  Help, please.

Sorry to hear you had the same problem, dannymo54 but I hope you don't give up.  I finally called Apple support and they said there was a current "issue" affecting Apple mail.  She said to wait a day or two and use iCloud mail (through the Safari browser) in the meantime.  Two days later, Apple Mail started working properly for me.  Go figure.  It left me wondering if I was one of the few or if millions were affected.  Guess I'll never know.

I added my Slippery Rock University account to the apple mail server and all of my messages showed up, but when I try to send an email it says there is something wrong with the server and it will not send. How can I fix this?
All of the information I needed was right here: http://www.sru.edu/academics/iats/SupportServices/RSCHD/Documents/RockMailConfig .pdf
    Did I do something wrong?

    1)  In the Menu bar under Window select Connection Doctor.
Do you see red lights? If yes, most likely you need to enter your passwords.
If you see all green lights your connections are good.
You can also open the Activity window under Window to see the messages as they download.
    2) Create a Smart folder. Under Mailbox in the Menu bar select New Smart Mailbox.
Create a new folder to see messages recevied today (include the trash)
Do you see the messages now? If yes, we need to see where the messages are filed.

  • How do I restore email and drafts from Apple Mail in Time Machine after account was deleted.

My Apple Mail email account was deleted by a support person and I lost several hundred emails and close to 1100 drafts that I desperately need. I have been using an external drive for backing up in Time Machine.
I do not know how to get my emails and drafts out of Time Machine and onto my Apple drive.
Any help would be appreciated  HUGELY!

    Command-R to the rescue.
Just hold down Command-R during startup and Lion Recovery springs into action. It lets you choose from common utilities: You can run Disk Utility to check or repair your hard drive, erase your hard drive and reinstall a fresh copy of Lion, or restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup. You can even use Safari to get help from Apple Support online. And if Lion Recovery encounters problems, it will automatically connect to Apple over the Internet.
When boot into Recovery and select item 1, you will be given a choice of a point to recover from.

  • Apple Mail can receive but not send.

Hopefully someone can help me. I just recently purchased a new iMac (upgraded from the mini). I set up my mail and it's been working fine for the past few weeks. Now, all of a sudden, I cannot send email. I am receiving just fine. I'd like to point out the mini still has the same mail account set up (imap) and it is working just fine. Both computers are on the same wireless and have the same firewall and overall configurations. I've checked my outgoing SMTP settings 1000 times and they are correct and i've reset everything I can think of (modem, router, mail, mac, ect) and it still will not send. Any ideas?!?!
Both computers are running 10.5.6 and Apple Mail 3.5

Ok I fixed the problem and hopefully this will help anyone else experiencing the same thing. I called apple support and they had me drag the caches folder from both my user and admin account into the cache and delete them. Then I moved library->preferences->com.apple.mail.plist to my desktop (and later deleted after confirming new set-up worked).
I reopened mail and it had me set up my account again. After that, emails sent without a problem. I just want to note that I am using IMAP so all my stuff is secure on my server, if you use pop, it might delete your saved emails so becareful!
    I hope this helps!

  • What email can be used on Apple Mail?

Can I use hotmail or googlemail on Apple Mail?

    Hi.
Yes, you can use Gmail, just follow these steps.
Regarding Hotmail, you need to install a third-party mail plugin, httpmail, but it may not work with some recent Hotmail accounts.
    Good Luck.

  • Convert mails from apple mail to outlook for mac 2011

    Hello,
need to convert mails from apple mail to outlook for mac 2011. have gone through Imap procedure and am tired of transferring mails manually coz there are thousands of'em. can anyone suggest any simple solution to this problem?
    thanks.

Create a IMAP account (GMAIL icloud etc.)
add account to Apple mail and Outlook 2011
Drag emails into a folder on the imap server and then go back to Outlook 2011 and drag the emails from the imap into your email. and your done all your emails
    are there.
There are third party tools available now-a-days for this kind of problems and they are pretty useful. You have just to select the files from the apple mail
that you want to convert and your mails are transferred within no time.

  • Undo move in Apple Mail?

I can move and delete and otherwise mess with emails in Apple Mail, then hit undo...
EXCEPT when it is an email to my GoogleMail account: If I drag an email that Apple Mail has retrieved to my gmail.com address, when I hit UNDO, it beeps.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks

Sorry, perhaps I was not clear.
I have retrieved the emails into Apple Mail, but when I drag them into a mailbox folder, I cannot UNDO that drag with items that originated at GoogleMail, even though they have been downloaded into my Mac hard disk.
This seems weird. Is there any way to make UNDO work for googlemail items I have downloaded already into Apple Mail ?
    Thanks

  • GMAIL no longer works in Apple Mail?

I can't receive GMAIL any Apple Mail any longer but I can access gmail and it functions propertly through their web site.  I have double checked on the IMAP settings and can't figure it out.

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it in place of your old password.

  • Removing corrupt messages in Apple Mail

I have 6 identical messages in Apple Mail dating from 2006. I cannot delete them or move them. I've been told it is due to the messages being corrupted. OK. How do I get rid of them?

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • Thunderbird 2.8Gb, Apple Mail 9Gb for same messages

I have all my mail from the last thirteen years in both Thunderbird 3 which uses 2.8 Gb, and Apple Mail 4.2 which uses 9 Gb for the same messages.
There are no duplicates in the Apple Mail, and the attachments all seem to be present and correct in Thunderbird.
Is there an explanation for the difference?
I know I can archive the Apple Mail mailboxes but then Spotlight can't search them.
There doesn't seem to be any "compact" option.
    Thanks for any input.
EDIT: I meant to say that this mail is all "on my mac" and is all the mail from my POP days, before I converted to IMAP.

Settings > Messages, log off the Apple IDs on both of your iPhones.  Once done, login your own Apple IDs on your own iPhones.

  • I'm unable to connect my Gmail accounts to Apple Mail.

All - I've been working on this for hours.
All I want to do is connect my gmail accounts to Apple Mail.  I'm running a new Macbook Air w Mountain Lion, Apple Mail 6.5.  I can access the accounts on my ipad and iphone.  I've spent hours reading forums and help areas.
Mail repeatedly asks for my password.  In the account settings it does not save my password.
I've gotten the message that Mail cannot connect to Google imap server, but I do not believe this is a "timing" issue
    Here's what I've tried:
    Apple Side:
    -  Tried adding and deleting accounts several times within mail application
    -  tried using System Preferences > Mail/Contacts etc.
    -  Changed imap.gmail.com to imap.google.com
    -  changed to custom dedicated port for outgoing mail (587)
    -  closed and relaunched Mail
    -  Rebooted and safe rebooted computer
    -  set up and deleted accounts
    -  turned off gmail on phone and ipad
    Google Side:
    -  Enabled IMAP
    -  Not using 2 step verification
    -  Checked Captcha

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it in place of your old password.
