Apple Mail unable to forward attachments

I called tech support and they said to save an attachment to the desk top - which is fine if it's 1 file and that works. I have one with 8 jpg files that goes with text and all I get are the blue boxes with the
photos missing.
I can't seem to find a work around with Apple Mail so I go to our Gmail account and send it from there.
Any clue when Apple Mail will be improved? Simple tasks it can't seem to perform. With the iMac raved about for its graphics, find it hard to believe that I can't insert my .gif with my name being written by a rose. It's at those moments that I fire up the PC and use IncrediMail.
Thank you.

Thank you for your encouraging post. Since calling Apple Care and the whiz in Apple Mail could only tell me how to forward one attachment, mind sharing how to forward more than one with text?
I'm not forwarding attachments with each e-mail I send - most of our friends share lovely e-mails with animal photos combined with text. One yesterday had 8 photos but when I tried to forward it, I get the blue boxes.
I tried using the forward and then the Message, forward as attachment, but still just the blue box with a question mark in it. If there is something "hidden", it sure isn't in "The Missing Manual" books and neither is tech support aware of it.
Mind sharing? Thank you.
How about changing the color default for outgoing messages? Tried everything and tech support couldn't solve that one either. It's all black; then highlight and then select a color.
Wonderful to 'bump' into someone that knows these answers - sure
appreciate your help.

  • Mail rule not forwarding attachments

Using Mail rules to forward email to another account, the attachments are not forwarded with the original email message.  With a manual forwarding action, the original message is forwarded with the attachments.  Thoughts?

I have the same problem in MacOS 10.7.5, and it is a heavy problem, cause in fact Apple prevents us from professional work.May be we should chenge to Microsoft Exchange. I didn't have this problem in former versions, the forwarding WITH attachements worked fine.
The solution with the redirecting is only a emergency workaround, because it doesn't permit a professional handling of messages.
This Bug is strange, because forwarding the same message manually (choosing "forward" from the menu), the problem doesn't exist!!!!
As an "Only Mac User" since 1988 I'm very disappointed about the fact, that Apple doesn't take serious the problems of their users caused by BUGS.

  • How do I stop Apple Mail from re-caching attachments continuously?

My Mail kept re-caching attachments on Snow Leopard so I upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.3 but am facing the same problem. The Mail keeps caching attachments from all old emails even after caching them once. I have tried deleting my account and creating them again, repairing disk permissions etc. but to no avail. Have restarted the computer as well.Pls advise a permanent solution.

In the account settings within Mail, for each IMAP account there is an "advanced" tab.  There is a "keep copies for offline viewing" option with a drop-down box that lets you pick what you want.  Choose "all messages, but omit attachments."

  • Apple Mail Signatures send as attachments!

    Hello
I have searched all over the place about this problem and not come across a solution.  I know there are lots of discussions on here about it but nothing helps.
I have a signature in Mail which consists of some text and an object (.jpeg file).
When sending emails with just text to people using Windows email programs ie Outlook, the message and signature comes out fine.
If I add an attachment say a word file or pdf, the Signature .jpeg turns into an attachment, so then the recipient has 2 attachments on the email and my signature does not appear correctly.
Like I said, I have searched for hours trying to find a solution, and was wondering if anyone or Apple has managed to resolve this yet and I just haven't found it.
    YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!!
    Thanks

Anything in an email message that is not text must be sent as an attachment. That is not an Apple issue, it is tha way email works. Some email programs, including Mail, will recognize certain attachment types and display them in the message. The recipient might not even notice that the file was sent as an attachment. Other email programs do not do that, and an attachment will always appear as an attachment. If you include non-text in your signature, then some recipients will not see it the way you visualize it. There is nothing you (or Apple) can do about that.

  • Apple Mail in 10.6.8 not displaying attachments

I am unable to get consistent results on displaying attachments from Apple Mail on 10.6.8 with Exchange Server 2007 SP3 RU4. Attachments sent from an Outlook 2007 client on the same exchange server are not displayed in Apple Mail. The message shows no sign of an attachment. The problem with this issue, is it is not consistant. If I forward the e-mail message from my iPhone to myself, I get the attachment in Mail. It shows up in my iPhone correctly. I am connected to Exchange in Mail via the standard EWS (Exchange Web Services). The original message doesn't show any attachment in Mail. But after 20 or so minutes, the attachement show in the message body, but not in the header up top. Just driving me crazy. Is there anyone that can point me in a direction on who to contact on this issue to find out how it can be fixed?
    Thanks,
    Nate

I'm having the same problem and it is driving me crazy. My main email account at work is on an Exchange 2007 server. When I send emails with attachments (using Mail 4.5), I get people replying telling me that I haven't included the attachments. However, I know I have as the attachments appear in the Sent Items and I have also tested it by sending blind copies to a Gmail account and they turn up there even when the recipient is telling me that they cannot see the attachment. Even worse, people send me emails with attachments and the attachments either just do not appear at all or they appear intermittently. Whatever the problem, this really isn't good enough - how can I work with such unreliability. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas for how to fix or work around this I'd be very grateful!

  • Apple Mail, Photo Browser, Attachments and Yosemite

    OK,
    Help.
Anytime I want to insert a photo from my iPhoto Library into Apple Mail via Photo Browser in  Yosemite Mail, it crashes.
My preferred method - Via add attachments - Finder/Pictures/Iphoto library doesn't work anymore. It now says Open iPhoto library.
Why does Apple change these things without like checking them out?
Anyone have an advice. I think Yosemite is pretty half baked. I'm a computer consultant and this is the worst release for customers since Leopard.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
Note:  Since it's Mail that's crashing it's not an iPhoto problem but a Mail/System one.
Log into another user account on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists there.  If it does then it's a system wide issue. If not it's an account issue.

  • After i had my hard drive replaced, i've gone to get my old emails and am unable to find them on time machine. The file com.apple.mail.plist isn't there. HELP!

Pretty sure this will be some sort of user error, but i'm lost.
I had to have my hard drive replaced, so before taking it to the genius bar, i backed up using time machine. I'd had issues with trying to use Carbon Copy Cloner previously so had formatted the external drive before doing time machine. TM seemed to work fine and copied what looked to be everything. Once i'd got the new hard drive in and went to restore everything, when i looked for the file i need to get to apparently get my mails back (Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist) it's not there.
Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated.
    J

Turn Time Machine OFF temporarily in its preference pane. Leave the window open.
Navigate in the Finder to your backup disk, and then to the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level of the volume. If you back up over a network, you'll first have to mount the disk image file containing your backups by double-clicking it. Descend into the folder until you see the snapshots, which are represented by folders with a name that begins with the date of the snapshot. Find the one you want to restore from. There's a link named "Latest" representing the most recent snapshot. Use that one, if possible. Otherwise, you'll have to remember the date of the snapshot you choose.
Inside the snapshot folder is a folder hierarchy like the one on the source disk. Find one of the items you can't restore and select it. Open the Info dialog for the selected item. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you may see an entry in the access list that shows "Fetching…" in the Name column. If so, click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the dialog and authenticate. Then delete the "Fetching…" item from the icon list. Click the gear icon below the list and select Apply to enclosed items from the popup menu.
Now you should be able either to copy the item in the Finder or to restore it in the time-travel view. If you use the time-travel view, be sure to select the snapshot you just modified. If successful, repeat the operation with the other items you were unable to restore. You can select multiple items in the Finder and open a single Info dialog for all of them by pressing the key combination option-command-I.
When you're done, turn TM back ON and close its preference pane.

  • Not able to forward/reply mails in Apple Mail but new mail is going out

I am using Apple Mail program for my mails, for last 3-4 days I am not able to forward or reply a mail but i am able to send if i compose a new email

Triple check the Outgoing Mail server info that you entered in your Mail account. If that area says the info is optional enter the outgoing mail server and your password anyway. Also if you have more than one email account check the server that is selected for the GoDaddy account and make sure it's the correct server for the account.

  • Problems with Apple Mail attachments not showing in Outlook

I am experiencing problems when using the new Apple Mail 5.0 (with OSX Lion) to send PDF attachments. The recipient using MS Outlook on a PC will see the email, see the attachment icon (paper clip) but they cannot click to open the attachment.
It's like the attachment was stripped off the email.
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

I also have this problem, it seems to be something to do with this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA22343 but I cannot find the "View in Place" or "View as Icon"  options. Anyone had any luck?
This however, maybe the cause (with no real solution but to switch to plain text format): http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesoftwareupdate/thread/7 98ae640-9091-44c9-b663-63152eb2f0fe/

  • Outlook users' problems with Apple mail attachments

Folks on Windows XP using Outlook 2003 are having problems with email from Apple mail. Apple mail is using Windows Friendly Attachments and Rich Text as the settings. Sometimes attachments (Word, Excel, PDF) come in fine with an additional .htm attachment, but the body text of the message is missing. If the Outlook user opens the .htm file, there is the body of the Apple mail. Testing with Plain Text results in the body text appearing fine in Outlook, but the attachment is seen as a *.dat file and of course can't be opened. The Macs are all on OS X Tiger with all OS updates applied. Users of Outlook in other offices don't have this problem, and users of Thunderbird on Windows don't have this problem. Any ideas on what is causing this and how to resolve it? Is there a setting on Outlook that needs to be tweaked? Is there a setting on Apple mail that needs to be tweaked? Apple mail attachments to this Windows office worked fine until a few weeks ago. I do not know what changed between then and now as I am not in charge of the computers at the Windows office. Could a Mac OS update have caused a problem? Something on Windows or Outlook specifically? Thanks for any help you can provide. I've scoured the web and have tried everything to no avail. Zipping attachments, while a workaround, is not a long-term solution. Thanks!

Is this in an environment where an MS Exchange Server is being used? Seeing a file change to .dat would often point to that.
Plain Text should be the plan of action for users of Apple Mail, but something (probably the Exchange Server) is messing that up. See:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138053
    and also related:
    http://www.pchell.com/support/winmaildat.shtml
Moving to Leopard would probably not solve this -- the administrator of the exchange server must act.
Also the problem with winmail.dat files is known to impact other email clients used even on Windows computers.
