Apple Mail won't send or receive iCloud mail.

iCloud Mail is not working. I'm using OSX 10.4.11 and was under the impression that Mail would work, but it is not. I'm trying to use Apple Mail to send and receive mail with my mac.com email address and it has not worked since switching to iCloud. Do I need to change something in Mail Preferences? Can't find anything relevant on Apple Support.

I'm bumping this up to the top because I am having the same exact problem.
I have had my new Mac since Dec. and have never been able to use my Mac Mail account. I can only use my Verizon account, which I don't like. I had a PC before the Mac and used Outlook Express, which I did like but I would really like to find out why my MAIL account won't send email. I have fooled with this problem and at one time I did get it so that it would receive mail (but not send) but even now I can no longer receive mail in my MAIL account.
I wonder if I can delete the account and start over? I'm wondering if my daughter set it up incorrectly when she set my computer up for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Mail won't send to spouse's Mail program

My wife and I both have iMacs, running 10.6.8, and send emails to members of our respective singing groups. We often copy each other so we can verify the message was sent. Our outgoing server is Comcast, and incoming is either Comcast, Earthlink or mac.com, depending upon the address.  When I send a group message to my chorus members, and copy her at any of her addresses, that mail item does not arrive - although the remainder do. Similarly, when she sends one from her iMac and copies me, I don't receive it. If she copies my mac.com account, it DOES arrive.
Interestingly, if we send the same email from our iPads or iPhones, we receive the copy. This has only started in the past few months, so I wonder if one of the security patches didn't cause this issue. We have had times when, according to the Mail program, emails were sent, but NO ONE received them, but that happens usually after using a bulk mailing program (MaxProg) which we have now discontinued. Would upgrading to Lion help this? This is very confusing....

I can't see how this is a Mail problem, so I doubt that upgrading to Lion would help.
Is it only when emails are cc'd to spouses that failure occurs, or does it also occur when the spouse is in the To field?
Have you checked that messages are not going straight to junk?
Have you any Mail rules in operation that might cause the problem?
If the spouse is the only recipient does the problem occur?

  • Why do I get an "unable to connect - There may be a problem with the mail server or network." message from iCloud.  I have verified the settings.  I can access my iCloud account online but can't send or receive e-mail via the mail account.

Text limits to the "Question" link prevents a full explanation:
This is a long-time problem.  I have tried to resolve it with Apple but their "Customer Support" is merely a name.
I can go online and access my e-mail but when I try to send or receive e-mail via iCloud through my internet server (Google fiber now but the same situation existed with my prior service), I receive "There may be a problem with the mail server or network.  Verify the settings for 'Apple Email' and try again.
"The server returned the error:  The server 'p0-imap.mail.me.com' refused to allow a connection on port 143."
Well, I have verified the setting and tried again and again and …
Well, you get the idea …

iCloud is not supported on Snow Leopard or lower, why bother to mention it?
The OP has an iCloud account, and that can not be opened without Lion or Mountain Lion (on a Mac), IOS5 or 6 (on an iPhone/iPad)

Why can I not send e-mails from my e-mail account? I can receive e-mails. It is not an iCloud account it is a Bell Aliant account. An account I pay for.
This is the second time in three months this has occurred. Bell Aliant suggested I contact Apple directly as the only option is to remove my e-mail account and reconfigure it. This will mean losing all my files. These files are very important as my account is a business account.
Bell Aliant thought perhaps it is an Apple problem and that Apple may better be able to remedy the situation without me losing my e-mail files.

    Sorry ?
An Internet email provider losses all your Mail and it's Apple's fault ??
Did they explain how the app managed to delete all of your mail and then not even let you have access ?
If that was the case the app should still be able to access the empty folders.
I know there is often blame and counter blame in these situations but there are limits.

  • Apple Mail won't send invitations when initially closed

I just started using iCal to send invitations for appointments through Apple Mail. When Apple Mail is opened already when I create the appointment and click Send in iCal, it works fine. The mail is sent and delivered to the appropriate address.
But if Apple Mail is closed initially, the application starts and the invitation is queued up in the Outbox but is never sent. I can manually open up each invitation in Mail and send them individually, but why is the behavior different? Whether Mail is opened or closed when I send an invitation, it ought to deliver the invitation automatically. By not being sent, I may not realize the invitation hasn't been delivered, making the process very error-prone. Is there a way to guarantee the invitation actually gets sent without having to check the Outbox every time?
Is this an iCal bug or an Apple Mail bug? I saw no settings in Apple Mail for sending messages at shutdown or any other setting like this. Instead, these invitations may end up being buried in my Outbox for a very long time before I notice and by then, it may be too late.

The most recent OS is currently OS 10.8.3.  Your system profile confirms you are still using Mac OS X (10.7.5).  If this is incorrect, please correct your profile so that you will get the correct troubleshooting suggestions/solutions.
Also, post in the OS/Mail forum of whichever OS is currently installed on your MBP.  It's where the OS/Mail expert helpers hang out at.

It should be an attachment.  Your Mac just displays a preview of certain attachments (such as .pdfs) in the body of the message.  A PC, for example, will see it as an attached file rather than a preview.
You can save the attachment on your Mac by Control-clicking on it and selecting Save Attachment.

If Apple has disabled or deactivated your e-mail account, then you will not be able to use it. Did Apple tell you why it was disabled?
If you don't know why Apple disabled it, you'll need to contact Apple Support to find out why.

  • My mac mail won't let me receive emails but will let me send them. How do i fix this ?

my mac mail won't let me receive emails but will let me send them. How do i fix this ?

I am intermittently having the same problem. I can send email, but once the Mail application is opened, it will only pull emails in from the server one time and then I have to "Force Quit" and restart the application to receive incoming mail again.  I've tried restarting the computer. I've made sure I have all the system updates. I've checked for conflicts between applications and so far nothing fixes the problem. Once in a while, Mail starts functioning normally on its own, but in a few days it goes back to the same old problem. Has anyone figured out what if going on with this isse?

  • When I send or receive e-mails, the icon showing that there is an attachment with the e-mail may or may not appear. I have spoken to Apple and they cannot fix.

When I send or receive e-mails, the icon showing that there is an attachment with the e-mail may or may not appear. I have contacted Apple and they do not have a solution for this issue. This is a huge problem for me.

No, the senders are in most case sending from corporate servers which are almost certainly not Mac based. Also, remember this happens when I send or receive. So if I send something with an attachment, the attachment will go through, but the sent box will not show the paper clip icon so that I can distinguish the emails sent with attachments versus the emails sent without attachments. I receive the attachments as well, but again the paper clip icon does not show up so that I can distinguish the emails that I have received that contain attachments. Recipients of my e-mails have complianed that when they receive an attachment from me they do not see the paper clip icon which alerts them to the fact that the email contains an attachment.

  • I cannot not send and receive e-mails

Translated with the help of Google Translate.
    Mail: Version 7.3 (1878.6)
    Two-step verification set
Since a number of weeks I cannot not send and receive e-mails.
And I cannot find an answer in the support community.
I suppose the cause can be found in the two-step verification or in the TLS certificate ... but in this I am a layman.
    The connection wizard explanes:
iCloud IMAP Failed to log on this iCloud IMAP account. Make sure the username and password are correct
SMTP Failed to log on this SMTP account. Make sure the username and password are correct.
I'm 99.999% sure that the username and password are correct. Those missing 0.001% can be found in another problem somewhere else. Who advises me?
    My settings are as follows:
    [Account Information]
    iCloud IMAP
    E-mail: [email address] @ me.com
    Incoming mail server: imap.mail.me.com
    username: [email address] @ me.com
    password: my iCloud account {four digits, a hyphen, five Uppercase, 1 lowercase}
    server name outgoing e-mail: smtp.mail.me.com
    TLS certificate
[Outgoing mail server / Edit SMTP Server List / account information]
    Server Name: smtp.mail.me.com
    TLS certificate
[Outgoing mail server / Edit SMTP Server List / advanced]
    custom port: 587
    Use SSL: yes
    Authentication: Password
    username: [email address] @ me.com
password: that of my iCloud account
    [Advanced]
    IMAP path prefix: left blank
    Port: 993
    Use SSL: yes
    Authentication: Password
    Use IDLE command: checked.
I hope I get soon an answer.

Mail won't send but Connection Doctor says smtp account OK.
I can receive mail but can't send it from Mail 3.5. Same problem on a wired G5 and on a wi-fi MacBook (using the same account), so not hardware related. Worked fine 'till today - I didn't change anything in between times. Incoming mail no problem. Tried mail rebuild, keychain first aid, deleting the account, repair disk permission - doesn't help.
Mail's connection doctor says "smpt.xxxxxx - connection to server succeeded, no login required."
    Anybody any ideas? Thanks, N

Been having the same problem for a few weeks now. This has been working just fine, and all of a sudden - nothing. The update to 10.5.6 didn't do anything to fix this either.
I've spent numerous hours on the phone with the Apple support. Seeing as the two other accounts that I have configured work with no problem, they say that this is a problem with the provider which is also the ISP. I then called the support line for the ISP and informed them of this and they say that it's a problem with the software.
Interestingly, if I send a message to somone with the same ISP, the message will go. But I can't send a message outside of the provider. Does anyone else have this problem?
Also, from another forum, they suggested rebuilding the LaunchServices database. The Apple support didn't see what that would do. But I tried it anyway and the problem still exists.
Another intesting thing is certificates. It's only happened twice, but I've received the message saying that Mail can't verify the certificate XXXXX which validates the identity of the smtp. Anyone else get this? I thought perhaps I could delete the certificate and it would magically reappear. But when I go into KeyChain, the certificate is listed only under System Root and I can't delete it.
    ideas?

  • My mail won't send...

    Hi,
My mail won't send on my laptop.  There is spinning next to "Send" but the message remains in the outbox.
I deleted and readded all email accounts.  This did not solve the problem.
I started a chat with Apple Express support and they said that Lion doesn't support Apple mail so they couldn't help.
    I can send via webmail.
    I can receive mail.
One error message I receive after it has tried to send the message for awhile is:
Connections to the server “mail.smtp.me” on the default ports timed out.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
My password and username are correct; however, the following error message appears in the Connection Doctor window:
Trying to log in to this SMTP account failed.  Verify that the username and password are correct.
Does anyone have a real fix for this issue-it doesn't happen all the time, but has been happening every day for the past week and I need a reliable program to send mail.
    Thanks.
    lsb

    Becky,
Check your smtp server and check if your password is added. After ungrading Mail might have lost the password.
