Apple maps satellite imagery doesn't work

After upgrading to iOS 6 and eagerly trying out the new maps , I was met with disappointment as the satellite imagery function doesn't work, I'm left with a pin surrounded by complete blackness. The normal map view works fine and so do all the other features . Except hybrid and satellite so this includes flyover and all the 3d goodies.
Help?

Maybe, but I didn't pay £600 to become a beta tester for Apple. Google maps worked and worked well. Navigation has been a key selling point since the first iPhone and my user experience has deteriorated markedly with the introduction of iOS 6.0.
If I could roll back, I would but Apple won't let us do that. They haven't given us new maps because that's the best possible solution, they've done it because they want to distance themselves from the creators of Android. If they valued customer opinion then they'd at least provide a Google alternative and allow people to choose which is the default mapping app. Unfortunately Apple now believes its own hype and customers have become something to be tolerated ("it's Apple so they'll buy it regardless" mentality).
A pity as I would have previously considered myself a "fanboy" who's owned a 3GS, 4, now a 4s (not to mention the iPad 3 I'm typing this on while listening to my Nano).

Also, When I open the Keyboard Viewer, the letters will highlight only if I hold the modifier key(s) "Control" or "Control and Option". I really need help with this. I got a external Apple Wired Keyboard (w/ NumPad), caps lock mapped to control doesn't work with tab + caps lock + shift

I got a external Apple Wired Keyboard (w/ NumPad) since I'm a developer. I have used control panel > keyboard > modifier keys to make the caps lock key the control key. I can't get it to work when I press caps lock (which maps to control) +shift + tab (which I use to change tabs backwards).
Any ideas? It works when I use the regular control key, and it works on my built-in MBPro keyboard. Thx!

Hi Steve, Welcome to apple discussions.
Hmm, that is a strange problem. Well, you've already done what I would suggest which is to go to the keyboard settings and click the "Restore defaults" button in the modifier keys window and try again. If that doesn't work then you can restart the computer and check. If that doesn't work you can try to reset the pram. Hold the optioncommand+PR buttons after you hear the startup chime, it should chime again, I let it chime a third time just for good measure and see if things look better.
If that fails then you can try making another account and seeing if the caps lock works in the new account. There might be some strange error on your account that would be corrected for in a new account. After that it gets more labor intensive. Do a system re-install, do an erase and install.
You might consider a trip to the apple genius bar there in Honolulu if can. The should be able to run through all that for you. You're still under warrantee so take advantage and get some help.
Oh, and just a disclaimer that I learned from Adam on the maccast podcast. Make a full, complete backup including a time machine and bootable (like superduper or carbon copy cloner) disk before you do any of the above or take the unit it for service.

Is it firmware or my cable prlbme?

I used the original Apple composite AV cable with my iPhone 3G (OS 3.1.3) for a while and it worked fine for video playback in the iPod app. But after upgrading my iPhone 3G to iOS4 the cable stopped working. Video on my TV remains black and is shown on the iPhone's screen instead of the TV, and sometimes the iPhone tells me that this accessory is not designed to work with this iPhone. What did Apple do? If you purchased an unlocked iPhone at an Apple store, it should be useable with any SIM. Its possible they just made a mistake and gave you the wrong model phone or there is something wrong with that phone. If that is the case, just take the phone and your receipt to an Apple store, explain the situation and they should swap it out for an actual unlocked one.

1.3.5 update - lookup map from Contacts doesn't work for Sprint Nav or Google maps

Is anyone able to tap on a contact's address in order to launch Sprint Navigation? Or even Google Maps? In my case, Google maps alway navigates to *my* address, not the contact's address I tapped on.
Worse, my Pre hangs on the Sprint Nav splash screen when choosing that option -- similar to what others are noticing. I copied this from another forum, as it describes my problem as well:
I updated Default Applications to launch Sprint Navigation for addresses. It certainly launches from an open Contact, but locks up on the splash screen. It never displays a map (nor anything else), and the menu doesn't function. Completely unresponsive. If I launch the app stand-alone, it works fine, so Sprint Navigation doesn't seem to be broken. It just doesn't work launching from a contact address.
I've switched the default app back and forth between Google Maps and Sprint Navigation, and did a couple restarts to no avail.

Thanks for the feedback and link to confirm this issue. I confirmed what the other fellow wrote on that thread:
if you already have Sprint Nav open, then click the address is goes fine.
I also "fixed" the issue in which Google maps loaded but always went to *my* location. I fixed this by exorcising the unofficial Google Latitude version of Maps from my Pre.I picked up this version by following a hyperlink to the beta Latitude a number of days ago, and ever since it had replaced the regular G Maps. I was able to clear Latitude off my device by pointing the browser to maps.google.com to reload the original flavor.After that, I am able to properly launch G Maps from a contact's address field. Whew!

Apple Modem (for dialup) doesn't work in Lion. Why?

We have no acceptable alternatives for dialup where I live here. Even dialup is difficult. But the Apple Modem does not work in Lion!
Anyone know why Apple did that?
And what alternative is there for us (other than resinstalling Snow Leopard).
Does Apple not know that there are still PLENTY of places with poor or non-existent Internet services?
Does anyone know of an option?
Using a MacBookPro, but the problem appears to be Lion so the hardware would not seem to matter...

Apple Menu: "Recent Items" doesn't work proper anymore

Hi,
i switched from 10.5.8 to 10.6.4 and recognized that the "recent items" in the Apple Menu doesn't work proper anymore.
While OS X is running everything works fine. When i restart the computer all recent items are cleared.
I want it to behave like it did in 10.5.8, that all recent items where displayed even after a restart.
I recognized that the "open recent" command in applications like TextEdit or Preview behave the same. While the Program is running everything works fine . If I close and restart the app, open recent is cleared.
I tried do adjust it under Appearance in the System Preferences, but if i set all Numbers of recent items to "none" for example and restart the computer it will be set for each (Application, Document, Server) back to 10 again.
Hope someone can tell me a solution because i use "open/ recent Items" alot and it really disturbes my workflow.

thanks..i checked the preferences for the com.apple.recentitems.plist and didn't find one.
It seems like the system doesn't write down which items i loaded. I trashed this .plist earlier because i
saw that hint somewhere else.
i did like you said and created a new user account, tested different apps and documents, restarded and everything was displayed proper in the "recent items" Appel menu and in the "open recent" of every App.
I searched in the test account for the com.apple.recentitems.plist, copied it to the preferences of my account and restarted the computer. In the "recent items" displayed the Items that i used with the test account but after several tests it is clear that the system doesn't write down the recent items when i open my account. The com.apple.recentitems.plist still showes only the items i used with the Test account and the info of the file says that it wasn't touched sinced i copied it from the test to my account.
The Terminal command didn't change anything. The question is why doesn't the system write down wich items and documents i used when i'm in my account?

Hi, my iphone won't recognize my apple ID password but the ID is correct and works on my MacBook and ipad. So I'm not getting my emails or imessages to my iphone. This this just occured after doing a software update to IOS 7.0.6. What do I do?

I'm having the same issue and I'm SO frustrated. I can log into MyAppleID fine (as I did to make this post), but that same user/pass doesn't work with iTunes and my iPhone 5S and iPad 2 both won't update any apps. When I try to log in to iTunes on either device the login screen just pops back up again in an endless loop, yet I go to a PC and login to my account just fine. I've now reset my password at least 3 times, I've signed in/out and rebooted the devices countless times, and yes, I'm sure I'm entering the password correctly. It's just driving me nuts.

BIOS downgrade can be done only using an traditional BIOS version
Such versions are not available for download.
You can download only the latest win-based BIOS.

Apple tv 3 airplay doesn't work properly on Itunes 10.6.1

So me and my dad recently bought the new apple tv and everything works fine except for a few things, he doesn't connect properly with Itunes so I can't use Airplay and Homesharing. Is there a solution for this? I've seen more discussions on the community but haven't discovered a good solution yet.
Another strange thing about airplay is that sometimes it does show up in itunes but you can't connect cause of unkown fault (-150006), sometimes it can't connect but it's trying to for a long time and the connection window just dissapears and you can try again but still nothing is going to change and in very rare occassions it works?
We've tried a lot of things: resetting wi-fi router, resetting and restarting apple tv, turning on and off wi-fi on macbook, restarting itunes or macbook, we've bought an ethernet cable but still that doesn't make any difference, I've turned firewall off but that didn't work either.
My dad went to a local authorised Apple reseller and the only thing they said is that it should work so that didn't help us much.
So what can we do about this?

Also, the solution of using an Ethernet cable is no good for me. I live in a shared house, the router is in the landlords room. So I can log into the router and make changes, I have also tried rebooting, and resetting the router. But can not permanently use an ethernet cable.
Anyway, my friend is using his (unupgraded) apple tv just fine in the next room.
As I mentioned, it was just fine the way the router is now BEFORE the firmware upgrade. Straight after it connects for a few minutes at most. And in the last few hours it has refused to connect at all

Apple Movie trailer download doesn't work in Lion

Has anyone have this problem. When I'm on the Apple movie trailer site, I select the trailer I want to see. Once the movie page loads, there is a roll bar to either select watch now or download the trailer at higher resolutions on my computer. I normally select the 720p versions and quicktime pops up and starts downloading the trailer. Since I've updated to LION, this doesn't happen anymore. Any solutions?

I think I've solved the problem. It's turning on the extensions to start the ClickToPlugin (2.3.2). Part of the ClicktoFlash extension group. Once I turned disabled ClicktoPlugin, everything worked. SO BE WARNED!

Apple ID or password doesn't work for iCloud

I cannot seem to get iCloud to accept my apple ID and password using System Preferences... BUT it works on every other apple account-related thing I log into... i just tried it with my iTunes account, the Apple ID manage center on the Apple website, and i successfully logged into my iCloud account in my browser... but I cannot log in using the system preferences control... therefore I cannot properly sync my iMac! Can anyone help?

Right now iCloud is down, so it will take time. In the past, there have been users who never got their verification email, so they had to reapply. But right now, don't try since the system is down.
