I recently purchased my iPod touch with no issues. After updating to iOS 8.1.1 I found that my iPod would no longer appear in the latest version of iTunes and when I searched for Apple Mobile Device usb driver in the device manager, it was nowhere to be found. I've already uninstalled and re-installed ALL components of iTunes and read every single help article. I've tried everything. What went wrong?
See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
iTunes for Windows: Device Sync Tests

Can't uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support inorder to connect ipod touch
Ok so I am trying to connect my Ipod touch. looks like I'm not the only one having issues. So here it goes: First of all the main problem is my iTunes doesn't see my ipod. I get a message telling me that : "iTunes required a new version of Apple Mobile Device Support." I've read all the other threads about this problem, So I tried uninstalling itunes and Apple Mobile Device Support, but my problem is that Apple Mobile Device Support wont uninstall!!!! I go to programs and features and uninstall, it goes through all the motions but doesn't go away! I restart and it's still there. So first I need to know how to get it uninstalled. If I try to repair it, it say's "fatal error during installation." So what do I do from here???
Did you follow this article for Vista users?

When pugging in my ipod touch on itunes, it says this ipod cannot be used because the apple mobile device service is not started. What can be done to remedy this? Up till yesterday I have not had this problem

Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.
I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
Go to 'Settings'
'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync! -
What does "the Apple Mobile Device service is not started" mean? I updated iTunes and I got this message when connecting my iPod Touch (2nd gen).
Never mind--I think I found the answer through other posts. Thanks!

IPod nano 4th gen - Apple Mobile Device Driver issue
I have an iPod Touch that connects and syncs perfectly with iTunes but I can't find any way of doing the same with my wife's iPod Nano(4th gen).
Whenever I connect the nano it appears under Universal Serial Bus Controllers as Apple Mobile Device USB Driver but with the dreaded Yellow Exclamation mark.
I've tried:
The 5Rs
Different cables
Different ports
Disabling drivers
Uninstalling drivers
Removing all Apple software (in the correct order) and reinstalling
The only error message I get, other than the Exclamation Mark, is when I check the Driver Properties, it shows "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
If I click on Properties, Driver and Update Driver, Install from specific location I see:
Apple iPod USB Driver Version 6.0.9999.40 (12/11/2008) and
Apple iPod USB Driver Version 6.0.9999.61 (11/05/2012) and
USB Mass Storage Device
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what I can try?The code 10 might be caused by old driver componentry "stuck" in the bowels of your OS. If that's what is going on, we might be able to get past this ... but I'm afraid it's a bit of a performance.
First, go into "My Computer". Go "Tools > Folder Options". Go to the view tab.
Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
Make sure "Hide extensions for known filetypes" is unchecked.
Make sure "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" is unchecked.
Click OK.
Now in "My Computer", open "Local Disk C:" or whichever drive your Operating System is installed on.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "system32" folder.
Open the "DRVSTORE" folder.
In there look to see if you have either of the following two folders:
netaapl_(LongStringOfNumbers)
usbaapl_(LongStringOfNumbers)
If you find either of them, drag them out onto the desktop. (Don't touch any other files or folders you see in there.)
Now go back into the "system32" directory.
Open the "Drivers" directory.
Look for either of the following two files:
netaapl.sys
usbaapl.sys
If you see either of them in there, drag them out onto the desktop. (Again, don't touch any other files or folders you see in there.)
Now restart the PC. Try a complete uninstall/reinstall of itunes and related components as per the following document:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
... and then try connecting the nano again. Any better luck this time? -
I updated to iTunes 10.7 and now iTunes does not see my iPod touch. After the update I got a message that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver could not be installed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 3 times, but still cannot fix the problem. I have followed the suggested fixes in Apple Support. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Try the actions here for that driver.

IPod Touch - Apple Mobile Device not started
Hi Guys! I have recently received an iPod Touch and it won't connect to my computer. I have tried everything!! When the iPod is connected and I open iTunes it comes up with a box saying the Apple Mobile Device service is not started but then when i go into "services" to start the Apple Mobile Device it then comes up with another box saying "The Apple Mobile Device on Local Computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
How do I obtain use by other services or programs when it is not registering as a device on my computer??
I have no idea what to do now!! HELP!!
I have tried restoring default setting on my firewall and uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and all related programs but nothing has seemed to work.
Cheers!!Thanks for the reply but i have already tried this. When i went to stop it to then restart it it didn't have a stop option because it was already stopped so i clicked on start and it wouldn't start :S
