I also try to start the service and it just stops after 5 seconds. Even after setting it to manual and restarting.

  • Apple mobile device service has stopped working - continues

    Hi
I have a 16GB iPhone with 02 in the UK.
My first iPhone with 02 had trouble receiving calls with about 90% of incoming calls going straight to voice mail. I also couldn't backup that phone as every time I tried with iTunes, i got the message "Apple mobile device service has stopped working" about a minute into backup.
This happened continually, I re-installed iTunes so many times, still with little luck. I tried a different cable too. All on a brand new Dell Vostro desktop PC.
So, I took the phone back to 02 with these problems. 02 promptly replaced my iPhone.
Now, I have exactly the same problem. I obviously have nothing to restore on the iPhone as I was never able to back it up in the first place.
Every time I try and backup the iPhone I get the error "Apple mobile device service has stopped working". Again i tried a different cable and have removed and re-installed iTunes several times.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Regards
    D

I was having this same problem with my new iPad 3G. It was driving me insane and preventing me from syncing the iPad.
I removed and re-installed all Apple components from my computer as recommended (in the recommended order). But, the problem persisted.
The error message looked just like the one posted above:

The SOLUTION came when i discovered that there were two copies of CoreFoundation.dll on my computer.
One was in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support.
The other was in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support.
I removed the copy of CoreFoundation.dll from the Mobile Device Support folder, and the problem vanished.
    I hope this helps.

  • Apple Mobile Device Service Has Stopped working

Okay, I'm running 32-bit windows vista Buisness service pack one, and am getting the following message whenever I open iTunes: Apple Mobile Device Service has stopped working and was closed. This is not an issue connecting my iPod, which still connects fine, the issue arrises when I try to sync my new iPhone, and it is not recognized. Windows does recognize my iPhone, as seen in device manager and the fact that the phone charges when connected. iTunes will fail to recognize it due to the aforementioned error in starting itunes. I have gone through the basic troubleshoot on apple doing the following:
    restarting iphone

sorry, i maxed out space in the last post.
The steps I have taken to remedy the error are the following:
    restart iPhone
    restart computer
    check usp ports
reinstall entire iTunes package(updater, iTunes, quicktime, apple mobile device support) several times
    I have also tried:
-Running itunes as administrator, which I already am
-restarting the apple mobile device service in services
-checking for third party conflicts by having only itunes and the apple mobile device start when the computer starts and installing/running itunes with my anti-virus off.
-updating AMDS(apple mobile device service) with older versions of the software from 8.1 and 7.7
-deleting usbaal.sys from 8.2 and reinstalling 7.7 and 8.1 version
I have tried various other fixes found online, In addition to spending two hours on the phone with various apple "experts" who were baffled by my problem.
This problem is giving me the upmost frustration and I am becoming incredibly angry at both vista and iTunes. Please help
    -Kyle
P.S. If you didn't catch it, i'm running the latest driver updates and the latest itunes, 8.2

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • IPhonne could not be used because Apple Mobile Device Service has not start

So I updated to iTunes 10.1.1.4 this morning, Since there was some "performance improvement". Worst decision ever because my iPhone 3GS does not want to connect to iTunes anymore I first got an error from Apple Software Updater that it couldn't install so I went on apples website and downloaded and successfully installed it.
I then get this random error about a service.
Here's an image of what the message is when I try and get it to connect to iTunes
    http://i.screensnapr.com/mjaw7p.png
Once I saw this my first instinct was to go to Service and start it up myself! It was started so I restarted it! I then get this error
    http://lulzimg.com/i01/c0ef8bae.png
So my last option was to uninstall every apple product(including bonjour, itunes, apple mobile support etc.) and restart my computer, Install again THEN restart computer. Still got the same service error. I did a CHKDSK on my computer afterwards to see what was wrong and found nothing. I really don't know what to do now except ask here. I will not format my computer since I have very important files.
P.S. When Uninstalling, I deleted registry files, everything that apple left over.

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device
That's unusual ... it's a 32-bit version of Apple Mobile Device Support that is crashing (taking the report at face value), but you've got a 64-bit system. Ever since the first iTunes 9.x version, AMDS has been 64-bit.
So I think we should try scraping all your AMDS and iTunes componentry out of there (especially the old 32-bit AMDS stuff), and then reinstalling the 64-bit iTunes (which normally should reinstall the 64-bit AMDS).
I'd also take some extra explicit precautions along the way, just in case. Best to print out a copy of these instructions, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
    Preliminaries
Download and save a fresh copy of the iTunes64Setup.exe (64-bit installer file) to your Hard drive. (Don't run the install on line, and don't start the uninstall just yet.)
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Quit the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows if you have it installed and open. (Ay least some versions of that also use Apple Mobile Device Support, and so may interfere with the AMDS uninstall if they are open.)
    *Uninstall Phase*
Head into your "Uninstall a program" control panel. Uninstall iTunes. Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.
Next we'll remove any left-over program files and folders.
In "Computer" open "Local Disk C:" (or whichever drive you have your program files installed on).
    Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click on the "iTunes" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
*Staying in the "Program Files" folder,* open the "Common Files" folder.
    Open the "Apple" folder.
Right-click on the "Mobile Device Support" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Go back into "Local Disk C:" (or whichever drive you have your program files installed on).
Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
Right-click on the "iTunes" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Staying in the "Program Files (x86)" folder, open the "Common Files" folder.
    Open the "Apple" folder.
Right-click on the "Mobile Device Support" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    Empty your Recycle Bin.
    *Reinstall Phase*
Restart the PC. After the PC restarts do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the reinstall by doubleclicking the iTunes64Setup.exe file you downloaded earlier. (This should also reinstall the 64-bit Apple Mobile Device Support.)
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Does the install go through properly? If so, is the 64-bit Apple Mobile Device Service running now? If it is running, can you connect to the iPhone now?

  • Apple Mobile Device Service keeps crashing on Mac OS X

When I connect my iPhone and start syncing it gets so far then, then the spinning beachball appears. This always happens when I am trying to sync music, and happens everytime I sync the phone.
When I disconnect the phone and try again itunes doesn't recognise it.
I have found by following these instructions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306637
I can get itunes to recognise the phone again and start syncing. However itunes crashes everytime I sync.
If I force quit itunes I have to reinstall apple mobile device service, If I disconnect the iPhone then reconnect I get the error message 0xE8000001.
I thought it might be because of the amount of music I was wanting to put on there, put doing it bit by bit seems to end up the same way. I also thought it might be because I only have USB 1.1, but if that was the case nothing would sync...surely????
Has anyone else had this problem?
Can anyone help....having to re-install the mobile device package all the time is a real pain!!!!
    Help!

Are you connecting the iPhone to a USB 2.0 port? (Some of the G4 computers have USB 1.1 port and those will create sync problems.)
Are you using the cable that was supplied with the iPhone. (Some of the older iPod cables will connect but will not transfer data at USB 2.0 speeds).

  • Apple Mobile Device Service has stopped working. Vista SP2, iTunes 10.5

Hi there. I've been having an issue syncing my iPhone to iTunes. Here's a description of the problem:
-With an up-to-date Apple Mobile Device Service, error windows constantly pop-up saying that it has stopped working. If I close the error window, another one pops up fifteen seconds later.
-If I plug my iPhone into my computer, it is not recognized in iTunes, because Apple Mobile Device Service is not running.
-This error does not occur on my desktop PC, so I have been able to sync my iPhone by loading all of my files onto a USB and transferring them onto it. However, I would much rather not.
Here are the steps that I have taken:
-Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 10.5 with firewall off
-Individually uninstalled and reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service with firewall off
-Stopped and Restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service in Administrative Tools -> Services
-Extensively searched the internet for solutions
-Replaced Apple Mobile Device Service for iTunes 10.5 with Apple Mobile Device Service for iTunes 10.1 (This worked PARTIALLY. The error windows have now stopped popping up altogether, but I cannot sync with iTunes because the Apple Mobile Device Service is out of date. It asks me to update it, I agree, and I get the Apple Mobile Device Service that spawns error windows and still does not allow me to sync my iPhone.)
I am running Windows Vista SP2, and iTunes 10.5. My Internet Security suite is AVG Internet Security 2011. My iPhone is running iOS 5.0.0. Here is a full report of the error:

Just a shot in the dark, but have you downloaded any program from Megaupload, like MegaKey?  If so then that is your problem. I had been having the exact same problem for the past 2 weeks. I couldn't figure out what it was and tried everything that you have.. Then was on a board and someone mentioned Megakey. Having tried everything else, I uninstalled the program and reinstalled the current ITunes and AMDS. My Ipad and Iphone connected with no problem.

  • Windows 7 itunes 9 - apple mobile device service is not started

Here is a tip I discovered.
If you are running Windows 7 and having an issue your iphone being recognized by itunes (but Windows can see it fine) i.e.
this iphone cannot be used because the apple mobile device service is not stared
Be sure you are not running this application:
    FoxyProxy Video Utility
This will prevent the iphone and itunes to speak to each other. It will also affect other applications (Crashplan).
    C:\Program Files\FoxyProxy\FoxyProxy Video Utility\FPServiceProvider.dll

Hmm, I clicked on the "This helped me" link but it doesn't sjhow that you received the five points.
No worries. There's a slight delay in general between points assignments, and those points-assigned appearing in people's tallies. I got an automatic notification that I'd been "helpful" here and then a few minutes later the 5 appeared in my tally.
(There's also a seperate issue I've noticed where IE 9 doesn't show points-assigned in some topics, when some other browsers do.)
