Apple Mobile Device Services won't start

When I attempt to install the latest version of itunes on my Windows XP machine it consistently fails. It starts by not being able to start the Apple Mobile Device Service. When I ignore, it finished but when I try to start iTunes, I receive the message:
This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found.
I have tried repairing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but I cannot get passed the Services issue. I have full admin rights to my machine. I can see in MSConfig that the service has been stopped but I cannot enable it.
Help. Please? Thanks!
I read the answer on starting the service. I attempted that but the computer responded with cannot start service, Error 1053, the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Should I just delete that piece manually and do a repair? Thanks!!
