Apple no longer allows RESTORE via 3.0.1?!
i have an event tomorrow. EARLY. i dont want to download the 3.1 ipsw tonight cuz my net connection is SLOW but i need to restore so i can get up and go to WORK in the morning with a _working phone_.
i only need to restore because after downloading _iTunes 9_, ALL of my data became ORANGE in the status bar. *25GB's of Other ORANGE!* why? idk. how? idk.
+*on top of that iTunes LITERALLY moved all of my ispw files OUT of the folder they belonged in and IN TO the TRASH! i am so serious. by no direct action of my own, i found 2 ipsw files in the trash.*+
_THAT IS SHADY, SNEAKY, & UNETHICAL._
i dont jailbreak. i dont care. i just want to update my phone in the quickest manner possible so i can go to sleep and go to work and earn the money that in turn finds its way to Apple's coffers.
and dudes, dont delete my files +without asking+ me. and let me restore to 3.0.1 ASAP. *i'll update to 3.1 on MY OWN TIME. not Apple's time*.
this is beyond disappointing. i feel insulted.
now somebody please tell me i'm overreacting and made a mistake, that i did something wrong and point out a way for me to restore to 3.0.1 in iTunes 9 or 8.0.2... i've got 2 computers, one running each. and neither will allow a restore to 3.0.1
They both give an error message like this : "+this device isn't eligible for the requested build+"...
Why Apple? WACKSAUCE...

i am able to recreate this phenomenon each time i try to restore to 3.0.1... the ipsw files end up in the trash.
i managed to get my phone operable again by using an app called diskaid to remove all the music from my phone, thus freeing up the 25GB of inaaccesable files (i.e. OTHER). i just deleted the MUSIC folder and resynced my media and apps. i'll do a fresh restore LATER...
now i know that i may be asking for trouble by delaying the inevitable, but i'm going to wait a little longer now that i don't technically need to restore.
i get the explanations and appreciate the info from people. this was just the first time apple's ecosystem worked against me instead of for me and it was a small adventure to arrive at an agreeable outcome.

My 1 year old -- ha! one month out of warranty -- iPhone 4 has been having a nearly identical problem over the past few days.
It started by dying completely so I had the battery replaced, thinking it was simply battery issue.
It then worked again for a moment but started doing exactly what you describe, going through a reset cycle (longer than 30 seconds but who's counting). And it felt quite warm.
Did hard reset, plugged into wall charger and MBP USB but the new battery wouldn't even get a full charge (a whopping 92% after nearly two days). It would even lose battery when plugged in if I opened an app. And all the while plugged in, if I left the phone on, it would cycle through these resets. So I turned it off to try to charge it.
Now suddenly, it's dead again. Totally black, and hard reset does nothing. Up until two days ago there was nothing wrong whatsoever with this phone! And I hadn't even installed a new app that could be the root of the issue. No idea whatsoever what caused this.
Any help would be much appreciated!! -

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account. I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there. On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back. Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email. The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option? -
My late 2011 Macbook Pro is not working properly it is very slow and extremely painful to use, I went to a Genius Bar appointment, they were not helpful at all and just told me to go off and reboot my Mac and then restore via TimeMachine. I dont know how to do this. I am extremely displeased with Apple at the moment, can someone please help me?
Your problem description is generalized and non-specific. I would make another appointment at the Apple store and insist they help you execute their suggested fixes.
Incidentally, if you search this site, Apple has excellent articles re: restoring a system.

My iPod Classic will no longer allow me to create podcast playlists. It create music playlists. I've restored it twice. What is the problem?
Is the problem that you can create them in iTunes, but they are empty on the iPod itself? If so, I had that problem, and the issue appeared to be that playlists that used MediaType=Podcast didn't seem to transfer. If, on the other hand, I gave all podcasts a Genre of Podcast, it worked better. In general, with the older iPod classic, I found that playlists based on MediaType didn't work that well.

Phantom restarts / crashes with Maverick. Under restore Disk Utility, disk can't be repaired says "live system repair is not supported" Is there a fix yet? Or is Maverick "FREE" because Apple no longer offers free phone support?
Get onto the integrated iOS + Mac OS and end support for "legacy" Mac 10.8 and earlier.
Force older hardware users like me to upgrade to new hardware which is where $$ are.
Make apps work across tablets, phone, and computer with similar (though not the "same" app, but able to read and use the same file format).
Simplify.
I don't think anyone incl. Microsoft knew Windows 8.1 was going to be a free upgrade, I didn't and read that it would be more like $30.
No OS is ready for everyone on the day it is launched. iOS 7 is now 7.04 and climbing, Mac OS tends to really not be ready until the last patch and version is out, often a year or more after it was first issued. Ship it, then plan to fix the bugs left in or that surface.
www.macperformanceguide.com is saying "No" to Maverick for now. Of course there will be no "No" on new Mac Pro 2013 6,1 when those ship (Late Jan? ) -
I assume my Apple TV should allow me to view all events, albums and slideshows in my iPhotos app but it only allows four events and four albums to display on my television. I'm using a Optus mini Wi Fi for my home network. Could this be the reason for limited access via my iMac computer?
ChrisNo, I have not chosen photos to share as I assumed that the Apple TV would access all photos and music that are stored on my iMac.

Have an iPod touch 4th gen. It is completely charged, but once I disconnect from a power source it shuts down and then the apple logo just keeps reappearing. I have restored via iTunes and reset all the settings. Any suggestions?
If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

IF you are getting a message that the username and password are incorrect.....
Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional. -

What do you mean by 'no longer allowed to make in-app purchases, what happens when you try to make them, does the 'buy' button not work, do you get any error messages ... ?

Has anyone seen this error message "This Apple ID has already restored to the maximum number of devices in the last 90 days"? We get this when we use iCloud to restore a master backup to iPads in a school computer lab. The first 9 or so restores go without a problem and then we start getting the error. The iPads are running iOS 5.01.
We previously used iTunes to do the restore and did not have a problem, but it takes a long time to deploy to the 25 iPads. We were hoping that using iCloud would be faster.9. You’re limited to a maximum of 10 devices. With the ability to re-download content from everywhere, Apple has limited the number of devices that can participate in iTunes in the Cloud for a given account. The new terms allow for a total of 10 devices, five of which can be computers running iTunes. This means you could have five iOS devices and five computers authorized, or one computer and nine iOS devices, or any combination of the two.

New Pages no longer allows SECTIONS (in thumbnail view window) to be re-arranged like before? You could drag and drop sections within your document the same way you could drag and drop pages in Preview's PDF documents. So how do you re-arrnage your document now?

You used to be able to duplicate/copy a section/page by draging it with OPTION-LEFT-CLICK to a space below or above in the thumbnial window. The same way it works in PREVIEW in a PDF document. Did I miss something or is this also a bug?!
