Apple not offering OSX 10.6 any more?
I have an iMac Intel machine that is running 10.5.8. I'd like to update the OS but can't find 10.6 anywhere on Apple's site... Pretty sure my machine will run 10.6, which I need to run some new apps I need. Am I screwed?
Before Lion a system was provided on discs. Lion and after it is a download. Snow Leopard was never designed to be installed using a multi partition method as is used in the newer systems. It is also an older system and the next in line to be totally abandoned by Apple and does it merit all the changes it would require to make it an online installation? Having to call Apple about it is in line with their policy of pulling all but their newest system version from the store. In fact with Snow Leopard it is relatively easy to still get it from Apple. Usually with a system version that is third generation you have to make a special request they hunt in a locked room in the third subbasement for a copy, and most Apple sales people deny any knowledge of such a system version as ever having existed and don't you really want a newer system version and oh maybe a new computer if yours is so old it won't run the newest?

I updated my iTunes to version 11.1.4.62, but it does not detect my iPhone 4s any more. I have tried the following ways but still did not work:
Rebooted the computer
Rebooted the iPhone
plugged and unplugged the USB cable multiple times and to various USB ports
Uninstalled and installed the i-Tunes
Signed out the iTunes and signed in again
my USB cable and ports are all ok

Go to Windows 8.1 Control Panel.
Go to Hardware and Sound; Devices and Printers; Device Manager; Portable Devices (look for Apple IPad)
Right-click, then select properties on the menu list.
Under the "Driver" tab menu, confirm the update driver button is not greyed out. If the update driver button is grey and unselectable, you need to select and click "Change Settings" button located near the lower left corner.
Now you can click the "Driver" tab menu near the top, so you can see the "Update Driver" button.
Select "Update Driver".
Select and click "Browse my computer for driver software".
For Windows 8.1 64 bit, it should be located in the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
Click Next, and let the driver re-install.
iTunes 11.1.4.62 should open automatically if your iphone is connected already. -

What is the specific Music Score that you used in the Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Mac Soundtrack that was limiting you in the number of words that could be included as text in the project's opened Titler?
Please confirm
a. Working in Expert workspace or Quick workspace?
and
b. Was the 12.1 Update in effect before and after you observed that the Music Score soundtrack removal resolved the issue of number of words limit in the Titler?
and
c. Did the Titler problem exist if you replace the Music Score soundtrack with a non Music Score music file?
and
d. If you moved the Music Score soundtrack to one of the numbered Audio Tracks, did the Titler problem exist?
If you have no Music Score soundtrack in the project, create your title of 80 plus words in the Titler, close the Titler, and then bring the Music
Score soundtrack to the project's Soundtrack, does that strategy work for you?
The above information will help me to think about what happened in your case and give me more insight into how to prevent it happening to
you in future projects.

Finder "Open with" not working on 10.6 any more
Hi,
I am experiencing some issues with finders "open with" > Change all function.
It does not work for .doc files any more since Snow Leopard. The "Change all" button is disabled. I can change to pages via the drop down menu but that's it.
The button is working fine for other files types (eg. PDF). Is there any solution or explanation for this yet?
How could I manually tell SL to open all .doc files with pages in order to avoid the bug?

The "change all" button was active instantly in previous OS X versions iirc. Anyway, it works this way. -

How come my Iphone 4 keeps saying not enough storagespace to take any more pictures and can't get updates yet I keep deleting apps and photos off my phone and my itunes on my computer and yet I feel like I don't have many apps or that many photos?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Then you will be able to navigate to the Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and get the domain.sites file for copying to the other Mac.

iPhoto9.3.2 on a iMac i7 2.93 GHz with 12GB running MacOS 10.7.4 will not let me delete photos any more, neither delete, comman delete or even emptying the trash works since i updated it a week ago.

I don't use iphoto much, just to store photos, but I first noticed the problem about 2 months ago when trying to delete a photo. It would not delete, and afterwards iphoto would hang on close, and trying to delete caused a crash entry in the log. here's some details:

I have repaired, and rebuilt the database. No change.
I have created a new database, imported 1 photo, and tried to delete it. No change.
I have copied the database (duplicated). No change.
I have deleted the iphoto preferences file. No change.
I have removed the application, and reinstalled from my iLife 11. No change.

In addition to not being able to delete a photo, these additional problems exist:
Cannot delete an event.
Cannot move a photo from one event to another.
At this point, I'm fairly sure this is not a database issue. I'm also certain it's not related to the new update. Anyone got an idea that isn't related to the database? -
Why is my Macbook pro now extremely slow and not running things like powerpoint any more?

Mavericks installed. Now my Macbook Pro is slower than a one-legged tortoise.
It won't run powerpoint, which just crashes. en my keyboard misses the first part of sentences because it can't keep up. I have to double check everything I type. I'm trying to run a business, and I'm losing time, money and the will to live.
I cannot reinstall microsoft office, as I bought my macbook Pro (2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3) from a seller who cleanly installed Mountain lion for me, and installed Office 11 on it. I do not have any installation disks. I have been forced to downgrade to Mountain Lion, which I'm still waiting for Apple to send to me.
Is there anyone out there who can give me any help. I'm not paying Apple any more money. Why should I? I've already been forced to rebuy an operating system that my Macbook previously had installed.
Not only that, I think I have an expanding battery issue, and my trackpad is now broken. Just to add to my woes.
Has anyone had a solution to solving the Mavericks debacle?

Note that I had no heavy CPU processes like stobston had. There are some processes using lots of memory though. Made me wonder, could it be a swap or contention issue? I have a Macbook Air, so 'swapping' doesn't mean what it used to mean. Anyway, I tried closing Excel and Finder. Powerpoint was still slow. I ran etrechek again. WebProcess and mds are still running at the same memory usage; nearly half a gig between them. WebProcess is Safari; shutting down Safari didn't help. I have heard that Safari has had memory leaks, I don't know if that's true or not. mds is the MetaData Server for SpotLight. I had run Spotlight several times today, and also did a lot of desktop cleanup. That might have triggered mds.
I don't know how well Mountain Lion reclaims memory ( now I'm really getting into the weeds ), so I shut down MacOS and restarted it. This time, I started up PowerPoint first, with nothing else running. Problem solved. PPT is running fine.

My charger is not connecting to the computer any more....
My charger for my Shuffle isn't connecting at all with my computer any more, but not even two days ago it was fine. I tried resetting my computer and it still wouldn't work. My iPod works fine and I think I may need to get a new charger. Is it possible to get just a new charger?
Yes, definately. Try your local Apple Store or even somewhere that just sells iPods new.

Why is Apple not offering AppleCare Plus on the new iPod Touch 5th Gen?
I don't understand why Apple would offer damage protection on iPhone and iPad, but not on iPod touches? Unless Apple offers a replacement model for $149 ($99 plus $49 deductable), then I don't see the point. However, I still think it makes the purchase decision a lot easier on parents knowing that a $300 or $400 device can be protected in case of accidental damage.
That question would be more appropriate for Apple support. All of here are only end users like yourself and can only speculate as to why it's not being offered for the 5G iPod Touch. However, speculation of Apple products and such are prohibitied on these forums. Sorry.

updated to iTunes 10.7 from app Store last night. After the update, iTunes opens then stalls with the "spinning pizza wheel". Force Quit is unresponsive and will not shut it down. If I then open other applications say Safari for example, the problem migrates over to Safari and it similarly stalls and becomes unresponsive. The only way to solve the problem is to manually shut the computer down. This is the most significant problem I have experienced on an apple computer since OSX was introduced because it impacts on Force Quit which means that you have to shut the whole deal down. There are obvious problems for use of Apple TV and apple store etc. ! I am running mountain lion 10.8.1 on a 27" iMac with 2T Time Capsule connected wirelessly. How do I downgrade iTunes back to 10.6? I had no problems with Mountain Lion or iTunes up to that point.
this is the exact same problem i've been dealing with for the past 2 days. after i installed itunes 10.7 for my iphone5 it would crash my mbp's lion system wide. i tried every solution i could find on google and i've actually had to reinstall lion & time machine my backups because of it. right now i'm too scared to redownload itunes 10.7. i actually feel like waiting for the "new itunes" that comes out in october.

Photos not shown in Photos-Application any more
Suddenly the pictures i have taken with the phone do not show up any more in the standard photos application.
It shows only one picture this month..... but they are still existing on phone memory.
Looks like the library information are corrupted.
Anybody having an idea how to restore? Can do that with music, but could not find it in photos-application ?When working with pictures it is easy to find the library files.... i have deleted them all, and on restart they are automatically rebuild. But they do not include old pictures then... only the new ones. So unfortunately that does not help.
Also Nokia Support was not able to send any useful answer.
So it looks like the library was destroyes for any unknown reason... and then started to work normal again, but simply forgot all old pictures.
Pictures are still available.... but simply not in the list of the library.
It is a pitty that you can not rebuild the library, as you can with music.....
