Apple not replacing Ipods as promised?

in August of 2005 i recieved a notice from apple in the mail stating a lawsuit that they recieved. Since the batteries of the 3rd generation Ipods (4 buttons instead of the clickwheel) weren't lasting as long as expected, they would either replace the Ipod, replace the battery, or give $50 store credit. I filled out the form and sent it along with a copy of a recipt. I didn't hear anything so i went to the store in December of 2005 and they told me that the court case was recently settled earlier in the month. They told me i would be hearing from Apple soon and i would get my replacement product. It is now the end of May, 2006 and i still haven't heard anything. Does anyone else know what happened with the lawsuit, or how to get a replacement product???

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • I feel ripped off.Why does apple not replace the battery?

Ok so I went to the apple store previously and they guy told me I could get a refurbished ipod for $50.Now I go there today and this other guy tells me apple does not support my model anymore.I paid over $300 dollars for this thing and apple will not replace a battery? Why is this? It's just a battery and I refuse to buy another one.Apple needs to support their product for lifetime.

You can buy a replacement battery for a few $. The device is not that easy to open up, but it can be done. I've around 10 battery or headphone jack/hold switch assembly replacements on various models from 5th to 7th gen. There are third parties that will fit for somewhere in the region of $25. E.g.

  • Ghosting Problem Apple not replacing the laptop, only repairing it.

I am a student and shelled in $ 2500 in August 2012 for my costliest investment ever. and now I have bad ghosting problems with the display and its really diffcult for me to work with this machine. I went to the apple store and they understood the problem and were ready to repair it under warranty. But isn't that not fair and should they not be swapping the entire machine ? I know that Macbook Pro Retina 15 inch has zero repairability and why would would I want them to open my Macbook to a repair after investing $ 2500. I really think apple needs to take this seriously and owe up to their mistake and swap machines ! I will never buy another Apple product again otherwise and I will never recommend apple to anyone else other wise at all. Guy's do you have any idea how to get the Laptop repaired and not repaired ? Please help !

I get it and I would feel the same way, but unless you can talk the store manager into doing that or go above their head to corporate relations and complain until you get the system swapped, but written warranty standards, they are allowed to fix a problem a maximum of 3 times (for the same problem) before they'll even consider swapping out the entire unit.  Bottom line, the LCD panel in the unit is most likely a pos LG unit and they'll swap it with one that's not from LG.  When that happens, all things should be good as new, but the remaining issue is how well a job the Apple store people do in doing this replacement.  If it's factory prestine and you can't tell a different, then it's fine, and really no different than if you were to buy a refurbished model, but if they do a crappy job, then I agree with you... why should you be out the "quality" aspect of the investment of $2500 when they made a crappy decision and used inferior parts from a manufacturer who they're currently not suing. lol
Again, if you want to raise ****, call corporate relations and voice your case.  Maybe they do what you want and keep you as a customer or they call your bluff and say that they'll fix it under warranty or you can take it or leave it.  In the end, one less customer for them isn't going to break their bank... this is how they view it really.

  • Any word from Apple on replacement iPod firmware?

Like many others, I made the mistake of updating my 60GB iPod to version 1.1 firmware. After doing that, I ran headlong into all of the bugs (video playback losing sound, backlighting, refusal to load higher res videos, etc.)
Has anyone talked to Apple tech support to find out when Apple will be issuing new firmware?
I'd really like to get the new remote with FM radio, but it requires version 1.1 firmware and I am not willing to lose the ability to play all of the videos that I've encoded. Nor do I want the ability to download higher res videos taken away (since the higher res videos look much better over the video output to a TV).
This is my first Apple product. Is Apple always to slow to acknowledge and fix bugs? Given all of the problems with the update, it should have been pulled days ago, but it's still there and it keeps messing up people's iPods. It cost me two hours of time. Doesn't Apple care when their customers are having that kind of experience?

    Thanks for the reply.
I believe that there are many iPod owners who will either not buy the remote or who will return it in frustration after they learn what the 1.1 firmware does to their iPods.
If buggy software followed by days of dead silence (in response to the ensuing complaints) is typical of Apple, I am completely befuddled by their cult-like following. As I mentioned before, this is my first Apple product. I expected that paying a premium price ($400 for a portable music player is a premium price) would get me a brilliantly designed product and top-quality support. Instead, I get firmware updates which cripple the product and Apple doesn't even have the courtesy to acknowledge the problems and remove the buggy software from its web site.

I didn't receive my return box from Apple for the iPod Nano replacement as promised within 2 working days, did anyone else?

UPDATE. Just spoke with an AppleCare representative, Apple has been inundated with requests for these iPod Nano replacements.  They have fallen behind with sending out the return boxes in the 2 days they promised.  I was told to wait an additional 2 days.  She also said they were very surprised so many people still have their 1st generation nanos...
We have been an Apple family for years and trust they will do the right thing, they have always surprised us with their professional customer service and expect this situation to be the same.

  • Replaced iPod screen myself, screen not working. Will i be eligible to get a screen   LCD repair from Apple ?

I dropped my ipod by accident and i decided to repair the ipod myself by buying a screen off eBay. I replaced the the screen and everything was working when i tested the iPod before screwing the backplate back on. When i closed the iPod, it had a white screen when i power up. I held the power and home button for 30 second and nothing happens. The power button still powers the screen on and home, and when i hold it down it powers off the iPod.Replaced iPod screen myself, screen not working. - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Malfunctioning replacement iPod Touch 5 from Apple.

I'm hoping I can get some advice. My 32 GB iPod Touch 5 that I had was having problems running apps (more than normal), so I went to The Apple Store at a mall. The person at the Genius Bar was able to replace it, and assured me it was a new, working device. So I had that set up, received my replacement iPod Touch 5, and was on my way home. I bought a screen protector, had it applied, and tried setting up my "new" iPod Touch 5. I went to the search tab in the App Store, and wasn't able to view all the apps that I searched for, due to the reason that for some odd reason, according to Apple, my device was malfunctioning. I did the reset, restore, etc. and nothing fixed it. I've had this replacement for 2 days now, and I'm in warranty. But that doesn't change the fact that now I would have to wait 1 week or so, to have a working device. My problem:
    1. The Apple Store in the mall is an hour away, and I don't drive. Nor can I get a ride from a friend/family member.
    2. If I sent it in, I don't believe they would replace my screen protector I JUST had applied yesterday. (I didn't test out the device, because I was under the impression from the Apple "Genius" that it worked perfectly.)
Either way, either of these options will cost more than I should have to pay, (Gas=$$$ and sending in=-$20.)
I don't think it would be too much to ask for some kind of compensation out of this deal, when I got back a product faulty from the beginning, but I'm not sure. What should I do?

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Be nice but firm. Ask for some compensation but do not go overboard.

What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi or cellular. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:
