Apple pages. Is there a 'Merge' Function

As all you Mac users will know, (Clarisworks-AppleWorks), has a fine database option for use when merging documents. I need to send a same letter to a number of customers. Is this possible in 'Pages' or do I have to revert back to 'AppleWorks'? Any help is much appreciated.

DennisG...You say jump, I ask how high? You speak, I listen. Since a year ago, with pages being the answer to the maiden's prayer, after much frustration I like the program for my simple needs. Still have a problem though with deleting pages from doc. Some days no problem; others are a new ball game. Article ID: 301081 and previous posts make it simple. However, when I go thru the "Insert" drill to "Edit/Delete" at times it becomes a challenge. One day it works fine, but who knows what tomorrow will reveal. Could be I'm all alone in the big wide Mac World with this "Pages" problem. Maybe you, FrankB or Peggy, da man as you refer to her with admiration, or some other guru has the answer. Thanks. I got shipping notice last night. I chose standard, free FedEx ground shipping because I know from experience that it only takes two days for software to make it from Apple's warehouse in Sacramento to my house near Seattle. Sure enough, FedEx estimates delivery tomorrow. My iWork '06 will probably make it to my house before I get back from San Francisco tomorrow afternoon!

Pages - Numbers deletes merge function!

WHY did Numbers and Pages updates kill the merge function I use frequently? Guess I am going back to Word and Excel, and have many documents and spreadsheets to convert. Very disappointing.

We can't say why. Seems like a pretty foolish move. For now, if you were happy with iWork '09, just keep using it. I think it's interesting that when the Apple Community Specialists (Black Bar Posts) occasionally answer questions here, they have been advising that we go back to Pages - iWork '09 for the functionality we are missing.

Looking also for an app that allows me to merge email and send them out to each recipient individually. Apparently that's not possible yet. Here's what the guys at RedbitsApps told me about Group Email capabilities:
"The current version of the app relies on the device operating system to send the emails. For this reason, sending individual email instead of a single email to multiple recipients is not possible. Apple doesn't allow apps to send single emails to many recipients easily. We may use a custom sending software in a future version."

In Lion and Mountain Lion you must save the first time then it will autosave for you with versions.
ForEverSave, a 3rd party application, might actually prompt you after a set period. Check it out and any alternatives.

It sounds like your iPod is frozen on the startup logo. Have you tried a hard reset yet? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

- Add a credit card or other payment method like redeeming an iTunes gift card.
- Create a NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.

Unless you use the steps on this page when creating a new account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
then you will need to enter credit card details before the account can be used to download any item from the store.
If you don't have a credit card then you will need to create a new account, and follow those instructions. If you want to use the same email address then you will need to remove it from that account first e.g.by logging into it via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes or via http://appleid.apple.com - you should then be able to use it on a new account.

Short answer: No, Apple chose at the introduction of Mac OS X to support only Adobe PDF 1.3 and those parts of Adobe PDF 1.4 that include device-independent transparency, but not those parts of Adobe PDF 1.4 that include Adobe XMP for XML markup of the page description program.
Long answer: Adobe PostScript is a page description programming language, unlike Xerox Interpress which is a page and document description programming language. In other words, Adobe PostScript is a streaming or sequential rendering model that cannot simulate the behaviour of a bound book where the user can turn from any one page to any other page arbitrarily. Adobe introduced Acrobat Distiller in 1993 in order to convert Adobe PostScript page description programs into Adobe PDF page and document description programs that share the same fundamental functionality as Xerox Interpress.
Conversion from Adobe PostScript to Adobe PDF buys one nothing but page-independent processing. Specifications published by Adobe in 1993 state how the SFNT Spline Font file format used by Apple and Microsoft for Unicode imaging has to be re-encoded into PostScript font program dictionary format (PostScript so-called simple fonts with less than 256 glyphs and PostScript so-called complex fonts (CID fonts) which are simple fonts tiled into a single superfont). All that is left is the glyph identifiers, and per Unicode Specification version 1.0 the glyph identifiers are private and font-dependent, so no character information can be inferred.
ISO 19005:2005 PDF/A is a superset of ISO 15930:2002 PDF/X-3. The problem with ISO 15930:2002 PDF/X-3 is the same as above, that is, Adobe PostScript cannot encode the file format of the International Color Consortium, which has to be re-encoded to PostScript CSA Color Space Arrays and PostScript CRD Color Rendering Dictionaries. It is possible to encode the ICC file format directly in PDF 1.3 and higher, as specified in ISO 15930 and ISO 19005, but because PDF encodes only the glyph identifiers that are the output of the SFNT file format, and not the UCS Universal Character Set input and the settings for the feature selectors in the font file, ISO 19005:2005 has come under criticism for failing to support search in complex scripts.
ISO 19005:2011 is supposed to address the shortcomings by saving the UCS input into the PDF itself, but in this case it is impossible to use Adobe PostScript and Adobe Acrobat Distiller as intermediates to Adobe PDF. So in order to drive ISO 19005:2011 Adobe would have to ditch Adobe Acrobat. I am not sure if there is software that implements ISO 19005:2011, but I noted that the Apple iBook Store does not accept PDF at all. Personally, I struggle to think of how to explain to endusers the overwhelming number of Adobe ISO PDF formats (there is PDF/E, PDF/UA and whatever else), and the overwhelming number of Adobe ISO PDF versions of these formats (there is ISO 19005:2005, ISO 19005:2011, ISO 15930 all the way back to 1999/2000 in God knows how many versions at this point).

Zotero, Sente, Papers integration with Apple Pages

I am a scientist who continually utilizes refererence databases and has to create bibliographies for my publications.
Pages is superior in so many ways for publishing and preparing manuscripts except when it comes to references and bibliographies.
Apple has allowed EndNote integration. But EndNote has many issues and does not fit every user. There are applications that actually do the job better and are FREE. Zotero is one of these.
All academicians are usually also writers and need this kind of integration. I realize that there are other software packages out there such as Papers and Sente, etc.
Many of us academicians would switch completely to Pages if it offered this functional integration.
I have written to Apple several times with this suggestion but have received no reply nor have I seen any movement on this front.
If we could all lift our voices to Apple perhaps they will allow other providers besides EndNote to integrate with Pages.

I think there was some misunderstanding of your posting. Bookends is a bibliographic program made sold at Sonnysoftware.com. It is in my opinion much better, and is certainly much less expensive, than Endnotes. None of this has anything to do with Bookenz.
I strongly agree that Apple needs to cooperate with the developer of Bookends so that a really good integration can be achieved with Pages, as Bookends has with Mellel. I suppose that means releasing the API.

Mail Merge Function in Adobe Professional 8?

Hello,
My company will soon be implementing an Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).
One of the major hurdles were facing is that the new system will not be able to generate copies of documents with controlled sequential numbers. Presently we use Mail Merge to implant the controlled copy numbers on our Word documents (using excel as the data source).
When we switch over to the new system (EDMS), we would need to do the same thing but only on a PDF version of the document. I've looked into the use of forms but don't think that's going to work as these are multiple page documents that need to have the same information on every page.
After reading about forms I get the impression that you would have to do every page separately (as opposed to having a data source like excel and fields in the PDF to accept the data from the excel file).
Is there any function in Professional 8 similar to Mail Merge in Word?

I was thinking of a Mail Merge function in Adobe Professional 8 itself, in
other words, performing a Mail Merge on a PDF document, as opposed to what I
think you're suggesting which is to create the Mail Merged document in Word
and then convert to PDF. That wouldn't be a solution because these
documents will be residing in an EDMS database (Electronic Document
Management System which will hold both the Word and PDF version of a given
document), which creates it's own headers and footers when printing from the
system. There's no way to place a stamp at this point in the process because
you're within the EDMS system, no way that is without an expensive plug-in
or work around to the system, and with the way that Word doesn't always
convert so neatly to PDF, and the need for this stamped document to be an
exact rendition of the EDMS (printed) version, I would need another
solution.
My original solution was to print the PDF version of a document from the
EDMS system, hence it will print with the appropriate EDMS Headers and
Footers (which only get added inside of the EDMS printing process), take
that print, scan it, and now with the scanned version (after setting up the
fields where the merged data will go), merge it with a data source (excel)
and print it out. We would then have a document with a controlled copy
number that has all the appropriate formatting of the EDMS version, plus of
course a unique copy number stamped where we choose.
Of course none of this will work unless Acrobat Professional 8 can do Mail
Merge from within itself. This is what I need to experiment with....any
ideas?

No, Apple does not allow to merge AppleIDs. You can just stop using one of them.

There is no way to merge two Apple IDs as all purchases made with each account are always tied to those accounts.
All you can do to each account is change the email address for each one but they can't have the same email address.

Why are there columns in the header that block text in Apple Pages 5.0.1 and how do I get rid of them?

In working with headers in Pages 5.0.1, there are columns that did not exist in previous versions. These columns appear to truncate and/or block text. Is there a way to clear them so that the running header reads something like this:
HUMOR AS AVOIDANCE 1
As opposed to
HUMOR AS A| | 1
