Apple paid apps refusing to start

I've had this before, and seen it in threads going back some time but haven't found a definitive answer. Occasionally (rarely thankfully) some apps will refuse to start on my iPhone 4 (currently iOS 5.0.1). The icon zooms out as normal but then simple returns to the Home page. This morning none of my paid Apple apps would start, but all the "built in" ones were fine. I re-downloaded Numbers and all of them then worked. In fact, downloading anything seems to fix the problem. But it will be back, I know it will. Perhaps just the act of using my Apple ID and password is the important thing, and not the actual downloading. Does anyone have a definite answer to this one?

It may be worth trying again off and on.
The forums themselves go off line for varying degrees of time. A thread (???) said Apple was working on it. It's been going on for weeks. A real PITA.

    When my iPod 4th Generation runs out of power and shuts off, giving me the signal to plug it in to charge, some apps refuse to work. For example, I open up an app, and it immediately closes. Is this because there are some apps from another account on the iDevice?

    The account has nothing to do with it.
    Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
    if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    My 1G tv unit refuses to start. When powered the indicator light continuously flashes Amber. No connection to my television is made. Is there any way to reset the unit?

    Well I am stuck then, I have unplugged and replugged in so many times. It can fine the network fine, but keeps saying that it has the latest update. We have managed to up date all the other computes, i pad and i phone fine, its just the Apple TV2 that will not do it.
    Could it be that it just takes time for Canada to get the update?

    Everything works fine except that the radio application that refuses to start with my bluetooth headset.
    The radio app is requiring a wired headset being connected.
    Is this  expected ? Or is this a bug ?

    i recently purhcased a Nokia 5230 and everything worked until this week when the FM radio just refused to work. I was able to get all local stations no problem, on the phone it is showing RDS AF however when i try to do it manually it will  not allow me to change to turning the auto scan off, I have since purchased the correct headphones but the radio still will not work, also am getting a message that this new headset is a default accessory!!

  • Mail.app refuses to start up

    Hi all:
    Today I encountered a problem using mail.app with my dotmac account. When try to run the application, either by clicking its icon in the applications folder or from the dock, I get the spinning beach ball, which is followed by an error message stating:
    'Mail cannot update your mailboxes because your home directory is full.
    You must free up space in your home folder before using Mail. Delete unneeded documents or move documents to another volume.
    Quit mail.'
    I'm not sure what to do as my hard disk (only one volume/partition) is not full at all. It's an 80 GB HD with more than 13GB of free space. The problem started after a restart and has never occurred before. Is this due to a corrupt preference file or the likes? Any ideas?
    I can still log into my account and read my mail using webmail.

    Hi, I have the sam exact problem with the same exact error message. I have never had a problem before. This only started happening 3 days ago out of the blue for no apparent reason. I have plenty of free space, over 100 gb's. I tried trashing the preference file, that didn't work. I tired archiving all my old messages, that didn't work as well. I too am able too access my messages online thru the web based .mac web page. what gives. can anyone help? apple, are you listening?

  • GTK3 apps refusing to start

    I've switched from LXDE/openbox to Compiz/emerald and am having a strange problem with GTK3 apps (tested with nm-applet and nautilus).
    Starting from a terminal gives the following error;

    the application is unable to start and just hangs, taking up 100% of one of my cpu cores. I've had a look at the gtk-widgets.css but can't see where there's a missing ')' (its clearly not at 1217:17).
    I'm currently using the Think_Correctly_GTK theme which includes GTK2 and 3 themes, both of which worked fine under LXDE.
    If I change the GTK2 to a different theme and try to start again I get;

    Same theme parsing error, however now both nm-applet and nautilus start, if I then switch the GTK2 theme back they're ok until I close and reopen nautilus.
    Any idea how to resolve this apart from using a different theme?

  • How do I find out if my 'non apple' paid apps will stop working when I upgrade to iOS 5?

    I have downloaded apps from both apple and other developers.
    I have paid for some of these apps.
    Since there are numerous apps that I use, is there a generic way to know for sure on whether the apps will still work when I upgrade to iOS5?

    Unless the problem was caused by abuse or other accidental damage, Apple will exchange your in-warranty iPod with a refurbished one at no cost. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store for the exchange.

  • In house apps refusing to start

    Hi Everyone,
    Crazy situation.
    Users are installing the iTunes on the machines as instructed.
    The users are using the applications as instructed, but when they connect
    the device to the machine with iTunes, and restart the applications on the iPod touch, the applications just flash that they are starting, then exit.
    It almost appears that the in house distribution certificate is not on the devices.
    On devices that have not connected to the iTunes, the apps start and run with no problems. As soon as they the devices to the iTunes machine, the applications stop working.
    So my question is this....
    Is there a way to stop iTunes from doing anything other than run in the background?
    I guess there is a part two....
    How do i distribute the in house distribution certificate???

    Update -
    It seems the users that "barnstormed" the installation are what is causing the issues.
    When I distribute iTunes without bonjour and update and sync'ing, the units work well. Its when the users did the iTunes themselves, either having an iPod before they received the company issued devices, or an iPhone and have already installed iTunes in the normal way.
    The moment they connected the iPod touch to the machine and do a sync, it wiped out the provisioning profile on the device.
    This is why the apps are showing in the system. They start to run, flash the screen, then drop out back to the OS.
    When i sent out the ICU, and included the provisioning profile, installed the profile back on to the system, the applications ran fine.

  • Idea Tab A8-50 (A5500)- PAID apps won't install

    I purchased an A5500 (A8-50) tablet in May in Austria/Europe. I noticed an issue concerning the use of PAID apps purchased from Google Play Store. I do not experience these problems with any other devices or Android-versions. I received a replacement but still the same issues. I called Lenovo Support, but it could not help at all.
    4.2.2:
    Out of the box the A5-80 runs Android 4.2.2. You may install and use free Apps from Google Play Store with no problems. Paid apps are downloaded and installed. You may run the app afterwards, however, once you turn off the device (shut down) your paid apps get lost. After boot-up free apps work as usual. PAID apps won’t start at all. Android displays “Anwendung ist nicht installiert” (“Application not installed”). There is no problem in re-downloading and re-installing the paid apps from Google Play again. One may also use these apps – until reboot. This has to be a bug, not a feature – I am not keen on having to install every paid app again after any reboot. Not shutting down the tablet is not option for me.
    4.4.2:
    OTA Upgrades form Lenovo do solve the problem either. The first to upgrades (after receiving the device) are 4.2.2-updates. The third one upgrades to Android 4.4.2. After such update PAID apps won’t install at all. There is no issue with free apps. The latest update (July 9, 2014; “still” 4.4.2) does not bring any change. PAID apps are downloaded from Google Play Store but not installed. Rather Android displays an error message "Installation auf dem USB-Speicher bzw. der SD-Karte fehlgeschlagen" (Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card). In my opinion this can only refer to internal memory as no external SD-Card is installed and free apss are installed as usual.
    Does anyone else experience these problems?
    Is there a resolution to this?

    Hi,
    It is not a swype bug (Swype is also one of the paid apps I use). It relates to any paid app. Free apps (as you experienced with the Swype free) have no problems.

  • Apple music app starts automatically in car since ios 8 update on iPhone 5

    Since updating to iOS 8 on an iPhone 5 (thru iTunes on laptop), apple music app starts on its' own in the car using bluetooth.
    It would start playing music after I started the igniton-though I never use that app or leave music of any sort running in my car when I turn car off.
    Other times, it starts music if I use Google Maps or apples' iMessage . Quite annoying.

    II'm sorry, I thought I'd updated to 8.02 but I checked and I only have 8.0.  I'm afraid to update to 8.02 as I've been reading both good and bad about it, like it may fix my app problem but screw up my Wi-fi.   I don't know what to do.   I'm between a rock and a hard place.

    When i puchased my Ipad 2 i purchased a couple of paid apps for my little daugther, however due the damage she caused to my device, i decided to buy a new ipad.
    I need to keep my Apple ID intact and thats why i have created a new one for my wife to be used with her apps and my little dauther apps.
    My question is: How to change just a couple of paid apps from my account to the new account? Do i have to buy the apps again to use it trough the new Apple ID?

    yes u do. there is no way to transfer apps to another apple id.
    u can, however, keep the same apple id signed into the itunes/app section of every device and be able to keep ur apps. if u want wife and daughter to have different apple id's then just sign into those id's in the other places (like icloud settings) but leave urs signed into the itunes.
    if u do that then it might be a good idea to put restrictions on the other devices to prevent ur daughter from being able to buy anything

    See, I have 2 apple id one has all paid apps in it (this is my dad's id) and the other apple id has all free apps in it (this apple id is mine!)     Apps are tied to the Apple ID, so you can't use apps from different Apple IDs on one device.

  • Will Apple configurator work when Ipads already have paid apps on them via VPP redemption code

    HI - we have 60 ipads under our care, and until very recently we bought apps using the VPP redemption code method, and loaded them on manually - there was something in the Ts&Cs which allowed you to load a code onto one ipad, then as long as you had enough codes, you could auto install apps on multiple ipads using the same apple id.  We have a master backup on the icloud.
    We have now got a Mac and I was looking into using Apple Configurator, but I'm not sure how that will work with existing paid apps already on the ipads.  Can anyone give me some pointers?

    Wait unti the app is done downloading in your iTunes. Then go back to your VPP account and down load the spreadsheet again and upload into configurator. The process is a pain, but the only way it works for you to get all of your codes into configurator.
