Apple photo app marketing.... Worst ever!

I can understand Apples move to shut down Aperture and move on to the new Photo App.  I can also understand their implementation of an announcement by letting a few key Photo sites know about the change. Finally, I can also understand Apples need to keep new product specifications secret until its nearly time to release.
But what I cannot understand is the lack of information for us thousands of loyal Aperture users.  They would not have to say much.  They could say something like... " to our loyal Aperture useres... Photo App will not only migrate all of your current libraries, add iCloud connectiviity, but all the capabilities you had and more will be available in Photo App".  That sort of statement would leave me happy and looking forward to the new release.  And no critical competiton sensitive info is released.
The problem is that they did not say anything like this.  So either the Photo App will NOT have most or all of Aperture features OR the Apple/Photo App marketing team are idiots.  Because I am left with the feeling that they are dumping us loyal users.  It makes me want to dump Apple for my photo processing and DAM.... Just to get even.
The last 15 years of my career was marketing and business development albeit a different business area.  But we  also discontinued old but good products that had good customer bases.  But for the most part we NEVER told a loyal customer that we are dumping thier Beloved product and replacing it with a new one with secret capability with no assurance that their same needs will be met.  We would at least say stuff like.... This new product will blow your socks off or  meet all of your requirements and More!
I think it is nearly unforgivable to leave us loyal Aperture users on the lurch on this.... depending out our loyalty to Apple to keep us a customer.
Maybe the answer is that this situation has been pulled from the hands of the Apple Aperture team and given over to the Yosemite team.   Where photo processing and DAM are oriented to the Masses who want to do simple iphone like processing like make this photo look like a scratchy polaroid.......

The thing that annoys me about the "wait and see" argument here is this:  Now that there is a question of whether or not my Aperture library will transition to a Photos application that serves my needs, the last thing I want is to put another 6 months of work into Aperture only to find out then that I need to laboriously move that 6 months of work -- in addition to the years before it -- into another tool.  If I need to transition eventually, I very much want to do it right now to minimize the disruption.
It would be polite for Apple to provide a rundown of what functionality will and won't be available in Photos at release.  If it's enough of Aperture's functionality (or hoefully better in some ways!) for me to use it, then I will very happily keep using Aperture for a year.  However, if Photos is going to remove stuff that I need, then I desperately want to get working on moving to Capture One or Lightroom right away.  As it is, limiting the promises in the announcement to the ability to move our libraries over, with zero mention of functionality once we get there, certainly leaves the impression that we shouldn't get our hopes up.  If their goal was to truly replace Aperture with something even better, why wouldn't they say that?

  • With Apple Photos app

Since trying to migrate 43k photos in about 200 albums to the new Apple Photo App my Apple TV is showing only a small random assortment of photos and no longer albums.
This was a ten year project of putting together family albums of family events. It is not there anymore.....
How do I get Apple TV to again show my albums from before "Photos."?

The only solution seems to be iTunes Home Sharing (go to iTunes, File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos to share with Apple TV). In the window that pops up, choose "Share Photos from", and pick Photos. You then get a choice of "All photos and albums" or "Selected albums".
In case you use multiple Photos libraries, this will only show the primary library albums (the library labeled System Photo Library). There seems to be no way to choose albums from the iCloud Photos library on the Apple TV. I've filed bug with Apple, and encourage everyone to do so if you're interested in this capability.

What program and version do you have on your Mac computer - Photoshop Elements and its Elements Organizer or Premiere Elements and its Elements Organizer?
The nature of your question suggests that you may be dealing with Photoshop Elements and its Elements Organizer. If that is the case, please post your question in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum.
    Photoshop Elements
Your thread has been posted to the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum (video editing)..
    Please clarify your program.

  • Apple Photos app.

I have been using iPhoto to organize photos on my MacBook Pro, doing complex edits in Elements 13 and archivine to the cloud with Adobe Revel.  OSx Yosemite just "upgraded" iPhoto to Photos, and it seems like a significant downgrade.  Is there one of the Photoshop cloud applications that does everything I need on a Mac/iPad to organize, edit and store in cloud?  I'm a farily serious amature, taking about 3,000 photos a year, with a library of 30,000 images.  If one of the versions of Creative Cloud will work for me, can the Revel library be converted?

Thanks , I really appreciate the reply.
In a way, I'm not looking to "compress", almost the opposite. I'd like to be able to export a video file from the (new) apple Photo app that is equivalent the the original file , not a compressed inferior offering !
I must admit . In the past I used iPhotos and Aperture. Now its a mess. The new Photo app won't do what the combination of both apps once did and  and using Aperture is impractical now its unsupported nd no longer shares the database in the way iPhoto did . Apple exasperate me sometimes !

  • How to use iphoto after yosemite 10.10.3, that have disabled it for new photo app?

My iMac did install new yosemite 10.10.3 telling me that new Photo app was "best ever" but now I can't open old iPhoto library because it was in old format of iPhoto library and the iPhoto app was now unusable because new Photo app. Can you help me!!??

and the iPhoto app was now unusable because new Photo app. Can you help me!!??
Which version of iPhoto do you have installed?  With Yosemite, MacOS X 10.10.3, you need to update iPhoto to version 9.6.1.  Only that version is fully compatible.
Apple stopped selling iPhoto, but anyone who bought iPhoto from the AppStore or updated it to a version sold at the App Store (iPhoto 9.4.5 or later) will be able to reinstall from the App Store by downloading from the Purchases tab.
If you have any version of iPhoto, that has been updated from the AppStore and is associated with your Apple ID, try to reinstall from the "Purchases" page.
Unhide iPhoto, if it is hidden on your Purchases page (See this link: Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases)
Trash the incompatible iPhoto version, but don't empty the Trash.
Reload your Purchases page at the App Store with ⌘R
    Then download from that page.
The step "Trash the incompatible iPhoto version, but don't empty the Trash."  must not be skipped. If Spotlight sees a version of iPhoto installed, the AppStore will try to update instead of reinstall, which does not work.

  • Photoshop won't open photos from Mac photo app

I'm just trying to open some of my photos into photoshop to do some editing. When I click "open" then try to go to the photos which are in the Apple Photo app, photoshop doesn't recognize them. That's the only location the photos are in. Someone help?!

    Good day!
    What do you mean by
the photos which are in the Apple Photo app
Do the images not exist as files of their own in a format like tif, jpg, psd, …?

  • IPhone 6 Plus - screen swipe problem in photo apps

I am having issues swiping at at the bottom of my screen, but strangely it only seems to be in photo editing based apps, which suggests it is is some kind of software issue. My wife also has the same issue with her iPhone 6 Plus so I know it is not just my phone.
For example, in Snapseed the filter options are all along the bottom of the screen but when I try to swipe though them I often get no response or it opens the filter I first touched and swiped on (as if I have tapped it rather than swiped). The same goes for many other photo apps that have filter options to swipe through at the bottom of the screen, including the actual Apple photo app when in edit mode.
In the case of Snapseed, I do manage to swipe the filter options along if I can just touch the area between the actual filter icons, but it is a very small space and hard to touch without hitting one of the icons.
Its not a screen sensitivity issue as I have no problem with response when tapping, also I have no problems in other types of apps, just photo editing ones. The BBC weather app require swiping through the days at the bottom of the screen and is fully responsive.
I am hoping it will be noticed and corrected in future software updates either to iOS or the individual apps, but for now it is massively frustrating.
    Anyone else?

I've also experienced this same problem using snapseed.  It's really frustrating to use the app.

  • Using an external editor with Apple Photos

After upgrading to Os X 10.10.3 today and using the new Apple Photos app for the first time, I was very disappointed not to find a way to edit photos in an external editor, as I could do with iPhoto. Sure, I can export the image file, edit it in another program, save it, and then re-import it, but that is somewhat of a kludge IMO compared to the smooth way this function worked in iPhoto.  I'm happy with the expanded editing options available within Apple Photos, but some things simply can't be done within it. Please, Apple, make adding this capability a priority task for the first upgrade to Apple Photos! Or is it available already and I just missed it?
    Regards, Jim

In my case,  I open Photoshop Elements, then choose Open File.  I find the photo that I want to work with under "Photos".  When I am finished editing, I save the file to "Pictures" giving it a name I can remember.  Then I import it into the new version of iPhoto (called Photos) from "Pictures".
The Media Browser in the Media section of the Sidebar is very convenient to use the library in other apps, but it will not always pass the original Master file to the When you are using the Media Browser like this, you will get mixed results, depending on whether the photo already has been edited or not.
When I pass a photo to PSE using the "Photos" icon in the Media section to PSE
For an unedited photo, PSE will receive the original master file, not as copy, but the original in the Masters folder in the library.
For an edited photo it will receive an optimised version and not the original file, stored in "resources > modelressources" in your photos library.  As far as I can see, the photos in "modelressources" are the same pixel size, but have a higher JPEG compression than the originals in the Master folder.  The file size is slightly less.
So, for edited photos you may be using a lesser quality image file, when you access the library using the Media Browser.
Be careful, when you open unedited photos this way. With "Save as" in PSE you can write your edits directly back to the Masters folder and overwrite the original master file.
I just tried to edit an unedited photo this way in PSE:
That is how the Photo looked in Photos before editing:
After editing a frame in PSE 12 I am seeing this "Save As" dialog in PSE:
It will write back to the Photos library into the Masters folder.
After allowing PSE to overwrite file it received the file, I am seeing this, when I try to edit the version.  Photos is now using the replaced original file, that PSE wrote to the Masters folder.
I duplicated the photo in Photos before sending it to PSE, but since the duplicate is sharing the same original file with the first version, now bothe the first image and its unedited duplicate are both showing the frame added in PSE:

  • New Photos app and iCloud backup.

I have recently downloaded a beta version of the new Apple Photos App brought in to replace iPhoto. It stores all your images in the Cloud so they can be accessed and viewed on all your devices without the limitations of photo stream. This is what I gather anyway. What is not clear is whether original copies of all my photos will remain on my hard drive, or will they only be backed up in the Cloud and then deleted from computer? I know eventually everything is going to be stored in the Cloud, but I would still like to all my photographs backed up on my mac as well!

You can't at this time.  Photos is still in beta and is lacking quite a few of the features that iPhoto has.  I strongly suggest you continue with iPhoto until Photos is officially released and has all of the features in iPhoto that you require.  Right now it's really not ready for prime time IMO.

  • Does Apple Canada have the worst customer support ever?

    Yes! Ask me why...
I'm posting here a) to warn other Mac users what to expect if you ever need customer support and b) because there's no where you can actually e-mail comments to Apple, and trying to contact customer support has been fruitless (see below).
    Here's what happened to me...
I bought my iBook just under three years ago - a few weeks ago, the logic board went. Now, because I purchased the computer less than three years ago, that's covered under the extended warranty for iBook logic boards (see here: http://www.apple.com/support/ibook/faq/).
Simple, right? Well, I took my computer in to my local authorized service provider about three weeks ago. They confirmed the logic board was the problem... copied my receipt for the iBook to prove date of purchase... agreed that it was covered by the warranty.
However, when they sent all this to Apple, their reply was that it was NOT covered because it was manufactured more than three years ago (although Apple's own website says it's purchase date - not manufacture date - that's important).
I called Apple last Monday to find out what was going on. Spoke to a nice fellow named Kevin who said he'd look into it, and call me back the next day.
Next day passed... no call. I called Kevin back left a message, and indicated I'd like to know what was going on.
Wednesday passed... no call. By this point, I'm getting anxious - the service provider can't move ahead without authoriztion from Apple, Apple's not returning my calls (or the service provider's) to grant authorization.
I tried Kevin again on Thursday. Left another message. No reply.
Tried back on Friday morning. Left another message. Still no reply.
Called customer support again Friday night. Antoine puts me hold for a half hour. I call back, explain that I've been on hold for half an hour, ask how long the wait should be. Antoine says two or three minutes. He puts me on hold again.
    For another ten minutes.
I call back. Antoine explains that the reason I'm on hold is probably because customer service is closed. So why was I on hold for nearly an hour listening to terrible music? That's one of the mysteries of Apple customer support...
So here I am, with a computer that's been in the shop nearly three weeks, that can't be repaired because Apple won't honour its warranty, and no way to even find out what's going on, because Apple's customer service is such an unnavigable maze.
The sad thing is, I usually like Apples. I was even going to buy a new one this summer.
    Now - not a chance.
The moral of the story? If you own an Apple, pray nothing ever goes wrong with it. If you expect your computer to ever need repairs, I'd suggest getting rid of your Apple now.
If you're considering buying an Apple - consider again.
As for me - from now on, make mine Microsoft.
    iBook G3 700   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Does Apple Canada have the worst customer support ever?
    I doubt it.
Seriously, would you like some help?
Call back, and don't mess around with Customer Service. Immediately ask for Customer Relations. These are the people whose job it is to make an unhappy customer happy again. They aim to please.
A polite, but seriously disappointed tone of voice is what you need, so take some deep breaths until you can achieve that.
There was an article in the February, 2005, issue of Reader's Digest called "How to Complain." Please read these tips. Then call and tell Customer Relations your sad experience with Customer Service.
    How to Complain
You call customer service to complain about a product, and you hang up angrier than when you started. That’s customer rage, a feeling experienced by millions of people with a major complaint, says Scott Broetzmann, president of an American firm that tells companies how to offer the best customer service. His secrets to getting good service:
    Have a goal
If you want your product repaired, say so. Want an apology? Speak up.
    Keep it short
Focus on one problem, and be succinct.
    Stick with it.
You have to invest the time it takes. Don’t get what you want? Ask for a supervisor.
    Skip ultimatums
Don’t threaten not to do business with them again. Why should they help you if you won’t buy from them in the future?
    Plead your case
Many companies have information such as how much money you’ve spent with them and how often you complain. If you’re a good customer, they may be more willing to help.
    Be nice
You’re unlikely to get what you want if you’re rude.
    Good luck!
(P.S. Microsoft doesn't make computers; just the crappy OS that goes on them.)

  • When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts.

When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts. They are unable to download the file as the size sent. We have tested this in multiple gmail accounts and we have tried sending as different sizes and actual size with no difference. Other photos attached in other ways come through fine. This seems to be a a result of the recent iphotos to photos app update.
Please advise on if this is a bug with how mail is ending the photos or how gmail is receiving them.

Try using Mail as the email client for iPhoto and see if that will fix the problem:

Why can't I add a location to a photo in the new Photos app?  Apple appears to have taken away a feature without asking.

I have an iPhone and occasionally use it for photos, but my main camera is NOT an iPhone.  To be forced to go outside Apple for a product when Apple had perfectly good products available is ludicrous.  But it is what it is, apparently.

Help: I have recently downloaded the newest software version for apple products. I have a iPod touch. After the process of updating my software, my photo app doesn't work anymore. I can't take pictures or view them at all. Every time I try opening the app it kicks me out of it and sends me to the home screen. I have tried turning off my iPod and back on multiple times. Even double tapping the home screen button and closing my opened apps. And I tried looking for the photo app in the app store but I did not see it. So I am wondering what can I do? And is this due to the new software update? Does anyone else have this problem?

No, I have not tried any backup tools. I havent restored my ipod back to factory settings yet and then sync everything back on it. I am kind of scared too because I dont want to lose anything. I have just been hoping some new apple software update will come out because I know several people have had problems when updating to the newest version available.

Can anyone suggest how to fix please? Also, cannot delete test photos from"photos" app, brought in from Dropbox. Can anyone tell me how to do this please?
    All help gratefully received.

You should be able to redownload it via the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your iPad - if it's not showing there (you haven't changed countries since buying the app ?) then check to see if it's hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
For the photos, if they are in the Camera Roll album in the Photos app then you can either delete them via the trashcan icon in the bottom right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the Select button top right in thumbnail view.
