Apple, please describe the limited WPA2 support accurately

The marketing description for the Airport Express normally say that the Airport Express supports WPA and WPA2. (See pretty much everyplace that sells it for proof.)
But buried in the footnotes of the Tech Specs is this:
"When joining an existing wireless network, AirPort Express supports only WPA-Personal. WPA2 requires a Mac computer with an AirPort Extreme Card and Mac OS X v10.3 or later. "
So many (and perhaps a substantial majority) of applications for the Apple Express cannot use WPA2.
It would save many hours of torture for Apple customers to be clearer about this, whenever WPA2 is mentioned.
Plus, it has some important ramifications. You generally can't get N wireless speeds on a network where clients use WPA.

Jolly Giant, I expect more good will be done by getting the word out here. It seems not to be as widely known as it should be, judging from the other unanswered-for-several-weeks question.
Tesserax, if that's what Apple means (that they're really talking about AES), then they should say more precisely what they mean. It's not actually helpful to guess, and really no offense intended but you clearly don't know enough about networks in the real world to opine on this. See below. (Given the huge diversity of network gear out there, it's near impossible anyway.)
But the point wasn't to get distracted about encryption, but to try to give people a heads up that they are not going to succeed in joining a WPA2 network. And if it is their own network, that they may want to consider how best to manage that - shift to WPA/TKIP, add an access point running WPA/TKIP, etc.
As far as "So many (and perhaps a substantial majority) of applications for the Apple Express cannot use WPA2." What that means is, many (perhaps most) people want to use the AE to join an existing network, at least some of the time. They can't if that network uses WPA2. That would be helpful for more people to know.
It is a little surprising, but this assumption turns out not to be reliably true:
"Enabling encryption on wireless networks will reduce the overall bandwidth in order to provide the necessary support for encryption communications. The stronger the encryption protocol, the greater the amount of overhead necessary."
Real world tests sometimes (often?) show the opposite. It probably depends on the hardware, as newer hardware will handle AES in hardware rather than in software. In any case, it turns out not to be the actual measured result - throughput can be higher with AES.
The key point there was actually that networks will not deliver N Wireless speeds unless one uses WPA2. They will limit themselves to 54mbps in many cases. See for example these articles:
http://blogs.techworld.com/war-on-error/2009/10/fast-wi-fis-little-secret---you- have-to-turn-on-wpa2-encryption/index.htm
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-basics/30664-5-ways-to-fix-slow -80211n-speed
You may want to Google some on these last two point (how TKIP and AES as well as WPA and WPA2 affect netwok throughput).

  • Does Apple Canada have the worst customer support ever?

    Yes! Ask me why...
I'm posting here a) to warn other Mac users what to expect if you ever need customer support and b) because there's no where you can actually e-mail comments to Apple, and trying to contact customer support has been fruitless (see below).
    Here's what happened to me...
I bought my iBook just under three years ago - a few weeks ago, the logic board went. Now, because I purchased the computer less than three years ago, that's covered under the extended warranty for iBook logic boards (see here: http://www.apple.com/support/ibook/faq/).
Simple, right? Well, I took my computer in to my local authorized service provider about three weeks ago. They confirmed the logic board was the problem... copied my receipt for the iBook to prove date of purchase... agreed that it was covered by the warranty.
However, when they sent all this to Apple, their reply was that it was NOT covered because it was manufactured more than three years ago (although Apple's own website says it's purchase date - not manufacture date - that's important).
I called Apple last Monday to find out what was going on. Spoke to a nice fellow named Kevin who said he'd look into it, and call me back the next day.
Next day passed... no call. I called Kevin back left a message, and indicated I'd like to know what was going on.
Wednesday passed... no call. By this point, I'm getting anxious - the service provider can't move ahead without authoriztion from Apple, Apple's not returning my calls (or the service provider's) to grant authorization.
I tried Kevin again on Thursday. Left another message. No reply.
Tried back on Friday morning. Left another message. Still no reply.
Called customer support again Friday night. Antoine puts me hold for a half hour. I call back, explain that I've been on hold for half an hour, ask how long the wait should be. Antoine says two or three minutes. He puts me on hold again.
    For another ten minutes.
I call back. Antoine explains that the reason I'm on hold is probably because customer service is closed. So why was I on hold for nearly an hour listening to terrible music? That's one of the mysteries of Apple customer support...
So here I am, with a computer that's been in the shop nearly three weeks, that can't be repaired because Apple won't honour its warranty, and no way to even find out what's going on, because Apple's customer service is such an unnavigable maze.
The sad thing is, I usually like Apples. I was even going to buy a new one this summer.
    Now - not a chance.
The moral of the story? If you own an Apple, pray nothing ever goes wrong with it. If you expect your computer to ever need repairs, I'd suggest getting rid of your Apple now.
If you're considering buying an Apple - consider again.
As for me - from now on, make mine Microsoft.
    iBook G3 700   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Does Apple Canada have the worst customer support ever?
    I doubt it.
Seriously, would you like some help?
Call back, and don't mess around with Customer Service. Immediately ask for Customer Relations. These are the people whose job it is to make an unhappy customer happy again. They aim to please.
A polite, but seriously disappointed tone of voice is what you need, so take some deep breaths until you can achieve that.
There was an article in the February, 2005, issue of Reader's Digest called "How to Complain." Please read these tips. Then call and tell Customer Relations your sad experience with Customer Service.
    How to Complain
You call customer service to complain about a product, and you hang up angrier than when you started. That’s customer rage, a feeling experienced by millions of people with a major complaint, says Scott Broetzmann, president of an American firm that tells companies how to offer the best customer service. His secrets to getting good service:
    Have a goal
If you want your product repaired, say so. Want an apology? Speak up.
    Keep it short
Focus on one problem, and be succinct.
    Stick with it.
You have to invest the time it takes. Don’t get what you want? Ask for a supervisor.
    Skip ultimatums
Don’t threaten not to do business with them again. Why should they help you if you won’t buy from them in the future?
    Plead your case
Many companies have information such as how much money you’ve spent with them and how often you complain. If you’re a good customer, they may be more willing to help.
    Be nice
You’re unlikely to get what you want if you’re rude.
    Good luck!
(P.S. Microsoft doesn't make computers; just the crappy OS that goes on them.)

    Hey Debbiered1,
Follow the steps in this link to resolve the issue:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
When you uninstall, the items you uninstall and the order in which you do so are particularly important:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    Take care,

Is there any other way to fix before I try to un-install everything and re-install back?

Has anyone successfully connected an AEBS to the new Panasonic TVs with built-in WiFi?  If so, please describe the requirements and process.  (TV subscription is through DirecTV and ISP is TWC.)  Thanks.

If you wish to use the cellular capabilities of a device, you will need a SIM (unless the carrier uses CDMA which doesn't use SIMs) and you will have to pay a cell carrier. No cell company provides service for free. The only way you will get free Internet is via WiFi to a free and open WiFi access point, as sometimes is offered in public buildings or by some businesses.

  • This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way please contact the application's support

I randomly get this error message "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support."
    Here's a picture of it. http://i48.tinypic.com/35hradh.jpg
It doesn't tell me what application or process is responsible. :/
It pops up randomly when I wait long enough. It will pop up even if I don't have anything open and I just leave my computer to idle. When I close it or click okay, windows explorer gui will crash and restart. I can still use the computer after this without
restarting but again if I wait long enough it will occur again. I've look around and tried many solutions but nothing has worked.
I've tried a full virus scan, and malware scan with no luck. Tried the registry cleaner from CCleaner and doesn't fix it. I've ran it in safe mode and the error didn't seem to occur or maybe I didn't wait long enough (30-40 minutes).  I've tried a SFC
scan and nothing comes up as wrong. I've done a cleanboot several times with no help. I can't do a system restore since the latest restore point is on the same day that I got the error unfortunately.
When the error occurs the pop up window is from Microsoft Visual C++. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ for my 2010 versions but with no luck. I've uninstalled the recent programs that I installed and no help either.

    Hi ,
Do you remember if you  have installed some software prior to this issue?
    Delete programs you never use.
If the issue reoccurs in Clean Boot, but works fine in Safe Mode, the cause may be the disabled hardware drivers. You may narrow down the
    causes in Device Clean Boot.
    Device Clean Boot
    =================
    1. Click Start, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter.
    2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers".
    3. Right click on your sound card and then click "Properties.
    4. In the dropdown menu of Device Usage, please choose "Do not use this device (disable)" and click OK.
    5. Please use the same method to disable other dubious hardware such as: internal modem, network card and CD-R drive. Please note some devices
such as video adapter are not available to be disabled.

  • Please describe the application's ability to integrate to ext master data

Please describe the application's ability to integrate to external master data sources. For example: product, vendor, and customer.

    Hi,
The difference is in the segments that each one includes, you can check it in transaction WE30 for example for
the IDOC Type HRMD_A07 (which is linked to HRMD_A)vs. the IDOC type HRMD_ABA05 (which is linked to HRMD_ABA)
The first one manages more record, therefore you can send more infotypes. This is because its manages all the standard OM information.
The HRMD_ABA is more used if your destinatio is a CRM or SRM system which requires less data.

I just had the same error:
    R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.  Please contact the apps support team for more info.
I went to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 and did a complete removal and reinstallation of iTunes. You MUST follow the directions here exactly...it's more than just iTunes that must be removed, and it MUST be done in the order in which the support article says.  I followed the exact instructions, and iTunes is back on my machine (no more C runtime error) and you do NOT lose your music...it's all in my library, as it was before.
    Good luck!

You know after apple revamped iTunes 12, and I think that they did a great job,, I started to think about the  genres.  I really wish that I had control over what genres appeared in my list because the overwhelming majority go unused and I'd like to have only the ones that are pertinent to me in my list.  So apple if you are reading this please allow the end user to choose which genres appear in their list and allow them to delete the rest.

Hulu, Netflix and my personal videos have been working fairly well on appletv. Suddenly, without warning, they have all failed. My subscription via my apple ID is on automatic renewal, so the issue of non-paid services does not arise. On the other hand, YouTube is working perfectly well on appleTV.
Several solutions offered in the discussion group such as setting the appletv on sleep mode are not technical solutions. Rather, these solutions offered remind me of analogue age, when one had to hit the side of a TV set when reception failed.
In my case, I am using the same HD TV set that has been working all along. A new cable has failed, but if I am told to pay for an advice related to a fault that is not mine, I would rather buy a set box that is void of appletv or apple.
Apple please give a clear, well defined technical solution on the problem with your device, and to be specific on the following error:
"This content requires HDCP for playback"
I know what HDCP is, and one cannot say that this is related to a dynamic code that evolves with time, failing at a time of its convinience.

It is considered rude to double post on a fourm.

  • Can Apple please improve the approval system for application updates? I can't keep waiting months to get the latest bug fixes!

For example why has Coda 2 not been updated to version 2.0.4? Apple needs to improve the approval system. It has now been 2 months since Apple has approved Coda 2 updates. Coda 2 is not the only application experiencing similar issues. It is embarrasing when a vendor has to say this has been fixed but we are awaiting approval from Apple to update the app on the app store.
How embarrasing Apple! I am a long time Mac and iOS user myself and even I am strongly considering alternative solutions, need I say more.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
And if the developer is lying to you? Perhaps the developer has failed to follow the Apple guidelines for iOS apps. To blame it on Apple alone is awfully convenient.
