Apple please give us "Video Only" capture warning

I did it again this morning. We have three editors in our shop. The guy on previous to me set capture to video only. I come on the system unaware of this setting, I re-set the scratch drive, but still don't see it is set for video only. I capture three hours of logged footage and set it to batch overnight. Come in this morning and, well...you know the rest. FCP will give you a "audio only" warning, but no "video only" warning. WHY?!

I've done this to myself – faster turn around situations than yours, so I've caught the mistake quickly, but the consequences were a bit more immediate.
I curse myself. Then I curse at the computer. Then I curse at myself.
And then I start over. And then I make nice with the producer.
My habits have improved.
I think this falls into the category of, "people are stupid in predictable ways," and it sure is nice when the software catches you before you blow it.
Maybe I should speak for myself. I am stupid in predicable ways.
I work on a server system (not a mac) with limited undo functionality that will blow away everything with just four keystrokes. None of this mamby pamby, "Are you sure? Are you really, really sure?" stuff from that system.
I haven't done that yet, but I figure it is only a matter of time.

hello the history is the only place where firefox stores the visited pages. change your settings in firefox > options > privacy when you want to keep the visited sites in the future & make sure that no external programs (like security or "tune-up" software) is clearing the history either. when firefox is launched in private borwsing mode, it won't keep history information for this session.

Apple Please give us a Matte Option on the iMac!

Apple,
PLEASE give us an OPTION of choosing a Matte Screen instead of a Glossy Screen on the iMac! I would be two iMacs today if I had this option. For now, I am not upgrading and using my old iMacs.

such a shame: i want to delete a book - it was free - is not visible in purchase - so nothing to hide.

I am working with a colleage who is running FCS 2 on a Macbook Pro with no problems at all to really report. It's a drag that you are having so many issues, but posting "Apple please give me a new desktop" really doesn't help anyone on the boards who are really looking for good answers to good problems.
Sorry to criticize but maybe you can ebay your Macbook or something or maybe you have some software conflicts or something.

Can Apple please give the option to remove synching video?

Can Apple please add the toggle option for video for iCloud synching. It is eating up all of my space due to the fact that I did not purchase them from Apple.

Wouldn't it be nice if Apple listened to its customers. I keep coming across the same question every time Iweb is updated, such as How to change the look of the navigator menu? How to link to a certain part of a page ect... If it wasn't for all the people who answer our questions, I for one would be screwed! Apple, please listen to us and give us what we have been asking for for a long time!
PS. I hope you guys such as Old Toad, Ethmoid, Cyclosaurus ect.. realise how much we appreciate your help!

Much can be done now in iweb3 but the iweb team has kept everything 'close to their vest'.
I know how to get thru and into iweb with javascript widget, I hinted here:

but an average joe can't, so it is up to iweb team to have an open framework/API that we (the technical people and average joe) can work with... as dashcode for dashboard widget.

Hulu, Netflix and my personal videos have been working fairly well on appletv. Suddenly, without warning, they have all failed. My subscription via my apple ID is on automatic renewal, so the issue of non-paid services does not arise. On the other hand, YouTube is working perfectly well on appleTV.
Several solutions offered in the discussion group such as setting the appletv on sleep mode are not technical solutions. Rather, these solutions offered remind me of analogue age, when one had to hit the side of a TV set when reception failed.
In my case, I am using the same HD TV set that has been working all along. A new cable has failed, but if I am told to pay for an advice related to a fault that is not mine, I would rather buy a set box that is void of appletv or apple.
Apple please give a clear, well defined technical solution on the problem with your device, and to be specific on the following error:
"This content requires HDCP for playback"
I know what HDCP is, and one cannot say that this is related to a dynamic code that evolves with time, failing at a time of its convinience.

Removing a feature that users use is simple poor customer support.

SyncServices has been deprecated (ie will be removed in a future update) since Lion was released two years ago. It was a horrible solution wrought with errors, so they went to an open standards based system, CalDAV and CardDAV.
While Apple may be able to enable a local CalDAV and CardDAV server, I really doubt they will restore the old SyncServices debacle.
Since we are not employed by Apple, and we have no contact with Apple, we can't do anything to bring back the features you want. You'll have to contact Apple for that.

HDMI is required to connect the Apple TV to a TV or through a receiver. The optical connection is for audio only.

Have you tried a reset first? If it works, you won't have to go through the restore process.
Hold down the sleep (upper right hand top) and the home button at the same time. A slider will appear. Ignore it and keep holding down the buttons. The Apple logo shoud appear. Then your ipad might work again. It takes a good 15 seconds. You will not lose anything on your ipad.
If you try it a couple of times and it doesn't work, you might have to go through the restore process as has been suggested above. But follow the steps so you don't lose your data.

Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter is not working. Please Help...

I bought an Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter to connect my Macbook to a TV using normal video cable. When I connect the cable, my Laptop DIsplay gives a flickr once and then it shows nothing. I checked Display in the system preference where I don't get a secondary monitor option. My TV is panasonic and it's an old one. I work on Final Cut Pro and it's very very important to see my videos on a TV. What am I doing wrong with the connection? Anyone Please Please help...

Your probably not doing anything wrong. There are thousands of users with Similar issues and it seems to be with many different adapters.
We have Mini DP to VGA (3 different brands) and they all fail most of the time. This seems more prevalent with LCD Projectors. I've tested some (50+) with VGA Monitor (HP) and they all worked, LCD Projector (Epson, Hitachi, and Sanyo) and they all fail, DLP Projector (Sanyo) and one worked.
My Apple Mini DP to DVi works most of the time. My Mini DP to HDMI (Generic non Apple) works every time.
The general consensus is that Apple broke something in the OS around 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 and its not yet fixed. As we are a school we have logged a case with the EDU Support group so will see what happens.

Can someone please give me a step-by-step guide on how to embed a video in my Indesign document? I've got CS4 and I've tried to follow Adobe's instructions. Even Creative Suite 4 for Dummies. But I can't get it to work. And yes, I understand the video will only play when exported as a pdf -- not in the indesign document. Help! Donna

It's possible that Dictation is set up to be turned on with a different key. Open System Preferences > Dictation & Speech, and choose the key you want to use to activate Dictation next to "Shortcut". Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5449

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Go to Settings>Safari and Clear History, Data and Cookies.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
