Apple Podcast crashes iPod Classic

I've had a few problems with some video podcasts not working properly but I've normally put them down to third party software generating the podcast not being configured correctly and creating a corrupted video file. However my recent issue has brought new concern as to what is going on with my iPod classic.
The recent Apple Quick Tip of the Week - Tip 45: Searching the Dictionary, causes my iPod classic to reset. It's not just a occasional problem but happens everytime I run that file and exactly at the same spot each time.
iPod Classic configuration:
160GB version
Serial Number: 8M7379DXYMX
Model: MB150
Version: 1.1.1 Mac
Previously seen issues with cut outs and hangs with video podcasts from NAPP, e.g. Photoshop TV and PS Killer Tips. This is the first time a podcast has caused the iPod to completely reset though.

For reference: The video podcast I was having problems with now displays correctly after Apple posted the 1.1.2 update for the iPod Classic.
Perhaps that's why Apple posted the update!
You are probably correct when you suggest that "third party software generating the podcast not being configured correctly and creating a corrupted video file" has something to do with it. Maybe the people who create the Apple Quick Tip of the Week haven't checked to make sure what they do actually works.
I had a video (converted by iTunes for the iPod) that caused my iPod 160GB to crash, twice. Since that video was not that important to me, I removed it and it will not go back on regardless of software updates. These things happen. However, to someone like me who grew up with vinyl records, the iPod is fantastic!

  • Unable to sync video podcast to ipod classic

I have subscribed to a video podcast "Walk in the Word".  The very first one sync'd to my ipod.  Ever since, they download to my itunes library just fine, but they will not sync to my ipod classic 160gb. I have talked to tech support and have deleted the podcasts and redownloaded.  Refreshed the podcasts, deauthorized and reauthorized  and have up to date software.  Still won't sync.  I have gone into the podcast inquiry to "report a concern", perhaps there is an encoding issue with
the podcast producer.  Does anybody have any suggestions that may help?  Thank you

I think I may have found the problem. Apparently, ITunes cannot sync HD podcasts. Apple...why???

  • Syncing photos in iTunes with Apple TV and iPod Classic

    Hi:
I recently purchased an Apple TV and every since I got it when I sync my iPod Classic and the Apple TV with iTunes, iTunes optimizes all my photos again (3000+ photos). In other words, every time I sync, iTunes optimizes my photos, deletes them and re-adds them again to the iPod and the Apple TV. Any idea why it may be doing this? I mean it’s ok, it’s just time consuming every time I do a sync. This never happened before unless I will add new photos and in that case iTunes will optimize and add just the new ones not all of them.
Thanks for any advise you may have.
    Manolo.

Anyone has any idea? Would this be related to the new iTunes update?
    Thanks,
    Manolo.

  • Video Podcast on iPod Classic vs iPhone 4

Some video podcasts will not load onto my iPod classic but WILL on my iPhone 4. I'm using iTunes 10 on a macbook. i read on this forum about converting video podcasts to iPod format, and that it doesn't always work. I'm just trying to find out why there is a difference between the iPod and the iPhone.
    THANKS

    MORE INFO:
I have also noticed that of the 4 video podcasts I have tried to download on my iPod classic, the only one that was successful had a bit rate, total bit rate, and size in MB that was approx double of what the other three had. I also have, since my last post, tried to convert the podcasts to an " iPod version" from the ADVANCED drop down menu in the iTunes toolbar, but it made no difference.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Trying to add video podcasts to iPod Classic

I'm trying to add video podcasts to my iPod Classic 160GB. I can see them in the podcast summary page get added in the sync, but I can not find them on my iPod. I have 5 TV shows added to it and can find them under Videos but when I add the video podcasts they do not show up in the Podcasts section. Is there something I can do?

They should appear under Podcasts if they successfully synced over to the device. I assume you didn't see any error messages when you synced these video podcasts over to your device?
To be sure, reset sync warnings on the iPod by right->clicking on it under Devices in the left hand pane of iTunes and choosing Reset Warnings. Then resync the iPod.

  • Problems with TED video podcast in ipod classic 80gb

I have a lot of TED video podcast on my itunes on PC but i can't listen and view it on my ipod, i've red somewhere that video podcast with 46kbps are no longer supported by ipod classic? is that right?
    there are any solutions?
please help me, i'm really interested in it

    Yes, I'm still stuck too.
Some of my TED videos showed up in iTunes under "movies" when I migrated to a new computer; likely iTunes found the native files.  These movies play fine but re-subscribing to the TED video podcast and trying to play them under "podcasts" on my iPod Classic (120 gb), they still won't play (screen goes black for about 1 sec, then it skips to the next podcast...repeat until entire list is done).
I saw someone post about a "convert to iPod", but I can't find that option in iTunes (windows 8, iTunes 11)
    Thoughts?

  • Will apple repair my ipod classic 80g with video?

I got my ipod classic 80g in 2006.  I used it for a couple years and was very satisfied.  It was in a backpack that was tossed carelessly, and then stopped working.  The screen does not display anything except for some black lines.  The physical casing is not broken however.  When I plug it into a computer, I can hear the harddrive spinning, but itunes won't recognize it, and it won't show up as a device on my computer.  I have waited so long to inquire about a repair because I have replaced it a couple of times with other ipods.  I would really like to have this one repaired as I don't have an ipod curretently. And, instead of buying a new ipod classic, I would like to have this one repaired.  I read that it would cost $129 to repair this ipod.
I would like to know however, if I spend $129 will apple repair my ipod for sure?  If it is deemed unrepairable, will I get a replacement?  Or will they refund my money?
Thanks for reading and giving your time.
    -Madison Albert

Apple doesn't actually repair iPod, but does an out of warranty exchange of it for a refurbished model of the same generation and capacity.
And it will cost $129 according to this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&viewlocale=en_US&geo=United_St ates&product=ipod&select=REPAIR_PRICING

  • Why is apple taking the iPod classic off the shelves

Why are they taking the iPod classic off the shelves.

Usually when a product line is discontinued it is due to low-volume of sales.  Not enough demand to justify the investment in manufacturing.

  • Playing podcast crashes iPod

I'm having a strange problem. When I try to play a podcast from one particular series on my iPod, it crashes. The Apple logo comes up and the iPod restarts. This happens every single time I attempt to play any podcast from this series. However, these podcasts play just fine on my Mac in iTunes. Also, other podcasts will play perfectly on my iPod. Even more strange, the podcasts in question that don't work now USED to work just fine. I seem to remember the problem happening after the QT update or perhaps an iPod update - I'm not sure.
Does anyone have a clue why this might be happening, and what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks.

The 1.2 firmware added gapless playback, backlight dimmer, improved battery life, and the ability to play movies to your iPod. But if you want to revert back to an earlier firmware, I suppose you could just got to apple.com/support and then click the download section and download an earlier firmware. I suggest not doing this because you will loose all the features i stated above, and iTunes 7.X requires firmware 1.2 on the iPod 5g.
As for now just turn off the EQ it will allow to play podcasts and it will make your batter last longer.
    Hope I could help.

  • Some Podcasts crash iPod

Local iPod store replaced my iPod last week with a new unit. I have been adding back my podcasts, but only half work correctly. When I select one that doesn't work, it causes the iPod to reset. I have Unsubscribed, deleted and re-subscribed, but it doesn't help. ??

Can I ask if anyone has had similar issues at the end of a podcast? I've done the 0:01 trick which makes them play but the iPod still dies at random places at the last 0:60 of the podcast.
An interesting tidbit is this doen't occur on a standard Stereo 192bps MP3. I did rip something conforming to the podcast standards (64bps) MP3 Mono.
I've been able to reproduce with 100% accuracy the 64bps Mono MP3 breaking the iPod. Note these were converted from a working MP3. My final test was to upsample a 64bps mono to another rate (in my test case 32/64bps AAC) Both the beginning and end crashes stop. I'd say this proves to a degree there is an issue with 64bps mono MP3. I've not tested further. The only problem here is a converted Podcast shows in ones smart playlists and no longer under podcast.

  • Can apple refurbish an ipod classic

I have an old iPod that for some reason isn't syncing with any computers. I took it to the carlsbad apple store and they said that there must be something wrong with the hard-drive and that the only thing he could come up with as a solution is get an upgrade. I want to try to avoid that if possible 'cause i have deep sentimental feelings for my iPod and dont want to get rid of it. So I was wondering if it's possible for apple to refurbish my dear iPod to get it to start working again.

    DA,
Limnos is right if Apple dont want to do it, you can google for "iPod Repairs Hardisk" and select the one near your area. You should also consider upgrade to SSD, they will last much longer than the Hardisk, although might cost double, but it is more reliable, sync faster, uses less power hence battery last much longer, and if you happen to drop the iPod, there is no HD to crash.
    Also have your battery replaced.

  • Does apple still sell iPod classic ?

I would love to buy one but i can't find them on the website...

I heard that this was the case, but I just bought one literally just over a week ago, for $120 on eBay. There were many similarly priced ones.

  • IPod Classic calendar display bug

I just bought an iPod Classic (Version 2.0.5).  When viewing calendar events (synced from my iMac's Calendar) on the iPod Classic, any text longer than the width of the iPod screen does not wrap to the next line, and instead just disappears off the side of the screen.
What's up with that?  My old iPod Photo didn't have this problem.  Wrapping text to the screen width seems like should be a very basic issue to have done right.  Here's an example of what it's doing:
The Calendar event on the iMac (10.8.5):
How the same event appears on the iPod Classic:
Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is this an embarassing Apple bug?

iPod Classic alarm has never worker reliably!
"Geniuses" & phone support are clueless and disempowered to do anything about it. Apple doesn't seem to read these posts.
You must restore your iPod to version 1.1.1 then reset your iPod and leave it alone for the alarm to go off. Problem is, resetting will loose any changes you recently made to the alarm. Seems alarm will not play a song if you are on pause. Alarm is not triggering a high level interrupt and playing no matter what is going on. Maybe apple programmer think this is a "feature" that alarm won't play a song if another song is cued.
Please post feedback and tell programmers that alarm still doesn't work in v1.1.1 and we want it to fire off the player list no matter what is going on.
