Apple Portable Power Adapter 65W

My adapter sparks when I plug it into the wall(in the US) to charge my computer battery. when I travel internationally, the sparking is more pronounced and the adapter gets very hot.

Hi, lsrp, and welcome to apple Discussions. You may want to read through the article linked below to familiarize yourself with the kinds of issues a faulty adapter may raise, in case yours proves to be on the way out. The note near the end about sparking will be of the greatest immediate interest, but I recommend reading the whole article.

  • TS1713 I need to purchase a new Portable Power Adapter which has a barrel type connection.  The one I have is not working.

I need to purchase a new portable power adapter which has a barrel connector. Can not locate a new power adapter on the web site. Went through the troubleshooting, it is definitely not charging. Any one have info on this?

You can buy from Apple. Or other vendors, such as Amazon.
Check the wattage - it is printed on the side of the charger. Do not buy a lower wattage.
Here's one. Note this is not an endorsement, only an example.

  • Apple's power adapter replacement program - U.S. only

    Hello,
    I have a macbook air.
Its power adapter has a L-shape, but I have the same problem because of strain relief.
I found that Apple's power adapter replacement program page on web, About Apple's Power Adapter Replacement Program -- U.S. only.
I think that the T-shape photo on web is just an example showing what strain relief.
When I visit the apple retail store and ask the program, they answered me that program is only available for T-shape power adapter.
is it correct? do I need to buy additional power adapter for my air?
    Thank you,

    Yes, that is correct.

  • Apple FireWire Power Adapter and iPod Classic

I just looked through the user guide, and it doesn't mention anything positive or negative about using the Apple FireWire Power Adapter that came with my 3G iPod. Any chance I'm going to fry my new iPod if I try charging it with the Firewire Power Adapter?
    Thanks,
    Steve

No, you will not fry your new iPod.

  • Can Shuffle play while charging on Apple USB Power Adapter?

    Hi,
We would like to purchase a shuffle (2nd gen) to play continuously music on hold to our company's telephone system. The Phone system's audio-in jack is compatible. I've connected my 1st Gen iPod shuffle to the phone system, and it plays fine.
We will not be able to plug the shuffle into a computer, so we will need to plug it into the Apple USB Power Adapter.
Is anyone doing this? Does it work? Any problems?
    Thanks,
    David

  • Can I charge an iPod Classic 3G with the Apple USB power adapter?

I have just buy an iPod Classic 3G with 15  GB (SN JQ4239GQQQF) from ebay.
I have read that it's posible to sync it with my PC with Windows 7, but, It is not possible
    to charge it by usb.
I could charge it with the Apple USB power adapter?
    Thanks

With that particular model, only the Firewire cable and connection will provide power to the device.  The USB cable is only for syncing.
Using the iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable
Here is the cable you'll need.

And the wall adapter as well.

  • Old Apple USB Power Adapter with new nano

Hi. I have an older Apple USB Power Adapter (model A1102) that I've been using with an Ipod Mini (bought it with the mini a long time ago). I have a new 3G nano on order. Will this power adapter work with the new nano? Or will I be forced to buy a new one?
Output from the adapter is 5V - 1.0A
    Thanks

Since I also converted from a Mini to a 3G Nano, I thought I'd give you a couple of pointers; I probably spent a couple of days preparing my existing mp3 library (and that says nothing about videos).
    1) Make sure all of your mp3's are NOT marked read-only and load everything you want into the NEW iTunes
    2) Work on collecting/saving the NEW things like album covert art and lyrics (I sometimes use the lyrics area to list musicians/personnel)
    3) Re-construct your playlists and SAVE everything (iTunes actually writes back to the mp3 files--that's why you don't want them read-only)
    4) Only then start messing with videos, because they tend to crash iTunes depending on your hardware, OS, etc. (for example, iTunes doesn't work well with Vista). My best advice for videos is use a 3rd party converter (like Nero Recode) to ensure iPod format compatibility; don't even waste your time with iTunes for anything that isn't a downloaded/purchased item.

  • 60W portable power adapter

i have a macbook. can't remember when i bought it. i'm thinking at least 5 years ago. i have the original 60W portable power adapter that it came with.
recently, i've noticed that the adapter gets really hot. sometimes i have the adapter plugged into the wall, but not always with the computer.
my 9 year old tells me this is not a problem. she says it's because i leave it plugged into the outlet and should remove it. but i also notice that it has been getting hot while hooked into the computer.
    i'm assuming i need a new one.
if so, am i supposed to order the 60W MagSafe power adapter? the portion that plugs into the magnet on the computer looks a little different than my original.

You can find out when your MB was manufactured along with a slew of other information. Just jot down your serial number and visit this site: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php

  • Old Apple USB Power Adapter with New Shuffle

I just purchased a shuffle (2nd gen) and was wondering if I can use the Apple USB Power adapter that I use for my ipod (5th gen - the adapter is about two years old) to charge it, or can I only use my computer? The Apple store shows that it's compatible with the newer adapters, so I'm assuming I should be fine, but wanted to make sure.
Also, is there anyway to check on the computer, once the shuffle is docked, how full the charge is or isn't?
    Thanks!!

    It should work... try it!

The only indication is the status LED, it's either orange for charging or
    green for "charged"...

  • DOES MAG SAFE POWER ADAPTER WORK THE SAME AS A PORTABLE POWER ADAPTER??

My power adapter broke, so I just purchased a Mag Safe power adapter. My computer works when it is plugged in, but it says that there are no batteries available, and it is not charging.
Is there a difference between the two, and what could be the problem?

What exactly do you mean? There is only one AC adapter for the MacBook and it is a Mag Safe adapter, what are you refering to when you say portable adapter?

  • Apple TV Power adapter

For those who already own an Apple TV I wanted to know if the voltage for the power adapter says 110V-240V on it like it does for the computers. Thanks

    yes it is universal.
all you need to do is change the power cable to suit where you are.
    it's a standard "figure 8" cable.

  • Will USA Apple Firewire power adapter cope with 240 volts?

Hi, just bought an Apple OEM firewire power adapter, see here
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330275832822&ssPageName=ADME: B:EOIBSA:US:1123
Anyone know if this will this work without a voltage convertor in UK & Europe?
    It's for an iPod mini.
I know one can charge by connecting to computer but it's more convenient to plug into the wall.
    Thanks for any help.

Oh yes, thankyou for clarifying my mind on that.
I also bought a syncing firewire cable from the same place while I was at it so she should just need one cable then to do both charging & syncing as long as the firewire works abroad.
I'll inspect it when it comes & if in doubt we could leave the firewire power adaptor here for when she's in US & get a USB power adapter in UK for there & Europe.
Or I could sell the firewire power adapter to keep things simple.
    Thanks a lot Chris.
In case anyone has any experience using the firewire power adapter abroad I'd be interested.
    Thanks.

I've just bought IP4S 3 weeks ago and the Usb power adapter isn't working now. My friends said Apple wasn't warranty this! Is that true? If yes, I'm so disappointed!

  • PORTABLE POWER ADAPTER TIP REPLACEMENT

Does anyone know a resource that can fix or replace just the tip on the Apple power adapter?
Because of my dog knocking the plug I am now the proud owner of three of these of which only one tip works.
It seems an awful waste to trash the whole adapter because of the plug.
    Thanks!

    Elizabeth,
There is no way to just replace the tip. The DC output cable is provided by a vendro as one-piece. Replacing it requires the power adapter to be split open, and disassembled. Not an easy task. Buy a cat.
