Apple Printer Utility for Mac OSX?

I have a wonderful Apple LaserWriter 12/640PS printer that works and works and works. But in order to get a lot of information and to print a start-up page with the number of total sheets printed, I need to use APPLE PRINTER UTILITY 2.2 in CLASSIC (OS 9.2.2)--
Does anyone know if there is a way to get the utility functions of APPLE PRINTER UTILITY 2.2 in Mac OS X-- I'm currently running 10.3.9 on my PBG4 and Tiger 10.4.3 on my G4-733. Thanks!

Hi Stephen,
I don't have a 16/640 but have read help docs on Apple Support. You should be able to access the printer via the telnet command in the OS X Terminal (maybe not the elegant answer you wanted!). There will be help by typing ? or help (I'm guessing).
telnet {IP address of printer}

I have a problem with HP printer Utility. When a standard user adds a new paper profile HP Printer Utility asks to type an administrator's name and password to allow HP printer Utility to make changes. Is it possible to avoid this? Otherwise I have to give admin rights to every user because they have to be able to add new papers. HP printer Utility sharing and permisssions are set to read and write to everyone.

  • HP Laserjet 4 printer driver for mac osx 10.8.5

Anybody know of a mac osx 10.8.5 printer driver for a HP Laserjet 4?

Yeah, looked at this list earlier - they've got v. 19.8 for a Laserjet 4 Plus but mine is a plain Laserjet 4 so I doubt it would work. I used a Gutenprint driver v. 5.2.3 with Leopard that worked OK. Mountain Lion doesn't seem to like it as much...

  • HP Printer Utility for Mac

Recently I downloaded printer drivers/software for Mac Maverick OS for my ENVY 120 and Officejet 4630 printers.  On both of the installs of the software, it said after closing the install window, another wndow would open automatically to finish the intallation of the HP Printer Utility.  Neither did this, even after multiple reinstall attempts.  I can see the HP Printer Utility in my Applications file,  however, when I try to open it, it says it is defective or incomplete. I like the funtionality of the HP Printer Utility and it is referenced a lot in trouble shooting documentation. What to do? Thanks, Dave

Hi MacBookDave, Thank you for the reply and the additional information! It's strange that you don't have the HP Uninstaller, but that is okay, we will just have to take a slightly different approach. I may ask you to repeat some a step or two that you've already done, but it's because of the other steps we're doing. I promise every step has a purpose  First, I'd like you to drag and drop the Hewlett Packard folder from your Applications into the Trash Can. Once that is done I'd like you to follow steps 1-15 in this post from to get the operating system driver for HP removed as well. Then I'd suggest that you download and run the software for just the Officejet 4630 from this link here. Once that is done you should have an HP Uninstaller in your Hewlett Packard folder. When you run it, please hold down the Control, Option and Command keys (the three to the left of your space bar) on your keyboard while clicking the Continue option then let go and proceed as normal. This turns the Uninstaller into a Scrubber. Once that is done, please do a verify/repair of your disk permissions again to make sure everything is where it needs to be before installing the Officejet 4630 from the download again. Make sure everything installed properly with it before trying the Envy 120. Let me know how this goes!

  • How can I download a driver for a Brother printer HL2270DW for Mac OSX 10.9.1?

I recently purchased a Brother printer HL2270DW and am running Mac OSX 10.9.1.  The brother website has a download available, but in the process of adding the printer I get the error message that "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."  Any ideas?

Just found a solution which involves resetting the printer settings:
    To Reset the Printer Setting:
    1) Open "System Preferences"
    2) Select the "Print & Scan" pane
    3) Right click (or control click) anywhere in the "Printers" window (in the white space below any of your existing printers)
    4) Select "Reset Printing System..."
That will reset the printing settings, and should happen immediately. You'll know if it worked because any existing printers you had previously set up will disappear from your printers list. Once the system has been reset, click on the "Add printer" button and add the printer that you're trying to add.
As any other printers you had previously added are deleted you'll have to add them again.
    Hope that helps

  • How can I download a driver for a Brother printer DCP-J411ODW for Mac OSX 10.9.1?

How can I download a driver for a Brother printer DCP-J411ODW for Mac OSX 10.9.1? I go to the right place on the Brother website and instead of downloading a driver it says there is a problem. Also something I did download and stuff on the CD provided with the printer is for a PC not a MAc. Help please.

OK, connecting a Wi-Fi printer is a 2 step process.
    Connect printer to your network
Have computer to "see" printer on the network.
Follow Apple's steps for connecting a Wi-Fi printer in Printing in OS X. Read the article in it's entirety before installing.

  • Non Classic replacement for Apple Printer Utility?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro which wont run Classic and some clients with Apple printers (LaserWriter II, LaserWriter 8500, etc.).
Previously with my PowerBook I could use the Apple Printer Utility (OS 9.x application) to configure these printers (change IP addresses, etc.). Now because the MacBook Pro wont run this app I have to carry the PowerBook around to do it.
Does anyone now of a PowerPC (or even better yet Universal Binary) utility that will do the same thing?

  • LR5 version 5.3 abends when selecting media type in the print module; on Mac OSX 10.9.1. Why?

LR5 version 5.3 abends when selecting media type in the print module; on Mac OSX 10.9.1. Why? The printer is an Epson 4900.

I contacted Epson and the following steps resolved the problem.
Please close all of your programs to Repair Permissions:
    1. Go to your Mac Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities and open the Disk Utility.
    2. Click on and highlight your main Mac Hard Drive in the list on the left.
    3. Select Repair Disk Permissions and once this is finished, restart your computer.
Once restarted, please do the following:
    1. Open your System Preferences
    2. Open Print & Fax (10.7/10.8/10.9 is Print & Scan)
    3. Highlight your Epson printer in the Printer List on the left hand side of the window if it is showing in the list. If it is not  showing up, continue to step 5
    4. Click on the MINUS sign below the Printer List and confirm deletion of the printer
    5. Click on the PLUS below the Printer List to re-add the printer
    6. Click on and Highlight the Epson Printer in the window and confirm that in the USE field it reads for "EPSON XXXXXX"
    7. If it does, click ADD and the printer should show up again in the Printer List and you can try to print again
If you are still having issue, try printing from Apples Preview and see if it print fine. If so, the issue would be PS and/or LR and you would need to troubleshoot the program installation.
We take your satisfaction seriously and hope that we have helped resolve your issue. If you receive a survey from us, we would greatly appreciate if you could take a few minutes to provide us with feedback about your support experience. Your ratings and comments are extremely important to us.
If this did not resolve your issue, please reply to this email for further assistance. If you have a different support issue, submit a request via our U.S. or Canada Support Site and we will respond in a timely manner.
Thank you again for contacting Epson.

  • Vmware Fusion Beta for Mac OSX Released Today

I don't know if this is the correct forum; if it's not, please pardon me.
VMware Fusion Beta for Mac OSX has been released today. This product, while the developers admit has some bugs in it, promises to make virtual computing a whole lot easier and would eliminate for many (not all) the need to use Boot Camp. The link for this new program is http://www.vmware.com/products/beta/fusion/
On that page you can find links for support and forums as well.
If you need a free virtual appliance to use with Fusion, then use this link http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/
Currently, there is no charge for using the BETA program. The VMWare folks are asking people to give feedback on their use of the product.
This is what we've been waiting for to purchase our new MAC. I can say without a doubt that from my own experience with Linux boxes, VMWare is the best virtual solution on the market. It's easy to configure and supports a wide variety of hardware and OSs. I can even move the virtual machines I created under Linux to my new MAC when I receive it.
The time has finally dawned for me to retire the last remaining pc towerbox in my home. My wife and I recently expunged one of those machines earlier this week and are eagerly looking forward to getting rid of the other one.
We am really looking forward to purchasing the new Mac Pro. What makes it especially appealing for us is it's scalability and the fact that we can use our current hardware, including our Kensington Track Ball mouse and current monitor with it, although we are taking a serious look at a new Apple Display as well.
Many thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this post. I am looking forward to joining and my wife is looking forward to rejoining the MAC community.

  • The Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update 10 removed the Java plugin from Firefox 5.0. How do I re-install it?

I've just installed Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update 10 and can no longer run Java Applets from Firefox 5.0

    Dear Craig,
Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB RAM
I'm sure that this is 64-bit
    CF 8.0.1 Enterprise Build 3080
I had moved the Java SE 6 to the top in both Plugin and Applications. The
correct version is showing in the terminal window. See below.
Last login: Thu Jun 18 11:27:09 on ttys001
    Beta-4:~ Colin$ java -version
    java version "1.6.0_13"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_13-b03-211)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.3-b02-83, mixed mode)
    Beta-4:~ Colin$
CF will not start. I have the activity monitor open, and when I start CF you
see it in the activity monitor for a few seconds as it starts up. When the
message process is completed in the terminal window CF disappears in the
    activity monitor.
    Any suggestions?
    C
    Hi, Colin,
My apologies but I forgot to ask 2 questions: (1) What kind of Mac you have
(Intel or PowerPC)? (2) What version of CF are you running and what installer
    did you choose (8 or 8.0.1, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.)?
    To start, try the following:
    1. Normally you'd shut CF down first ... but that's not necessary for you
    2. Open Java Preferences again
    3. Select Java SE 6 and move it (drag) to the top spot in both section (Applet
    Plugin and Applications)
    4. Open Terminal
    5. Type java -version (you should see 1.6.0_13 as the new version)
    6. Try to start CF again
This may not work (I've had issues with it) but it's technically how it's
supposed to work. With the Java Preferences utility, you're visually setting a
default JVM (you can do it with commands in Terminal but this is much faster
    and easier).
If CF still won't start, look for the jvm.config file in your CF application
    folder (try /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin or
    /Applications/ColdFusion8/runtime/bin -- the latter is where a jvm.config file
is on my machine for a particular version of CF that's installed similar to
yours). You can override the JVM in this file but, hopefully, that won't be
    necessary!
    Best,
    Craig

What is the latest update available for Mac OSX 10.5.8 that will allow me to get the latest update for iTunes.  I really need to update my iPhone and CAN'T!!  GRRRR!!!

Minimally you need Snow Leopard or greater:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • Where can I get current info on SysAdmin Certification(s) for Mac OSX SL and Lion?

Where can I get current info on SysAdmin Certification(s) for Mac OSX SL and Lion? The Apple website for this is "under construction" for weeks now...
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

Certification test for OS X 10.7 Lion are not available yet. I assume they will be nearly identical to the test of 10.5 and 10.6. Hopefully, the reason the certification website has been down for a while is that they are updating it with the new information. Though I really wouldn't expect any 10.7 certification test to be available for 2-4 months. Peachpit Press didn't publish their training material for 10.6 until October even though 10.6 was released in August.
As far as the 10.6 Certifications:
Certified Support Professional, 10.6 requires the 9L0-403 exam.
Certified Technical Coordinator, 10.6 requires the 9L0-403 as well as the 9L0-510 (Server Essentials) exams.
The information for the Certified System Administrator, 10.6 is "hidden" on the integral7 website but according to this Wikipedia entry, you need to pass the 9L0-510 Server Essentials exam as well as these three:
    Directory Services
    Deployment
    Security and Mobility
