Apple Pro Mouse with MacBook?

I'll soon have a black MacBook and I'm looking to buy a mouse. The black Apple Pro mouse would look really good with it, but I realize that it's an old model. Would this still work well on the new MacBook? I looked into the Mighty Mouse, but there are problems with the scroll ball lifespan so I would rather get one without it. Were there any lifespan issues with the Apple Pro mice?

The mouse cord length issue with MacBook -- at least the one I just got -- is that the USB ports are on the left side! I can barely use my old mouse with it, and I'll be looking for either a mouse with a longer cord or some sort of cord extension soon.
Of course that would be no problem at all for lefties.

  • Question about Black Apple Pro Mouse...

    Hi guys,
Just picked up a Black Apple Pro Mouse (I know it's old but I've not found a Black Mighty mouse to go with my black MacBook).
On the bottom is a dial with a minus, zero and plus settings. I've searched Apple's hardware database and can't find anything to tell me what it does. I've had a play with it and it doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference to pointer speed or light intensity, so thought I'd ask you lot...
Anyone know what it is or what it does?
    Thanks for reading...

When the next person comes here looking for the answer, they will be unhappy that you did not post that the dial adjusts the click sensitivity.

  • Can the Apple Pro Mouse Be Opened For Cleaning?

I tried searching the forum with no luck before posting here. I'd like to clean the inside of the Apple Pro Mouse that came with my G4. Anyone know how to open it safely (so it can be re-closed again)?
    Thanks!

Not read one success story on opening it, the only apparently safe method of cleaning is to massage it upside down!

  • Question about Wireless Apple Pro Mouse

I am just encountering a problem with my wireless apple pro mouse. I have had this wireless mouse with my iMac G5 for 2-3 years. It was doing fine up until yesterday when I began having this problem where I would go to the bluetooth menu from the menu bar and hit "set up new bluetooth device". I would slide the cover off the LED and it would connect. At the last step of the pairing process, it would say "connection established" on the computer, then on my mouse the LED would blink one more fast blink and then die. On my computer, it said "connection lost". Is there any realy problem here? Should I just call it quits for that wireless mouse, and go and get a new one? Help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

If you happen to have an AppleCare extended warranty on your iMac, your mouse is also covered by that warranty.
I don't recall ever reading about a wireless mouse expiring at an early age, but you'd probably have the best idea whether or not you've gotten your money's worth out of it. I suppose you checked to see that you installed the firmware update?

  • Apple Pro speakers with mini jack connect to new Intel iMac ?

I would like to be able to connect the pair of perspex globe Apple Pro Speakers with mini-jack that came with my PowerPC G4 Mac to my new Lion desktop Intel iMac.
However, the mini-jack is too small for either the ' audio in / optical digital audio in port ' or the ' headphone out / optical digital audio out port ' (I'm not sure which is the correct one to use !)
Is it possible with an adaptor, or by some other means, to connect them ?
If it is unfortunately not possible, any cheap alternative speakers recommended would be appreciated.

There are no adapters that are readily available to use the old Apple Pro speakers with other computers or newer Macs.
The only adapter that worked but has long been discontinued in the Griffin Technologies iFire.
These are even harder to find now and if you do, indeed find one, you're going to pay an outrageous amount of money just for an adapter that used to sell for $40!!
For the cost of this adapter, you could just buy new speakers.
The big problem with the old Apple Pro speakers is that Apple went out of its way to make sure you couldn't use these speakers with anything else but certain G4 Mac models. The connector and subsequent wiring make these speakers very proprietary and limited use without spending gobs of time altering some of the components and purchasing external computer audio amps and connectors.
Apple simply made these unusable on anything but their own hardware at that time.
It's simply not worth the effort.
Look in the Apple Store online. There are a lot of decent priced, good-looking speakers to use with your iMac.
    Good hunting!

What driver do I download to operate HP LaserJet Pro P1102 with MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.1 (no disc)?

If you need a driver you should be prompted to download it.

  • Using an Apple Bluetooth mouse with a pc

Is it possible to use the Apple Bluetooth mouse with a pc and windows XP using WIDCOMM. I've tried to connect mine and although the pc sees the mouse, it tries to pair using a security code. This is despite the fact that it later says a security code is not required! Anyone got any experience of this?

Problem solved. Security code 0000 entered, mouse paired with pc and everything worked beautifully.

  • Pre-Mighty Mouse - Apple Pro Mouse still available?

I was looking through the UK Apple Store (online) for a Pro Mouse, but all I can find are the Might Mouse and the Wireless Mouse. Is the Pro not made any more?

Yes, apple has discontinued the apple pro mouse. I wanted one too for my iMac; but I couldn't find one that was worth the cost on eBay. I broke down and purchased the Apple Mighty mouse. I love it! It's a very good product, Only Slightly over priced. But you can use multiple buttons. and you can even scroll 360 degrees. I am glad I purchased it. They are $50 dollars in the US. I'm not sure about the UK though. You must have OS 10.3.9 or later I believe though. Hope this helps. -Trevor129

I suggest that you request this feature, as I have, at Apple's feature request site. Maybe if enough of us request this it will come in a future iOS release.

  • Using external mouse with Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I'm using an external Dell USB keyboard and mouse with my Macbook Pro. They work ok, but there seems to be a bit of 'drag' when I use the mouse. It's difficult to describe, but when I move the mouse slowly the pointer seems to drag, or slip...it's not matching the movement I'm making with the actual mouse. It's not so bad when I make bigger or faster movements, just when I'm using it slowly or precisely.
It's very distracting, and is even making my wrists ache.
Any idea how I can stop this happening - do I need to find a driver to fix the issue?
    Thanks for reading.

Are you using an external monitor? The 24" LED Cinema Display?
I saw a post in one of the other forums where several people were having this issue -- they all had external monitors attached, and mostly all 24" LED Apple Displays. The type and make of the mouse seemed to have no relevance, and the issues seem to impact the trackpad as well. It is hard to describe the "feel" and "lagging" effect of this problem.
Nearly all people in the post had the monitor and laptop power adapter plugged into the same outlet/powerstrip. After moving one of the cords to a different outlet, this seemed to solve the problem for nearly everyone. Odd, I know.
I'm gonna try it and I'll keep you posted.

using windows at work led me to become dependent on right-clicking
can i do this on my Mac? I use a mighty mouse with my laptop.

    Hi Pubikars,
To have right-click functionality enabled in Mac OS X, open “System Preferences”.
Select “Keyboard and Mouse”, then select “Mouse”.
Set the right side button to “Secondary Button”.
    I hope that this helps.

  • 10.4.9 UPDATE - FREEZING APPLE PRO MOUSE

    HELLO
I PowerMac G5 7,3 and use Tiger I have updated the software to 10.4.9 but since doing so my pro Mouse has been freezing even with the red lazer light on. It's plugged in my screen so no lack of power. I have even tried another mouse still same problem. I have removed my pref and have a new set. I have tried different surfaces for the mouse but still the problem.
Please help - it was all fine until I updated?

Is this a black, pro mouse? And is the other mouse you tried also black? If so the update may have revealed a hardware problem with your mouse. Apple no longer makes or sells the pro mouse. They only make the mighty mouse. 10.4.9 update does include a "mouse scrolling" update. This update may be optimized for the mighty mouse. You may be able to load the old mouse driver back in or install a 3rd party driver with your pro mouse here http://plentycom.jp/en/steermouse/download.html (I have never tried this).
For information on failing pro mice see here: http://www.sewardweb.com/applepromouse/
You may just want to buy a new mouse. The Kensington PocketMouse is rated high (but it's small) for only $14.95 at the Apple Store.

  • Apple Pro Keyboard with Mac OS 9?

I recently was given an Apple Pro keyboard model A1048. I've found that the specs state it will only work with X 10.2 or later.
Well I plugged it into my Mac OS 9.2.2 system just to see what would happen. Mostly the keyboard worked fine. But there are a few keys that don't work:
    F16
    Vol up
    Vol down
    Disk eject
and a couple of others in the group of keys on the upper right of the keyboard.
Is there any hope of finding software that will make the keyboard fully operational with 9.2.2?

    Hi Gary;
That is one of the major restrictions with remaining on a outdated version of an operating system so much of the newer equipment just will not work because no one is supporting it any longer. So unless you have an absolute requirement to remain on OS 9 which is no longer supported, I would suggest that you look into migrating over to something a bit newer.
Sorry for jumping in here. But I just have to mention that I've been using OS9 since it first came, and I'm not getting rid of it. It's customised to pitch-perfection for my personal use, e.g. a lot of the extensions have been chucked out.
It's stable like a rock (and has been for several years) and its responsiveness is INSTANT -- the OS as well as the programs I use. Menues and dialogue boxes appear instantly. Text appears as I type. Most documents in most programs scroll in perfect synchrony with my finger movements on the mouse, irrespective of document size or the presence/absence of images and and tables (Photoshop is a bit slow with large files). The cursor ends up where I move the mouse, and not half-a-centimeter on the side, under, or wherever.
I have NONE of that as regular features in Tiger. Some programs work fine, others don't. The OS itself is noticeably more sluggish than OS9. I suggest you try the two systems side by side some day. You'll be surprised at OS9's superiority in terms of responsiveness. Sometime in the future, I hope to be able to tweak Tiger to OS9 standards. Fingers crossed.
Still, Tiger is beautiful, useful, more up-to-date, and no doiubt technically more well-adjusted to modern times, and thus it's also my main OS. However, that's mostly because new versions of programs require it, my printer does't have OS9 drivers, and more and more web pages require OSX browser. (Although the web works fine in OS9, at least for the most part, e.g. youtube, but secure banking doesn't.)
Personally, I'm a bit offended (perhaps a too strong word) when I ses suggestions (however well-intended) to migrate away from OS9, as if OS9 users don't know what they're doing. I boot regularly into OS9, almost daily, full well knowing what I do, and doing so because it offers me advantages that Tiger can't give to me.
The versions of MS Word (5.1), Photoshop (4/5), FileMaker (5), etc., that I use in OS9 have all the bells and whistles I need. I use them for professional purposes. They work smoother and quicker than any of the more recent versions, even though there are functions that are obviously technically more pleasing in later versions.
The only thing that's become a real problem is Unicode, which my OS9 programs don't support. Hence I have to do a bit of editing in Tiger versions of, say, Word, before I can disseminate a word file to others. But I don't mind. The time I save by having a smooth work flow in OS9 is worth it.
    Sorry for the rant.

  • Using Apple Magic Mouse With Windows 7 64 bit and Parallels Desktop 8 questions

I will be getting an iMac in the coming months and installing Parallels Desktop 8 and Windows 7 64 bit.
I was wondering if I would have the functions of been able to left click, right click, scroll (preferably vertically but also occasionally horizontally) with the Apple Magic Mouse when I'm running Windows 7 through Parallels Desktop 8?
I just wondered if anyone has installed Parallels Desktop 8 and Windows 7 and have you been able to do what i mentioned above and also have you come across any other issues, problems whilst using the Apple Magic Mouse on the Windows side?
If there is any problems/issues with doing the above, is there anything I will need to do to get the above functionality to work?
    Thanks in advance.

    The same with the trackpad!
Sometimes scrolling is a bit too fast, becuase Win 7 isn't made to use with the Magicmouse or trackpad.
The only thing i miss / doesn't work ist the middle mouse button!
Thanks very much for the help stz-42 its much appreciated.
Providing I can left click, right click, scroll, then that's OK for me as I will be spending the vast amount of my time on the Mac side.
Are you able to scroll both horizontally and vertically when using Parallels 8 Win 7 64 bit on your iMac?
