Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X

I need some help.  I purchased a copy of this boot to try out Final Cut Pro X.  I downloaded the lesson files from Peachpit and copied the "APTS FCP X.sparseimage" file to my desktop, double clicked on it and a virtual disk opened up with all the lesson files inside.  When I launched FCP and tried to follow the section in the book "Connecting Media Files to Project files" it all started to go wrong.
On step 1 the book says "In the Project Library, select the project containing the offline clips".  In the Project Library in FCP all I have is a disk icon containing folders labelled "Lesson 1, Lesson 2 etc"  This is now stopping me from doing any of the follwing steps in the book.
I have gone back to Peachpit and they are going to forward my issue to the Author/Publisher but I only have a small amount of time to return the book if I can't get this working.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Use Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion to trash your preferences with the application closed.
Repair permissions in the Disk Utility and reboot.
Remount the disk image and post a screen shot of the disk image contents.
Then launch the application. It should look like this

  • Apple Audio Filters in Final Cut Pro

I'm posting this question here because I didn't receive any responses in the Final Cut Pro message area, and I thought given the nature of the questions, audiofiles that read this area might have an answer.
In Final Cut Pro there are two folders of audio filters, one called APPLE and the other FINAL CUT PRO.
I fully realize none of these filters have the power of programs like SOUNDTRACK PRO.
However, I'm in a situation where I need to document what the filters do. I've already found all the material I need for the FINAL CUT PRO filters. However, I can't find any information anywhere on the APPLE category of filters.
    My questions:
#1 - Does anybody know why the APPLE audio filters are seperated out from the Final Cut Pro filters? How are they different generally?
#2 - Does anybody know where I can find documentation on what each of the APPLE category of audio filters do? I can't find it in the Final Cut Pro Manuals or Diane Weyland books. I found some Ken Stone tutorials on line, but they don't address the APPLE filters.
#3 - And many of the APPLE audio filters seem to be near duplicates in the Final Cut Pro audio filters, so what's the point in having two versions?
Any info at all or a direction to look would be appreciated.
    Thanks so much.

As of Leopard I was surprised to find that the Apple system plug-ins, and those that are supplied with the FCP suite are not AU plug-ins in the old sense of what a plug-in used to be. They no longer exist as a file anywhere in the system as they used to. Audio Unit plug ins formerly used to exist in Library/Audio/Plug ins/Components - now they are build into the Leopard operating system.
Any third party plug-in you purchase will still be installed in the "old" way.
Sorry, I can't remember where that documentation exists. Probably in the developer docs somewhere.

You can search the entire internet by putting that error message into google, see what other discussions appear.
With only the little information you've provided, I'd trash Compressor and download it again from the App Store.
You could share the timeline out to MPEG2 and then import that into iDVD, if you have it, or Toast.
Given an hour or three, someone with better suggestions will soon chime in.

  • Can anyone recommend personal or class training, for Final Cut Pro in NYC?

Can anyone recommend personal or class training, for Final Cut Pro in NYC?

Try starting with the free online tutorials like Izzy, http://www.izzyvideo.com/final-cut-pro-x-tutorial/, or Final Cut Pro X TV, http://fcpx.tv/. I got started on theose a few months ago.

  • I presently use the Pinnacle Studio program, and am considering purchasing an Apple computer, and using Final Cut Pro X, although all of the previews I have seen appear to be difficult. Is their anyone who has used both?

I have been using Pinnacle Studio, and am considering purchasing an Apple computer, and Final Cut Pro X. I have looked at several tutorials, and am concerned that the program may be over my head, as it appears to be difficult. I wonder if there is anyone out there who has experience with both programs, and can advise me.

Ah yes, I remember Pinnacle Studio crashes very well, even with my reasonably powerful PC.  Anyhow, I am running FCPX on a Late 2012 27" iMac, 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5, with 16 GB RAM.  I also run it on a Mid 2009 15" MacBook Pro, 2.53 GHz Intel Core Core 2 Duo, with 8 GB RAM.  It runs great on both Macs, although there is more beachballing on the MBP - I don't use background rendering on it.  There are also plenty of people out there running it successfully on a Mac Mini.  The usual recommendation is to get the best Mac you can afford.  Don't forget to budget money for an external Thunderbolt hard drive!

  • Export to Apple TV straight from Final Cut (QTP/Compressor)

In preperation for my Apple TV, I needed to know how I can "export to apple TV" from Final Cut Pro. I can import my 1080i HDV footage (from a Sony HC7) into iMovie, go to share, Quicktime, Expert Setting and simply click "Export to Apple TV" (which is obviously built into Quicktime now. But when I have the same footage in FCP and go to "Export"...I can't find "to Apple Tv" ANYWHERE! Not in "quicktime movie", "quicktime conversion" or "using compressor". Am I missing something? We can we not export to Apple TV with in FCP?
I've posted this in the Quicktime, FCP & Compressor boards incase it's another issue.
    Thanks!

    yes....absoultely.
here is my response from my same QT thread:
i know. i have that (QT 7.1.5)...and QTP. in my original post...i said i can do this in iMovie very easily (i explained the process)...but when i try to export from FCP..."export to Apple TV" is not an option.
if you have FCP...you might want to try. i know in theory you think you would...but unless you have FCP...you won't know. can someone post a confirmation that has FCP so people on here don't think i'm loony.
and if you have FCP and can do this...please explain how.
    thanks!

  • So Apple blew it with  Final Cut Pro X?

OK...was just getting ready to upgrade from FCP to FCP X, but...reading the reviews, I'm EXTREMELY hesitant...
Did Apple blow it with this? The last thing  i need is "iMovie" on steroids. I  need a streamlined, PROFESSIONAL grade application for editing video and video soundtracks, NOT a "pretty face"...
You guys please lmk if it's worth the money as it stands RIGHT NOW. I'm not interested in paying for this THEN waiting for update after update when we should be beta testing for free, NOT with money out of our pockets.
Also, is it REALLY not backwards compatible with other FCP projects? If not, why not? And if not, how do you convert them and can you still work with them via some mechanism? If so, how hard is this to do and what do we compromise...?
    OK...discuss...ty.

If you are not willing to gamble $300, wait a few days (or heck, even a week) for more detailed reviews.  Then you can make up your mind if FCP X is useful for you.

This may come as shock to some, but not everyone has a huge back-catalog of previous FCP projects.  Yes, I do think that Apple should call out that right now FCP X can't open previous FCP projects.  So if you need that, than FCP X isn't a solution for you now.  Stick with FCP 7.  Nothing has changed.
But in the meantime, for those who it's not a big issue (like me) can start using FCP X today.
This is what is so boggling to me - how is it a negative that because Apple shipped it early for those for who the current feature set is appealing a negative?  If Apple had waited until the "pro" features were done and incorporated it would still be the same amount of time for those people.  But now all the users who don't rely or need on those higher-end "pro" features wouldn't have the software in the meantime.
You seem to be one of the smarter people on these forums - you actually waited to read a review before rushing out to spend $300 on a new piece of software.  Congratulations!  If it's not a fit for you, you can wait until it is (or until there is a more compelling solution for you if Apple takes too long or never delivers).
The amount of hysteria for what is basically poor impulse control and a lack of due-dillagance on the part of people who are supposedly "Pros" is simply breathtaking...

  • Upgrading from 'Apple Production Suite' to 'Final Cut Studio' ???

I have tried to upgrade Motion1 within 'Apple Production Suite' to Motion2 within FCS without installing the any of the other FCS applications such as FCP, DVDSP, ST.
The end result is that the Motion2 app have sucessfully installed and over written the previous Motion1 but I can not open Motion2 and begin working with it? The Motion icon bounces on clicking it but just doesn't open the application.
Do I need to overwrite the whole of current 'APS' that I'm using with the newer 'FCS' for Motion2 to open and work?
    Many thanks
    Simone

uninstall FCS and reinstall. you can leave your projects. it's just works better if you do a fresh install.

  • Help for Final Cut Pro X training book.

    Hello everyone!
I've recently decided to study to get the Apple Certification for Final Cut Pro X level 1, so I bought the book "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X" by Diana Weynand. Due to a mistake of mine, I bought the edition released on October 2011, knowing later that there is a 2012 version and a new one coming out in just a month.
I'd like to know if I can still handle the exam studying this book released on 2011, or if I necessarily need to get the latest version coming out sooon.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    - Alex

I understand. I don't feel like waiting so much time, so I need to choose.
1 - Start studying my old 2011 book since I have it here, and see if I can make it before the exam is updated (I have no idea how much time it'll take me to study the entire book though, even if I study everyday).
2 - Buy the Motion 5 book and get that certification while waiting for the new FCPX book to come out.
3 - Just waiting for the new FCPX book (which means wasting time waiting).
Thanks for your answers and patience.

  • Apple Pro Training Series

I'm looking to get some advanced training in FCP and the whole studio. I've seen the Apple Pro Training Series and I'm comparing them with looking at the books and DVD's that came with the Final Cut Studio. Is there a difference between the two?
Let's say I want to take Apple's Level 1 Pro Training exam...is there information in the Pro Series Books that I need for that exam? Or will I learn enough by doing the tutorials and reading the books that came in the box?
    Thanks in advance,
    -Benjamin

What book are you comparing the FCS material to?
In case it's not clear, the tutorial material that comes with Final Cut Studio is available in book form (Apple Pro Training Series: Getting Started with Final Cut Studio)
Let's say I want to take Apple's Level 1 Pro Training
exam...is there information in the Pro Series Books

No, the materials in the box (and the aforementioned book) are not enough. (That is, if your knowledge of FCP begins and ends with that material)
Apple's Level 1 FCP exam is based - exactly, from what I hear - on the information and material presented in Diana Weyland's book (Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 5).
The Level 2 exam, for instance, is based on Michael Wohl's book (Apple Pro Training Series: Advanced Editing Techniques in Final Cut Pro 5)
    Hope that helps.

  • Converting Final Cut Pro to Express

I had someone do a project for me using Final Cut Pro. Can I take that file and open it in Final Cut Express and do some of my own editing?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Final Cut Express can handle Final Cut pro 4 HD documents. I use all lessons included in "Apple Pro training Series- Final Cut Pro HD version 4" volume.
When FCE 2 came out, it was based on FCP 4 code, and many capabilities from this particular version of FCP were incude in FCE, we can call them "Twins".
Alas, FCE can handles only DV and HDV (Apple intermediate Codec), and not 24p.
You can double-click on a copy of your FCP document and see what will hapen, but if you do not have DV media on your mac, all clips will be disconnected from their source files, thus the editing will be impossible.
    Good luck.

  • Final Cut training disc

I am trying to learn Final Cut Pro. I bought the book Final Cut Pro from Peachpit. I have Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 and Apple Pro Training Series - Final Cut Pro 6 - lesson files DVD 1/08. I loaded the files on a hard drive as instructed in the book. When I try to open these files in Final Cut Pro the files refuse to open and I get the message: “file format is too new for this version of the application” I have tried two dual processor Macs with the same result I sent an email to Peachpit Press technical support over a week ago and left a message on their answering machine since they refused to answer the phone during business hours. Does anyone our there know the answer to this problem??? Perhaps Peachpit would be kind enough to answer. Thank you to anyone who can help. John

You can update to FCP 6.0.2 to have project files open or if you're reluctant to update your software version for whatever reason you can download the lesson files HERE that will open on FCP 6.0.1
    Hope that helps!

  • New user of Final Cut Express - recommendation for book, resource, training

I am a new user of Final Cut Express 4. Actually, I'm a new user of Mac too. I mastered Pinnacle on my PC but got fed up with the glitches, freezing etc.
Could use some advice on a good BEGINNER resource.
    Anyone???

Hi and welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Since FCE has a relatively steep learning curve, I would recommend getting one of two training books:
    1. [Final Cut Express 4 Editing Workshop|http://www.amazon.com/Final-Cut-Express-Editing-Workshop/dp/0240810775 /ref=sr12?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240436986&sr=8-2] by Tom Wolsky. This is how I learned the program and I can assure you that it is a comprehensive guide with everything from basic to more advanced techniques. I highly recommend it. Tom is a frequent contributor to this forum, so if you had any questions about a lesson then he'd be here to help you out.
    2. [Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Express 4|http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pro-Training-Final-Express/dp/0321534670/ref=sr14?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240437118&sr=8-4] by Diana Weynand. Though I can't vouch for it personally, I have heard from many people who were pleased with their experience learning from this book, and I'm sure it is quite good also.
There are also several good sites I've visited with free tutorials that you might like to check out:
