Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 8 and Logic Express 8 - Loops on the C

The CD that comes with has loops on it that you have to load into Logic Express. That is fine, but some of the loops are already present in Logic, thus now I have two sets of the same loops. For example, the listing in Guitar will show:
Southern Rock 01
Southern Rock 01
Southern Rock 02
Southern Rock 02
Not a huge deal but I would like to get the duplicate loops out and make sure I select the right ones to delete (the ones from the CD, not the ones drom Logic)
Has anyone come across this yet?

Have a look here: Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for GarageBand
Use sorting by date to find files which were copied there recently. This may help.

Can anyone provide a solution to this problem. Thanks

    YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!
    I got it!!! Yes!!!
Guys, I've solved my problem about that error -10202 (Selected driver not found).
I have installed in my Mac Pro (OS X 10.5.8) a document with an extension ".rsrc" to correct the position of the accents in my keyboard, like acute accent, tilde and circumflex.
That file is called "U.S. - International.rsrc" and it's stored in the following path:
    "Macintosh HD/Library/Keyboard Layouts"
So, when it's properly installed, I can choose 2 country flags on the right side of the menu bar (U.S. - International and Brazilian).
    That's the clue!
When I pick up "U.S. - International", my keyboard works fine with the accents, >>>BUT<<< Logic Pro 9 doesn't recognize my audio driver; and when I pick up "Brazilian", my keyboard doesn't work with the accents exactly as it shows me on each key, BUT Logic Pro 9 DOES recognize my audio driver.
So, when I want to write anything out, I will pick up the "US - International" and when I want to work on the Logic Pro 9, I will pick up "Brazilian".
I hope I can help all of you.
    Regards,
    Renato Veiga.

I've recently spilt a little bit of water on my Macbook Pro 13" and some of it went into the keyboard, the first thing I did was get paper towels and dry it off, everything is except now the speakers sound different, and a little bit lower in volume, basically the speakers just sound weird, there's no word to describe it, I can't really hear any bass from my speakers

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

WD My Passport 1TB USB external drive randomly ejects from my iMac and MacBook Pro.
The drive is approximately 4 years old.  When the drive is plugged in, I can see the data.  It appears to be working properly.  The only problem is that everyone of my Apple Machines are ejecting it.   Several years ago, this drive connected to Mac machines with no problems.   I have tried two separate USB cords.  I have updated the firmware.  I have tried it on my MacBook, two different Macbook Pro's, and my iMac.
All give the same result of random ejection of the drive and the error message of:
    Disk Not Ejected Properly
Eject "1TB Passport HD" before disconnecting or turning......
Searching through the web, it seems this is an common/known problem.   Does anyone know the solution?
    Thanks,

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Apple Pro Speakers and iFire adaptor

I am using an iBook G4 and hooked it up to external Apple Pro speakers (the clear orbs by Harmon Kardon) via an iFire adaptor.
I have been having problems since I purchased the adaptor in June. Griffin has been VERY helpful, and has replaced the unit three times. The first two worked about two weeks apiece, and then cut out completely. The third worked for about a week and then went quieter than the internal speakers. The one I just received worked for one song, then after I disconnected it and plugged it back in it fails to work.
Is there something wrong with my iBook? I have had it a year and have had no other problems with the computer or peripherals...
    Any ideas would be helpful.
    Mark

I have successfully cut off the Apple Pro Speaker's jack and connected it to a mini plug. Keep in mind that part of the "trick" with the Apple Pro speakers is that is uses an amp inside the iMac G4 to amplify and drive the speakers.
To compensate you can plug it into an amp
    or do what I do.
I have my iTunes audio turned all the way up combined with the software "Volume Logic" which also amplifies the signal further. Lastly, I have the Powerbook's own volume turned all the way up. It works and gives me better sound than the built in speakers and is about as loud as it is on it's own loudest setting, which is loud enough for me.
Also, please don't attempt this if you are not willing to make a mistake and render your speakers useless. I am an audio engineer and not everybody has the patience to play with wire and get them to connect adequately to create a signal.
    The right speaker has:
    shielding on the outside
    a layer of foil
    a brown wire
    a yellow wire
    The left speaker has:
    shielding on the outside
    a layer of foil
    a blue wire
    a white wire
Pull the foil away and when connecting these wires MAKE SURE THEY DO NOT TOUCH WIRES THAT THEY ARE NOT PURPOSELY ATTACHED TO.
Get a mini or headphones connector where the left and right wires are easily stripped and separated. I used one where the right wire is clearly red and the left is clearly white and both wires have shielding.
Make sure the stripped wires are stripped at least an inch above the shielding so there is less opportunity to touch.
Twist the shielding of all wires together and cover with electrical tape.
Twist the Brown and the Blue wires from the two speakers together and cover with electrical tape
Twist the white wire from the Apple Pro speaker together with the left (in my case white) wire connected to the mini connector, cover with electrical tape.
Twist the Yellow wire from the Apple Pro speaker together with the right (in my case red) wire connected to the mini connector, cover with electrical tape.

  • Apple Pro RES and DVD Studio Pro    for burning DVDS

I have a FCP file, shot in HD, 5.5 min long, in apple pro res. It needs to be in a format to send to various people to play on a commercial DVD player as well on apple and pc computers. So far I have made a H264, as well as a MPEG 2 on a "-" dvd and both will play only on my mac computer, not on a playstation 3, nor a pc, nor a commercial DVD player. What should I do?

so sorry I sounded curt....must be the heat.
I have zero experience. Someone was helping me compress my final cut pro movie which was apple pro res, then , in compressor we tried H.264, then MPEG 2, using "-", but neither of these would play on anything other than my mac.
I need them to be in a format that I can send to people who may be using a pc, mac or commericial DVD player.
It's very nice of you to reply....

  • I have the old clear apple pro speakers, and I want to find an adapter so I can use them as speakers for my iPad

Is there an adapter I can use for the apple pro speakers that will allow me to connect them to my iPad

It would be so much simpler if you'd provide some elementary detail in these sorts of questions, things like what do those speakers use for audio input now? If you're someone who doesn't already know the answer to that question, someone like me for example, then pretty much all I can do is this .....

  • Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro? And is it possible to upgrade the RAM without voiding the warranty?

Hi I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card on a MacBook Pro and the RAM without voiding the warranty? I have a gt 650m in my MacBook Pro, non retina, and to me, its not enough power for me, so i was looking around, and I found a retailer that would give me a nvidia gtx 660m for a decent price. Also, the ram needs to be at least 12gbs, to ensure that my computer would run fast.
If you can help, please tell me,
    Thankyou.

No, the video card cannot be exchanged - you have a pretty decent GPU there; not sure why you'd want to switch it out. You can upgrade the RAM to a maximum of 16GBs. Apple recommends upgrading in matching pairs, so I don't really think I'd try 4GB and 8GB stick.
Both Crucial and OWC have memory available for the new Macs. Both are reputable dealers and know Macs well and I would only buy from these sources (and I would buy Crucial, were it me).
Although your Mac didn't come with a users manual outlining the installation of the additional RAM, you can download the late 2011 model users guide as the models themselves are almost identical.
Good luck - write back with any questions.

  • Macbook Pro died and now won't connect to the internet

I just got home from college and my Macbook Pro died while I was using it because I couldn't find the charger in time to plug it in (stupid mistake that I never ever let happen usually). After I found it, plugged it in, and started it up again, the date and time were messed up on the computer. I reset them to normal and tried to connect to the internet using my old settings, but it hasn't connected.
I've tried a lot to try and fix it so far and it still won't connect. Other computers and devices (HP and Dell laptops, iPod touches, PS3) that my family have and use all work and connect to the internet fine.
I've tried to run the Network Diagnostics and after plugging in all of my settings and information, it says that it can't fix it. Next to it on the left, the Airport, Airport Settings, and ISP are all green...but the Network Settings is yellow and the Internet and Server are red.
I've deleted my internet settings and tried recreating them and that hasn't worked either. I have also tried the Assist Me portion to make a new connection - no luck there.
I've also tried resetting the Macbook Pro and the router (an Actiontec router for Verizon FIOS) multiple times and that hasn't worked either.
I unfortunately can't use Time Machine either because I don't have an external hard-drive and haven't set it up.
I just don't really know what to do at this point. Hopefully someone can help me out!

Same problem--hoping to get Apple's attention by throwing my hat in the ring with everybody else.
Things tried (now approaching 2 weeks of failure):
    Deleting "Airport" Connection, Adding/Restarting/Re-adding/etc.
    Archive Install
Erase & Install (full reinstall done by Genius)
    Card Replacement
    Bluetooth Replacement
    Zapping the PRAM
    Trying different connections/routers/locations/connection types/etc.
Visited Genius bar 4 times now.
Have been without the computer longer than I've been with it.
Trying to change over from a horrifically bad Dell to a refurb Mac worked once before...though I've come to believe: It's not the refurb, it's not the hardware, it's not the settings, it's not the router, it's not the install, it's not the associated software, it's not the connection, it's not the Super Moon that comes up tomorrow...It's a hardware issue as this has been happening since I opened the computer out of the box, and we have an identical computer running identical programs on an identical network with the identical updates and NO problems whatsoever--I'm assuming the innards may have been cheap'ed out somewhere to save a buck or a connector is faulty after a particular build date?
Full symptom list (in no particular order):
    Connection Timeout
    Connection Drop
    Not recognizing Airport
Card Recognition but endless connection time
    IP non-recognition
    Random re-connect
Indication of connection without transmitting/receiving data
Frustrated Mac lover trying to convert a Dell user...

  • Differences between FC Pro HD and FC Express HD?

Is there a simple comparison chart somewhere on the Apple (or other) website listing the features of both FC Pro HD and Express HD? If not, can someone summarize the key differences and features between the applications?
    Thanks.

Yes, there is. On the Apple site. Just look at the feature pages for FCP and the feature pages for FCE and compare. There isn't a single page that has a side by side comparison.

  • XBOX 360, MacBook Pro, PC and Airport Express don't all connect

Just got the new XBOX360 with built in wi-fi for Christmas! Also have a MacBook Pro and a PC connected wirelessly to my Airport Express.
Prior to the XBOX 360 the ApE worked flawlessly with the MbP and PC.
Now, depending on the day, either the PC or the XBOX will not connect with the ApE. I can connect wirelessly to XBOX Live one day, and not connect wirelessly to the PC the next and vice versa.
Powering off the cable modem resolves this, but only for one day, then the problem returns. Any suggestions?

By default, both should already by DHCP clients ... but it is possible that either or both were reconfigured with static IPs that may not be correct for your network configuration.
For the PC, I would need to know which operating system it is running.
For the Xbox 360, you configure, whether or not, it would be a DHCP client via the System Settings > Network panel. The key is that you want both the IP & DNS Addressing to be "Automatic."
