Apple Product connection to Internet via a Wifi Router on a Class B Network

Hi, I am trying to connect my Apple devices to the Internet on a Class B network via a WiFi Router. My devices did connect via the same Wifi Router when it was on an A Class Network (which has changed to B Class), so don't suspect router.
Is there a configuration change required on the Router or Apple device to make it work on the B-Net?
Any advice appreciated.
Regards
Matt

Hey MattnDonna!
You may want to make sure your wireless network conforms to the following settings:

If you are still having issues connecting your devices after adjusting those settings, you may need to use the following articles for further troubleshooting:

I'm not able with ipod touch to connect to internet through my wifi router, which is Sitecom 150N working fine with pc

Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address when the iPod requested it. To check on this go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address shown starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix for this can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router model and version (the 150n designation is not a unique model), the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), is MAC address filtering being used, etc.

  • My MacBookPro only connects to Internet via a WiFi hotspot

New MacBookPro laptop with OS 10.8.4 with Airport turned on connects via WiFi hotspot to internet but will not connect wirelessly to Internet via modem and router connected to cable service.  Will also not connect via Ethernet to modem and router to cable service.  Desktop does connect.  Any suggestions for connecting via Airport to modem and cable from MacBook Pro laptop?

If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Lost connection to internet via 'airport' WiFi and 'NETGEAR WNR2000v' base router

After trying to connect 'MacBook Pro SnowLeopard' via Fire Wire '6pin to 9pin' to new 'iMac-LION'  there is no possibility anymore to get contact to the internet, even all Network 'airport' configuration and passwords has been still the same. The 'NETGEAR router' configuration and activity was reset and checked successfully many times. Windows XP through 'Internet Explorer' by Ethernet cable via 'NETGEAR router' still works perfect. But 'airport WiFi' of both Mac's are screwed up suddenly completly after working perfect for more than 1/2 year! Need some help to get it working again!

  • Apple TV to access internet via subnet (2nd router) via powerline

    My current setup is this:
Internet -> Sky router ( DHCP & Wireless off ) -> Asus AC66U ( static IP from Sky router & DHCP on & serves all internet connections in home)
The Apple TV 3rd gen is connected via ethernet in to a power line plug.
It was previously 'looking' at the Sky router for internet access but now that's no longer servicing as a DHCP, it should now look too the Asus router for internet access via ethernet and/or wirelress
Am I right in assuming that all I need to do is set the settings, manually, on the Apple TV to look at the Asus router via the DNS settings or do I need to set it a static IP on both the ATV and the Asus Router?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Kam,
If you are changing your network configuration but still using a wired configuration for your Apple TV, then you will not need to change anything. Then only thing you will need to do is to make sure that it is connected to the router that is servicing DHCP. The article below has a a brief snippet on that.

  • Connecting to iTunes via a wifi router

I have a wireless router on my network and the wireless subnet is different from the wired subnet. My Internet connection is via a cable modem on the wired subnet, and that is working fine for my wireless devices. What doesn't work is iTunes on the wired subnet WiFi access of my iPad. If I remove the gateway routing, and make the wireless subnet the same as the wired, it works fine. However, I need to have the flexibility to be able to modify the wireless subnet to be able to manage other devices on other subsets (long story, and not really relevant here), so I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to get iTunes to work through the router?

Investigate router firewalls.  After much weeping and gnashing of teeth, I learned that a router firewall can block IOS (iPad and iPod) communication without affecting other devices, such as computers.  Temporarily turn all firewalls off and determine if the iPad works.  If it does, turn the firewalls back on but weaken them as required to allow iPad communications.

    Wi-Fi Setup Considerations
Things to consider before you begin
Start with a plan for the physical layout. Depending on whether you have an existing Wi-Fi network, or if you are using your AirPort Express as a standalone Wi-Fi device, there are several options available for you to choose from.
When using Ethernet, Cat6 cable is recommended.
The layout you choose should take into account environmental factors such as physical access, location, range, radio frequency interference, etc.
You will need to consider what AirPort Utility settings to adopt.
You will need to know whether you are using an AirPort Express (802.11b/g) or an AirPort Express (802.11a/b/g/n).
If you will be using more than one Wi-Fi base station, it may be helpful to read the article Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations.

my macbook pro is connected to internet via my time capsule but my iPad and iPhone won't. it shows wifi connection to the time capsule but when i go on to the internet on the iPad or iPhone, it comes up with network error. can anyone help?

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

I have a Mac connected to Internet via DSL modem. Just bought an iPad2 and need to know what hardware do I need to add wireless LAN so I can use iPad anywhere in the house. Will a Linksys router work with Apple? Can Mac be "hardwired" and iPad wireless? Probably stupid questions but I need to learn. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. You are correct. I was speaking in general terms here based on my experience with the two devices in day to day use, and not in terms of exact specifications.
A better choice would have been to say that the "coverage" is about the same with the edge going to the Extreme....due to the newer mutliple antenna design.
We sure could use more help on the forums. Hope that you will become a regular.
    Hi Bob
RF is a minefield, but one that I have worked in for ages, the most critical factor in my experience is location, location, location!
Better routers have more intelligently designed antenna systems, output power as I said is the same, radiation pattern (coverage) is dependent on antennas and physical location more than all other factors.

  • My ipad has stopped connecting to wifi, a reset hasn't worked, what else can I try? (the wifi is fine as other apple products connect ok)

My ipad has stopped connecting to wifi, a reset hasn't worked, what else can I try? (the wifi is fine as other apple products connect ok)

Have you tried a 'hard reset'. You do not lose any of your data on the iPad.
    Here are the steps:
Press the Power Buton and the Home button simultaneously.
Continue to hold down both buttons until the iPad shuts off
Release the buttons when the Apple Logo appears.
Also, make sure your iPad is not in airplane mode. Settings, Airplane mode is the first option under settings,
    Hope this helps.
