Apple product printer for mac os system 7.6.1

I misstated my question. I wish to know what apple product printer will work with a mac os, system 7.6.1. I need to know precisely which model(s) will work as I need to purchase one, probably off the internet. Thanks for your help!
os   Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier   system 7.6.1

Sandpointl,
Our first laser printer was a personal laserwriter NT and we printed 8000 documents with our first toner cartridge. If you do not need color, laser is the way to go. The newer printers, like the laserwriter select, are great. University surplus sales are a great source. The last six printers were $35 or less. The untested 'as is' printers being auctioned off as a lot were $2.50. Goodwill also has printers from time to time.
The toner cartridge might cost you $25 to $75. If you want to use the older computers, you have to be willing to shop at older shops or recyling stores.
This site gives a nice summary of printers from that day.
http://www.sunrem.com/specifications/printers2.html
All work with an Imagewriter cable. Print the list and carry it in the car. If you happen onto one of those printers, make a test print - I carry a laptop on serious shopping trips.
If you just want to buy retail and have it work, upgrading your computer will be cheaper. If you do not mind bargain hunting, older printers are a dime a dozen.

    sandpoint l,
Many HP inkjet printers have a parallel port for PCs and a second MiniDIN-8 printer port for the Mac. A quick look at the ports will tell you if the inkjet will connect to the Mac. Drivers are not too hard to find if they are not already on the Mac OS install CD.
HP laser jet printers will have an "M" included in the name. Yesterday at the WSU auction, a pallet of 20 laser printers sold for $2.50. One was an HP Laserjet 6MP. The M means you do not even have to see the back of the printer to know it will plug into a Mac.
Jan mentioned ethernet. Any printer with a network card or onboard ethernet ( including the older auii? - one brain cell just died and I cannot remember the name of the earlier port that requires an adapter to convert to RJ 45 phone plug style cables) allows for sharing a printer on a faster connection.
This link to Sun Remarketing has a nice matrix of older printer info:

The printer you choose depends more on what you want to spend for color vs. the reliability and economy of black laser toner.

hi can anyone help please ? i have had apple products now for apron 7 years BUT have never been able to make the bluetooth work , not even when 2 products i.e. : phone and iPod are in the same room. So i stopped trying but would like to set it up between my iMac and iphone / ipad but can't get it to work, they say discoverable but just will not connect to one another. I also tried the connection code and tried without one ... NO JOY ... Is this common or am i a twit ?

You can't connect an iPhone or iPad to a Mac via Bluetooth, except for Internet tethering.
You're not doing anything wrong - it just isn't a feature of iOS devices.
What were you hoping a Bluetooth connection would allow you to do?

From the Safari menu bar click View > Zoom In  or press Command + on the keyboard to increase the size of the page.
If that doesn't help, open System Preferences > Accessibilty > Settings then select Zoom on the left.
You can also increase the resolution on the dislplay. System Preferences > Displays > Display > Scaled
You can also get help by posting in the Apple Support Communities > Vision forum here.

    Hello Flajack,
Thanks for the post.  I did some checking here and the HP 3050a is compatible with MAC OS 10.7 in a wireless environment.  What kind of issues are you having?  Installation? Connectivity?  Maintaining a wireless connection?  I've included a couple of my favorite links below to assist in getting this resolved.  Check the information in these links and let me know how it goes from there.  Good Luck!

  • WebEx Productivity Tools for Mac

I have a MacBook Pro 15 Retina running Yosemite 10.10.2 and MS Office for Mac 2011.  I installed the latest version of WebEx Productivity Tools for Mac, the installation completed just fine, the WebEx icons hooked into Outlook OK.  But every time I try to schedule a meeting, I get this error:
    The operation couldn’t be completed.
    (NSURLErrorDomain error -999.)
Does anyone here have a clue what the hell that means?

    Hi William,
I suggest you call into WebEx Support. This community is for Cisco WebEx Meetings Server product (on premise solution) that doesn't support PT for Mac, so can't verify what such error might represent.
    I hope this will help.

  • AAT Apple Advanced Typography for the writing systems of world scripts

    Thomas Gewecke writes:
If I had to choose one problem which does exist and causes considerable practical difficulties for a lot of people, it would be that lack of full OpenType support in OS X (and the resulting requirement for rare AAT fonts) makes it impossible for Mac users to do everything they might want in a number of important scripts, or to do anything at all in quite a few others.
This is a frequently asked question, so perhaps the simplest solution is to try to support this in a separate thread. It is probably preferable to repeat what Apple has published on the Unicode mailing list on the subject of writing systems in world scripts. A link to a supplier of AAT fonts for lesser languages is included in the references (Bassa, Brahmi, Burmese, Cambodian, Georgian, Inuktitut, Kannada, Laotian, Lepcha, Limbu, Malayalam, N'ko, Osmanya, Sinhala, Tai Le, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan ...). The most advanced Arabic implementation is Mishafi from Diwan in London - this has earned praise on Typophile. There are several independent software publishers (aside from Apple iWork) that support authoring with AAT Apple Advanced Typography.
According to the Apple Unicode Liason, Deborah Goldsmith, as of OS X 10.2 it is possible for the small type maker to support a writing system in a world script through the optional Apple MORX Metamorphosis Extended tables in the SFNT Spline Font file format. Dropping an SFNT and an input method into the operating system adds the shaping for the writing system. And according to the Apple Unicode Liason, as of OS X 10.4 the optional Apple MORX tables for complex composition and the optional Microsoft GSUB tables for complex composition may peacefully cohabit in the selfsame SFNT Spline Font file (leaving aside the issue of whether this is sound advice, or whether sound advice should say that an SFNT should contain either TrueType or Type 1, either MORX or GSUB - not both in either case).
    Hope this helps,
    Henrik

Please pardon any speedwriting in the following - it's off the cuff :
From the little I understand about the technical details of the differences between AAT and OpenType, I'd guess AAT to be the superior system, from the user's (or font designer's) point of view.
The issue is the business model. Apple TrueType 2 and Apple ColorSync 2 were developed to provide very, very, very highend character:glyph transforms and colour:colourant transforms in an application-independent manner.
The application model was Java and OpenDoc and while OpenDoc is defunct, as is Taligent, Java within which AAT is embedded is alive and kicking. In the application model the idea was that the small developer did not have to independently do elements outside the scope of the application.
Similarly, a graphics library was available to avoid the problem that PostScript is inherently unreliable as it is a programming model that can be used to extend the PostScript graphics model, causing PostScript programs to crash at critical times.
Software publishers in the nineteen-nineties published software for the standalone personal computer with its suite of standalone software. And the standalone software had its own Application Programming Interface that locked XTensions, Plug-ins and more into one and only one suite.
Adobe did NOT want QuickDraw GX and Adobe still has a 'white' paper in which the company states that the idea of the SFNT Spline Font file format as an application-independent product that takes over large parts of line layout is objectionable.
The pendulum does not stand still, however. In the 1970s there were terminals for time-shared centralised computing. In the 1980s and 1990s there were decentralised 'personal' computers in local area networks with their own storage and with graphic displays and printers.
The growth of instructure, both in terms of distributed networking and in terms of an international character set, permits a blend of time-shared computing and 'personal' graphics computing which was intended e.g. with the Apple MessagePad and with Java (Amelio married the ideas).
Apple bled external and internal developers with the late lamented GX and the application model was ten years ahead of its time. Modern imaging models are founded on the ideas implemented in GX and absolutely NOT on the ideas implemented in PostScript and PDF.
Jonathan Seybold told Apple to do an application for pagination, since an application for pagination is the sine qua non for a composition model, a separation model, and a document model (the Apple Portable Digital Document model).
Apple did not do that as it would have caused increased commercial conflict with Adobe, Quark and Macromedia at a time when hardcopy production was still the high end of the Apple product portfolio, and so while ColorSync survived TrueType as prosumer and pro solution suffered.
Ironically, XTT's developer did manage at one time to make his primary Tibetan font usable in both Mac and Windows environments -- by somehow combining AAT and OpenType elements within it -- but his considerable effort was then torpedoed, I gather, by some (unannounced, as usual) changes Apple made in font implementation in 10.4.
Deborah Goldsmith gave bad advice on the Unicode mailing list, I'm sorry but it was not sound technically. Dov Isaacs, Adobe's technical quality manager, gave sound advice in saying that Type 1 splines and TrueType splines should not be housed in the selfsame SFNT Spline Font file. I read what the Xenotype developer posted, and Apple bungled as Apple has bungled other important things like supporting a decent international default separation for ColorSync. There is no excuse whatsoever - if Apple cannot use Apple software with Apple defaults to do a decent job then Apple needs to find out whether it is working for Apple customers or is working for itself.
I don't know what might be necessary to make it possible for Mac users to employ OpenType fonts for complex scripts, but I can't believe that this goal is simply beyond the capabilities of Apple's engineers. Nor do I understand why Apple seems to keep, well, stalling on this issue.
The answer lies in the document model, not in the internationalisation model or in the SFNT imaging model. I am not an expert on Indic scripts (I don't speak or write any of them), but as I understand the matter Indic calligraphic scripts are simulated typographically using a feature called insertion that splits one character code into two glyph codes for vowels.
This type of typographic simulation does not pose problems if you are authoring with the aim of archiving and accessing hardcopy, since your audience is not interacting with the character string, but if you are authoring, archiving, and accessing softcopy then simulation methods such as insertion and bidirectionality may pose problems.
Specifically, if in the process of producing your softcopy pagination you loose the source character stream and the mapping of said character stream to the reshaped and reordered glyph stream, then you have to try to synthesise the character stream. And the more complex the reshaping and reordering, the less likely you are to get a successful simulation.
This is the issue between Adobe PDF produced from PostScript and Microsoft XPS which retains as well the source character stream as the mapping of the character stream to the glyph stream. Adobe PDF, by contrast, is basically a viewable graphic of the glyph stream - Adobe PDF does not even retain semantics for reshaping of formal Danish typography.
    Hope this helps,
    Henrik

  • Best network (4-in-1) laser printer for Mac??

    Hi Girls & Guys,
I'm looking for a reliable laser network printer (fax/copy/scan/print) suitable for Mac, for small business - 2 iMac's Snow leopard.
I had problems in the past, especially with regards to scanning through a network HP printer to my iMac's.
Anybody have some suggestions? Brands & Models...
I've heard Brother, Epson & Canon are most suitable for Macintosh.
    THANKS!!

If I were you, I'd go shopping at MacMall - they have a number of printers that they sell and will let you know if they are Mac-compatible.
This one looks nice - and supports AirPrint.
I do a lot of shopping there, for everything from hard drives to Apple products. Have always received top-notch service.

  • What is the best multifunction printer for Mac?

I'm currently trying to choose a great multifunction printer for our small office and I need advice on what brands are "fully" compatible with Mac OSX 10.4 and higher. I would like to know what your experiences are with certain brands and models.
In my particular situation I have a list of requirements in order of importance:
    1. fully compatible with the Mac OSX 10.4 (and higher) operating system.
    2. affordable (that's very subjective but for me that would mean something below US$600)
    3. monochromatic laser printing
    4. network printing: LAN or wifi (wifi preferable? are there disadvantages?)
    5. duplex printing
    6. duplex copying
    7. +/- 30 ppm or cpm
    8. scan to ftp or to hard disk (without the need for additional software preferable)
    9. network scanning
    10. toner and drum in one
    11. faxing
Please also state what you found great with your machine.
Looking forward to reading your opinions.

I don't have a home office - nor do I have any experience in printers the way some reviewers do. When it comes to printing, all I care is that it actually prints and doesn't jam.
Printers are so inexpensive these days and my old printer was a great Cannon that did it's job - cost about 80 bucks when I purchased. Then I bought an iPad and tried ALL the free printing apps - and even paid for an app that swore it would work with any printer. NOPE.
So, when this printer came up to test - I jumped on it! WOW. Not only is it so easy to set up, even I can do it (didn't even need the disk). It prints anywhere from my iPad and my iPhone. I also love the double sided printing and never realized how much double siding printing I actually do. It's great for long recipes. The photo aspect of it is sharp and clear. I LOVE The scanner and though I rarely use a fax - it's nice to know it's available so I don't have to drive to my local media store. For the price - it's amazing.
It's also super fast compared to my Cannon and super quiet.
I've started recommending this to my friends - even though they may not do much printing - it's amazing how much you'll start printing once you have this super hero. Kind of like my Kindle - I read way more books now than I did when reading hard/paper backs!!!.

  • Need new ink jet printer for Mac G4 with classic

I've searching for a new color inkjet printer for my G4 with Classic and have found only 1 by Epson, the R800. However, I'm getting different answers from various techs. One said I just need to get a print server. A tech at Epson says it probably won't work for my classic mode if the OS 9 software is booted up with an OS 10 driver. I don't know the answer to this or exactly what it means!!! Most of my printing would be done with OS 9 software. I have been using an HP laser printer and an HP color inkjet on all 3 of my networked Macs with no problem. Can anyone tell me if the Epson R800 will work? Thanks, Ann C

I don't have it, but the specification page says

So I see no reason why it would not work.

  • Adobe CS5 Production Premier for MAC: My $700 Dollar Set of Coasters.

Preface: If you have a genuine interest in the plight of those that have had to suffer under the sword of Adobe's tyrannical rule than read on, otherwise feel free to move on wary traveler.  (I don't want to bother you with this if you are fed up with hearing people talk about how they need help with customer service and blah blah blah.  It's just an attempt to be curtious.)
A poster by the Name Zenmama77 had a problem very similar to mine, except in this case someone took interest and forwarded this to persons of interest:
"I am having a serious issue with customer service. I purchased CS5 Design Standard in Feb for school, my computer crashed (PC) and I called Adobe because I was wanting to purchase a Mac  and wanted to know if there was a way to save my program. I was very happy when they told me I could do a cross platform swap, free of charge one time. I had to pay $6 for shipping of the discs. I gave the agent my credit card number, went out and bought my Mac,  I waited the 7 days for the discs to arrive, then waited 7 more, the discs never came, so I called the company and after waiting on hold for 47 minutes I had to hang up, I called back a couple of days later and was finally told that I was not allowed to do a platform swap because CS5 design standard was no longer eligble (would have been nice to know as I would have just purchased the HP touchsmart computer instead of the iMac( like I told the agents). I am a little upset at the way this went down and would not have been in the least bit angry if they (3 agents) hadn't promised me the platform switch, like I said, I would have just purchased the other computer. So now, after going back and forth for weeks, looks like I have a $1300 paperweight (CS5 program). And have to repurchase CS5.5. for Mac. In the meantime, I have to take a failing grade in my digital imaging and Photoshop class, which ruins my 4.0 GPA. I wish there was an alternative to Adobe, I would like to say that I will never use there products again, but given my chosen career field, it's not true. It's sad that they treat their customers this way and can get away with it. I wish they would have honnored their promise to me to do the platform switch, they won't do it because I would have to get the CS5.5 software instead (which I could care less about), I feel like since they promised the switch they should have to honor it, especially sonce no one ever called to inform me that they couldn't do it, I just had to wait and wait for my discs to arrave before I called them myself to see what happened, Has anyone else had this issue arise? We have spent HOURS on the phone trying to explain our situation."
I now want to know if these persons of interest are still available because unfortunately attempting to resolve an issue like this via telephone or chat seems to be difficult to say the least.  Here is my plight as I have wrote in a seperate post:
I had a mac and just before its death (long, complicated story) I purchased CS5 Production Premier Teacher & Student, this being my last opportunity to take advantage of my student discount (forshadowing.) Skip forward and a severe lack of job opportunities later and I have a crap job but made just enough to create a machine (though PC this time) that could handle CS5.  Apparently, unbeknownst to me,  in order for me to get a version of the software (that I already legitamitly own) that I can use (because I was never able to use the MAC one) I have to purchase an uprgrade, which they are completly willing to help me with (and I am completely willing to not be able to afford.)  Then there was another discovery to be had: Teacher & Student edition doesn't upgrade so they can assist me buying the software. Again.
[Note: Edited to take out some of the anger/frustration of the original post as it was written moments after me and the customer service rep had our bonding experience]
I make $9 dollars an hour and will soon have to start paying back student loans (the last of which were spent on this software that, as said prior, I was unable to use)  the last thing I can afford is to buy such an upgrade , or worse, purchase software again that I legitimatly own (albiet on a different platform.)  I will send you back the disc, I will take pictures of me with the disc frollicing on a beach, whatever it takes I just don't want all the money I spent to have been a waste.  The customer service rep I spoke with told me those were my only options but I can only hope that that isn't true.  So *fingers crossed* this avenue bears some fruit.
At the very least I am left with.. 3 tasteful purple coasters if nothing else (and the customer service rep agrees.)

Which language is your default system language set to? This is critical as you may have installed support for langauges that your version of CS cannot handle. The common fix is to choose File --> Info or File --> Explore Package and remove e.g. Asian languages...

  • How to retrieve Microsoft Office Product Key  for Mac

Hi there, Hopefully someone might have a suggestion on how to retrieve the Microsoft Office Product Key for Office 2010 on Mac.
Scenario:  Last month, Apple advised me my iMac hard drive may be faulty and would need replacing.  That was done, I restored my iMac from Timeline backup and everything is dandy except I need the Product Key for Office to access any of my documents.  I purchased the product online in my old job, that email address is now no longer valid and I have lost access to the email that the product key was emailed to me in.  I am unable to retrieve the product key from Microsoft without buying a new copy.
I do have Office uploaded on my Macbook Air from the same download/product key, so I have access to the program on the laptop but not the iMac.  Hopefully I can get the product key from the laptop somehow.
Any guidance or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks :-)

As Office is not an Apple product, I strongly recommend asking in the Microsoft Office:Mac forums here:
