Apple (PRODUCT) Red Donations

I'm sorry I had no clue where to put this question, I was wondering how much money has Apple donated/raised for (PRODUCT) Red in all the years and in 2012,  I need the two seperate numbers, Thanks.

  • What are the best ways to recycle used Apple products?

I currently have a iPhone 4 (32 GB, Black) and a Macbook Pro (Mid-2009, 2.53 GHz, 250 GB storage, 4 GB memory) that I don't use anymore. I'm looking into recycling them or selling them but I'm not sure about:
    a) What the products are worth - the iPhone looks brand new and the Macbook Pro is in fair condition but needs a battery replacement
    b) Which recycling programs to go with - Apple's PowerON program has shady reviews and I'm not sure whether to trust sites like 'gazelle'
If anyone has any advice on recycling or selling their Apple products, let me know. Thanks!

    jess_ek,
To get an idea of what the products are worth, take a look at recent winning bids on online auction sites for identical items to yours in similar condition.
If you prefer to recycle rather than to sell, you could donate them to iFixit, which will make maximum use of their parts to help keep other iPhones and MacBook Pros running. If you’d prefer to sell them, you could offer them as individual lots on online auction sites, or advertise them for sale on online classified ad sites.

  • Have Product Red Nano, but Want to Use iTunes 6 not 7...any ideas?

I Got an Product Red nano for Christmas, which only works with iTunes 7. I prefer iTunes 6 because of the Volumelogic plugin as I listen to my music a lot at home.
Is there any way I can trick the nano to work with version 6, or somehow have both versions installed at the same time?
I do have an external hard drive and I've tried installing itunes 7 to the computer and itunes 6 to the external - and that didn't work...

    Hi,
I have a product red nano too, and I was wondering if you could describe in very simple terms the problem you are having. I would like to take full advantage of my nano, and I don't quite understand what you are saying.
As far as I can tell, you seem to be saying that you can't use the nano with itunes 7 to play music on your computer, but you can if you have itunes 6? Why would apple cripple features in a later release?

I have a new generation Product (Red) 64GB iPod Touch...about 2 days ago my apps just stopped updating, any suggestions?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - go to Settings>iTunes and App Store and sign out and sign back in.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • What is the best apple product for my wife?

    Hello all,
I recently broke our Windows laptop (stepped on it and cracked the screen).  The price on replacing this screen makes me feel, that I should go the extra mile and just replace the thing since it was sort of up there in age anyway.
So here is where I need you guys.  I have heard that Macs are excellent products, but I know VERY little.  My wife and I have been with windows our entire lives.  I sincerely apologize for the "noob" questions, but googling for a couple hours has left me with little first hand experience that fits us well. With that being said...First question:
Is there anything a typical Windows user will have trouble adjusting to?
For example, I know the iphone/ipod touch don't use flash.  Are the macs the same?  I read that they dumped flash in 2010?  Can you still use it if you wanted to?  Is there an alternative?  But what I'm really getting at is, how hard will it be for us to transition?  Are there typical windows features we may lose?  Is it true that I'll no longer need anti-virus software?
Is the MacBook Air right for us?  Ipad 2?  MacBook Pro?
One reason I want a Mac, as I've said, is that I've heard that they are the best.  I want to give my wife a very good gift.  She never gets anything top of the line for herself and I want to spoil her with this surprise without her being able to tell me "no".  Therfore, I want this new item to tailor to her more than me.
She mainly uses the laptop for pleasure.  She loves to browse sites...read articles...and most of all, check up with friends on facebook.  She is also really really into pictures and editing.  She loves to take pictures and create little videos with music and whatever and I've heard that the Macs have pretty good software for this (Does it come standard?).
Anyway, while this will be pleasure over business 95% of the time, she may need word processing capability.  This is likely to be extremely light work.  Example would be listing DVDs we own.  Possibly touching up a resume...  She's been interested in writing a book though, so maybe this has the potential to upgrade to more business (I guess I may have just eliminated the ipad, huh?).
So is there a type of apple product that seems to scream out for my wife?
Also, If it has any weighing in this decision, we both own ipods.
I very sincerely thank you guys for reading my wall of text.  I am happy to read links if you have any good ones to share instead of writing yourselves.  I know I've overwhelmed you guys with a ton of questions.  And I'm sorry if this is a topic you get all the time, but I figured I'd give it a try to make the best decision I can!
    Thanks so much,
    Danny

    Hi Danny,
These are some great questions, hopefully I can answer them appropriately for you.
MacBook Pro vs. MacBook Air vs. iPad 2
The good news, outside of an optical drive, those first two are pretty similar in terms of functionality and features. Throw the iPad 2 into the sequence and it changes things significantly.
While the iPad 2 is an exceptional product with near limitless features, thanks to the App Store, it still requires a computer. It can wirelessly print, but how did that printer get setup? It can stream over AirPlay to your Apple TV, but how did that AppleTV get setup? Not to mention, having your media backed up is always a good idea.
There are two big differences between the MacBook Air & MacBook Pro and it's something to consider.
1.) How often do you need peripheral ports?
The MacBook Air has 2 USB ports, a MiniDisplay Port and a headphone jack. It does not have a FireWire port, it does not have an Ethernet port, it only has an SD card slot on the 13" model, it also does not have an optical drive.
Are these important to your wife? Will she routinely be burning, writing to or reading from CDs/DVDs? If so, you'll need to purchase an external drive and tie up one of your USB ports or purchase a hub. It also does not have an Ethernet port and in order to gain access to one you need to buy an external adapter that again ties up a USB port. It also only supports 10/100 connections, not 10/100/1000.
There's no doubt that CD/DVD media is in a decline, soon just about everything is going to be available via direct downloads and many things already are so maybe that's not important. Given the device's portability and how many places have WiFi you could justify not needing an Ethernet port. Most manufacturers default their peripheral connection for external media to USB, FireWire is very Mac specific and often times adds a premium price onto the accessory. Gigabit Ethernet is negligible for day-to-day usage, unless you're moving multi-GB files on a routine basis.
2.) What sort of potential growth opportunities do you need?
One glaring limitation to the MacBook Air is that you cannot upgrade the RAM or HD capacity, something that you can do on the MacBook Pro. OWC does make 3rd party flash storage but it's very expensive, especially when you compare it against platter drives.
Storage will vary from user-to-user. I have probably 50GB worth of media between photos, music, videos, etc. My wife on the other hand? Well over 1TB of content and although she doesn't access it daily, it's frequent enough where it prompted us to get a NAS solution for our apartment.
RAM is one of those things that you can never have enough of in computing. You won't hear someone way: "Wow, this computer is way too fast." Unless you're trying to install a computer game from the early 90s.
I encourage you, if you end up with the MBA, to consider the upgrade to 4GB of RAM. I question how relevant 2GB of RAM will be on a computer in 2 or 3 years and what the demands of programs will require then.
    Get to an Apple Store
Go early in the morning during the week or late one weeknight an hour or so before the store closes. Spend 20-30 minutes with each of the three products you're considering. They're all preloaded with software, games, productivity applications, sample galleries, etc. Ask the people on the floor to let you discover uninterrupted but be nearby when you're done and have some Q&A. Don't let them dry to "drive" your experience or prattle about how awesome and magical it is. They don't know exactly what you'll be using it for and if you tell them you're brand new Apple they'll usual try to show you what they like, not what you might like by blind discovery.
    Macromedia Flash & Applications
Flash does not work on iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPhone) but it works just fine on the MacBook Pro & MacBook Air. Every new Mac will come with iLife which includes: iPhoto, Garageband, iMovie, iDVD and iWeb. They're fantastic programs and are "gateway" products to Apple's next tier of products:
    iPhoto -> Aperture
    Garageband -> Logic
iMovie & iDVD -> Final Cut
iWeb is the red-headed stepchild in this equation. You'd graduate to an Adobe product like Dreamweaver if you suddenly became interested in web-design.
Good luck in your decision making process!

  • I will not purchase another Apple product until iTunes is sorted.

I am an iPhone and iPad user for work and for home. Let's be clear, I think those products are great. I rely on them heavily for day to day life. They are however hampered by the inability of iTunes to do anything properly. I am an IT literate person and have a lot of experience of using many different pieces of software and I can categorically state that iTunes is the worst piece of software I have ever used.
    Examples:
Just downloaded iOS 5. Was updating my iPhone and the sync crashed halfway through. I now have an iPhone where no apps work. iTunes currently crashes every time I try to re-sync it.
The whole sync experience is poor. It is often confusing and I generally start a sync with a feeling of dread. It is not the consumer experience that Apple should be giving people.
Sync speed is ridiculously slow. I have 32Gb iPad and iPhone. Sync often takes over an hour. Even though my iTunes library is stored on a NAS there is no excuse for this poor performance.
If I rip music from CD's using windows media player, WMP will find the album art and song titles every time without fail without me having to do anything else. If I then try to import those files into iTunes, almost certainly it will not find the correct album art. I would understand this if I was listening to obscure music but this recently happened with the latest Red Hot Chili Peppers album. Ironically, while the message 'Cannot find Album Art' was being displayed, the album and it's artwork was being shown on the Ping bar.
So, I have had enough. While the devices themselves look and work brilliantly they are let down badly by the software. Just google 'iTunes problems' and there are pages and pages of issues heading back many years. Apple needs to grasp the nettle and rewrite iTunes.
Until they do so, I will not be purchasing any more Apple products. If you agree, I hope you do the same.
    David

My iphone 4 is having problems with backups.  It just hangs, yet applemobiledevice is hogging 25% CPU.  I also can not access the itunes store to see apps and what not.  I too am on Win 7 64 Bit running the latest version of 10.5.  I have tried deleting all backups and starting fresh, netsh winsock reset, and creating a new windows 7 account and trying to backup that way.  So far no luck at all.  I have also tried uninstalling all apple software and rebooting, then reinstalling.
I wonder if there is a beta version of itunes 10.5 that was less buggy we could use.  I am convinced the public release of itunes 10.5 is just not going to work for me.
I applied my windows updates yesterday when trying to get all of this to work.  It was not working so I thought you know what let me go ahead and install these updates still didnt work.  So I can say for me with or without windows updates it did not matter.
I also tried deleting the itunesprefs files in my user profile.  That did not work either.
Im out of ideas at the moment, I have sort of just told myself i better just accept that I will not have ios5 until apple releases a new version of itunes.  Ill update here if I find a solution or if I try anything else.

  • Brand "product red" nano will not show up in i-tunes

i have already been a nano user.
i bought the ipod 1 gig and never had any problems with it.
this year for chistmas my cousin got a new blue ipod nano.
she wanted to use my computer to take some songs- i had to download new (latest) itunes version for her new ipod.
even with the new version my own nano still worked.
i bought a new nano - the product red nano- over the internet through the apple store.
i plugged it to my computer thinking it would require usual walk through set up (name your ipod ,etc)
in itunes it doesnt even show the ipod as being connected.
THIS NANO IS BRAND NEW OUT OF BOX!!!!!!! WHY ISNT IS WORKING!!!
ANY FEEDBACK OR SHOULD I JUST GO THE APPLE STORE?

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
    Still no joy, see these.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.
    Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod</font color</a>.
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.
iPod does not appear in iTunes.

If none of the above help, it may need service or a trip to an Apple store.

  • TS2755 Why can't I send messages to someone who does not have an apple product from my new Ipad2?

I just got an Ipad2 and can not figure out why I can't send a message to someone who does not have an apple product. I can from my iPhone. When I enter there name it is shown in red with an ! Behind it and the word send does not light up.

You can text this person from your iPhone because you are using SMS over the voice cell network. There is no access to the voice cell network on the iPad, even if you have the WiFi+3G model.
There are some apps, such as TextFree, that will let you do this.

  • How much of the money i spend on the iPod nano goes to (product) red

I am planning on buying an iPod nano, so i would like to know how much of the money i spend is donated to (product) red?

It was $10 on the original Nano, and 50% of the profit on an iPod Touch. Can't find any newer information.

  • Is the product "red" nano supposed to be pink? I hope not. Please help

I just got mine and it's magenta..not red, I knew that it would be darker than the 2nd gen red nano(which I also have) but this thing is pink, it's not the same shade as the one on apple.com or in reviews. I really hope this is some kind of problem and not the the real color of this thing, I hate all of the other colors.
I expected it to look like this -
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipod/review/apple-ipod-nano-with-video-4gb-8gb/ P1
    Or this - http://reviews.cnet.com/portable-video-players-pvps/apple-ipod-nano-third/4505-6 499_7-32595968.html
It looks more like this - http://www.mobiletechreview.com/iPod/iPod-nano-3G.htm
    but still lighter and pinker,
It should look like this - http://www.apple.com/ipod/red/ - but not quite, has anyone else noticed this and can you compare how yours looks to the pictures that I posted?

I had a close look at my wife's (PRODUCT) RED one and it definitely more of a magenta, than a true red.
I put it next to my mother's hot pink shuffle however, and it is definitely "red" and not pink!
The photo on the iLounge website you used is defintely not the colour I have. The link to the Apple page is spot on colour-wise.
