Apple ProRes NTSC to PAL. How?

Hi.
I'd really appreciate some quick help.
How do I convert Apple ProRes HQ NTSC HD footage (29,97, 1280x720) into Apple ProRes HQ PAL HD footage (25, 1280x720) ?
In QuickTime / Final Cut Pro, there is no NTSC / PAL option for conversion.
How do I go about it?
Thanks in advance.

In Compressor's Settings Tab, select: Apple>Format>Quicktime>ProRes422 HQ
Duplicate the preset
With the duplicate selected, go to INSPECTOR
Select the ENCODER button, change the framerate to your desired outcome
Select the FRAME CONTROLS button, turn it ON and in the RATE CONVERSION section, select BETTER (Motion Compensated). Leave the other settings alone.
Save the settings and give it a useful name.
Drag the file you need to convert into the Batch window and apply the preset you just created.
Submit and life will be good.
It will be helpful if you read the Compressor manual. It is a very powerful app and understanding it will aid you in a whole host of ways.

  • FCP Apple PRORES 422 (HQ) setting-how to export?

I am importing and dropping in scanned images from the storyboard into FCP and then importting and placing on the timeline some digital animated images which have been done in the format 1920x1080 24fps. They have been put through shake and we chose the setting Apple PRORES 422 (HQ) which I have then set the FCP settings to match that. Everything works fine in Final Cut but then when I export the timeline to make it into a Quicktime movie, the digital animated shots dont play properly, they like skip frames. Do you know anything about this and how I get it to play smoothly? I have tried everything I can think of and nothing is working!

First off, ProRes HQ is VASTLY OVERKILL for converted flash video. That is for 10-bit high end formats. All you gain in using that over ProRes 422 is file size.
Second, 640x432 is a non-standard frame size. 640x480 is more like it, but really, FCP would like to see 720x480. ProRes doesn't really work in RT with the dimensions you have.
Convert the FLV to something like DV50 or just DV. but you have to get the right aspect ratio, or things will require rendering. Or better yet, get the MASTER footage, and not a flash video.

  • Apple TV NTSC vs PAL

If i buy Apple TV in the usa, is it compatible with the PAL system in Europe or does it work only with NTSC

As Chenks says it will work anywhere - remember the TV must have HDMI or component inputs,it has no S-video/SCART/composite out.
AppleTV outputs from 480i/p through 576 i/p up to1280p for menus though video is pegged at a max of 720p 24 fps.

  • Convert from ntsc to pal, how to get best results?

    Hi there.
I have some footage shot on NTSC that I need to convert to PAL with best possible results to be included in a documentary for tv. I undersatnd that it is possible just to select the material in a sequence, change the sequence settings and render. But is there a more satisfactory way to do it resulting in image quality.
    Any insights much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    -Tom

Use Compressor's "Advanced format conversions" instead. i.e., edit in NTSC, then export your NTSC sequence using compressor from FCP.... choose PAL as the format.

  • NTSC TO PAL USING FCE

NTSC TO PAL: (HOW TO?) I EXPORTED MY SEQUENCE USING DV-PAL ENCODING TO A QUICK TIME MOVIE, THEN IN IDVD, SET THE PREFERENCE TO "PAL" AND BURNED THE DVD. HOW DO I PROVE IT'S REALLY A "PAL" DVD? I CAN PLAY IT ON MY COMPUTER, AND THOUGHT IT WOULD NOT WORK UNLESS I USED A "PAL" DVD PLAYER! HOW DO I PROVE IT'S A "PAL" DVD???
    THANKS,

    STOP SHOUTING!
The only way you can prove it is to use a PAL DVD player. One problem is that most PAL DVD players will now play back NTSC, so even that's not proof positive.

  • DVD Footage for FCP Edit - how to tell if NTSC or PAL?!

Hi all, apologies if this seems like a stupid request but I have a job at the moment calling for me to extract footage from a DVD, edit in FCP, add a few bits from Motion etc., but I can't work out if the DVD is NTSC or PAL!
I intend to extract the video (no issues with copyright) via DVDxDVPro but am unsure if the DVD has been encoded in NTSC or PAL. The footage it contains is from both the States (NTSC) and South Africa (PAL) so how do I tell? I don't want to go through a standards conversion if I can help it.
I am keen to try to retain as much quality as possible (client can't provide tape) so also any thougts on the best output from DVDxDVPRo for FCP editing?
    Thanks all,
    Best wishes
    Michael

    Hi Thomas, that's it!
Thanks for this - it clearly shows the TV standard and the resolution plus 4:3 etc., so everything I needed for confirmation.
Glad I cheked because it was in Pal - thought the conversion in DVDxDVPro looked a bit ropey.
This realy baffled me - seemed so simple but couldn't find a way to tell the standard. Learn something everyday...
I am using DVCPro for export from DVDxDVPro - anyone thoughts on a better option?
Thanks again for the answer - and so quick on a Sunday too!
    Kind regards
    Michael

I often use my iPhone to take video but the result is NTSC and I use PAL, how I can change? Can somebody help me? Thanks

My problem is when I transfer the movie on Final Cut for the assembly of the film, I know that I can convert with MPEG Streamclip but I would like to take my film directly on PAL. Is that possible? In the previous message I wasn't clear, I hope now I explained myself better. Thanks for help

Im having a problem with the dvd quality, I'm using compressor to convert the video fils from apple prores to mpeg2 .It doesn't matter how long my video is even if its just 5 minutes  I'm getting cut edges/lines  in the video specialy if i have titles it comes up really bad , I took the same video to a friend of mine who have PC and he uses Encore , did the encoding there and it was just fine no problems! BTW I tried using doferent setings in compressor from CBR and VBR I even pushed up the setings to 8 or 9 BR and still no luck !
does anyone have any idea ?
    Thanks in advence ...

Let's focus attention on just the Sony. (What model and what resolution are you shooting?)
    For now, I'll assume you're shooting 1080i.
Take a representaive clip  into a new sequence. Add a title.
In your sequence, make sure field dominance is set to Upper.
Set render settings to Pro Res 422.
After rendering, export QT self contained.
Import into Compressor (I'm now referring to v3.5).
Select the 90 minute Best quality DVD preset.
Open frame controls and turn on (click the gear icon). Set Resize filter to Best.
Submit burn and check quality on TV.
    Good luck.

  • How can I change my iPhone 4S from NTSC to PAL?

Need help on how to switch my iPhone 4S from NTSC to PAL
since my iPhone is NTSC and my Car RADIO/DVD player PAL
I can hear the sound and the video/picture but unfortunately the video
    only in black and white!
    Help.....

If your iPhone is in good shape, you can trade it in at a Verizon Store for money toward a Verizon iPhone 4S (they start at $99.99) or you can sell it yourself, probably for a better price but more hassle.
    Best of luck.

  • Satellite P300-19P - How to change from NTSC to PAL?

Everytime I want to display on my TV I have to change the TV from PAL to NTSC as I can't find how to change the S-Video output on the laptop from NTSC to PAL.
    Does anyone know how to?
    Cheers.

    Hey,
Im not owner of Satellite P300 but either you can change this option in BIOS or in display driver. Normally there you have an option to change between PAL and NTSC on S-Video output.
    Check this!!!

Are you sure about that? Trying to get to the bottom of excessive picture noise issue I have (rented a HD movie and get a 'swimming pixel' effect).
I see from your signature you have 2 ATV's - are these 1st generation? I believe you have option to choose NTSC or PAL (60Hz Vs 50Hz) in settings with 1st gen device. This choice not available in the ATV2 as far as I'm aware. When I connect the ATV2 my 1080p LCD settings auto change to "1278x720 @ 60Hz" which suggest NTSC is default.
I'm not certain - but I think this maybe the cause of my picture noise. If this is the case then hopefully a firmware update may fix this.
Be sure to let Apple know:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
As you say the new unit seems to default to 720p 60Hz from what people can tell and there are no adjustments unlike the 1st gen.

  • Hi, how to transform a video file from Mark 5D iii into MVI_2500-Apple ProRes 422 for Progressive material.mov

Hi, how to transform a video file from Mark 5D iii into MVI_2500-Apple ProRes 422 for Progressive material.mov ?
Is it the best way to work with videos in Final Cut Pro?
    Thank you!
    Anastasia

Is your 5D media progressive from the camera? Simply use the optimize option when you import into FCP.

  • How Do I Edit Apple ProRes 422 HQ on my PC?

I've recieved some footage that I'm supposed to be editing, but all of is Apple ProRes 422 HQ and I've got a PC. Everytime I try to import the files into either Premiere CC or AfterFX CC the audio works, but the video is just a blank green screen. So my question is, how do I edit ProRes on my PC? What steps do I need to take to make it editable?

As Richard stated, just install Apple QuickTime, nothing to purchase. I've edited ProRes on several different PCs and never an issue (QT was already installed by default on those machines).

  • How can i export Apple ProRes files from AME CC running on Windows?

Hi the titles says it all really - i can't find any apple prores settings in Adobe Media Encoder CC and i need to export to this format. I thought that Adobe Premier Pro CC handled these files natively - is that niot the case?

Yes, you can import and edit ProRes media on Windows or Mac OS.
You can only export to ProRes on Mac OS.

  • Any successful NTSC to PAL conversions out there and how?

Hi all. I am using Compressor 2 and have yet to get a good NTSC to PAL conversion with the built in preset. I could use some suggestions.

If you are unhappy with the current results don't use the standard preset. Try one of the other frame control options that offer higher quality but with much longer processing times. Also, make certain that you have the latest Compressor updates, the last update had fixes for NTSC/PAL conversions.
Finally, you might want to try the freeware utiltiy JES Deinterlacer. JES does adaptive deinterlacing, inverse telecine, and NTSC/PAL conversion and many users seem to be happy with its results (and since it is a completely free download you can hardly go wrong).
