Apple remote changing computer screen

I live in a small apartment, the digital modem for my tv and computer are on one side of the living room, so both computer and tv on same wall. When using Apple remote to peruse through menu on tv, my mac brings up a seperate menu and peruses through as well. I will be watching something on the tv, and for example, a theatrical trailer for a movie will start playing on my computer (very annoying). Is there anyway to block the signal of the Apple TV remote to my mac? I can't seem to figure it out.

Nevermind. I found my answer on Google.

Apple Remote Desktop 3 screen sharing performance
Apple should licence citrix terminal technology to improve screen sharing experience and performance over low bandwidth connections like the internet.
ARD works very nice on LANs. But the screen sharing performance for remote offices really has to be improved. Look at Citrix and MS Terminal Server - these products work very snappy over low bandwidth connections like 3G UMTS or Cable, DSL.
Also adding the terminal server technology (multi user over network) to the OS would be great. Not only redirect the hole client screen - map a GUI user session over the network for an admin while the user on the client has his own usual local session.
The curtain mode is good beginning.
    Kind regards,
    Bjoern

    Hi,
I mean that MS Terminal Server is a completely different beast, because you don't transfer the whole bitmap here as VNC or ARD does.

  • Can Apple TV display computer screen on tv?

Can the Apple TV be used to display my computer screen on my tv? For instance instead of using the mini display port and having to run all the cables to my tv, can the apple tv take place of all that?

    No, afraid not.

  • Apple TV changed battery screen shows setting  time etc now it will not start

I had to change battery in remote (2nd gen apple TV) now it starts setting time etc screen is blank. I swithced it off waited 30 secs, no luck!!!!
I cannot go to menu as it does not allow me. Has anyone got any suggestions??

Here's what finally worked for me with Apple TV 3rd generation. Out of the box, when setup with wi-fi, it breezed through without any issue. As soon as I powered down and connected it to another tv (same wi-fi network), it got stuck at setting date/time. The remote would help in getting out of it, but the home would only have "Computers" and "Settings" and pretty much useless except for AirPlay. Here's what I did to resolve this:
    1. On your main router, temporarily disable the firewall or set it to the lowest setting allowable (a reboot of the router maybe required).
    2. Restart apple tv via the "restart" option in the "General" option in the main settings menu.
    3. It should breeze through and not show the "Setting date/time" screen.
    4. Once it loads up properly, turn on your fire wall as before  (a reboot of the router maybe required).
I think it worked for me out of the box, but auto-update to the latest software introduced this bug. So, everytime apple tv tries to synch with the time server, this issue will come back. To disable this, I turned off the "auto time synch" option in Settings -> General.
I am fairly confident that I'd be able to use steps 1 through 4 anytime this recurs. Possible scenarios causing recurrence of this issue:
    1. Unplugging the power to apple tv or power failures.
    2. OS updates.
    3. Restoring apple tv using "Restore" or via micro-usb and iTunes to the lastest OS.
Hope this helps. Please post if this works for you.

  • Startup takes forever, Apple Logo changes, Computer is slow.. help??

First off, I am sorry if this is in the wrong section. If so please forgive me.
Secondly, my macbook pro just started acting up a few days ago. The first day it started acting up it was running slow, and the spinning colorful wheel of death started spinning, and everything froze. So I restarted my laptop... The Startup would not pass the white screen with the apple logo and the spinning grey "circle". And then, all of a sudden, the apple logo turned into a "no" logo... like, a "non-smoking logo" but without the cigarette.
Over the pass several days, it has started up, but it is still slow.
I did repair disk permissions, nothing happened to help speed things up.
I tried resetting my RAM, however, since startup will not pass the white screen.
Now, it will not pass the white screen at ALL. And the logo always changes.
I feel like a brought this on, makes me mad if I did anything to make this happen!
Anyways, can anyone help? I am taking it to a ComputerTree tomorrow, cause the apple store is too far away. So if anyone can help before tomorrow/if anyone knows what the problem is... that would be great!!

First, if you don't already have current backups, make one immediately. Don't overwrite any previous backup. To do this, you have two options: (1) Boot from an external hard drive with a clean installation of Snow Leopard, or (2) if you have a Firewire port, start up in Firewire target mode (hold down the T key at the chime until the Firewire logo appears) and connect your Mac to another Firewire-equipped Mac using a FW cable. The internal drive will mount as if it were in an external enclosure. You can then back it up from the second Mac.
When you've done that, if your Mac came with Snow Leopard preinstalled, boot from the installation DVD that came with it, by inserting the disc, restarting, and holding down the C key until the Apple logo appears. If your Mac came with an older OS, boot from the retail Snow Leopard DVD you used to upgrade.
Once booted from the DVD, select Utilities > Disk Utility from the menu bar. Select the internal drive in the DU window, and click the button labeled "Repair Disk." If any problems are found, repeat until the disk comes up clean.
Finally, quit Disk Utility and run the installer. It won't overwrite your data. When it finishes, reboot as usual, and run Software Update to bring everything up to date. You may have to do this more than once to get all the available updates. If you're still unable to boot normally, try booting in safe mode (shift key down at the chime) to apply the updates.

  • Does Apple TV show computer screen in TV?

    Hello,
I want to show my MacBook Pro screen on a TV screen wirelessly.
    Can this be done?
I was hoping that the Apple TV would do that. Can it be done?
    Thanks,
    DAB

No out of the hoc ability to do this yet and it seems unlikely, not really the point of the device.
    Brian.

  • My Apple TV 5.0.2 (4250) changes the screen resolution every 10-15 sec. Is there a way to solve this problem?

Hi, My Apple TV changes the screen resolution every 10-15sec. The device is up to date and video setting are done correctly. It is connected to Philips 42pfl3507. What should I do to solve this issue?
    Thanks for your help.
    DucciP

This sounds like a problem beyond resolution.
I'd start by restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router.
If that doesn't help, try a restore.
    If the problem continues:
Check that the HDMI cable is correctly seated at both ends.
Try disconnecting the cable and connecting it again.
    Try another HDMI cable.
Make sure your TV supports 720p (Apple TV 2)
Try the Apple TV with another TV

  • Apple remote desktop will not show my  computer screen on class screens

    Hi
I hope someone can help. i have just set up a mac suite running latest OS X 10.10 using apple remote desktop. The system is a bit sensitive but mostly works fine. The odd computer drops off etc.
However, I want to be able to show the teacher computer on all of the class screens as the projector screen is quite small at the front of the class. When I set up screen share it says it is working but it does not show on their screens. They do get a screen sharing message on the menu bar of their computers but nothing happens. Am I missing a setting? I think I am doing right!
    thanks

    Hi jsyedu129,
Wondering if you found a solutions to your problem. I'm having the same problem. Can't not share my screen with classroom computers. Love to know if you have got this to work.

  • Apple Remote Desktop - connect to computer after their password changed?

I have a problem with Apple Remote Desktop which is driving me up the walls.
When I observe or control a computer, Apple Remote Desktop saves the username and password so that next time I'm not prompted for a username or password.
Problem is, when the password on the computer changes and I once again try to control it, Apple Remote Desktop simply comes up with an "authentication failed" message. There is no option to put a new username and password in. I cannot find any option to delete previously stored passwords.
    Currently I'm resorting to deleting:
    /private/var/db/RemoteManagement/ClientCaches
    /private/var/db/RemoteManagement/caches
It is extremely frustrating doing the above each time a computer's password changes!
I must be missing something. Does anyone have a better way of going about this?

    Hi Zachary!
Have a look at RealVNC at http://www.realvnc.com/download.html. Install this on your Windows computer and be sure to configure a password for VNC connections. You should then be able to see your XP system in Apple Remote Desktop.
Keep in mind that the VNC software is free (unless you choose to purchase a version with more features) but the Apple Remote Desktop client is a commercial product http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/.
If you need a different (free) client for your Mac, I suggest using the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client found here http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=remotedesktopc lient. This only works with Professional version of Windows XP and not the Home version. Or you can downlod a VNC client for Mac such as Chicken of the VNC found here http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/.
    Hope this helps! bill

My Apple TV responds to my remote by flashing, but nothing changes on screen. How do I fix it?

    Howdy there Nick,
    Greet
I would recommend these 2 troubleshooting steps.
First, reset the Apple TV with this process:
Restarting your Apple TV without a remote
You can also reset your Apple TV by unplugging it from the power source for thirty seconds.
From: Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): How to restart your Apple TV
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3180
And if needed, restore the apple tv with this article.

  • I want to be able to monitor my teen daughter's computer from home using screen sharing.  Anyone know how to set up screen sharing when my daughter's school has her computer set up for Apple Remote Desktop?

I want to be able to monitor my teen daughter's computer from home using screen sharing.  Anyone know how to set up screen sharing when my daughter's school has her computer set up for Apple Remote Desktop?

ARD won't be as smooth as you think  over the Internet and be a security risk for your daughter.
Your best bet would be to install nannyware, then when she's asleep you can review the logs.

  • How can I remotely access my computer from a different location on Apple Remote Desktop?

I downloaded Apple Remote Desktop and am trying to access our computer at our church that is in the auditorium and work on slides for ProPresenter from my office which is on a different network. The Mac Pro, which is in the auditorium, is connected to a Netgear wireless router. I would also want to be able to have access to observe and control the screen on the Mac Pro whether I am in my office or at my house. I have tried everything from going to portforward.com, followed those instructions, did port forwarding, used ipchicken.com to get my external IP and made sure that the Mac Pro had a static internal IP address and made sure the computer had access for remote management. Any help to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated! Works fine when it is on the same wireless network, but I need access being on a different wireless network. Thanks!

    Hi austinmac14,
So the steps listed bellow assume some things. They assume that the Airport Extreme Router your configuring is connected directly to the internet connection. And that the Airport Extreme is the only router between your computers and the internet.
That means we're talking about say a DSL modem plugged directly into the Airport Extreme, or a cable modem. in ether case, this assumes that said modem, is not acting as an internet router.
If your modem has multiple ethernet ports on it, or has a little antenna sticking out of it, then your modem is probable also a router, and these steps listed bellow will probable not work.
Also these steps are so one person, can connect to one computer at your work.
    Open Airport Utility:
    go to the dock
    Click on the finder
    go to the menu bar
    Click on the "Go" menu
Chose "Utilities" from the "Go" Menu
    double Click on "AirPort Utility"
    Access the Base Station:
Double Click on your Airport Extreme BaseStation that is your internet connection router.
a new window should pop up with your Airport Base Station as the Window Name
Configure Static Address for the computer you want to connect to via ARD:
Click on the internet Icon from the toolbar
    Click on the "DHCP" tab
For "DHCP Reservations:"  Click on the "+" button
    For the "Description" put "ARD"
For "Reserve Address by:"  set "DHCP Client ID"
    Click the "Continue" button
For "DHCP Client ID:" set "ARD"
write down the number in "IPv4" address field
    Click the "Done" Button
    Configure routing to ARD computer:
Click on the "Advanced" icon from the tool bar.
Click on the "Port Mapping" tab
    Click on the "+" button
for "Service:" Chose "Apple Remote Desktop"
for "Private IP Address:" copy the exact IP address you wrote down in step "3. 8)"
    Click the "Continue" button
    Click the "Done" button
    Click the "+" button
For the pulldown menu "Service:" Chose "Remote Apple Events"
for "Private IP Address:" copy the exact IP address you wrote down in step "3. 8."
    Click the "Continue" button
    Click the "Done" button
    Click the "+" button
For the pulldown menu "Service:" Chose "Remote Login - SSH"
for "Private IP Address:" copy the exact IP address you wrote down in step "3. 8."
    Click the "Continue" button
    Click the "Done" button
    Click the "Update" button.
wait for the Airport Extreme to update, and for your computer to reconnect to the airport extreme. (make sure you can load and browse websites.)
Configure the ARD computer to use the correct IP address:
Go to the computer you want to be able to remotely connect to
On that computer, Go to the menu bar
    Chose the "Apple" menu bar
    Chose "System Preferences…"
Click on the "Show All" button
    Click on the "Network" icon
For the active network connection, (the connection on the left side with the green dot), click on it
    Clock on the "Advanced…" button
    Click on the "TCP/IP" tab
for the "DHCP Cient ID: field put "ARD".
    Click the "OK" button
Click the "Apply" buttonNOTE: Under "Status" you should see "(connection name) is connected to (airport base station name) and has the IP address (IP address)." the "(IP address)" address displayed should match the IP address you wrote down in step "3. 8."
Find out what your public internet IP address is.
On the computer you wish to connect to over the internet, gotohttp://whatismyipaddress.com/
when the web page loads, you should see "IP Information:" fallow by a number like 192.168.0.1, write down what ever number it is.
At this point you should be able to connect to the computer remotely
connect to the internet from another location.
    open Apple Remote Desktop
    go to the file menu
chose connect to computer using ip address
set the address to the address to the IP address you wrote down for step 6. 2.
use the same password as you used to connect to the computer at work using ARD.
So here the catch. If your router gets reset... well then your going to have to configure it again. Also all the same rules you have to connect to the computer at work, also apply to connecting to the computer from over the local network. That means your computer need to be on or sleeping. And if it's sleeping it need to be configure to wake for network access.
Also some network connections change.  When it comes to internet connections, some connections are static IP, while other connections are DHCP. If your connection is static... great! if it's DHCP, your address may change. If it dose.. well then your ability to connect will break. And then you'd have to do step 6 & 7 again.
Of corse there are ways around this. But that's kind of another conversation.
Some internet locations may block your ability to connect to your computer at work. This is very common at schools, and companies. Basically any place that tries to control your ability to browse the internet, may block remote access to computers; because a remote computer would completely by pass their web filter.
ALSO there is an easier option. As far as setup. There are programs designed to make remotely accessing your mac as easy as possible. For instance there is LogMeIn or Slack. With both of these programs, it's simple. make sure your computer is always on. Then install the software. Create an account with the service. And then you can connect to the computer almost any where by going to their website.
This option requires no router configuration. It handles DHCP. It's designed to work in as many locations as possible.

As far as the flashing question mark and globe icons are concerned, your computer had lost track of its startup volume and was searching through the possibilities. The globe icon indicates that it is looking for a network to start from and the question mark indicates that it is looking for an OS X volume. To fix this, if you haven't already, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and reselect your internal HD as the startup volume.
From what you have described, this issue does seem to have corrected itself, and the faster start up is what one would normally expect. I think that you have absolutely no reason to reinstall your system.
