Apple remote control

I bought the apple remote control for my mac, but it's not working. I checked the systems preferences to enable the IR, but that option wasn't there.  I read that some macs don't have infrared option which is needed to use the control. The remote was advertised to work with macs - am I missing something???

The 2012 and 2013 iMacs do not have an IR receiver.
The 2011 iMacs were the last iMacs to have a built in IR receiver and IR remote control.
If you own an iDevice, there are apps that work either over WiFi or Bluetooth to control your iMac.
For another type of WiFi hardware device, look at these.

  • Apple Remote Control and Plex

Yesterday, I installed Plex to see if I would enjoy it as much as Front Row, which I use constantly. I haven't upgraded to Lion because I don't want to lose Front Row. Now, as a result, my Apple Remote control no longer works. I uninstalled Plex, but the remote still won't work. Any suggestions?

You might want to remove CleanMyMac. It has caused problems for many people by deleting files which ruined their OS.

  • Apple remote control and PB 17"

I have my laptop hooked up to my TV. I play quicktime and others video media though it to my TV. The Laptop is far from where i sit so to Fast Forward or pause or anything I have to get up and control it from the Laptop.
Is there a way to get the apple remote control to work with the PB 17" sonce it doesnt have a remote sensor like the new macbook pros do? Or any type of remote control or way to do this?
I want to be able to control the media from about 20 feet away (Lazy I know but in theis day and age... )
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Keyspan makes several remotes:

As for Front Row compatibility, I don't think that's there, because it would have to break the license from Mac OS X. Equinux makes a nice software like Front Row called MediaCentral:

  • Apple Remote controll doesn't work

    hi there.
I have read, that the Apple Remote Controll, that can be used for things like iPhoto & iTunes can also be used to controll Logic 8, starting and stopping playback ... .
Doesn't work at my system. Is there anything i have to setup? Have heared it should work by default.
    thx for help

    In iTunes 8:
Go into your iTunes preferences and select the Devices tab. Make sure "Look for iPhone and iPod Touch Remotes" is selected. If it already is, try clicking "Forget All Remotes"
    In iTunes 7:
Go into your iTunes preferences and select the Advanced tab. Select the General tab beneath it, and make sure "Look for iPhone and iPod Touch Remotes" is selected. If it already is, try clicking "Forget All Remotes"
You also want to be sure that both devices (the computer and the iPod) are connected to the same wireless network.

I was give an older Apple remote control to use on my MacBook Pro retinal. It is not a bluetooth one I guess ( white, smaller and black on tip).
    Can it be used?
I did not find any setting for it in system preferences.

Had not realy thought about using an iphone, ipod touch or a ipad!
Mostly a destop geek, except for a Asus laptop I use for church work.
Had a unfavorable experience with a bluetooth ear piece a few years back, started out ok then it always dropping connections, then dead to charge when I did need it..
Will have to set time to play I guess !
Thanks again to mende 1 and cbs 20 for your inputs and my education on the macbook pro and bluetooth.

  • OS X Lion and Apple remote control problem

After installing OS X Lion my apple remote control no longer works properly.  The menu wont come up on the screen, but it plays music if you press the buttons, but you are riding blind, can anyone help on this one?

It's not a problem with the remote, the problem is that Lion no longer has FrontRow.

  • Does the Apple remote control work with MacBook Pro with retina? If yes, how can I sync it?

Does the Apple remote control work with MacBook Pro with retina? If yes, how can I sync it?
    Thanks!

It should. First, turn on BlueTooth on the computer. In BT preferences be sure to check the option to look for all devices. Your remote should be picked up and a notice asking if you want to Pair it with the computer. Select Yes. Once it is paired it can be used to control your computer.

i have the new iMac with OS X 10.8.3 i want to conner it with apple remote control i don't know how

    I have a Mac Book Pro 2008
I have my MBP paired with Apple TV  and use it all the time
My only complaint is that when I use the Apple TV remote it sometimes turns things off and on in iTunes.
Besides all the options from Apple TV I can listen to anything on my mac over my TV surround system thru Apple TV

  • Apple Remote Control and Pismo

Here's one for you. Just bored at work, so I thought I'd throw this out there. While researching a way of using the Apple Remote Remote Control (IR) on a Mac Pro, by maybe hacking up an old broken Pismo and using it's sensor, I wondered if the remote would work at all on a Pismo via the built in IR sensor?. I know of the Manta TR1 solution, but don't care for it being external or using another USB port.
Can this work on a Pismo? Any hacks? Can a Pismo's sensor be used on a Mac Pro or is it built in in a way that it can't be re-used? Or are these two entirely different technology's?

    They are different.

  • Apple Remote controls iTunes, not Front Row

I've searched around for an answer to this and have had no luck. My Apple Remote is controlling iTunes - the play/pause button is playing and pausing, the up and down buttons are controlling iTunes volume, the left and right buttons are skipping tracks as expected, and the Menu button is pulling up the iTunes window. But I want the remote to open and control Front Row. Holding down the Menu button won't open Front Row, no matter how long I hold it. I can open Front Row normally through the Applications folder, but even when it's open, the Apple Remote doesn't control it - it still controls iTunes! Pressing play won't do anything in Front Row, but it will start a song playing in iTunes. The remote and my IR receiver are obviously working. How can I fix this?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If you use the Accounts System Preferences to make a brand new user, log out and log in as the new user, does the Apple remote work as expected with Front Row? If so, then you have some kind of preference or setting that's blocking the remote in Front Row. If it doesn't work for the new user, then you have a system-wide or hardware problem.

  • Turn off apple remote control from my macbook pro

How can I turn off my remote control from remoting both apple tv and myc macbook pro at same time. I just want to remote my apple tv.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you want, you can disable the IR port in order to be able to stop control your computer with the Apple Remote. To do it, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > Advanced, and mark "Disable remote control infrared receiver"

  • Apple remote controls  TV when I want it to just control Macbook

    Hello all,
I have searched everywhere and could not find an answer to this problem.  I have an Apple TV 2 and I have the remote that came with it.  I have that remote (silver) controlling the TV just fine (and only the TV).  However, read carefully now, I have one of the older controllers (white) and I want it to control my Macbook ONLY.  The white controller controls both the TV and the Macbook.  When I go to settings on the Apple TV to unpair the white remote, all that does is unpair the silver remote.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Pairing a remote to a device ensures that that remote is the only remote that will operate that device (that's not the same as that remote only being able to operate that device). If the remote that operates the Apple TV also operates the MacBook, you need to pair the remote that comes with the MacBook with the MacBook.
Take the remote, hold it close to the MacBook, hold down the menu and forward buttons down together for 6 seconds until the display displays the paired symbol.
Do the same with the remote for the Apple TV (but point at Apple TV), if you want your Macbook remote to only control the Macbook.

  • Can you use the apple remote to control tv programs?

Can you use the apple remote control like a tv remote to control tv programs & DVDs on the computer? Everything I've found about the Apple Remote talks about using it for products other than desktops. I watch some regular tv shows on my iMac & would like to be able to use a remote control.
    I have a built-in infrared receiver.
    Thanks!

You should be able to control DVD playback now with the Apple Remote. You may be able to get a bit of functionality with web sites by using Remote Buddy by using it as a virtual mouse and keyboard:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/21872/remote-buddy
but you're not going to get anything close to the sort of functionality you'd get with a remote and a TV.
