Apple Remote Desktop Agent (ARDAgent) Will not repair?

I had this problem before in 2010, which really annoyed me. It was thankfully resolved when I cleaned installed and upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion.
Now I find the problem re-occuring on my daughter's MacBook Pro which is running the latest OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3) and the dreaded message is:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
There was also a long list of permissions the would not repair below the SUID Warning.
I removed the ARDAgent app and replaced it with an update. After this I "Restarted" and did a "Repair Permissions", again I got the warning but all the other permissions were repaired.
I again replaced the ARDAgent app with the latest version and re-installed it. The warning stil remains!
I am in the camp that believes a warning is there for a purpose and I want to be rid of it!
The MacBook does run a bit slugishly aswell.
My daughter, who is 10, is a regular user of Club Penguin and makes little music videos using IMovies which I encorage.
She does make ample space on her Mac by regularly removing or saving files to an external hard drive.
But the combination of Club Penguin and iMovies tend to create a corruption of disk permissions.
Has anyone any ideas of how to sort this out. I have a very upset young film maker who is trying use her MacBook which seems to be fighting her all the way????
Any advice would be welcome?

Despite the "ARDAgent.app" SUID Warning message being reportedly "normal", I also see what may be a similar set of "long list of permissions the would not repair below the SUID Warning", pasted below (sorry if it's too long for local etiquette). This is 10.7.5 on a MacBook Pro 15-inch, Early 2011.  Supposedly unrelated to this, but mentioned here here anyway because most of these unrepairable permissions seem to relate to the display, is that I also seem to have a version of the infamous black-screen bug -- (only) when I disconnect a second display (VGA projector), the upper-left 3/4 of the screen goes permanently black, and I have to reboot.  I've read on another blog that this is believed to be a subtle hardware bug on the logic board that is invoked only by 10.7 (Lion).

  • Apple remote desktop will not show my  computer screen on class screens

    Hi
I hope someone can help. i have just set up a mac suite running latest OS X 10.10 using apple remote desktop. The system is a bit sensitive but mostly works fine. The odd computer drops off etc.
However, I want to be able to show the teacher computer on all of the class screens as the projector screen is quite small at the front of the class. When I set up screen share it says it is working but it does not show on their screens. They do get a screen sharing message on the menu bar of their computers but nothing happens. Am I missing a setting? I think I am doing right!
    thanks
    Tim

    Hi jsyedu129,
Wondering if you found a solutions to your problem. I'm having the same problem. Can't not share my screen with classroom computers. Love to know if you have got this to work.

  • Apple Remote Desktop not connecting to O2 Wireless Box

I've successfully got Apple Remote Desktop to connect to, view and control various Macs connected to numerous routers.
But the O2 Wireless Box doesn't want to play ball and I simply can't figure out why it won't allow me to connect.
Using http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/O2/O2-TG585v7/Apple_Remot e_Desktop.htm as a guide (this was the only O2 router it referred to), I'm forwarding ports 3283, 5900 & 5988 but I simply can't connect using Apple Remote Desktop via the Internet.  It just sticks on 'Connecting...' and then goes to a failed message.  It suggested that, perhaps, Remote Desktop isn't enabled on the other machine ... but it is.
It seems to be something very odd about the router (it doesn't even allow remote management of the router as O2 removed that functionality fearing it was 'too dangerous' to allow the end user access to this) and I'm wondering whether there's something else I need to do to make the connection.
Can anyone give me as guidance on this please?  It's driving me crazy!

    Hi Jason,
It is often difficult to explain a problem, so don't worry. Let's break it down.
Firstly, does ARD work when you are at your place of work? - can you control a mac?
    If so, this is good.
Ok, from work you need to access your router and find your public IP address, you only have one. You will often find this is the status page.
The IP is usually a class A address starting with 80 or 90, but this obviously isn't always so, depending on your ISP and region. make sure you are not using the router's local lan IP! You will also need to make sure your home router is allowing ARD ports through!
You now need to port forward the ARD ports to the mac you want to control, which I believe you have done. For example, port 3283 > IP address of remote mac.
I know when I did this, I just opened up all ports for a couple of minutes just to get it working, then I locked access down. If you havn't done so then you need to enable remote management on your work router so you can configure it at home.
On your mac at 'home' open ARD, and go to file> add by address and enter the PUBLIC IP address. You will also need to enter the admin user name and password for the said mac.
That's it, you should have control.
If your macs at work and home have a firewall enabled then you will need to update your rules.
    Good luck!

  • Apple Remote Desktop installation serial number is not saved.

I upgrade my Imac and used the Migration Assistant to move the data and the applications. All went well, all applications were moved to the new machine and seem to work properly Except the apple remote desktop.
The problem is when I run Apple RD3, I get a dialog box requiring the serial number which I entered . The Remote desktop then works properly until I close it and then the next time when I try to run the program the same dialog box requests that I re-enter the serial number. The setup process does not maintain that the serial number has been installed.
I hoping that someone will help in resolving this issue.
Thank in advance for any info.
    Michael

After searching forum more I was able to resolve this problem by deleting the
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist file
The next launch of the RD3 I had to enter the SN again, but this time it worked and remember that it has been done already

why is it not possible to install apple remote desktop (from appstore bought earlier) on my new imac 21?

hello Dahveed, thanks for your reply, i solved it with the help of the migration assistant from another mac - now it works (but before as more info: for my new imac it was not possible to install apple remote desktop from appstore (the install-button not available, the same as installed already...) - and i don't know why...? - is it possible that the reason is the number of owned macs?)

Work with and store the documents on DropBox or something similar. It's free for DropBox. All you need after that is access to the internet and regardless of where you are and what you're using you have access to your documents.

  • Apple remote desktop not working

    Hi ikarous79,
If you are having issues with Apple Remote Desktop under Mavericks, you may want to make sure you have updated to ARD 3.7, which was just released recently. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Apple Remote Desktop Not Listed in Sharing

    Hey everyone,
I'm trying to enable a laptop with the apple remote desktop service so i could connect to it from my computer. I have done this with other computers in the office and each of them had "Apple Remote Desktop" listed in the Sharing left-side pane under "Service" but this one doesnt.
    How do i add it?
    im fairly new with ARD...
    cheers.

If the system is Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, the item will be titled "Remote Management" in the Sharing preference.

  • Apple remote desktop 3.7.2 has update that can not install. Product was purchased as shrink wrap

I have just updated to Yosemite on my 2009 MBP and am informed that I have an Apple Remote Desktop update to apply in the App Store.
Product was purchased as shrink wrap a few years ago with 3 user licences. However I can't apply the update
Looking at the version numbers they seem the same at 3.7.2
How can I get this updated so I am not pestered in the App Store?

I was able to download the ARD 3.5.2 Client and take the customisations from the generated custom client installer.
To do this you need to expand the Custom Installer to a directory somewhere (in this example I'll expand it to a directory on the desktop)
    pkgutil --expand CustomClientInstaller.pkg ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller
Inside the expanded package, there are 3 files which are appended with "_entries" which seem to contain the customisations that are specified during the package generation process. So, we need to copy these to a temporary location...
    cp ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools/*_entries ~/Desktop
Now, what we need to do is expand the ARD Client we just downloaded (3.5.2) and apply the customisations to it...
    pkgutil --expand RemoteDesktopClient.pkg ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient
    cp ~/Desktop/*_entries ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools
    pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient CustomRemoteDesktopClient.pkg
You should now have an up-to-date customised ARD client. Note that I have not fully tested all of the options, such as creating users. It may be necessary to look at this post if the newly customised ARD client has problems creating a new user.
    Hope that helps

  • Apple Remote Desktop not connecting

I have set up new iMac with OSX.8.3 and released the remote administration as I did before on many other devices.
In the Apple Remote Desktop window I can see the computer and it presents itself as any other computer also, to which I have access to (available, current user etc)
However, when I try to connect I get in the LAN immediately "connection failed".
From outside via VPN I get this message:
Please make sure that the remote administration (in System Preferences "Shares") is enabled on the computer to which you want to connect. Also make sure that your network connection is working correctly.
Here, after all, is an indication, albeit an improper. I can see the computer in the list of the ARD window and that it is available. But cannot connect either
I have tried with and without firewall, with no success. In addition, in the firewall the Remote Administration is enabled.
I am little perplexed. (With TeamViewer I can connect)

Thanks a lot for your help

    Yes it is
on the new imac, have you verified remote management is enabled?
Yes I did (the computer IS visible in the Remote Desktop list, I can see what app is running, which user account is active )
if no, have you tried enabling it? (apple menu, system preferences, show all, sharing, check remote management)
    its correctly done
If yes, have you tried unchecking it, and then re-checking it?
    Will try it
if still no, is the user your try to connect with listed in remote management?
Yes it is listed (however I checked the option for all user)
if so, what about deleting and then re-adding the user your try to connect with?
    Will try that
if no, what about adding the user to the list?
I was creating already a new user, no improvement
while connected to the same lan as the imac. Have you tried deleting the computer record for the imac from your ARD, and re-adding the client?
    Will try that
Is both computers connect to the network the same way? if so, what are the IP address you get on both computers?
yes they are. We have manual attributed IPs in the same range

  • Apple Remote Desktop 3.7.1 Install not validated by App Store

I'm writing this incase anyone else happends to find them selves in a similar situation.
Problem: Upgrading to Mavericks forced an upgraded to Apple Remote Desktop 3.7.1. Whatever links it had to purchased apps in the App Store were broken and I was prompted by a registration window when I opened the ARD.
Solution: I copied Apple Remote Desktop 3.7 from my MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8  and replaced the effected copy instaled Mavericks upgrade. For whatever reason this corrected the issue updated the copied 3.6.1 ARD app to 3.7.1 and repaired the App Store purchased links.

I agree the new Remote Desktop 3.7.1 is very laggy. All my machine are up to date with patch, same issue..
