Apple Restore Bricked my iPodTouch

I attempted to clear my iPodTouch of all data and settings by using Restore. It downloaded some S/W and then half did something and then fell over. "Could not Restore etc etc " with the final error code : 0xE800006c was the result.
The item is sitting here with the charging screen showing (part way) and is completely unresponsive. Of course if I could disconnect the battery then I might make progress - but apart from waiting till the battery runs out and/or throwing at the wall - what other options might there be ?
Thanks.

An hour or so later I saw that it had screen blanked. The device wanted to connect to iTunes, so I did so and it seemed that it had after all done what it was supposed to !
All the memory was accessible and the iPod name was available to be changed.
Ha.

  • HT6055 Request to Apple: restore support for older codecs

I used Quicktime extensively for my research before upgrading to Mavericks, and now that these older codecs have been removed, none of my experimental videos taken over the past 5 years will play in Quicktime. This is extremely disappointing.
I'd like to gather as much user support as possible to request that Apple restore support for these older codecs.
PLEASE RESPOND ON THIS THREAD BY ADDING YOUR REQUEST FOR APPLE TO RESTORE SUPPORT FOR OLDER CODECS.
FYI, my video files were .avi format, recorded by a Nikon D300s and a Zeiss EVO 55 scanning electron microscope.

Some things can be converted without transforming the data.  I have data in Excel spreadsheets that is identical to the data in the Lotus Symphony spreadsheets in which I entered the data in 1986.  Converting video does involve data transformation which is undesirable unless it comes to a point where it is unavoidable. Speaking as a research scientist, one is obligated to try to preserve original data to a reasonable extent.  In this case the video is not "dead".  It can still be played.  It's just Apple's behavior that anything older than about 4 years is old-fashioned and to be forgotten that's mandating stepping outside Apple software to do so.  Yes, it would be a good idea to convert so when future upgrades mean no old codecs will play at least the data are available to some degree.  I still would not get rid of the old files since they are the original data, and if the person spends 30 seconds installing VLC player they can still view the original data for another 10 years at least (if they keep the computer that long -- my computer is 12 years old and I can still run applications on it dating from the early 1990s).
By the way, you can still buy VHS players.  I agree they will not be around forever, and if it's a family video you want to play 20 years from now then you may as well convert it now, but then that's not research evidence.
Optical media are dead at Apple, but still extensively used outside Apple.  I agree in 20 years it will be hard to find a DVD player but visit right now any store selling movies or music, or a public library, and optical media are still around.  Apple can force the issue where their hardware is involved, especially as regards to installing Apple software, and of course by pushing online media sales (if you buy from the iTunes Store, which I don't).

  • Can apple fix my broken ipodtouch 4g if you can hear the sound but the screen doesnt show

can apple fix my broken ipodtouch 4g if you can hear the sound but the screen doesnt show

They will not fix it. What they do is replace rather then fix.
After Apple has examined it, they will determine if it is covered by warranty or not. If it is not, you will have to pay for the replacement.

  • 6.0 upgrade left apple tv bricked

My upgrade left my Apple TV bricked.  The Apple store could not get it to respond even using micro usb.  It is out of warranty and want me to pay $59 to replace it.
I believe they broke it they should replace it.  Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check that you have correctly followed the instructions for your model of Apple TV.
If not already, try using a powered USB port.
Repeat the process but this time try connecting the cable while iTunes is closed.
Repeat the process with another cable.
Some have reported that their device has been exchanged even though it was out of warranty. You can only ask.

  • Apple Confirms BRICKED iPhone(s) [Restore Mode Error]

Well this is the end of the problem I had from yesterday if some of you were around yesterday you might have seen my posts about taking the 2.1 update causing a RESTORE MODE error on my phone.
APPLE employee 'COLIN' and his manager which WILL REMAIN nameless confirmed when i brought my phone in that yes this infact does happen to multiple people. infact it happened to the manager himself of this washington apple store.
In conclusion If you have an error that causes your phone to be in a restore state and black screens on bootup with a iTunes symbol and USB cable, making sure ALL iTunes software should be properly updated fully before trying to reset to factory settings.
This problem was resolved and was just letting everyone know if this error occurrs to you it's fixable by apple or yourself with iTunes. Thank you all for you help, and tips it made this proccess alot smoother.

This happens to me whenever I do an update or restore. I just move the USB cable to another port until I get one that works.

  • Apple TV bricked after v6.0 Update Help Requested

My AppleTV was working before the v6.0 update. When I updated it I noticed it took a long time. It seemed to go ok but it then rebooted and showed to connect to iTunes. Never saw that before so I did a little Googling to figure out what was the cause. Looking around it seems this has happened before so I connected it to iTunes and tried to restore it no such luck.
So then I have tried restoring it across 4 different PCs and none were able to restore it. So now my question is I know its out of warranty but Apple's update is what messed it up. I had no issues before that. Am I screwed?
I made a Genius Bar appointment for Wednesday but Apple TV was not listed as a reason so I picked iPhone and explained in the notes what the issue is. Do you think they will let me try one of the Macs there to see if that will work for a restore or at least offer a replacement? Had it failed on its own I would think nothing of it and would never dream of asking for a replacement but their update is what killed it I think the responsibility lies on them. Even more proof in that it is their issue they pulled the update.
On the more technical side here is the PCs I used for the restore:
    Windows 8 Desktop
Windows 7 Desktop (Disabled Security Essentials)
    Windows 8 Laptop
Windows 7 Desktop (Fresh Box nothing installaed except iTunes)
I tried the latest version of iTunes and version 11.0 and same issues. All fail when it gets to Preparing Apple TV for Restore it sits at this for quite a while and then gives me several different errors. The most common across all machines was 1611. Which I read was a security software issue. Thats why I used a fresh Windows 7 system with Windows Firewall disabled and I still received the same error.
I notice that when restoring on the PCs that at first the power indicator on the AppleTV flashes rapidly and then when it gets to preaparing AppleTV for restore it flashes much slower until it fails and then it goes back to flashing quickly. Not sure what this indicates but thats what happens. I am sure there are details I am missing please feel free to ask and I will provide any information to help us solve this. Thank you.

    Peter,
So I just went and got a Micro USB cable of completely different make from one of my Co-Workers and followed this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367
My AppleTV does not show up in the iTunes list at all with just the Micro USB cable and it is the 720P version Apple 2.
    ****EDIT****
Spoke to soon I left mty AppleTV connected to the PC as I was typing it and it just now showed in iTunes with just the USB cable connected. It is now restoring as we speak. Thay article needs to be changed to reflect that the AppleTV 2 can take several minutes to appear in iTunes. Thank you sir very much appreciated.

  • Apple tv bricked by update v7

Trying to update my Apple TV 3rd gen, rev 2 (A1469 - AppleTV3,2 - MD199LL/A) to Apple TV 7, the update failed. Now I need to restore my Apple TV via iTunes. But the so-called "micro USB" connector on the ATV is different from any other micro USB cables that I have.
Where can I get the correct cable, and how do I specify it to be sure I'm not getting yet another micro USB cable with the wrong size USB connector?
BTW, I tried to make a Genius Bar reservation, but (due to the iPhone 6 rollout) they're booked for days.

Standard microUSB which are data/power capable work. If there are proprietary modifications or they are power-only, they will not work.
Do the same cables allow you transfer images from cameras for example? If yes, they are both data and power capable.
If you have an Apple Store close by, you can try and reset it there, otherwise you will need to get a cable that works.

  • That Free U2 Album that Apple pushed bricked my iPad

I HIGHLY RESENT the Hubris of Apple for pushing this or any other lousy Music Album to our iDevices. I deleted all purchased songs from my iPad, but the only ones I could not deletion after they auto-downlaoded, we the U2 ones. So i went to 'Settings' and deleted 'MUSIC,' but ONE U2 song is still showing in there. So I rebooted and...it bricked my iPad. Dead in the Water. This, after spending about 2 hours of MY LIFE dealing with something I didn't cause. Guess what Apple - I will not purchase any more Music from iTunes, will forego the iPhone6 I was going to Upgrade to, and I now have NO TRUST in APPLE !!!

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
If by 'bricked my iPad' you mean that it's not turning on then have you tried a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds.

  • Can you help me? iPhone 5 stuck on apple restore screen

My phone just stopped working randomly two days ago, sice then i've been looking for solutions and haven't found any. Sometimes itunes will say the phone can't be restored with different error codes everytime, or it will get to the screen where there's a white line indicating the pace of the restore, but it will stay at 0% for however long i let it sit there before hard resetting it. Any ideas?
