Apple royally screwed up
JUst wondering if there is any talk or if anyone else out there thinks apple royally screwed up quicktime pro with the release of version 10?
I seems to me to be the worst release since version 1.
Your question is misplaced as there is no pro version of Quicktime 10.
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded.
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".

Coreservicesd crash (com.apple.LaunchServices) screws up most running apps
I've been seeing crashes in the coreservicesd process that screw up most running apps and force me to restart the entire machine. When this happens, the Dock disappears and then reappears showing no running apps. The menu bar also gets stuck on a single app, even when I try to switch to another window with the mouse. The symptoms are very similar to those described at http://discussions.apple.com/thread/3289125, but I am on a MacBook Air running Lion 10.7.1.
Here's what gets logged to the system console:

Dumas at Apple iTunes Screwed-UP Update
Trusted Apple iTunes Update and totally Screwed Up my Windows 7 with numerous errors!
Tried reinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling, suggessted fixes and NO GO!
Restored Windows 7 to date prior to update now Win 7 works but iTunes still not working!
I CAN live without iTunes!!!Hello BaddApple1,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing the latest iTunes update. It certainly can get frustrating when experiencing issues with iTunes. I recommend following the steps below:
Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
I understand that you have already uninstalled iTunes, but when you get to this step, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.
You can find the full article here:

Did the last Apple update screw up your computer?
The last two Apple software updates seemed to have screwed up my computer. After downloading and installing the last one (which included an update to iTunes), I could not turn on iTunes - it just made my computer freeze up. I could not shut it down the regular way. So I pressed the power button for 5 seconds, which turned the computer off finally. Then let it sit for 30 seconds. And when I went to turn it on - the computer got to the gray screen and just hung there. I finally had to press the power button for 5 seconds to shut it down so I could hook up my external hard drives and boot from there.
Tried to see if I could boot from the internal HD - it froze again. Tried to run Disk Utility, which recongized the hard drive under the name I gave it - and it was mounted. After running Disk Utility, the internal drive is no longer showing up on my desktop. It does show up in Disk Utility and in Drive Genius but will not mount.
I should also mention that my keyboard and trackpad stopped working after the last update. I have been using an auxiliary keyboard and trackball for years, and have no problem with them now.Can you boot a clone/DVD copy of OS X without input problems?
If so, I just think you have a failing HD. Usually, Apple updates don't go around completely messing up the OS. Try to backup what you can if you think that way, too.
Is there any other weird behavior when booting the clone?
Any weird noise from the internal drive?
PS: I just cancelled downloading the updates -
I got a new computer and I ma trying to migrate everything over.
My old setup I had half my photos on an internal drive and half on an external drive.
I hooked up my external drive to the new computer and everything synced up very well. Everything on the external drive showed up.
I decided to move the files from the internal drive to the external one since it worked so well just like the lady in the adobe.tv said to.
When I tried moving the files to the external drive the computer died 10 minutes into the move. so now i have 1/4 of the files on the external drive and 3/4 are still on the internal drive.
I finally got all the files to the external drive but all the folders are screwed up. Some photos are in the wrong folders and there are two folders for some projects. NOW i cant simply just direct lightroom to the new location because of all the folder discrepancies.
Where do i go from here. Do I just import the folders again? Do I just import everything on the drive? Do I make a new catalog?Step 1 is to clean up the external HD and get the folders as they should be. Only after that can you think about what you might do with LR.
At that point, you should be able to open the LR catalog and reconnect the "missing" files. -
i get the message cant be played without windows seven or hdmc format essentially so i cant watch my movies it works perfectly fine i just cant afford windows seven or a new computer and mine runs great
In order to get those to work you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
and in the UK:
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard, preferably the full 10.6.8 combo updater. -
I doubt anyone who matters will actually read this, but right now I'm p*ssed that I spanked a load of cash on a 4th gen iPod, a nano and eventually a 5th gen iPod ... only to get this iTunes 7 trash ruining everything. F**K KNOWS what happened to your developers, testers, product managers - and everyone else who are supposed to prevent bugridden software like this ever being released. This mess had better not happen again.
The only support I can find is on these discussion boards. I synced the phone and left the update running last night and went to sleep. I awoke to find OS4 installed but had a backup error. I had to go to work so I shut down iTunes and headed out. This morning I learned that none of my purchased apps would run and all of my music was gone. So, I came home and chose the restore function. It wiped and reloaded OS4. Now it won't sync properly with iTunes (keeps getting errors and failing).
Furthermore, I refuse to pay more for support to make my phone work. Apple should make this right and offer free support to people having trouble.
I would have stayed on 3.1.3 if I had known this would be the result. -
Using apple Royality free music for short film...
Does anybody know that if I use a track from apples royalty free music library in soundtrack, do I have to put it in the credits where the track came from. And what should I put? The track name and courtesy of apple or something like that?
Thank you so much for your help! You might consider contacting [Associated Production Music|http://www.apmmusic.com/pages/faq.html] and asking them. There's nothing in Apple documentation that addresses this.

Apple Update screwed up my boot camp installation
Hey all -- I just installed boot camp 2.0 via Leopard (fresh, not an update) for the first time the other day. I installed XP SP2. For the first day or two, everything worked fine. Then I got a popup notice from Apple Update that offered updates for Quicktime, iTunes and Apple Boot Camp Drivers. I accepted the updates, and then afterwards things started going haywire. Now I can't use Firefox at all. It won't connect to any websites. Internet Explorer will get on the internet, but won't allow me to use any services where I have to sign in, such as this support site, iGoogle, etc. It even refuses some connections from various websites when trying to download other drivers. I've lowered all the privacy and security restrictions and turned off all anti-virus and firewall programs and still nothing. Apple Update won't even work anymore. Also, now my audio will only come out of my internal speakers, whereas before I had no problem with plugging in my old Creative Labs speakers into the rear audio line out port and getting audio through them. This is really, really frustrating. I hate Windows in general, but this is really making me start to dislike Apple too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I would try reinstalling the Apple drivers off of the Leopard CD, but if you can, back up any application data you want. In the end you may have to reinstall Windows.

Apple really screwed the pooch with IOS 6 and iPad wifi
Around 7 PM EDT my IPad 3 disconnected wifi. Every time I tried to restart it I went to some sort of page at Apple which told me the page (whatever it is) couldn't be found and turned off wifi.
I'm really ****** that Apple has demonstrated - intentionally or not - that they can brick our Apple products whenever they feel like it.
So much for not worrying about Apple products or software.
No way will I even look at the iPhone 5 now!I really hope these bugs are temporary because I really liked iOS 5 and on paper iOS 6 seems so much better but bugs are just ruining the experience.

I'm Royally Screwed. Loaded Microsoft XP today and IMAC won't open
I just got my IMAC today with the OS X (10.5.2) version on it. I followed the instructions to the "T" regarding using bootcamp to load my new Windows XP SP2, like it wanted.
Now, the computer won't logon to either MAC or WINDOWS.....instead it gives me a black screen and says something along the lines of "Hit any button to continue, then it locks up with an error message". The only thing I am able to do and know to do is hold the OPTION button when it's loading (Oh by the way, the computer freezes and I have to shut it off by the button, depressing 5-6 seconds to get it to reload".
If I shut it off and hold the option button, it will let me choose MAC or WINDOWS, but only MAC will load. Trying to load WINDOWS results in the same error message.
In short, I can't turn on the computer without holding the OPTION key to give me the choose, and the only choice that works is MAC.
Please help.Hi and welcome to Discussions,
when you have booted into OSX go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and choose your OSX partition as the default startup.
Do the needed restart and your iMac should boot into OSX without the Option key.
As for your Windows installation: was it ever successful or did the black screen error message came up during installation ?

Also, I did a backup on iTunes before the upgrade but after the upgrade completed, it performed a backup that overwrote the last one I did. At least I think it did, there is only one backup showing up in the MobileSync-Backup folder on my computer. Also, in iTunes on the bottom of the screen, the bar that shows how much storage space is being used by what, its number of pics is several hundred more than the number of pics on my phone. The ones it didn't erase were in a different album that I had uploaded from my computer (ironic that the pics that I didn't lose in the upgrade, I already have copies of on my computer). Anyhow, I used a trial version of recovery program called Wondershare Dr.Fone for ios, and while I'm definately not here to promote them, after it did the scan on my iphone, it showed thumbnails of all the missing photos, along with everything else I'd ever done on my phone lol. So I do know they are in there, I just can't afford to pay $70 to retrieve them, nor do I think I should have to as the upgrade caused them to be missing! Does anyone know of a free recovery tool? I never used iCloud, so that is not an option either.

Royally screwed up my startup disk... can anyone help?
I have been playing around a little too much with my new OSX to make it as efficient as possible. So, when I went to Disk Utility and saw "erase free space" on Harddrive. My brain (which is not as efficient nor as intelligent as my MAC brain) read it as "Erase all the junk I don't need and increase memory" So... I clicked and watched for over an hour as my computer erased all my zeroed out all my "free space". I'm not even sure why erasing free space is an option, but that is neither here nor there. Now I have a beautiful new Mac that runs as quickly as a 2GS. Not good........ Short of a complete re-installation, is there anything I can do to restore her back to the fantastic abilities she came with a week ago? Thank you!!!!!
~KHi K;
I agree with Hyphen that erasing free space should not have had that effect. We need to get to the bottom of this.
How much free space do you have available?
Do you have file vault turned on?

Royally Screwed -- please help
Hi Finally got an email back from SAP for renewing license for ABAP NW2004S system NSP.
This came back as a text attachment with a HUGE long Key
I deleted the temporary license and tried to install the new one
I point to the license text file I got with the email (NSP.txt)
Then get message
The License key library has not been initialized yet !!!
The text message I get from SAP is

If I try via the install new license panel I get a propmt for the Key but how can I generate a key from the text file shown above.
I'm sure I MUST be doing something wrong --it shouldn't be this complicated to get a system to work properly.
CheersHello,
I've searched for your error message <i>The License key library has not been initialized yet</i> and found the following thread --> Sneak Preview WEB AS ABAP 2004s - Single sign On
The solution there was the following:
<i>I corrected the problem adding a "\" in the system profile (RZ10) to the following parameters:
ssf/ssfapi_lib = $(DIR_CT_RUN)\sapsecu.dll
sec/libsapsecu = $(DIR_CT_RUN)\sapsecu.dll</i>
Hope it helps.

BootCamp partition royally screwed up - blue screen in Windows, appears empty in OSX
Howdy there,
Well for over a year now I've been happily using BootCamp on my 2010 13in MacBook, first with XP and then 7 64bit. Then yesterday all of a sudden when I went to boot up in Windows, I got the blue screen of death and then a message telling me Windows files are missing. Rather than go through all Windows ******** restore hoops to get it working again, I figured I'd copy the important files to my Mac partition for safe keeping and wipe out BootCamp and start again, since I wanted to change the partition size anyways. However once booted in Mac, I found the BootCamp partition showed up empty, and I can't do anything with it in Disk Utility. When I click "restore files" in Windows, the C drive (BootCamp) doesn't even show up so I can't do anything to it in Windows.
What on earth happened to it? I would really like to get my files back. I was using SL-NTFS to enable read/write on it. Could that have done something? I tried deleting it, but the BootCamp partition is still the same. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. One backup drive is not enough, minimal, maybe. One for Windows, a clone backup Mac, and TimeMachine.
Consider a new backup drive with Lion installed, Lion Recovery and System partition, then 'shrink' the Lion partition to make room for backup volume.
Lion Disk Utility can help edit, manage, inspect the health of all the hidden and user partitions.
Check partition table health in Lion's Disk Utility
Microsoft Security Essentials and IE9 offer good solid protection, no need but you may want to look into Kaspersky. But even KIS users seem to somehow manage to sometimes get their system infected. And there are tools to help. You will likely never know, unless you create a boot CD with malware removal tool and undo changes and repair the structure.
Windows Easy Transfer can backup user files to NTFS partition. But that is an image, not individual files, so you need to restore using it again, similar to Migration Assistant.
