Apple's a great bunch - MacBook Pro re-release.

Having bought my MBP on the 2nd of June and then found out about the £100 cheaper new upgraded version that came out on the 8th June, I wasnt a happy bunny.
To be honest the hardward upgrade side doesnt bother me. What does is the morality side of it where I wasnt given the chance to hold on and buy the newer one if I wanted too.
So I got on to apple customer services, told them about it and they said no probs we can do one of 2 things. Either send the machine back foc, get a refund and then buy the upgraded machine or they will refund the differance which for me was £100.00.
So I choose the £100 back.
By all accounts, because they upgrade all the time and cant advertise all the time situations like these are covered by Apples 'remorse policy'.
Thanks Apple - Im a happy bunny again

Hi,
I am glad that some people have had the happy ending but what bothers me is that I bought my MBP just on this March and mine has a max memory of 4 GB and I just found out that the newer ones come with max memory capacity of 8 GB.
It is not fare that I can not have more memory on my MBP that I have just purchased it 3 months ago. I hope Mac could do something for me as well. I don't need any money. I want the 8 GB memory capacity.
Do you really want to pay for 4 GB memory modules? Apple is charging $1200 for a pair, although I've seen 3rd party ones sold for about $600/pair.
It's also well known that all Apple portables since the Santa Rosa chipset models can support 6 GB. It's not documented by Apple, but it's well known.

Can I use a non Apple display with a new MacBook Pro?
    Special connections?

Only thing you need is a minidisplayport-to-? adapter ... plugs into Thunderbolt port.  ? is replaced by VGA or HDMI or DVI.
I have used high-quality brand names (LG, Samsung) that were picked because I liked the display and have had no issues.
I will add that some threads speak of issues with some Dell monitors that work spottily if at all.  But only from reading other threads.

  • How can i get or download the apple hardware test for a macbook pro made in 2012 running Mavericks 10.9.3

Does anyone know how can i get or download the apple hardware test for a macbook pro made in 2012 running Mavericks 10.9.3. Thanks.

    Sean and Andy -
I have to agree with Andy here. I am having the same problem on a mid 2010 MBP (6,2). I have already read the AHT info provided by Sean's link, and they are less than helpful. I'm sure they will be helpful to those who find that they work, but they are confusing if this is not the case. For example, my MBP(6,2) came with ONE (not two) installation disks, so the instructions don't work for me. Another issue is the instructions confound the descriptions related to the MBP, the original (delivered) software (OS X version), and the current installed OS X upgrade software.
So here's what does NOT work for me...
         (A) I cannot install 'Disk 2', since I never received this with my original (new) purchase in mid 2010.
         (B) I have checked my firmware versions and they are all up to date, as per Apple's information.
         (C) As suggested in another thread, I looked for /Library/Core Services/.diagnostics and it was NOT present. I followed his instructions, downloaded the correct (I believe) dmg, and installed it. It is in the correct place, and I can see all the invisible files using Pathfinder.
         (D) When I re-start holding down the D key (immediately), it just goes through the normal boot routine; no evidence of AHT.
(E.1) When I re-start holding down OPT-D, I get a spinning globe, and then it prompts me for a network (wi-fi) connection.
(E.2) For some unknown reason, the prompt identifies between 2 and 5 of my --neighbors'--  routers, but does not show mine. (??!!)
(E.3) The routers are listed alphabetically; however, my router SHOULD be at the top of the list by this criterion, but it is nowhere to be seen.
(E.4) The 'internet recovery' process then allows me to enter a network name AND password. I do this, for my current wi-fi router, and the process rejects it as an incorrect login ID. It is NOT an incorrect login ID!
So, now asking Sean and Andy (or anyone else) for further suggestions... ???  As Andy suggested, many people ask questions here because they have -already- worked through the 'official' recommendations, and have found them to be inadequate.
Any advice would be appreciated!  TIA.
    Ed

    Thanks!

It should. First, turn on BlueTooth on the computer. In BT preferences be sure to check the option to look for all devices. Your remote should be picked up and a notice asking if you want to Pair it with the computer. Select Yes. Once it is paired it can be used to control your computer.

  • Apple TV is not recognizing macbook pro

Apple TV is not recognizing macbook pro after it has been authorized and home sharing as been turned on; Airplay is also turned on.  I had a 7 year old macbook from which I transferred data successfully to the new macbook pro.  The old laptop has been de-authorized and the new laptop has been given a new name.  The apple TV recognizes the new name but continues to say: “unable to connect with new macbook.”

Yes, we've had the airplay turned on so we can mirror the computer on the TV.  Nothing else to it then?  That will work for us.
    Thanks.

If you are referring to the first generation Apple TV, then you cannot sync content which is stored on its hard drive back to iTunes.

Hi there @T707 , welcome to the forums
I read about how your Mac book Pro running 10.10 is no longer recognizing your Photosmart 6510.
Please respond with the following information and I will look into this for you!
Can you make copies from the front panel of the printer?
How are you connecting the printer to your MacBook? wireless, USB or ethernet
If you haven't yet tried these steps, try them in order:

Hello. I've Apple TV 3rd gen and MacBook Pro 2013 all with latest updates. AirPlay works fine till I don't start streaming videos from YouTube. After that AirPlay icon from MacBook menu bar simply disappears. Could some help. I'm using 2 Mbps internet connection.

Same issue here- I can airplay my amazon prime library just fine from my iphone 5 but on my macbook- (mavericks, 15 inch 2013 retina with quad core i7, nvidia 650 M and SSD) it just sputters and lags.
I have noticed web video is considerably worse than local content, giving me pauses of up to 2 or 3 seconds in which video stops but audio continues in the amazon player. Youku video, however, seems relatively stable. Our subscription speed is 25 mbps, so that should be plenty to stream SD video from Amazon and doesn't account for why it would be nice and stable from the iphone, but not the mbp.
Playing light, locally hosted steam sidescrollers  like Limbo is better but gives periodic drops in framerate on the Tv. when mirroring the framerate remains steady on the MBP screen.
Games airplayed from my iphone seem relatively stable, though with a noticably lower framerate on the TV than on the phone.
It seems these issues have abated considerably since yesterday's Apple TV update, but are still curious nonetheless and I'm not sure that the update yesterday was specifically meant to address those issues or if I'm just getting a time with less network interference now.
Comcast recently installed a new router/modem/phone combo, replacing our old separate modem and router setup. I'm going to test if putting the network on a different channel helps.
