Apple's battery replacement = different ipod?

Got a question about ipod battery replacement on Apple Care. Recently purchased two ipod classics, just before they were discontinued. The battery of one of them appears to be underperforming. I also have some older ipods that may need out-of-warranty battery replacement soon.
All my ipods are meticulous without a scratch.
Reading Apple’s article on ipod battery replacement, I am wondering. They call it battery replacement program but say 'No, you'll receive a replacement iPod that will not contain any of your data and songs.’
In other words: they give you another ipod - but there is no word whether it is a new one or somebody else’s. This sounds rather odd. What I try to avoid is getting a scratched up reconditioned replacement.
What do you get in the end?

In other words, their battery replacement program is really an ipod replacement program. So it is impossible to open up the ipod without damage. The program can then simply be used to get rid of your scratched up ipod.
Very strange indeed.
As to the battery of the classic purchased in Sept 2014: I am playing the same album on repeat at half volume. After 24h, there may be 15% battery left. Apple claims 40 hours and ilounge tested 58 hours.

  • Question Regarding Apple's Battery Replacement

    Hello:
I have a 3G iPod which is in need of a battery replacement. I am debating two options - sending it to Apple (approx. $65) or sending it to iPodResQ ($54 & "overnight" service).
The upsides of iPodResQ are the cost, the turnaround time, and the battery is an 850mAh (longer playtime).
The only reason I would prefer the Apple one is if they issue a new or refurbished unit in place of mine 3G. My iPod is fairly scratched up at this point in time, and it would be great to receive a cosmetically new iPod. If they just crack the current case open and put another 450mAh battery in there, the Apple replacment doesn't make any sense.
Does anyone know what Apple's policy is here? I called Apple three times now (technical support) and received a different answer each time.
Any personal experiences would be great to hear of.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Yeah, I agree of what you said, but it does not quarantine that you get the refurbished iPod, but occasionally we do in some countries.

  • Apple's battery replacement service

I have an old 1st generation iPod with a drained battery. If I sent it to Apple to replace the battery, will they send me back my same iPod, or a different one of the same generation? My iPod is in nice condition & I wouldn't want a scratched up one in exchange.

Or you could save a lot of money and replace the battery yourself.

There are other sellers on eBay for batteries, so do a search yourself.
Here is a useful guide for how to do it.

On the first and second gen iPods, the battery is physically huge (three times the size of any of the later hard drive iPods). You can get high-capacity battery that is better than the OEM battery and it will play continuously for 24 hours or more.

  • Does Apple offer battery replacement programs for older generation ipods?

Hi, I was wondering if they offer the service for a 5.5g 80gb ipod. If they do, would they replace it with another 5.5g 80gb ipod? If they don't, I will hate the company since I got my ipod for less than 2 years and the battery is almost completely dead.

I was wondering if they offer the service for a 5.5g 80gb ipod.
Yes they do have the service but it's far cheaper to go somewhere else (ipodresq.com or ipodjuice.com) or do it yoursself.
If you really want Apple to do it (~$60 vs. ~$20 DIY), go here -> https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
If they do, would they replace it with another 5.5g 80gb ipod?
No, they would replace your battery and send you the same iPod back.
If they don't, I will hate the company
    What are you, 13?

  • Apple won't replace my ipod battery

Ive had my ipod mini for around 9 months now and the battery cuts out after around half an hour of playing time. It comes back on but soon cuts out again. I sent it back to apple and they have just sent me it back today telling me that the ipod is satisfactory and that they won't replace it. Does anyone know if you can get replacements from a local apple store??
      Windows XP

they don't advertise this program properly. they will only replace the battery if they deem that it needs to be replaced. my battery has been sucking (my mini's over 2 years old) and they refused to replace its battery.

  • 2 people sharing same apple ID on 2 different iPod touches?

My brother is being selfish and wants the dongs on my iPod touch and he just got a new iPod touch and he won't use acdifferent apple id than me cuz he wants my songs. Is there any other way for him to get my songs but use a different apple ID and me still have the songs?

Well he could just sync the songs via iTunes and signed in using a different Apple ID on his device! But just make sure that yu transfer the songs from your iPod to the iTunes library!

  • Contact Apple for Battery replacement? How.

First let me say that I have the rudest Apple store in the history of the world, it's in the Tampa International Mall. My first encounter was with their salesman, Joe, who told me that I should wait to purchase the newest PB in Feb. and that the G4 PB 1.67 was not what I wanted.
I have had nothing but trouble with Apple, but I keep trying to appreciate what they have done and continue to do for my industry -- Newspaper/Photojournalism.
The first week having my PB the 'N' key broke off of my keypad. I went into the Apple Store and the assistant Manager, Nanc (that's really how it's spelled), looked at me and said that she believed I was out of my 14 day warranty without looking at my receipt, which I had ready to present to her. After they noticed my PB was under warranty, they told me it would be roughly five hours to replace my letter.
Oh thanks for the reminder-- and now after two months, my battery holds a full charge for about 34 minutes in 'better battery life' mode. So how can I contact Apple with out having to go to the store, and have them send me a new working battery?
    Thanks,
    Erick Bauman
    1.67 powerbook, 1gig ram 100g 7200.   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Why would I listen to Joe? I needed my first PB in October to start my career; furthermore I needed to prepare myself for an industry that utilizes Macs -- to which I was not accustomed. So listening to Joe was not an option, I find it strange practice to criticize and speak harshly of a product your employer sales.
As for ruining someone else's day, how would this be so? I only want what rightly I should be entitled to-- a working battery. Is that really to much to ask?

  • Battery Replacement of Ipod mini

I've heard from several people that because the ipod mini has been discontinued if i pay the £59 and send my mini off then I will receive a nano as a replacement. Is this true or just a cruel myth?

    That's not true.
    No, it is true.
Your friend was probably very lucky in that there may not have had any Minis to be sent out as replacements.
It's the same as saying "my friend bought a lotto ticket and they won so you will win if you buy one.)
Yes, it may happen but it is the exception and definitely not the rule.
I imagine it has happened a few times but don;t expect or bet on it to happen again.
Apple's policy is to send out what they get in.

  • Apple iPod Battery Replacement Program Experiences.

Hello, as you all know apple offers the battery replacement program for 99 dollars (now sixty something dollars). For any of you that have tried it, can you please tell us all a little about how was your experience? did you get a better ipod or a worse one? a refurbished, used or new? scratched or perfect?
please leave a comment on how your experience was with Apple's battery replacement program even if it is a very small one.

I just received my refurbished iPod back yesterday. It looked like new! The engraving was on the back, just like the unit I sent in.
However, the reason I am on the forums today is that when I plugged it in to charge the new battery before synching, I received the familiar "battery with exclamation point" screen. So now I seem to have a clean, new or refurbished unit with the same old problem. Frustrating to say the least.

  • How much will it cost to have Apple replace my iPod Touch 4th Generation battery?

My iPod Touch 4th Generation dies very quickly. I can have it on the charger for hours and if i take it off the battery will drain very quickly. So I was wondering if i can take it into Apple Store and have them change the battery and how much it will cost for them to do that?
    Devin.

  • Won't charge after ipod battery replacement

    Hi,
I hope you can help me.
Battery replacements for iPod generation 1 (5 GB) and iPod Photo generation 4(?) (60 GB) did not work:
I bought replacement batteries from OWC (MacSales.com). Below is the invoice data from OWC for theses batteries. Since the swapping didn't work the first time, they sent me new batteries for free, but to no avail.
    NWTBIPOD1350MPH
Apple iPod Photo 1350mAh High-Cap Battery
    S/N: 5818602, replacement for S/N: 5554860
    NWTBIPOD2200M12
    Apple iPod 1G/2G 2200mAh High-Cap Battery
    S/N: 3761061, replacement for S/N: 3761112
Neither the iPod Photo nor the iPod 1G would work after installing new batteries. The batteries were replaced by OWC, but even a new install with the new replacement batteries did not work. Both iPods worked fine after each installment with the batteries as long as there were some power left in the new batteries. As I recall, that would be about 2 hours. After the first complete charge of the batteries, the iPods seemed to work as expected, but after the second charge they both appeared completely dead. The charging was done with the chargers that came with the iPods. This is very odd, and it is hard to tell what the problem may be. I find it strange that this happens to both the 1. and 4. generation of iPods, as they are quite different, and so are the batteries, and the same thing happened after trying to swap batteries twice on both units.
Do you have any ideas as to what it may be that causes this?
If you know how I can get the iPods to work with the new batteries I would appreciate it. It is no option to buy new iPods. Economy doesn't permit it for the moment.
    Best regards from
    Guttorm Kittelsen
PS. The iPod 1 (5Gb) was bought at Office Line Mac & Carry (now Humac) in Oslo
The iPod Photo 4 G (60Gb) was bought at the Apple store. (not the App Store)

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. I suspect a hardware problem  due to the hotness. If iTunes can't see the iPod then uor only hope if to contact a data recovery company for getting data off the iPod. If you have an iPod backup you can restore another iPod, iPhone or iPad from the backup to get the data that was in the backup

  • Is there anyway for apple to replace my ipod touch if the screen cracked?

The screen cracked when it shouldnt have, on a simple fall and i read on other discussions that some ipods have been replaced by the company?

Although "drops" are not covered by the warranty, sometimes the Apple Genius will replace the iPod at no cost.  It is up to their discretion.   The only way to find out is to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
