Apple's education program

Hi everybody
I am a long time PC user that is fed up with windows. I have decided to buy a Macbook pro 13.3" 2.53Ghz version for medical school. I like the long battery, portability and durability that apple promises. My question is about the education discount. How exactly does apple verify that I am a student? If I use my parents' credit card will apple deny the rebate for the free ipod touch (I am going to sell it to lower the overall cost). How exactly does the rebate even work? Is it done online or through the more than questionable postal service?
Thank you.

I'm not sure exactly how they verify it, but I just got my new Macbook Pro and they processed my rebate and everything and it should be here within the month.
I also did the same thing 3 years ago when they had the same deal -- and the rebate and everything worked fine. You'll be fine if you do the free iPod offer!
In other words, I've bought 2 computers (with the iPod deal), and a bunch of other things (software, accessories, etc.) ALL using the education store and I've gotten the cheaper prices and everything without any problems.

  • Apple Learning Interchange or other educational programming in iTunes?

Man, it would be nice to have the Apple Learning Interchange programming within iTunes ... easier interface for the folks looking for the content at ALI, plus a great proliferator for Apple with the educational work it does.
If you haven't seen it ... check out http://ali.apple.com and browse around there. Good content from NASA, Smithsonian Institutions and others ...

It's doubtful directly, since the ALI is oriented to
text and graphics material and the iTunes Music Store
is oriented to video and audio media. It's possible
that we might at some point see a "universal" iTunes
University where content from a number of sources
would be made available, but no one here can say for
    sure.
... actually much of the content I've seen within ALI is video programming: all educational, but much of it is video. At least the question I was asking would deal with the content within ALI that would make sense to have within the iTunes Music Store.

  • I am trying to use an education program that needs Java applets to install and use and it will not use Safari. When I download IE from the web it will not install. How can I get a browser that will work on my MacAir for travel use of this program?

I am trying to use and education program that needs Java applets and it will not run on Safari. IE will not install from the web. How do I get a browser that will work to install so I can use this program when I travel.

Try using FireFox. IE will only run on a Mac if you run Windows on the Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Is there a way I can download adobe reader on my iPad or the like so I can access some educational program's?

Is there any way I can downloaded adobe reader on my iPad so I can access some educational program's. if not can I get round it somehow?

You can download Adobe Reader from the App Store:

Personally, I prefer PDF Expert or GoodReader, though.

I stopped in to see one of the genius at the local store who referred me to "Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable" (I am trying to install it on a Windows XP System)
The last version on iTunes on my PC was iTunes 7.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

    - when I developed the enterprise app are the install files on a apple hosted server or do i need my own infrastructure to distribute my app?

  • How do I get my files from apple's "Backup" program onto my computer?it

I just upgraded to the new operating system on my Macbook Pro. I had Tiger on it, and things kept getting messed up. The people at the Apple store recommended doing an "erase and install" so that it clears out all of the old program info. Prior to doing this I used Apple's "Backup" program that used to come with .Mac account to backup my information to my external hard drive. Now that I have the new OS installed I want to use the backup that I created right before I erased my hard drive to restore things back to the computer (Iphoto library, Itunes, files, Mail settings, etc.) I went to the backups folder and all I see is a bunch of folders. Isnt there supposed to be some way to put them all in their original locations? I need to get my Mail settings and bookmarks back from my Safari settings. I am really new to all of this, and thought I did things the correct way... but I am getting extremely frustrated since it does not seem to be as "easy" as the employee at the store made it out to be. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, you will need the Backup program along with the backups you created. Time Machine and Backup are not the same.
You can re-download Backup from your iDisk where you got it originally. It isn't available elsewhere.
See Mac OS X 10.5- When to use Time Machine or .Mac Backup to back up data.

  • Apple's Mail program can't handle junk mail

I've had this machine for almost two months now and I'm STILL having problems with Apple's mail program:
    1. It doesn't recognize junk mail. Although I've been in "train" mode for almost two months, it STILL doesn't recognize ANYTHING as junk mail, even things that are obviously junk, and even duplicates of messages already marked as junk.
    2. Although I've set my preferences to delete junk mail on exit, the program doesn't delete junk mail. It doesn't matter whether I mark the messages manually as junk and leave them in my inbox, or if I mark the messages as junk and move them to my junk mailbox, or if I just move the messages to the junk mailbox without marking them as junk. The messages sit in the junk mailbox until I delete them manually.
I'm EXTREMELY disappointed with Apple and Apple software and the fact that almost NOTHING works as expected or advertised. I have problems with Mail, Safari and iCal to name just a few...

I am not understanding any of these problems, as Mail marks Junk quite reliably for me (and I think many others). Also, no problems with Safari nor iCal here.
If you have Junk in Training, as you report, then this would explain some of the behavior. While in Training vs Automatic Mail does not create a Junk mailbox in the the account folder, and thus the setting to delete messages from the Junk mailbox would not do anything. If you have yourself created a mailbox named Junk, Mail would not use it for its own purposes.
I think there are a number of misunderstandings on your part (Junk filtering with Mail's own procedure vs manually created Rules for one), and thus I cannot easily tell what may do the most good to correct things.
    More info, please.

  • Apple's Replacement Program for Macbook Air mid-2012

Hi everyone, I just wanted to know more about apple's replacement program for Macbook Air mid-2012. I updated the said firmware and then my mac air stops working. However, according to the program, they are replacing it free of charge. I just went to an authorized service provider here in the Philippines and I just want to know if I will be paying any. I can't find good discussions in Google. Thanks.

You should not, as the replacement program is worldwide. In case the reseller refuses to repair your Mac for free, print this website and take it with you

Hello. I would like to activate my CS3 Educational Program (version 2007) on my new computer. Unfortunatly he is not accepting my serial number. What can I do? I have delated the program on my old computer but it doesn't accept the activation on the new laptop.

Make sure you are using the  correct serial number.  Find your serial number quickly
If you did not deactivate the original installation then it is possible your two allowed activations have been used and you need to reset your activation count.  To do that you need to contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations.  If you ask for more than that they will tell you they cannot offer you any support.
For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • How do I put a recent photo on my Apple Mail email program?

    I am using OS 10.3.9
This question is for Apple MAIL email program and the emails that I send from my Desktop, not from the .Mac site.
Several years ago I did what was necessary to have my photo put automatically on each outgoing email that I send. (I realize that not everyone can see that photo; that is not the problem.)
PROBLEM: I now have more recent photos and would like to take off the old photo and replace it with a more recent photo but I forgot the procedure for doing this and can find it nowhere!
Please, can someone write down the steps that I must go through to take off the old photo and replace it with a new photo?
    Lorna

Dear Mulder — I went to the Help and found the following instructions:
"If someone using a .Mac mail account sets up his or her account to share pictures, when you view a message from that person in Mail you'll see the shared picture. The picture is not sent in the message itself; instead, when you view the message, Mail looks for the picture on the .Mac server. You can only view shared pictures from a .Mac account using Mail and webmail.mac.com."
However: Although I belong to .Mac and do have a .Mac email address, I rarely use webmail.mac.com. Any mail that goes there (almost nothing at all) gets forwarded to my Desktop email account. I use the Apple Mail program on my Desktop, not at the website. Would the the picture be visible then? If I send an email to myself I do see the photo... but am I the only one seeing it?

  • How do I get my email in Apple's Mail program from old drive to new drive?

I can not determine from Apple's support info how to export my email in Apple's Mail program from the old drive to the new drive.
The old 60 GB drive was at 55GB and had 3 volume structure problems. It would not backup all files using SuperDuper!, but I could backup the user files onto an external 250GB Tintanium Fantom Drive. So I installed a new 120 GB in the iMac and took the old 60GB drive and put it in an external firewire drive housing, which mounts, runs and will even act as the startup drive. I installed 10.3.9 on the new 120GB drive. I was able to export the address book over to the new drive with no problems, but I don't know how to export the email.
There does not appear to be an export function in Apple's Mail program (This sounds kind of ???).
I have a lot of email (#???) in a lot folders and subfolders (60) in addition to the inboxes, plus all the sent mail (2,000)

The Mail.app preference file (which stores all account information and general Mail.app preferences) is located at Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist.
All Mail.app mailboxes and other data is stored in the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail.
With the Mail.app quit on the new hard drive, place a copy of the Mail folder from the old hard drive at Home > Library on the new drive. If there is an existing Mail folder at Home > Library, this will replace it.
Place a copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file from the old hard drive at Home > Library > Preferences on the new hard drive. If there is an existing com.apple.mail.plist file at Home > Library > Preferences on the new hard drive (and there should be one if you have launched the Mail.app on the new hard drive), this will replace it.
Launch Mail on the new hard drive and the Mail.app should be completely restored or identical to the Mail.app on the old hard drive.
