Apple's multicam workaround is bogus?

On Pogue's blog, Apple supposedly gave this as a workaround for multicam editing:
Apple intends to restore this feature in an update, calling it “a top priority.” Until it does, here’s a stopgap facsimile of multicam editing: If you drag two clips into parallel timeline tracks, you can choose Clip->Synchronize Clips. By comparing their audio tracks, the program aligns the clips exactly. Now, each time you select a piece of the upper video track and press the V key (“disable”), you are effectively cutting to what’s on the lower video track.

I've tried this and the V disable trick doesn't work. You can't seem to disable a range, you have to disable the entire clip. Only way to do this I've found is to destructively delete a portion of the upper clip to reveal the lower clip.
Can anyone confirm?

Honestly ... I don't know why you're even trying anymore with this pile of 'consumer-friendly' junk.
I don't have a problem with Apple's 'consumer' focus ... frankly I love a lot of their products.
But here, they had established, for over a decade, a clear winner of a professional editing piece of software.
Why on earth they didn't just call this iMovie ProSumer, or something like that, I have no idea.
Either way, they've turned a legendary pro video editing program into 'consumer-friendly' junk.  Don't bother with it anymore.  I was a FCP only guy until last week.  Now, I've been playing with Adobe Premiere and I love it.  It works a lot like FCP 7 did, but it's also 64-bit!  Frankly, it's exactly what I thought/hoped Apple was going to do with the next FCP.  They didn't.  Thank goodness we have some alternatives.
