Apple's new remote

Will the new remote packaged with the new iMac work with other bluetooth enable devices? I'd love to be able to control my powerbook or even my future mac mini from the couch. Fingers crossed.

The new remote is an infra red device and not bluetooth.

  • Apple's New Remote with PowerBooks?

    Hello,
I really love the new remote from Apple for their iMac. But, can I use the remote and the new software to control my PowerBook? I would love to control my iTunes on my computer while sitting across the room.
    Thanks!
    Michael

It is possible to get front row and photobooth to work with ANY mac. im sure apple will not approve of this. but i did a bit of tinkering and found a way. uses escape, enter, and arrow keys. still trying to figure out how to get photobooth to work. i use my logitech mx laser mouse, which i can define the buttons with. so its like a remote, but it does everything, and its RF, so you dont have to be in the line of sight.

How to config a new remote on apple tv (first generation). I have lost my remote which came with the apple tv.

Do you mean you've replaced your remote and it wont work because your AppleTV is paired to your lost remote?
If so, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1555 has you covered.

  • How to pair a new remote for Apple TV First Gen Without the Old Remote?

We bought the first generation apple tv when it first came out. When we got it, it came with the old small plastic remote. A few years back we lost the plastic remote and decided to one of the new metal remotes but 1 problem. We can pair the new remote with the old apple tv without the old remote.
If anyone knows a work around to this problem... that would be great. Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

  • I've bought a new remote for my apple TV and now I can't access the menu

I just bought a new remote for my Apple TV since I lost the original one.  Now I cannot access the menu as all I get is the standard "screen saver".  Even then, sometimes it won't even turn on, so I have to unplug it and wait two minutes and then plug it back in.  Regardless if I do that or not...........the best I ever get is the screen saver.

  • Pairing a NEW remote for the apple TV (2nd gen)

We pair all our remotes to our apple products. Our paired remote for our 2nd Generation apple TV was lost, so we bought a new one. How do I pair the new remote, when the Apple TV won't even turn on because our new remote isn't paired with it..? When I press any button on the new remote I only get a double light flash signalling that the remote isn't paired with that product.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

A classic chicken/egg problem. I see this in the Apple TV manual:
You can also hold down Menu and Right for 6 seconds to pair Apple TV and the Apple Remote.
When you successfully pair your Apple Remote, Apple TV displays a chainlink symbol (          ) above a picture of a remote. Apple TV now works only with the paired remote.
You might have to change your screen name (kidding).

  • Your thoughts.. lack of functionality Apple Universal Dock Remote Control

Most of us that toy around with the a/v out capabilities of the Touch are aware that standard remote control functionality is not currently available with the Apple Universal Dock remote. I can understand how mapping the multi-touch functionality to the remote's 'standard iPod wheel' functionality is like mapping apples (no pun intended) to oranges. But, I would imagine a firmware update could do the trick. However, I think it would be really cool (and expensive) to create a mini multi-touch remote.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this.
I have posted my enhancement request, firmware upgrade first.. new remote second... to Apple's feedback site... please send in your comments if you feel the same way I do... they do listen...

What happens when you try to use the remote with an iPod touch in an Apple Universal Dock? I'd been thinking of getting Apple's dock/remote, especially because the features guide says,
You can connect iPod touch to your TV and watch your videos on the larger screen. Use the Apple Component AV Cable, Apple Composite AV Cable, or other iPod touch compatible cable. You can also use these cables with the Apple Universal Dock, available separately, to connect iPod touch to your TV. (The Apple Universal Dock includes a remote, which allows you to control playback from a distance.)
Does the remote have only limited function, then? What does the remote do, or not do?

  • Where is the volume control in the new Remote 3.0 app?

I'm unable to find  the volume control in the new Remote 3.0 app.

i have the same remote 3.0 but now i am even able to control the volume from the app....
is the app connecting to your itunes?
what version of iTunes do you have?
do you have a pc or a mac? what version?
i assume you downloaded the apple remote app, just in case, not a 3rd party's....
did you try deleting and redownloading the app?

  • Apple's new wireless keyboard

Is it possible to 'easily' remove the keys on one of the new Apple, wireless keyboards - and replace them in other positions? The reason is that I now live in a small, remote village in the French Alps. When I was down at the coast I bought one of Apple's new wireless keyboards - to use with my Macbook Pro (with the lid closed) and a separate display . However, what I did not notice was that although it had a photo of a 'querty' layout on the box - it was, of course, a French 'azerty" keyboard inside! It is not easy for me to return to the shop - and, they tell me by 'phone that they do not have, nor can they get, 'querty' keyboards.
I have a gizmo that makes it easy to remove keys on the original keyboards - but these keys are much lower profile. Other than writing over the keys with a pen (and choosing a 'querty' keyboard in systems preference - can I physically move the keys without causing damage?

    Hi Alan:
I have one of those keyboards, but I have never removed the keys. I do not want to guess and cause you to damage the KB. I would ask an Apple source (store, Applecare) to try to get a definitive answer.
Incidentally, you might ask Apple if you could exchange the KB for one with the key configuration you wish.

  • Apple Earbuds with remote mic/volume functions not working in Windows

So this is somewhat of a strange one. My new Macbook Pro early 2011 with a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro with all latest updates (including the recent firmware and bootcamp releases) doesn't seem to see my Apple Earbuds with remote as a microphone and the volume commands from the earbuds do nothing. However this works fine under OSX and used to work with my mid 2009 MBP. Anyone else seeing this and does anyone know a way to solve this problem?

I'm having the same problem here. Did you find a solution?

That is why I said to restore via iTunes, did you check the link?
This will put it back to factory settings and you can set it up with the new ID once you reconnect with your HDTV. This is not done via ethernet, as per the link you need to connect to the computer via micro usb. You cannot bypass home sharing.
FYI: An Apple ID cannot be deleted so the old one would still exist (even if you no longer use the email account it is associated with).

  • Blue page , Apple Hot News OCtober 16 2009, then it hangs .

Ok now I have no idea what is going on here. My nephew got on my computer today through firefox to do some homework ( he is like 10 years old) assigned by school . HE is a trouble maker and so have that in mind. He was told not to touch anything and just do his homework through the web page he was on and the firefox. I walk away for less than 5 minutes and when I come back, I see that the computer is rebooting . It actually runs from a secondary disk on 10.5.8 and 10.3.9 on primary internal disk. It was booting on the primary ( 10.3.9) , so I asked the kid what happened and he said that it hung and that he pressed the restart button. I thereafter rebooted which did bring the computer up on the external drive which is running on 10.5.8. The problem is a few minutes into the boot, after the computer comes up, somehow it runs something by itself that clears the desktop and replaces it with a blue screen with clouds, and then Apple logo , together with something like Apple Hot News, October 16, 2009 displays, and then page goes blank with a faint column of words displaying about 1/3 way frem the left side. Next is the computer either just hangs ( dies) on that page or it acts as though its going to sleep with screen going off and unresponsive thereafter. It takes pressing the restart button to shut down the computer and depressing it again to restart the computer.
I am not really sure if the kid has done something that has started this but it is happening again and again. I have used the MAC OS disk and ran dissk utility , repair comes out clean and repair permission gives a bunch of messages which I previously have noted that are problems with 10.5.8
I have tried to run activity monitor and console in hope of finding something but I am not knowledgeable enough to do so. Console has barfed over 4000 messages in the past two hours and the mail seems to be the process that is using most cpu , other than that I guess I am just sitting and waiting for it to happen again so maybe I see something. I am actually afraid of walking away even for a minutes as it seems that its like waiting for me to walk away so that it crashes
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Update: Using Remote Install I was able to remotely boot my mac from another laptop's CDROM drive and run Disk Utility from the installer which again passed with out errors like the fsck command.  I also repaired disk permissions.  Upon reboot to the internal SSD, I am again getting the same blue screen.
So, since I can boot remotely and my disk seems to check out ok I am guessing now that there is something wrong with my OS, some kind of corruption has occurred, but that is just a guess.  It is possible I guess for there still to be an actual hard drive or hard ware failure of some kind.
    Any help is still appreciated.

  • New remote maintenance !

    Hello !!
How can I get a new remote maintenance for the inspire 5500 ?
    Thanks

I have found that following what Apple reccomends seems to keep the battery working at peak for as long as it is designed to do so... In a nut shell, run your PB on battery till it sleeps once per month, be sure to re-charge to 100 percent. When its at home don't worry about leaving it plugged in if you perform this routine approx onece a month. Here's a link to more info:
