Apple's Syncing Screw up

HOW CAN I GET AROUND THIS OBVIOUS APPLE SCREW UP. None of my downloaded apps are functional now for the second time after syncing. it is only after syncing that this seems to happen and this is the second time. the last time I had to individually delete each app from the device and then RE-download each friggin' one. I REALLY dont wanna have to do this again. How do I get around this!?!?!?!?!? I have tried the soft reset and turning the phone off and on again. also i have been very aware of my service status. Nothing matters or makes any difference in the degree of failure of every app I have downloaded. All the things that came on the phone are fine. If there is no way around this then PLEASE Apple Reps FIX THIS BUG! In short: The syncing of my iPhone renders all apps obtained from the App store inoperable.

Be VERY careful when syncing the phone for the first time when it comes to the back up which you select. Problem still not resolved for me and may require a new device.

    Please help.

actually, unless you take an extra step, the first opened swf will close.  if you want the 2nd to close, the initial receiving lc will send a message to sender that causes the sender to close.

  • How often does the Apple TV sync with updated home sharing playlists?

I am trying to use several Apple TV's at my business for content management throughout our campus.  I want to be able to have a playlist of pictures and videos that is easy to update.  Can anyone tell me how often the Apple TV syncs with the home sharing network for an updated playlist?  It would be very inconvenient if the only way was to do a reboot on every device each time content was updated.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I can't really say for sure how often the Apple TV updates its shared libraries.
I do however know that once the Apple TV as completed playing something, it will sync with the shared library in order to update the play count. So I'd be reasonably sure that the shared library is updated at least once every time something is played.

  • I have iPod Touch and husband has iPad3.  Apple store synced both together and now on iTunes, iPod shows "other" usage way over.  I hardly have anything on my iPod (no books, music, etc.).  Do we have to unsync?

I have iPod Touch & husband has iPad3.  Apple Store synced both together and now on iTunes my capacity shows "other" (yellow line) way over what I really have.  Only have 1.75GB apps - no music, videos, etc.   I'm afraid since we synced both devices, my iPod has taken on the iPad capacity.   Does this make sense to anyone?   If I don't get a solution from this website, guess I'll have to go back to the Apple Store and try to straighten this out.   HELP!!   Thx, Lee

  • Does Apple TV sync video playback positions?

I'm considering an Apple TV, but see a deal breaker:
Does the Apple TV sync movie playback positions to and from its host iTunes library? Does it also mark video podcasts as viewed?

This is certainly true when content is streamed, I don't sync any content other than photos but I could see why playback position wouldn't necessarily get synced, can you confirm you are talking about syncing and not just streaming.

  • What does Apple Mobile Sync do for me?

I frequently get a little thing popping up on my screen, saying Apple Mobile Sync wants access to my several e-mail account passwords.
I have never used and am not likely ever to use MobileMe. I do use an iPhone.
Does Apple Mobile Sync participate in keeping my iPhone and Mail accounts synced, such that I should be giving it access to those keychains? Or is it a MobileMe-only, otherwise-useless appendage?

    HI,
From your Apple menu click System Preferences. If you see an icon like this: in the System Preferences pane, then you have a MobileMe account. If you choose not sync via MobileMe, click the MobileMe icon in the System Preferences pane. Select the Sync tab.
    Deselect: Synchronize with MobileMe
If necessary, you can cancel the MobileMe account. Click here: http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/
Click: Account and Billing / Cancel

Only if you have a MobileMe account.

  • Apple TV sync disrupts AirTunes streaming to airport express

Whenever my Apple TV is syncing with iTunes it disrupts my AirTunes stream to my airport express - the audio just stops playing.
Is there a way to fix this? Perhaps slow down the Apple TV sync so it doesn't suck up all the bandwidth so my airtunes stream keeps playing? Not sure if that's really the problem though.
    Thanks for the help.

Yes, they ditched this useful feature with AppleTV2.

  • Trying to install iTunes 10.7 fails - "The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\common\files\apple\MobileDeviceSupport\Sync Services\....\Windows

I am trying to install iTunes 10.7 and keep getting this error message (I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit):
"The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\common\files\apple\MobileDeviceSupport\Sync Services\....\Windows"
There seem to be other threads that deal with other permission errors, those fixes did not work for this.
    Thanks

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Why won't my apple tv sync with my new macbook pro, they are both on the same wifi signal

why won't my apple tv sync with my new macbook pro, they are both on the same wifi signal.

Not sure of what? In your second response you said the issue was with airplay. You were also having issues connecting laptop to computer, which points to a laptop connectivity issue. I simply asked if home sharing was an issue as well, since that will confirm the laptop as the cause. Your response that home sharing is on doesn't really help since that doesn't itself have a bearing on airplay nor does it answer the question in regards to if home sharing is working on Apple TV
If you have a further question you will need to be specific.

  • Frustrations with Apple TV Syncing

Ok, so I have my 160GB Apple TV synced to my iTunes Library. Recently, while perusing my Library, I noticed that I had a few duplicates in my playlist. I would play both copied versions to ensure that they were both valid, and set about deleting the duplicates. To my chagrin, I discovered today that apparently both versions in my Library were pointing to the same files, so my deleting them actually deleted them entirely. This is odd and frustrating enough, as it is inexplicable that iTunes would make duplicate entries for a handful of songs for no rhyme or reason, but oh well.
The real frustration comes from the fact that now, my Apple TV feels the need to completely re-sync portions of my library, including the 122 movies I own. So, now I am staring at my iTunes with the message 'Copying 1 of 191'. What is that all about? If a song disappears from my library, then I understand that Apple TV would loose it too (although I hate that about this device, I have learned to accept it), but why in the **** would iTunes think it needed to re-copy 191 files back over to the Apple TV?!?
As-is I find that iTunes periodically picks a handful of songs to 'copy' over to Apple TV despite the fact that nothing has changed, and find it a minor annoyance.
I love the idea of Apple TV, but sincerely wish that Apple would allow it to work autonomously. So I could just manually put want I want onto it without this whole syncing nonsense. Now I have no other choice but to sit here and wait while 100GB of movie files re-copy onto my Apple TV over my wireless network... a process that took over 36 hours last time.
What, if anything can be done to avoid this in the future?
    Thanks,
    Will

I've no answer to your issue of duplicate files. I've had occasions in the past where I'VE got confused and deleted stuff. I learnt that right / shift clicking the file, get info, would tell you the location of the file, ensuring that you were aware of the pointing to the same file thing even if itunes wasn't.
As for the resyncing...... I;ve also a 160GB TV... My first sync is always done over ethernet, which only takes a couple of hours (I've 120GB on content - Mainly naff 80's euro pop, as it happens!)

  • Please help - Apple TV syncing renders wireless mouse useless.

Please help: Every time my Apple TV syncs my wireless mouse (Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000) totally useless. Mouse works but is not controllable.
Is there a fix for this?
I'm new to Mac, love it all but this problem makes me want to plug my PC back in.

Where you bought the devices is unlikely to stop them working together with one possible exception. In the USA wifi channels are restricted to channels 1 through 11, whereas in the UK (for example) wifi channels 1 through 13 can be used, so there exists the possibility that the extreme could be transmitting on (say) channel 13 and the tv might only be listening on channels 1 through 11.
Given you bought the extreme in the US and the tv in Europe I doubt this would apply unless you have fiddled with the location settings on these devices. I could see it being a possible issue if you'd bought the extreme in Europe and the tv in the US.

  • Apple TV sync does not stop

Despite not syncing any new media, my Apple TV has been syncing for well over an hour now. And while I added some TV shows to the iMac with which the Apple TV syncs, they do not appear on the menu of TV shows yet.
Any suggestions? I am running the latest software on all systems (all upgraded late last week).
    Thanks!

I did a factory reset of the Apple TV. That fixed the problem, although it killed my movies wish list and TV favorites.

  • Enabling Photos Causing Apple TV Sync to Hang

I just update my Apple TV software to the new 3.0 hoping this problem (which is clearly a bug) I experienced in v2.4 with latest iTunes 9x would be solved, but its still there.
Problem is if I enable Photos to sync in iTunes for Apple TV sync will just keep spinning and spinning and nothing will sync. This is true if I check all folders or just select folders. I've tested this with a only single folder selected with only one jpeg image in it, and it still fails. The moment I uncheck photos, syncing is fine again.
There are no other issues I can find e.g. firewall settings are correct, music and movies sync fine....tested with both automatic sync and custom sync settings checked and both synced successfully so long as photos were not selected to sync.
What I have found searching through the boards here looking for answers are plenty of others with similar issues. Is Apple ever going to address this obvious software flaw? One of main reasons I got my ATV is to easily look through image catalogs with friends and family that come over. But this is impossible right now for obvious reasons.
If anyone has any experience or thoughts on a fix for this frustrating issue, please reply post - much appreciated.

I THINK I fixed mine (Same problem - endless syncing)and wanted to share what seems to have worked.
I just picked up an AppleTV this week- and am trying to sync my itunes library of music, photos, and movies. I'm running over Ethernet. My iTunes library is on a Windows7 machine. The Itunes software is installed on the c drive, but the media is all on the "D". (this seems important in a second).
Out of the box, while I could stream, the "barber pole" never actually went away in default "sync all" mode. I upgraded to 3.0.1 - and had several hours of syncing displaying on iTunes, but no actual copying to the ATV. Just "barber pole" - with CPU on the iTunes machine growing higher and higher - eventually staying at 97-99% (typcially a sign something was stuck and looping). I tried a bunch of combinations of rebooting both and relinking the primary library. Still no luck. Quitting itunes was the only way to make it stop syncing.
I figured I'd try to nail down the problem area by syncing only one thing at a time. I enabled custom sync and disabled ALL content syncing, sync ran for a minute and for the first time completed (with nothing selected). I then ran it for just music - and - after about a minute of barber pole, hey! Success, for music at least. I got a "Copying x of y..." type status and 7000 songs later (about an hour) it was done. Next photos.
I tried all kinds of variations with photos and nothing worked. Then I saw this post and tried 2 things that SEEMED to work. 1) deleted ALL of the ipod photo cache directories on my machine. 2) created a new directory with just 2 photos on that same "d" drive with the rest of my photos. That didn't work at first. BUT, when I copied that SAME 2-photo folder to the default Windows photo directory on "c", and told itunes to ONLY sync that directory from its default location, I had my first success! Only 2 photos - but a start. Based on that, I went back to the main photo directory on "D", made sure all the ipod photo caches were gone, and synced only the SAME tiny folder but now on "D", and it worked! Progress! Next, I enabled a slightly larger folder with 20 pics in the new location and the original 2-picture folder. Success again. Then I added 2 more folders with about 8000 photos and that worked. I added another few folders with about 16,000 pictures and that's syncing now - copying x of 16,800. Looks like things are moving.
SO... my guess: it had something to do with my itunes library being on a different volume, possibly corrupt photo caches, and that AppleTV/iTunes needed to complete one full sync of photos under the default directory (which had NO photos btw) to establish some things. When this is complete, I'll go back and move enable tv and podcasts.
Only a guess, but 1) try a custom sync with nothing selected to "clear it's head." 2) delete ALL ipod photo cache directories on the machine 3) try syncing just a small folder from the default photo directory Apple provides, 4) then go back and try adding more folders from the original location under custom. Seems to have worked for me - will update if I find more.

  • IOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?

iOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times per community advice have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?
"&" is not the obvious bug/answer. Not sure what went wrong as I cannot select albums and events for sync. Situation is worse for iPad and Apple TV when error 1140 message popped up even before backup get completed.

Download and install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update, which was just released today. It may be the answer to your problems:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1598
Be sure that neither iTunes nor iPhoto is running when you install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update. After installing the update, then restart iTunes and iPhoto. By default, "All photos" is selected. Change this (it's no longer grayed out) to "Selected albums..." and you should be OK.

  • Apple TV sync breaks connection to TC

I have my TC connected to a router and TM setup and running fine on my iMac - but after buying and setting up an Apple TV, the TC drops the connection everytime I start to sync my ATV via iTunes.
Sometimes is starts to sync ATV for a while, but it always ends up loosing the connection.
After restarting the TC, everything works fine again. Until I start to sync ATV in iTunes.
I have no other problems using TC.
    My setup:
    iMac 27"
    TC 500 GB - 7.4.2
    Snowleopard 10.6.4
    What could cause this problem?

This message is not much help, other than the consolation of not being alone, but I have the same problem.
Everything seems to work fine until I attempt an Apple TV sync.
Even stranger, the wifi connection indicator on the menu bar shows my Time Capsule wireless network at full strength at the same time as Airport Utility can't find my Time Capsule or any other wireless devices.
I'm looking into connecting the Apple TV to the Time Capsule by ethernet cable as it seems the only solution.
