Apple's Web Mail Discombobulation

Hi,
This is really silly: all day today, when I access my .mac account's e-mail using the web-mail portal, the task buttons ("compose new" etc.) in the task bar appear in wrong positions, albeit fully functional! Similarly, the "next/previous 20 messages" buttons are flipped in order, but function correctly. Please take a look at the picture; it is really weird!
Has anyone seen something like this? Has anyone an idea how to fix this?
Thanks, Tristan

Hi Susan,
Welcome to the Apple Discussions fora!
...where all problems are solved (we wish). Actually, my problem did get solved: I emptied Safari's cache (Safari/Empty Cache... menu item), quit it and re-launched it, logged into my .mac account --- TA DA --- and the discombobulation was fixed.
I'd wish to know, however, what sort of thing (apparently in Safari's cache) can cause this silly misbehavior!
So, Susan, please try it yourself: empty Safari's cache, and see if the problem goes away.
Cheers, Tristan

  • Safari quits when deleting AOL web mail on iMAC G4 after Apple update

Tonight I went to the Houston Galleria Apple store and reproduced problem several times using iMAC G5. Selecting several mail messages and deleting produced problem every time. I was able to delete individually clicking at end of line 3 or 4 times before crashing.
Surprisingly I used a new Intel iMac and could not reproduce problem after multiple attempts. I was shocked as was Mac Genius who was working with me. Multiple attempts using cocktail, removing preferences, reseting, cleaning AOL preferences etc was useless.
Mac Genius had no idea. Message to apple. Frustrated.

Hi James! And Welcome To Discussions!
    Deleting AOL Mail, crashes Safari
It seems the most recent Safari, and or 10.4.4, update has created this problem.
Apple & AOL are both aware of this, but, as far as I know, no correction has been implemented.
Here are some of the work arounds, that I have been able to discern from the various posts regarding this issue.
    Use the FIREFOX BROWSER.
    Use your AOL Mail program.
Use this utility AOL SERVICES UTILITY, to set up Apple Mail, to access AOL Mail.
Access the AOL Mail thru Classic AOL Webmail.
And here are links, to the various threads, discussing this issue.

  • Apple Mail and Yahoo Web Mail won't work when iPhone Email Active

It is interesting that when I have my iPhone email active, if I try to download messages to Apple Mail on a regular computer, I get the enter password screen over and over (password is already in the system) so I never get mail. Also when I have my iPhone active I get an error message on Yahoo Web Mail. When I turn off my iPhone email, I get access to both Apple Mail and Yahoo Web Mail. I have tested this on several occasions and it always happens like this. Would like not to have to turn off my iPhone email when I go to a regular computer to access Apple Mail or Yahoo Web Mail.

    dddog,
Are you accessing the Yahoo email or the email on your computer as POP3?
If so this article would apply:

  • Spontaneous trouble receiving mail from Mail Application and Web Mail

    Hello,
Unfortunately I need some assistance. For unknown reasons, today at about 12 PM our in house email server (10.3.9) started failing to allow any user to connect to download mail. I have users running POP and other users running IMAP accounts that had the same lack of function.
When I connect using web mail I get the following error:
Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost. 61 : Connection refused
When I connect from the Mail application I get the following error:
The server "mail.mycompany.com" refused to allow a connection on port 110

When I connect using the Server Admin program the IMAP and POP logs are empty despite being set to the “All events” setting, and the SMTP log contains the following message frequently despite still being able to send email from the affected accounts:
(temporary failure. Command output: couldn't connect to lmtpd: Unknown Error Code: 0_ 421 4.3.0 deliver: couldn't connect to lmtpd_ )
I have restarted the server, I have run disk utility to repair permissions and made no intentional adjustments to the server in the last week. The last adjustment to the mail server I made was about 1 month ago to turn on IMAP authentication to allow me to switch from a POP to an IMAP email account.
Please help me figure this out!
    Thanks in advance.

Mike

    Thanks for your assistance.
I found the logs and while there is a mail.log there is no mailaccess.log file.
There is a mailaccess.log.0.gz which I decompressed and I also decompressed the mailacess.log.1.gz.
The mailaccess.log.1 file contains entries from July 10th through July 11th.
The mailaccess.log.0 file contains entries from August 14th through August 15th (today). Seems like there was a long period that did not get archived correctly.
Here is a subset of what was in the mail.log from this morning:

  • Changing my Apple ID E-Mail Adress

    Hi,
I wanted to change my Apple ID E-Mail adress. the one right now is an "web.de" adress and I dont use it anymore. So i wanted to change it to my frequently used "yahoo.de" email adress. But since the yahoo adress used to be my "backup" adress, it wont let me change it. I already changed my Backupadress so I could use my yahoo adress. But it always says that I cant use the same email adress twice. What do I do now?

It's no longer on that account, and you've tried logging out and back into the account and it still doesn't let you use it ?

  • Clicking "reply" on web mail emails does not autofill the sender's name, nor does autofill work when I start typing an addressee's name.

I use godaddy web mail for email address "[email protected]" In the past, when I would click "Reply" to reply to an email, a window would open and the recipient's email address would autofill in the "To:" box. Now it does not. I checked on Internet Explorer, and it works there, but again, not on Firefox. Also in the past, when I would initiate a new email, as I started to type the addressee's email address in the "To:" box, it would autofill from my address book into that box. Now it does not.

I believe the Apple Help information is incorrect. This has never worked this way for as long as I've used it, and I don't believe it ever was intended to work that way. I'd say it's a case where the writers of the Help documentation meant one thing and phrased it incorrectly, and it slipped through the proofreading process all these years.

  • Safari quits if I save, delete or move mail on AOL web mail. How do I fix?

After Apple's latest suggested update, I have been having problems with AOL web mail. Safari quits when I try to save mail, move mail, delete mail! I would like to know how to fix this! I had no problems BEFORE the update! I just updated these items on 1/11 and there appears to be a conflict, but I don't know what it is or how to fix it....these are the updates I did.....DVD playback update 4.6.1, Quicktime 7.0.4, itunes 6.0.2, Mac OS X update 10.4.4. I emptied the cache, cleared the history and removed ALL cookies...these did not help me. I hope someone can help me!
    iBookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I am having trouble with AOL, too. I have uninstalled it, removed all preferences and reinstalled it. The problem I am having is I cannot send mail or ever write an e-mail. I get a completly blank page not showing anything and then am kicked off of AOL. If I start the computer in safe mode and then try and write an e-mail everything is fine. After I restart my computer after having it in the safe mode and write an e-mail everything is fine. If I turn my computer off for several hours or a day and then logon to AOL and try and write an e-mail I get the blank page and am kicked off. Why is this?

I've seen the opposite issue.  My wife recieved an email with jpg attachments.  She couldn't see or print them on her iPhone 4S but they showed up fine in iCloud or in the mail app.  I had her forward the email to herself and then they showed up.  I assume there is an issue with how Apple is processing the attachments and resending causes them to get reformatted in a way that makes them easier to handle.
So yeah.  Seems like some bugs.  Hope Apple fixes them soon.

  • Address Book NOT accepting csv.txt file as import from EARTHLINK web mail

Greetings. Unsuccessful thus far in importing e-addresses from Earthlink Web Mail to MAC Address Book. Found preferences and saved Earthlink addresses as csv.txt file but AB rejected as not true csv. Apple suggested conversion to V cards but could not find that option in Earthlink-ville. Perused Allan's post on synching with Total Access but fear accidentally installing stuff on my MACbook Pro from that application that is unneccessary or will screw up my new MAC world. Although in the long run, having Web mail back up my MAC makes sense. (Work and husband remain PC/ XP.)
Any solutions you can offer will be much appreciated.
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Thanks again. Okay, I pasted a portion of the csv file . I might be mistaken here, but I don't think these are V card format and perhaps converting them to V cards is what I'd have to do. But I would need pretty explicit directions.

In Safari [versions above] the apple-I command "Mail contents of this page" crashes my entire computer every time. Everything freezes. I would have responded earlier, but I just ran the unix maintenance scripts (MacJanitor 1.3) and Repaired permissions, and rebooted just to make sure this wasn't the issue. I tried it again, and once again had issues. It took five to ten minutes, but it finally launched Mail and did what it should. In the meantime, I actually saw Mac OS X come to a standstill (menu bar clock seconds stopped ticking) for the first time ever. I tried again after Mail was open, and it worked instantly. Next to try some preference dumping.....

  • Sent mail from my iPhone not showing as sent in web mail folders?

    Hi,
Shouldn't Yahoo Biz mail I send from my 3g show up in my sent folders on my Macbook via Yahoo web mail?
What I do on my iPhone with email does not at all jive with what I see on web mail.
ALL my settings, ports, SMTP/POP are correct according to Genius Bar and Yahoo Small Business Support. I am running 3.0
    Thanks

The Genius at the Apple bar in NY that was awesome in working with us MUCH preferred to use IMAP, he even talked with Yahoo Business Support for us on the spot, unfortunately as he and I understood the conversation IMAP is not an option with Yahoo Small Business email on the iPhone...Correct Alan?
Correct. The email account provider must support accessing the account as an IMAP account.
When creating an Yahoo account with the iPhone's Mail client using the Yahoo account preset, the account is created as an IMAP account with Push access for received messages. The problem with this is you can't create and access the account as an IMAP account with an email client on your computer - with any other email client.
So to get IMAP what do we need to do...No more iPhone?...No more Yahoo Small Business email?...Not sure what our next step is but this we do know, our business is suffering because of this alone.
If you want IMAP account access, you need to switch to an email account provider that supports IMAP account access.
You can access a Gmail account as an IMAP account.
There may be a 3rd party service that provides Exchange account access without your company needing to invest in an Exchange server.

    Hi
In my web mail app (pop3) im presenting a list of messages to the user using a web interface. -Deleted the Mail preference file ->com.apple.mail.plist
