Apple's (wireless) Mighty Mouse throwing fits

Not sure how to pinpoint the origins of this fault, but it all started about the same time as the 10.5.1. Update.
Some 0.5-1 hours in computer usage, the mouse would lose the left button and/or scrolling functionality (while maintaining maneuverability), and trackpad & click would work fine.
Am already patched to the absolute latest Software Update (which by the way, still gives me the ocassional "suspended 1st key press problem" which was purportedly solved by the patch.. well... not quite Apple

I am not familiar, either, with Apple's scripting tools. I find it somewhat odd that a simple option like configuring a button to double-click was not included by Apple in its spiffy BT MightyMouse, and that one has to purchase a shareware application to be able to have that configuration.

Wireless Mighty Mouse Power Usage

OK, why can I not find how much power is used for Apple's Wireless Mighty Mouse. This mouse is cool and I like not being tethered BUT it is eating alive the batteries like they are nothing.
I disable the device by turning it off when I am not using it.
My solutions is to start using rechargeable batteries BUT as I read up on that technology it is clear I need to purchase the right ones, that will give me the longest use from them.
But to do this I need to figure out how much power the Mighty Mouse consumes if used constantly for say an hour.
I have looked every where including the Tech Spec's, one would think that information would be in there, but to no avail.

My Bluetooth mouse does the same thing. I can usually get about two months use out of the batteries using Alkaline. If I use Lithium batteries, about two weeks longer. So in the long run, for me at least, it's more cost effective to use the alkaline batteries. Lithium rechargeables are are available as well as other types of rechargeable batteries, but they never really seem to last as long as their non-rechargeable counterparts and of course after several charges, begin to have shorter and shorter lifespan between charges. At least that's been my experience and may or may not always be the case with all rechargeable batteries what with newer charging technology.

Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse only detect one button click

I have had my Apple Bluetooth wireless Mighty Mouse for a little over a year and it has just recently began to only detect on button function, and cannot differentiate between left click, right click, or the scroll click.
It behaves slightly differently under different settings. When I have the scroll click set to do ANYTHING, any click on the mouse will do that respective action. When I have the scroll click turned off, and the left is set to primary and right is secondary, it will do the Primary action. When I have the left set to secondary, and the right set to primary, it will still do the Primary action.
I have looked all over the internet and have found very little help. The scroll wheel is fine so I don't really want to have to take it apart and glue it back together. Anybody know any tricks? Anything will help! Thanks!

I found a partial fix over on this thread.
Basically, the fix is to install the shareware program USB Overdrive and set up the buttons via its control panel. Then uninstall it.
In my case, USB Overdrive brings my mouse back to normal operation, but when I uninstall it, my mouse goes back to acting like a one-button mouse.
For now, I'll keep USB Overdrive installed. Maybe I can bill Apple for the $20!

Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse internal speaker not working !!!

Recently I bought an used Wireless Mighty Mouse (first version with grey side buttons), the mouse is working perfectly minus the single little detail that I can not hear any clicking sound from the internal tiny speaker inside the mouse when I use the little scroll ball above the mouse or when I press the grey side buttons, is this normal or should I hear the clicking sound simulated by the internal speaker? is there a way to enable or disable the internal speaker by software? Maybe is disabled by default, I don't know. I really don't think the speaker could be damaged due to the rest of the mouse is working like a charm but maybe mine came without a speaker, could be? or maybe it got disconnected somehow. Any clues or ideas would be very helpful. Thanks !

and I can keep giving you tens of links to proof you that actually there is (or maybe there was) a tiny speaker inside the mighty mouse and the wireless mighty mouse, If yours came without one it doesn't necessarily mean all came without one, right? That is why I asked you what version you have in order to figure out which ones does have the speaker and which one doesn't.

Apple Wireless Mighty mouse

I have a wireless mighty mouse, and over the past couple of weeks I have noticed that the scroll wheel is acting funny. It will scroll down and side to side, but not up. This will happen sometimes then the mouse will start working normally again. It's still within the years warranty, but I'm not sure if I could find the receipt but was wondering if they would have a way to locate my purchase because I paid by card? Is there an easy way to fix this or should I just return it to Apple for a refund?

It takes a lot of caution, but I use a cleaning solvent (light fluid). I've tried cloth and dry t-shirts, but nothing had worked quite as well for me. The polycarbonate shell won't get marred by the solvent and I haven't had any problems with the rubber on the scroll bar.
Of course using flammable liquids means you're doing so knowing the risks and can take responsibility for your own safety. I've heard of people who tried killing head lice with gasoline and the fumes were ignited by a water heater.

Apple wireless Mighty Mouse not working in Windows XP Pro/Boot Camp

I was able to get Windows XP Pro to install successfully on my new iMac, but I can only get a wired Microsoft USB mouse to work with it. When I boot to WinXP with just my wireless Mighty Mouse, the wireless mouse is completely unresponsive. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution? Thanks!

Wireless Mighty Mouse has "loose" top shell

Has anyone else observed/been annoyed by the "looseness" of the top shell on the Wireless Mighty Mouse? I've noticed that the top shell has a definite "give" to it that preceeds the intended click of the mouse. This results in an audible "click" as you hear the plastic top shell come into contact with the base of the mouse, as well as a physical "give" that throws off the whole clicking motion and otherwise makes this $70 mouse seem like a cheap plastic toy... I posted a video (ironically filmed using my built-in isight) of the whole thing. It's the first time I've posted a video online so make me feel competent and take a look and see if this is what you're suffering from. If there is a serious issue with this, maybe we could take this info back to apple...

Odd Wireless Mighty Mouse behavior with new Mac Pro?

Hi,
I have a brand new Mac pro and Wireless Apple Mighty Mouse & Keyboard.
The mouse however is not operating properly, it is jerky and slow to respond on a intermittent regular basis. I can move the cursor around the screen but it will stutter and jerk slowly then pick up ok?
I had the mouse and keyboard with my iMac and it worked fine. I have run all updates and re-installed but to no avail. The keyboard is fine.
I suspect it's a hardware issue with my new mac Pro but i'd love it if someone has any other possible causes.

Hi, there's a quite a few people with similar problems, including myself.
My keyboard likes to drop it's connection for no apparent reason, which in turn likes to mess up my mouse and cause it to stutter for a while. Pairing up new devices can do this too, I've found.
It's been thought that some Mac Pro's came with their WiFi and BT wires incorrectly fitted, if you have a search you should find a link to the tutorial if you want to try switching them around.
That said, it didn't make any difference to my BT keyboard and wireless Mighty Mouse, so I switched them back.
I've been hoping for a software fix, but no joy so far, glad I got a three year warranty as standard.

Bluetooth headset disconnects wireless Mighty Mouse

I have a Jabra bluetooth pair of headphones (BT620S) that I use with my Intel iMac. They work great as headphones since they are connecting via A2DP. But they also have the option of being used as a headset, for example with softphones or similar. Only this is useless!
Every time I connect as a headset, my mouse disconnects and the sound result I get is really bad. It's like an inch thick concrete wall is between the headset and the computer, even though I'm sitting immediately in front of it?!
Any ideas? I've tried to unpair and pair both devices again. I also have a wireless Apple keyboard. Thanks!

Wireless Mighty Mouse unresponsive during Bluetooth connection to K800i

Whenever I use Bluetooth to sync my Sony Ericsson K800i with my Mac, I notice that my Wireless Mighty Mouse sometimes becomes slow and unresponsive. I have to switch the mouse off and on again, after switching off Bluetooth on the phone, for the mouse to go back to normal.
I am using a third-party plugin to provide iSync support for this phone, but I don't know if that would make a difference. I never had this issue with my K750i.
Any suggestions would be very welcome!

The combo update rolls up all the patches Apple has released since 10.5 hit the shelves into one monster download; so you don't need to have installed 10.5.3 to install 10.5.4 - you can go from any version. Some users swear that applying the combo update makes for a more reliable Mac, and it fixed my Mac problem.
But beware the combo is over 1/2 Gb in size and will take a good while to download, even on a DSL connection. You can find it on the Apple downloads page at:

There are separate versions for the regular version of MacOS X and the more specialised server edition, so make sure you download the correct version (most people just need the file named Mac OS X 10.5.4 Combo Update).
Once you've got the update, close any applications you are running (remembering to save your data), double-click the update to start and follow the instructions. You will have to restart your machine at the end of the installation and rebooting may take a little longer than normal - this only happens the first time you restart your machine. Hopefully you'll be back in business as soon as you see the login prompt.

Wireless Mighty Mouse has stopped selecting, cutting or pasting

My batteries ran out two days ago. I changed the batteries but since then my wireless Mighty Mouse will not select text, cut or paste. It has other erratic behavior. Any help and advice welcomed.

Latest boot camp + wireless mighty mouse

I was using boot camp 1.01, I just upgraded to the latest version of boot camp. Now, my wireless mighty mouse scroll doesn't work on the WinXP side. Does anyone know how to get it working again?
In the bluetooth area in WinXP, it doesn't show the mouse, but the mouse works. I tried to add it but it doesn't find it.

Not correct. I did the complete install with my bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The firmware has low level basic support for bluetooth and it recognized my keyboard and mouse immediately. Once have finished loading xp and installed the apple drivers, you will need a usb mouse. Once the apple bluetooth driver is loaded, you won't beable to pair your keyboard and mouse until you have gone to the bluetooth control panel in xp. All you need is the mouse to do the pairing. Just have it discovery your mouse and keyboard and select to pair without using the code authentication. The caveat to this is that your keyboard loses it pairing when you start up and you will need to turn if off then on to repair. It might loss the pairing later on if you do not use the keyboard for a while. Just turn it off and on again and it will re-pair.

That file is located in Macintosh HD>library>preferences. Sometimes (rare, but it happens) preference files become corrupted - causing all sorts of odd behavior.
If that does not help, try resetting the PRAM:

If that does not fix the problem, take the mouse to an Apple store or call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty issue. Apple does replace things under warranty at no cost (shipping paid both ways). I have had a mouse and keyboard replaced in the past and was pleased with the service.

Wireless Mighty Mouse Disc

I left my install disc in a hotel room in San Francisco.
I can not find the drivers for the Wireless Mighty Mouse anywhere on Apple's site. Do I have to buy another mouse just to get the drivers? Why doesn't Apple have the option to download them?
Am I missing something?

Have you tried with the disc. Drivers for the wired Mighty Mouse are in Tiger 10.4.7. Maybe they will work with the wireless. If it doesn't work, and Apple won't send you a new disk, you could try SteeerMouse

There is a free trial, and it costs a lot less than a new mouse. It might not work without the Apple drivers, but it won't cost anything to try it.

the mighty mouse with wires would display a mouse (http://mightyillusions.blogspot.com/2006/06/apple-mighty-mouse-optical-illusion. html) but with the new wireless mighty mouse, it uses lasers. anyone who bouhgt the wireless mouse- does it still show a mouse? if not what does it show? jus curious.

No image at all - it's an IR laser. I suppose it could still be displaying an image, but you can't see it.
