My iPod is sad.
iPod displays a "sad iPod" icon.
What does this picture on my iPod mean?
Also, there is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon or the folder and ! icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • Apple Sad iPod Battery + ! for .5 Seconds...

    Yep.
My mini iPod died. I just get an Apple >> Sad iPod >> Battery + <!> for about half a second, then it repeats.
I've tried to reset it about 24x, and even tried to get the disk boot to come up - which it did twice, but only for about 20-30 seconds, then it was back to the Apple.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
Edit: Oh, and when I plug it into the wall this just repeats, and if I plug it into the computer via USB it just sits on 1/4 of the "charging" icon and doesn't move at all!

  • Ipod touch wont load past apple screen. I have tried resetting by holding home button and on/off but after it resets it still only loads to the apple screen. When I plug the device in It stays on the apple screen and itunes does not recognize it?

Ipod touch wont load past apple screen. I have tried resetting by holding home button and on/off but after it resets it still only loads to the apple screen. When I plug the device in It stays on the apple screen and itunes does not recognize it? I fear it may be stuck in some sort of reset loop which is stopping itunes from recognizing it. How do I go about the process of sending it in to apple if I cannot find a fix? Thank you in advance, it is greatly appreciated!!

    - See if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.
    - If not successful and you can't turn the iPod fully off (that is required to place in recovery mode), then let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the reset, restore again
    - Then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apples store.

  • Sad iPod/battery??

Okay. When I try to just turn my iPod on, it shows the sad iPod logo. When I try to reset it (toggle the hold, menu and select, etc) the screen just goes blank, then the apple logo shows up, and then the sad iPod logo again.
When I try to plug it into my computer (PC) it flashes back and forth between the sad iPod and the battery/lightning logo. I tried leaving it in my computer for over an hour and it still just flashed the two.
When I try charging it with the charger into an outlet, it just shows the sad iPod and doesn't charge at all.
    Any suggestions?
I bought the thing on ebay well over a year ago, so I know I don't have warranty, but would an apple store still be able to help at all?

  • 40 GB iPod Battery drains when mac is powered off

If I leave my iPod in the cradle ( connected via firewire) and the Mac is powered OFF, the battery will be drained in a few hours (or overnight). If I leave the iPod sitting wherever (not connected to anything), the battery will not be drained... normal.
I assume then that the Mac (G4 867) is sucking the juice out of the battery when the Mac is powered off. Is this a Firewire port issue or ?
I don't always leave my Mac on, and I don't always take the iPod out of its cradle... how can I stop this from happening?
    G4 867   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iPod Click 40GB

Is this a Firewire port issue or ?
I remember a few people mentioning this problem last year, and I think the consensus was that it's a Firewire port issue, and the only solution really is to take the iPod out of the dock when the computer is turned off. (It might work to have an external powered Firewire hub, I don't know if the computer would shut that down or not).

  • HT1339 ipod display says please wait very low battery

what can i do to restore my ipod classic?

    Really
Which model of iPod do you actually have?
An iPod Classic does not use iOS 3.1.3 (as noted in your tags) or any other iOS.
If the display says "please wait, low battery" - have you charged it up?
Why do you want to Restore your iPod, whichever model it actually is?
To Restore and iPod, connect it to iTunes, look on the iPod's Summary pane and select Restore. Note that Restore will delete everything from your iPod.
iPods can be Reset, which often sorts out minor problems. How to Reset depends which iPod you have.

  • Sad face then funny battery signal please help!!!

Hi there, I bought my ipod mini about 3 weeks ago, turned it on a few days ago, first I get the Apple logo, followed by a sad ipod icon, then a battery signal which shows it has slightly charged with a bolt of lightening across it!! I have tried everything - resetting, updated all the software, bought a new USB cable, I can't restore through the updater as it won;t recognise the restore function please help!!!

Hey man...I have the EXACT same Ipod with the EXACT same problem. I went to the apple store and they told me I had to wait 3 days to make an appointment with a "Mac Genius" to look at it and that with all the repairs done it would probably cost me $150. Frustrated, I went home and did some research and heres what I found:

I kid you not. So basically I put the wall charger on, let it charge for 3 hours. Took it off the wall plug and then slapped the $#!t out of it 4 or five times. Then turned it on. Same sad face. Tried a combination of the reboot procedure and slapping around and now it works! Good luck and hope it works for you too!

  • What is wrong with my Ipod when it turns on but, only goes till you see the apple and than turns off

My Ipod gen. 4 flashes the apple on and off. My Itunes account doesn't see I have my Ipod on the USB.What can I do to fix it? What is my issues?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I'm having the same problem with my new 80 gb iPod video. It was playing songs fine for a few days and then one day this week it just froze in the middle of a song and started having the same problems that you described. I've created an iPod repair request and after one day have still not received a response.

  • IPOD Touch pausing when power adaptor cut off

I listen to my IPOD Touch in my car using an Apple power adaptor. With my two previous IPODs, when I turned off the car, cutting power to the IPOD adaptor, the IPOD would pause, allowing me to resume play from that point when I returned. But my Touch keeps right on playing and I have to manually pause it before getting out of the car. Is there a setting that will make it pause when it loses external power?

Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and restore via iTunes.

  • Sad ipod icon wont go away

my click wheel ipod displays a sad icon and is not recognized by updater, itunes or my computer. When I plug into the power cord it cycles through the apple logo, the sad ipod then low battery display. I have tried the R's, software reinstall but nothing seems to work. The trouble seems to be in the ipod. I have had a Dell DJ for 2 years and not one problem. I purchased the ipod in May from the apple site and it worked fine for a month. Whats the deal apple.

It would change the time and date and everytime i'd turn it to the correct date it would go back when i clicked a new app. it wouldn't load apps corectly because of this date and time problem. So i decided to erase everything and start fresh. But now it won't even load properly it just stays on the apple screen with the loading spin thing stuck. someone please guide me into fixing this problem

  • Need Advice Sad IPOD Icon to return or not - its now mysteriously working!

I have experienced a sad ipod icon on my 60G ipod - it was totally dead and I was unable to restore etc.
I went through all the appropriate support steps (the R's - wait 30 min. etc) all to no avail.
I then reported it to apple support and requested a return for warranty work.
    THEN -
The next day ~ 24 hours later - VOILA!
Before I am to send my favorite consumer electronic device in the history of man - BOOM! - the ipod starts working normally!!
    What am I to do?
This little fella is the electronic center of my life - I have all my pics and music in it - and I can't just buy another one - BUT - I'm afraid to send it back to Apple and have an excessive "diagnostic fee" applied.
    Any ideas -
Do you guys think this problem will happen again?
Is the HD corrup / will it get corrupt again?

    I have this exact same problem. I've had my ipod less than a year, but did not buy it from the ipod website, so I'm guessing no warranty? I would attempt to update it but the computer won't recognize it. When I plug it into the computer it first displays the apple, then the sad ipod logo then a quarter filled battery "charging" logo that freezes on the screen for a few minuters before it rotates through that again... if I try to put it into the disk mode...just the sad ipod icon again. ;-;
If its a bad hard drive is all the music lost? Even if its sent in for repairs?
I don't think dropping it would be a good thing...ever...
