Apple Screen when starting

During Christmas break, I started using my iPod less. I stayed home most of the time and listened to iTunes on my computer. After days of not even turning the iPod on, the apple screen starts up and stays for a couple of seconds. Then the screen will come on. Once it didn't come up at all. I tried flipping it on lock on and off and pressing buttons but nothing worked. So I connected it to my computer and then it popped up.
It showed the apple screen recently a couple of days ago...but I was using my iPod more already.
I know it's not a big deal but I'm just curious. Is it normal to show the apple screen when starting your iPod if it hasn't been used over a week?
I'm sorry if this was answered already.

  • Mac shuts down automatically on gray apple screen when starting up

My mac was having the issue of the curser being a color wheel and just spinning on startup. I have cleared applications list, verify and repaired permissions but nothing has worked to keep my mac from locking up and spinning. Finally I restarted pressing cmd and "R" to get to disc utility to find out I need to reformat. But now when starting up gets to the gray screen with the apple logo and shows the load bar underneith and can not get to the desktop. Once it loads my mac just shuts down. This happens over and over if I continue to restart. I have accessed the disc utility from startup and tried to verify and repair but it says that I need to reformat because of a hard drive error but I need to backup my mac before doing that since I have a LOT of sensitive information on my computer. The issue is, I can not boot to desktop regularly or in safe mode to backup my mac. This is my work computer so I am unable to do anything at work until this gets fixed which means I am loosing money. Please help me boot to my desktop so I can get this backed up and reformated asap.

  • Why is my G5 is stopping on the grey+apple logo screen when starting up?

My G5 is stopping on the grey+apple logo screen when starting up and fans run faster than usual after a couple minutes. I have read many of the posts related here, but it seems none are exactly what I am experiencing. Here is what I have done:
+Disconnected all peripheral devices (except for keyboard and mouse).
+Unplugged power cord and plugged back in.
    +Unplugged ethernet cable.
    +Removed added memory.
+Reset the SMU button on the logic board.
+Reset the PRAM by pressing Command-Option-P-R keys. It makes its second start up chime but I still get the grey screen.
+After opening the disc door with a paper clip, started up while pressing "C" with Hardware Test CD which found no problems.
+However, also started up with Systemworks disc and ran Disc Doctor, but I get an "unexpected problem, Error found: disk error" while "Checking Directories: Catalog Structure". When trying to run Speed Disc, my hard drive doesn't even show up in the window to select it. Nor does it show up in Disk Viewer.
I have not tried to start up from the original Mac Startup or installation disc that came with the computer. I am not at my G5 right now (having to use the internet at work). If I start up with that disc, will I loose any work (if I haven't already) that I haven't backed up?
Also, the G5 manual suggests replacing the lithium battery inside the tower if I am having problems starting up. I have not read to do this anywhere else except in the manual. It mentions having problems with the date and time which I haven't so I doubt it's the battery.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Tony
    G5 Power Mac   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

First and foremost you should never use Norton Utilities Disk Doctor or Speed Disk. They will corrupt your hard drive. NUM is not compatible with modern Macs and is no longer supported by Symantec. I highly recommend you uninstall it. You will find instructions here.
    You should do the following:
Boot from your Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button, then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu . After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If this does not fix the problem, then it's possible your system files have been damaged in which case you may need to reinstall OS X. You can do this by an Archive and Install which does not require erasing the hard drive. However, the hard drive must be verified as OK per the preceeding intructions.

  • No back light or black screen when starting, no back light or black screen when starting

My screen on my MacBook Pro went black on me last night while working on the computer. I'm wanting to know how to fix it. I tried starting it in safe mode by holding down the Shift key when starting it but that did not work. I unplugged everything..just the power cord and still nothing. I also tried control, option PR and still nothing. I went to remove the battery but saw it takes a special three pronged screw driver. Which I will get if that is the issue. Can anyone offer any other suggestions.. I don't want to spend the money on repairs if someone could help.

try doing an SMC reset the following article tells how:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
if there is still nothing on the display i would take to apple store or service provider so they can see if it's a video or graphics card issue on the mac.

  • Grey loading screen when start up + unable to start from disc

When I start up my MBP I get a very slow grey loading screen. After a while it starts up my mac and it runs like normal. So no i finally got sick of the 10 min waiting before start up, I decided to re-instal from disc. When i normally insert the disc it starts. then I select the Instal and it rebooths. But it stays on a grey screen when reboothing.
I also tryed to start it up with C and with holding alt and then selecting the cd. With C i get the same grey screen(Without loading bar and mac logo) and with Alt it just get stuck at selecting the cd.
When I go to Disk Utility then I can use Check disk but not the delete one.
I don't need to back up, just want it to work fine again.
I hope you can help me out.

Hi Arthur, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
While booted from the install disc, have you opened Disk Utility and checked SMART status and run Repair Disk?

  • My Mac Won't leave the grey apple screen at start-up.

    Hey,
My macbook, when it starts, will just stay at the grey apple screen with the loading thing under it. I've tried turning it off, turning it back on, Doing the Command COntrol Power thing, and nothing seems to work.
    How can I fix this?

yes, i have the same problem exactly, and according to another thread, it seems to be happening to macbook users who upgrade to the latest itunes. my fix can get you macbook up and running, tho it requires an external drive. your 'can't install' message may be a sign of something more serious now tho- it could be your internal drive's data is lost.
anyway, plug in an external fw/usb2 drive so the leopard install disk can see it for installing on to. my internal drive showed up as an option, but i chose to install to the external. after this was finished, i booted off the external, and there was all my data, available from the internal drive (still couldn't boot from it tho) after saving what i wanted to save, i then used the install disc to do a reinstall using the 'archive and install, preserve user and network' option, under the option/custom button.
back to macbook! btw, the external need to be formatted using a 'guid' flag (it's for intel booting), so if your external's not in this format, it will need to be repartitioned. (it's always something!)

  • How to avoid blank screen when starting?

When starting my mac book air, it only shows a blank screen, any suggestions to get back to normal?

    Hi Daniel,
By blank do you mean that the screen is black? Is it gray? Is it blue? The word "blank" is vague when trying to determine and isolate startup issues.

  • Blue error screen when starting up HP G60-230US

Recently, my laptop gave me an error blue screen when trying to start up.  It said something along the lines of "There was an error and the computer was stopped from starting to prevent damage."  After doing some research, I thought the problem was my hard drive.
I installed a replacement and installed Windows XP.  It seemed to install as it should, but again as the computer was trying to load windows, I got the blue screen again. A friend thought maybe my fan wasn't working and the computer was overheating as a result.  After checking, the fan seems to be working properly.
    Any ideas or suggestions?  Thanks.

o right.  i was confusing this computer with another one i have by thinking it used xp.  i can't seem to find the vista disc (if the computer actually came with one).  is vista the only version of windows that would work on the computer?  if i can, i'd like to install either xp or 7.

  • Why does my iPhone 5c go to black apple screen when I unlock it?

When using my messaging, if my phone locks when I unlock it, it goes directly to the black apple screen that usually appears when turning my phone on. Then it will eventually go back to my messages. Does anyone know why it's doing this and how to fix it?

    Hi MrsBarnett10,
If you are having an issue with your iPhone not unlocking normally while using Messages,   you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Airport Extreme card installed, eMac stuck on gray Apple screen at start-up

I just installed an Airport Extreme card on my eMac (USB 2.0). When I try to boot, it gets stuck on the gray Apple screen, with the spinning gray "spokes." The card is pushed as far as it will go into the slot, and the antenna is all the way in as well. When I take the card out, the computer boots up fine. I tried installing the software first, but it doesn't appear to be installed after it does the required restart for new software. I'm not sure if I have the software already...
At any rate, the biggest issue is that it won't boot past the gray screen. Any thoughts? (I have a version of Tiger, though I'm not sure exactly which because I'm sick of the un/install process at the moment, and am staring at the gray screen.)

Hi, I have a 1GHz eMac ATI and had a problem installing my Airport Extreme card as well. It would boot fine, but the card would not connect. It turned out that the card was not seated properly and maybe this is something for you to look at.
If you look at the Airport slot with the card and cover removed you will see the end of a black plastic guide bar on the right of the slot when viewed from the front of the machine. (Assuming the ATI eMac and USB 2.0 are the same in this regard) When the card and the aerial are fully seated home, the silver top of the aerial plug should be just about level with the front end of the black plastic bar, just a whisker or 2 sticking out. If it is more than this (more than say 1-2mm - 1/16th inch) then your card is not far enough in to be connected properly. Believe me I found this out through trial and error and there is not much difference between the right position and not.
It is not just a matter of pushing harder, you need to wiggle it slightly up and down and push firmly with 2 fingers, one on each side so that the force is evenly distributed. Mine needed just a smidgeon more force than what it took to slide the machine back - try it a little bit at a time. Put it up against a wall so it doesn't slide back, but don't apply excessive force. Part of the problem is that is hard to get your fingers in there to do the job.
    Hope this helps.

  • White apple screen at start-up

My 2008 MacBook 13" does not boot, and has not for approximately 9 months now.  At start-up, my computer enters a white Apple logo screen with the "loading" pinwheel underneath.  The boot process does not progress past this point.  I'm assuming it's a hard drive failure, but perhaps the gurus here can lift my spirits?  Tried starting with the Command button held to select a boot device; however, selecting the HDD did nothing to alleviate the issue.
