Apple Screens of Death, Flickering, and Black-outs Galore

Should I downgrade to the older version? 2.0 seems to be filled with new problems.
Since I upgraded it, I've gotten the apple screen of death several times, including today. I can usually fix this problem by resetting it.
Today, it just blacked out. I couldn't get it to work. I tried syncing it and it seemed like it was syncing, but I still couldn't see anything on the iPhone. Not even the Apple logo.
I disconnected and reconnected it, and it attempted to upgrade its software (even though I'm on 2.0). Tried again, and it couldn't detect the iPhone anymore and said it needed to restore.
Still no screen. I did one final sync, and the screen showed up and it was working again.
At work today, I received an important business call. While speaking with a prospect, I had to look something up in Omnifocus on my iPhone. As soon as I clicked on the app icon, it gave me the Apple screen of death. I wasted about 10 minutes resetting it.
On 1.1.4, I had always had issues in the "voicemail" section where the screen would flicker on and off. I've got the same issue now; it's just work. I try to listen to my voicemail, and instead I have to wait for my screen to actually show up as it flickers on and off, with long periods of "off."
Then there's the battery life issue. I was only in work for 6.5 hours today, and it was fully charged when I arrived at work. I had 3 or 4 phone calls on my cell, lasting about 30-40 minutes altogether. That's pretty much all I did on it. Once it was time for me to leave work, I had under 20% of battery life left. That's pathetic.
What is Apple doing to address these problems? The MobileMe homepage still isn't up for most users yet.
Who else has these issues? Has anybody managed to solve them? If I need to restore, I will. I just don't want to do that if it won't fix it.

Do this.
Go to the Apple Support page and type in your serial number. When the screen comes up showing that Serial number having Applecare extended warranty take a screen shot of it or Print it out to a PDF file and then Print a Hard Copy of either of those things. Take that with you when you take your Mac in to be looked at.
Good Luck with the Lenovo. I hear they are the same quality as when IBM was making them. Personally I have always used Dell Business Class notebooks and have never had any problems with them. Still have one that is going on 11 years old and it still runs as good as the day I bought it, actually a little better because I've upgrade the CPU, GPU. RAM and HDD.

  • Photoshop Creative Cloud flickers and blacks out

I posted this in the Creative Cloud forum, but was told to post it here.   I am sure it is only a Photoshop Creative Cloud problem.
I am using Photoshop Creative Cloud, on trial.  I have been using Photoshop, desktop version, for 20 years. Never saw this problem on it.
PS CC flickers and blacks out.  Many times, many different files, many different actions cause this.    Right now, I am editing a photo, and using the Magic Wand tool to select areas that I will remove from photo.   PS CC is flickering on my screen, on/off.    Sometimes it goes completely black.
I can see the menus, but the image itself is flickering on/off.  Mostly off.
    Thanks

Yes flecking is a common problem.  If happen for many bugs. That is why I posted the search instead of trying to answer your question for you posted little information bout your problem.  In the guidelines you will see
    =============================
Supply pertinent information for quicker answers
The more information you supply about your situation, the better equipped other community members will be to answer. Consider including the following in your question:
    Adobe product and version number
    Operating system and version number
The full text of any error message(s)
What you were doing when the problem occurred
    Screenshots of the problem
Computer hardware, such as CPU; GPU; amount of RAM; etc.
    =================================================
Information like that help to identify if you have a known problem from what your using and help pinpoint where the problem may be .   Even if you have the latest OS it its updates. The latest video driver and the latest Photoshop update does not mean you will not have any software and hardware bugs. Just because there have be problem reported about flecking in Photoshop in all supported Platforms OS versions  does not mean that there is a single common problem in Photoshop.  All it means is that flickering is a common side effect caused by bugs.

  • Macbook Pro screen showing green line and blacks out all the time

My macbook pro have been recently showing green horixontal line all over the screen at times , and it goes away  after restarting couple of times, after i log in the screen black outs after couple of minutes and sometimes the screen act weird

I would suspect that there is a hardware component failing. I would take it in for diagnosis.

If you have not done a factory reset on the device, I recommend doing a complete  factory reset.
Factory Reset  - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
This method will not erase any MDN/MIN information
    Turn off the phone
Press Power + Volume Up/Down at the same time and hold until display will show a triage android screen
    Display will show:
    Reboot system Now

  • *I CAN REPRODUCE AT WILL* the Apple Screen of Death

I've been tip-toeing around my iPhone for week afraid I might send it into "reboot"... "just Apple" mode. Just when you it's restarting... 20 minutes, 30 minutes.... hours later (until it does). Still just Apple. I've read the forums and tried all of the tricks and I can only get it back up and running if I completely restore the phone. Luckily I got into the mode of doing it's 3-4 hours back up every other night. (Don't get me started on that).
I can't solve the problem, but I now know what I will stop doing. Here are the steps that I have used to semi-brick my phone:
    1. Wait until an update is available in the App Store (on the iPhone).
    2. On the iPhone initiate the update of the App.
    3. Wait a few seconds for the app to appear to be downloaded on the home screen.
    4. Then go BACK into the App Store (while the other app is still upgrade... I would assume it would pause or whatever)
    5. I then went in to the Search section of the App Store, which already had a few apps displayed from a previous search. I clicked on one of them to view the description.
    6. At this point the phone is completely unresponsive. The grid cleared, but the description never came. So I tap a few other tabs in the App Store, hit the home button a few times.... then BOOM. Apple Screen of Death.
I'm restoring again (this is my 5th time). I am 100% certain that I closely if not exactly went through the same steps go have the problem occur. Don't shoot me... I know I'm an idiot, but at one point I was hoping the firmware would resolve the issue. Then last time I just got cocky.
The other 2 time that I crashed I was using app's that I had troubles updating on the iphone. They were larger apps and I was doing other things while the update was going.
So my advice.... do your app downloads and updates on you computer. If you HAVE to do them on the phone, kick it off and stare at its progress bar... keep it awake until finished.
Not sure if that helps anyone, but I thought I'd throw this out there. Off to add a bug report to Apple.

*Honestly people here is the solution! I promise it works!*
*Go into iTunes Edit/Preferences the last tab sync disable auto sync for all iPod and iPhones. This does not fix it it is just the first step do not stop here.*
*Next connect your iPhone to the computer. Once it shows up in iTunes go into the last tab Applications. Uncheck sync all apps. not Click apply. Now click sync. it will remove all the applications! After it is finished unplug the iPhone. I bet you will have at least one app still on the Iphone, maybe more. Hold any icon down until they jiggle. tap the x's and delete all the remaing apps. You may notice after you delete each app that a little spinning circle is next to your 3G icon on the top right hand side. Let it finish spinning before you delete the next app.*
*Once you have deleted all the remaining apps (That had corrupt data that was causing your long back ups!) do a hard reset. To do this hold the sleep/wake button and the home button until the red slider appears at the top of the screen. Slide it over and the phone will power off. You will again notice the spinning circle. Once it finishes wait a few seconds and power the iPhone back on by pressing the sleep/wake button.*
*While it is booting back up go into iTunes again turn the auto sync back on! Now connect the iPhone to the computer, let it backup and sync. I bet you a million dollars it goes so fast you want to cry or laugh. Now after it finishes go back to the applications tab. Click sync apps again, but make sure you have the 2nd circle checked. This box is sync selected apps. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked! Now slowly begin adding apps back to the iPhone. I have done as many as 5 at a time. Check the boxes then click apply, then sync. It will backup then add the applications and sync all other information.*
*Someone try it and confirm to these people it works. I'm willing to put money on it! I have done it on both my iPhones and 4 others.*
*Here is the kicker! DO NOT update or install apps from the phone! Only use iTunes to install and or update apps until they get the bug fixed!*
I am willing to bet that corrupt or jsut apps are causing a load of the issues people are having.

  • The built in screen in my Macbook keeps blacking out, even though the computer is on.

    Hi
The internal screen on my Macbook keeps blacking out; when this happens the computer is still on - just no screen. This happens when unplugged after a few seconds, and takes a bit longer when plugged in.
If I close the lid and open it again the screen works again for a few seconds before the blackout returns. Obviously this is not the ideal work scenario!
It does not appear that this is a backlight issue (I presume) as I cannot see any image on the screen when this happens from any angle.
If I turn the brightness all the way down and then back up again the screen flicks on for a fraction of a second before anything happens again.
Any ideas what might be causing this? If I can fix it? And/or how much an Apple repair of the problem is likely to cost.
    Many thanks for your help!
    Martin Faint

Unfortunately it sounds like the logic board... happened on a MB I have at work. That's an Apple Store replacement, and can be expensive if your mac's out of warranty. Free if it's still covered...

You should try taking the battery out and putting it back in, but then if that doesn't work, you should take it into your Apple Retail Store and have a genius at the Genius Bar take a look. That seems like a hardware problem to me.

  • My Mac Pro starts up when I turn on the power, BEFORE I switch it on with the button, why? Plus, my computer keeps freezing and blacking out.

My Mac Pro starts up when I turn on the power supply (when I plug it to the outlet), BEFORE I switch on the button on the computer, why is this happening? Plus, my computer keeps freezing and blacking out and I'm forced to restart it, that's when the compter starts on its own when I turn on the power.

    Hello Engender,
I should have followed up with a progress report because I eventually eliminated all the problems I was having with my Mac Pro, now it's behaving like a new computer… beautifully.   I did originally take Grant's advice above, changing the setting that I had in the System Preferences > Energy Saver but that only stopped from rebooting on its own when I shut down my Mac properly.  Otherwise it continued to restart on its own after freezing or crushing when I switched on the power.  I took my machine to the Apple Store and after many tests they couldn't find anything wrong with it.  I was very depressed about the whole business.
It was after going onto many of the other Apple related websites that I discovered that it wasn't a faulty power switch or fan, as as I originally thought, but found out that my problem was related to the Graphic Card and possibly I did not have enough ram (I had the original amount of 2 GB).  The original card that came with the computer: 512 MB ATI Radeon X1900 XT was over heating and forcing my machine to shut down, I think it was because I had upgraded to OSX Lion which on its own requires at least 2 GB of ram to operate well.  I added 4 GB of Ram to the 2GB I had (4GB kit (2GBx2), Apple 240-pin FBDIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 upgrades for Apple Mac Pro (4-core) 1st Gen. - 2006-2007 Desktop/PC, CT579443 from Crucial.com about $160 for the set) and replaced the Graphic Card with ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB from Apple (around $260), (ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro (Mid 2010) - Apple Store (U.S.))  This card works very well with my original Mac Pro 2008.  I installed it about two weeks ago and no problem with it starting on its own, over heating or freezing.  OSX Lion works well and I'm thinking of upgrading to Mountain Lion once I learn that my Mac Pro 1.1  will work with the new hardware I installed.
Your problem could just be the power cord but I agree with you that doesn't sound right, when I mentioned faulty switch I meant the part where the power cord meets the power button, the unit which houses the power distribution, I thought at first that it could be faulty but changed my mind because of the computer overheating.
I don't know if this is of any help to you but I hope your trouble will be solved with the new cord.

  • My secondary monitor flashes and blacks out after the 10.7 install.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have installed 10.7 and the secondary monitor flashes and blacks out.  I downgraded back to 10.6 and the problem went away.  I reinstalled 10.7 and the same problem happened again.  The monitor blacks in and out especially when the pointer is placed in the dock area, but it still happens all the time.  My secondary monitor is a ViewSonic 22 inch that is connected to a DVI to display adapter.  Any solutions??
    Thanks

Talked to AppleCare and it's most likely the fact that my MacBook has 3.0 USB ports and my non official charging cable can't support that. So yeah, I'll try a new cable, hopefully that's the fix.

  • How do I get my Iphone 4S screen to stop flickering and jumping?

My 15 month old Iphone 4S's screen has recently starting jumping and flickering and will not stop.
First began in my camera but would stop when I turned the camera to the front to see my face, then when switched back to the other side it would begin jumping again, (roughly a month ago). Then it started happening in any apps that involved my camera, snapchat, instagram, etc. today.
Now, my screen always flickers and jumps in all apps and when on my home and lock screen.
    IOS is up to date.
    No cracks on screen.
Continues to do so even after resetting and restoring iphone, and changing my brightness up and down.
    Background moving is turned off.
Flickering is worse at the bottom of the screen.
Screen was replaced six months ago.

Sorry I can't help but I literally just posted the exact same thing on this website my 4s screen on camera flickers and jumps and in snapchat and slo pro ( slo motion camera ) will this turn to the home screen aswell I've already had a problem with the screen once !!

  • I signed up and paid for nba apple tv.  Every game is blacked out.  How do I get my money back or get the program to work?

I signed up for apple tv nba  a few weeks ago.  After I paid, I went in and picked 5 teams.  Everyone of them are blacked out on everyone of their games.  What am I doing wrong or can I get my money back?

I thought I ordered Adobe Reader.  Had information from your company that I was charged $13.00 and some change, I think that was the amount, after I completed my credit card information.  Can’t find it – guess it wasn’t an email.  Anyway, I will order whatever I have to in order to be able to open the pdf files as I need to see them for my work with the government.  What do I need to do?  I need it today.  And what is the cost for export pdf?

    Macbook Pro:
When I raise the lid after sleeping, the screen comes on momentarily then backs out.  If I close the lid and raise it again, the same thing happens.  It is sometimes necessary to force quit.  Once restarted, there is no problem unless the lid is closed for a short time and the machinge goes to sleep.

  • White screen of death going temporarily black screen of death.

I have a iphone4s that went white-screen-of-death on me just last week. recently its now giving me a multi-coloured screen show, and a finale of black-screen-of-death. Not sure what to do, and whether its worth going to the apple store when I can't afford repairs, and its a year out of warranty. I can still answer calls, or access apps, etc, but can't see what I'm actually doing.

  • Has anyone experience Mac Book Pro screen went alien green and black?

Hi...I was using my mac when the screen suddenly turned alien green and black, I can still use it though (like save the file and so on). It turn alright after you restart the computer, but I'm afraid if something has gone wrong.Does anyone ever experience the same problem? Does anyone know what is wrong with my mac? I start using this computer since November 2008. Cheers!

    Update:
I brought it into the Apple Store near my house once. Booted up fine twice. Brought it back, because the green and black vertical lines, and the inversion of colors froze the computer 4 times after the visit. The Apple Genius ran a MacBook Pro NVIDIA graphics card test, which went well until it FAILED one of the tests.
I had the option to have it fixed in the course of a week, but I thought that since it froze only a few times, that I could work through it (I have important final projects coming up), but now it won't start up. I will have to have Apple ship it away to fix it, because they are behind in their repair shop in the store. So, I will be without it for a week.
They said it had something to do with the logic board, which I think is part of the motherboard. So, I am glad I backed up most of my projects' data, as they said they might have to erase data when they fix it.
So, save your files onto external media (HD, flash drive, CDs, DVDs, etc.), and don't let this problem persist; have an Apple Genius check it out, so that you're not in my boat.
I wish you the best in your troubleshooting!

  • Full screen video on 2nd monitor blacks out 1st screen

When I play a video full screen on a second monitor, iTunes blacks out the first screen and I can't see the Windows desktop. Is there a way around this?

I'm having this problem as well. Apparnetly the world thinks this is acceptable behavior. I do not. I'm trying to work and feed video from iTunes to an HDTV next to me. Why in the world would I want my 3 other monitors to blank???
Tripply amazing is that it's worked this way for quite a long time. Apple isn't fixing it, so they must think this is a great FEATURE.
