Apple Shop Lied!

I just purchased a Time capsule and was looking forward to set it up, having had a conversation with a member of the apple team. Basically i purchase the TC to enable me to have a wireless external hard drive with 802.11n, and do it quickly. However, i asked specifically if i could connect to both my wireless internet and my time capsule, without connecting the two together, so i could access the TC myself wirelessly through 802.11n and then connect to the wireless internet network in my house (which is only 802.11g), and keep the TC all for myself. But having set the TC up this doesn't seem possible! I can connect it to the netgear internet wireless router but then only get 480kbps speeds which is not what you want when you have 500gb of TC space to play with, and i dont want it to be the only wireless network.
So after all this what i'm trying to say is that i want to connect to both the TC and my shared wireless internet and use them simultaneously, but not have the TC connected through the wireless so i can experience the full speeds of the TC. Which is what the member of the apple team promised me i could do!
Many Thanks
Wozza

Is the Mac that you are using wireless N enabled? If so, why not set up a dual band network? Just set the TC to run in bridge mode broadcasting an 802.11n only (5 GHz) network and connect the TC via ethernet directly to a LAN port on your existing router. Give the TC a different SSID than your current router, and you'll have a network with two wireless access points - one G and one N. You'll be able to connect to the TC using N speeds (5 GHz N gives you faster transmit rate than 2.4 GHz N, but lower range) and any G devices connected to your network will be able to access the TC's HDD and devices connected to the TC without slowing down the network's N speeds.
