Apple should allow a method to revert to iOS 5

I had been avoiding iOS 6 due to the known problems with the inferior maps app.  Recently, due to a hardware problem, Verizon had to send me a new iPhone 4.  Configuring the phone hung up several times but eventually I restored my data. Unfortunately iOS 6 downloaded automatically and now I find there is no (legal) method to revert.
This is unacceptable.  Apple has put out an inferior OS and then doesn't let people revert.   I have owned Apple equipment since the original Macintosh and am saddened by Apple's hubris.  After this fiasco and the very difficult transition to OS 10.7, I see Google and Samsung pulling ahead of Apple and will certainly look at their products the next time I need to make an upgrade.  No one stays on the top forever.

If you're only issue is Apple Maps, Google is actually working on a Google Maps app for the iPhone.  That should at least resolve that issue.

Apple should make a server hardware/OS with iOS level security. This could compete well with the breach infested pre secure OS/hardware server systems like Windows Linux OSX.  It should be structurally immune to phishing etc and could be sold easily as a secure alternative.  It should be based on structural hardware based security as has been demonstrated in the iOS operating system and the hardware should be made in secure facilities in the US.  Those Chinese put weaknesses into the hardware they make as has been documented on 60 minutes.

Apple's entry in the server market has come and gone - is there a question in there somewhere?

  • Apple should allow for apps to be restricted to using cellular data only (i.e., I don't want it to use wi-fi)

I was just thinking about something after a friend/co-worker mentioned that he has a particular app that does not work when connected to our Wi-Fi signal because of having to then pass the traffic through a proxy; he has to disable Wi-Fi on his iDevice to make the app connect over cellular data instead, which works as intended.  My immediate thought was that Apple should add a feature in iOS that allows you to restrict apps to connecting over cellular and not allow them to connect over Wi-Fi.  I can think of lots of reasons but the most prevalent would be so that certain traffic would not pass through monitoring/filtering appliances at a company that could violate computer-usage policies.  If the app was forced to only gain access over cellular connections , while leaving other apps fully able to talk over Wi-Fi (if so desired), it would eliminate this problem as well as others.
I know disabling cellular data either completely or on a per-app basis is an option, and has been for a long time, so why not the opposite?

Then why are you posting it on a technical support forum populated by users? Apple doesn't participate here. They won't see it. Use the contact us link at the bottom of the page and submit feedback.

  • Apple should honor BB pre-orders

    Here's an idea:
A number of websites are reporting that Apple plans to have iPhone 4s in stock tomorrow for walk-ins. It seems likely that Apple shorted Best Buy in many instances (my local store in Arlington, VA was supposed to get 90 and now is getting only 15 or so). I think Apple should allow customers from Best Buy with pre-orders to go to an Apple Store instead and get their phones that way. Seems only fair. What's everyone think?

The truth is that most pre-order will be filled tomorrow.  So, most of you that were unfortunately promised getting it on the 24th, will probably get it on the 24th.  Unless you ordered a white one, in that case you will still get it before others because your pre-order is still valid.

No, I have not chosen photos to share as I assumed that the Apple TV would access all photos and music that are stored on my iMac.
Thanks for your advice. I will check it out.

  • ER : 10268883 : DROP AS METHOD ACTIVITY ON TASK-FLOW SHOULD ALLOW CHOOSING

    hi
In the context of Re: Task Flow API for programmatically retrieving parameters?, this forum thread is Re: Task Flow API for programmatically retrieving parameters? to get your vote or feedback on one specific ER:
    - 10268883, "AM: DROP AS METHOD ACTIVITY ON TASK-FLOW SHOULD ALLOW CHOOSING PAGEDEF FILE"
It resulted from a suggestion by Steven Davelaar
    at http://groups.google.com/group/adf-methodology/msg/b701acd873c3d888
"I think it would be a nice ADF enhancement that when you drag and drop an AM method as method activity onto a tasflow diagram, you get a choice to either create a new page def, or pick a page def of some other (view) activity already on the taskflow. "
(But, regardless the intent of this forum thread, feel free anytime to pursue other means to attract the attention of Oracle to a specific ER. Possibly by creating a service request referring to an ER, or by any other way you see fit.)

There is a +1 (or would it weigh more than one), "a jolly good idea ", from Duncan Mills.

"Sev 3 is the default status for an Enhancement so that's why it's at that value initially. I've actually upped the priority of this one as I think it's a jolly good idea and I don't really see any downside to it assuming you don't have a huge TFs with many many method activities of which only a small number are used most of the time."

  • Apple should create a new method to verify ourselves.

I think its 'bad' how we must answer security questions to varify ourselves. I'm sure most of us took granted of answering the security questions, without knowing how important it is later on. So I suggest we get another method to varify ourselves:
» Picture identification. Apple will provide us several pictures for us to identify. Pictures should be less than 100KB, so it does not a lot of storage in Apple's database
» More suitable questions for younger account owners (Seriously people under 16 are asked: When did you meet your wife? etc.)
» Send the answers to our email when we first answered it. That way we can use it as refrence when we forgot it.
» Atleast provide clues when we're trying to answer.
» People without credit card do not need to add verification (Unless we want to, add it as an option)
» Verification without cutomer service, I don't see why we have to contact customer service when we forgot the answers, when we can verify ourself here and now using a bot or something
» Varification Option (an option whether apple should prompt us to varify ourselves or not)
I know a lot of you will disagree with some of my opinions, but leave your suggestion below.

  • HT4865 So who believes Apple should be a bit more cautionary about the sharing of iMessages and other content when several members of a family share the same iCloud account and unknowing can audit each other's iMessages, Contacts, and god only knows what

I think Apple should be a bit more cautionary about iCloud and privacy.  My family shares the same iCloud account as we all enjoy the music we collectively purchase on iTunes; we paid Apple for this feature with some kind of grouped account.  We didn't know, however that this joins our devices so that iMessages, contacts, pictures and just about everything else is shared too.  The unprivate default seems to be to share everything between all devices vs. to allow access by exception or by choice (or by password?).  Sure, when my kids get all my texts I can go figure out why and fix it but that is in my mind the antithesis of privacy and could be quite embarrassing for any family.  I guess it is good for stalking the kids or parents though if they don't know about the partyline approach to privacy.  Maybe a tech solution would be to have the iPhone show somehow the extent of its audience to its user.

No argument from me about the vagaries of using and sharing Apple IDs.  This can lead to unintended consequences, especially in a family situation.
If you're sharing the same ID for FaceTime, you might want to go to Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign in with separate IDs there too.  Otherwise, you'll end up getting each other's FaceTime calls.
Also, if you need to migrate everyone's devices to separate iCloud accounts to keep your synced data separated, you can do this by saving any photo stream photos you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.  Once everyone's devices are on separate accounts, you can go to icloud.com and delete each other's data from your accounts.

  • How can i purchase an app of japan store without change my itunes store? i have balance in my US ac so i cant change my stores, but the app i want to purchase in jp store is a free app.... i know apple dun allow balance spend in other countriesbutitisfree

How can i purchase an app of japan store without change my itunes store? i have balance in my US ac so i cant change my stores, but the app i want to purchase in jp store is a free app.... i know apple dun allow balance spend in other countries but it is a free app

You cannot use the Japanese iTunes Store unless are physically present there and have a Japanese payment method. This applies even for free apps; you cannot get them from the Japanese iTunes Store if you are in the US.
If you are in Japan, you can set up a new iTunes Store account just to get free apps. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
If you have moved to Japan and wish to change the country of your account permanently, you can contact the iTunes Store and ask them to clear your remaining balance. You will need to be able to provide a Japanese payment method, though.
    Regards.

  • Accessing US store from non US teritory: instead of disabling ID, Apple should warn us to change country then honor our pass purchases

Apple lately had disabled many its iTunes US stores for accessing the store while they are not in US teritory.  This practice had made its customers unable to access the iTunes iCloud, upgrading the apps both for the apps for the iOS or the software that we purchased for our Mac through the App Store.  In my case, I lost $1000+ of my digital assets suddenly.
Here are my suggestion for Apple for its customer who are accessing US store from Outside US:
AA. "Disalowing New Purchase" With the ability of looking thru IP address when we plan to purchase, Apple should warn any new purchase from US customer who are not in US at the time of new purchases.
BB. "Ask the customer to change country in the setting" then they can purchase any available items for that country.  But still their past purchased should be honored.
I hope Apple give solution instead penalizing suddenly its paying customers.
    Jerry

  • Profile update should allow for change of email address

    Dear sirs,
Member profile update should allow for change of email address otherwise one has to unsubscribe their old email address and re-subscribe the new one.
    Please make it happen.

I worked out the answer to my own question.
    1. Logged into my Apple ID
    2. Editited my Apple ID email address (old) and changed it to my @me.com address (ignored the red warning about Apple ID must not use a domain owned by Apple) and pressed the blue Save Changes button anyway at the bottom of the page.
This created a new Primary Email Address with the @me.com (which needed to be verified etc.)
The Primary Email Address can now also be changed to my @icloud.com address if I wish (which also needs to be verified.
I would now like to be able to use the option to 'Make my Apple ID and Prmary email address one and the same'. So I can finally get rid of my old e-mail address as my Apple ID. It can give me the option to change it to my @icloud.com address, but when I press submit, it does not do anything. This feature does not seem to work yet. I suppose that is another question / request.

found out i couldnt watch a live stream coference because apple wont allow to download adobie flash player. why is this and is there a way around it to be able to catch more of live stream in future.?

    lmdzzr wrote:

In the future, there won't be any Flash. Adobe, who makes it, has cancelled future versions for mobile devices like the iPad:
    http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/11/adobe-kills-mobile-flash/
You should check if there is another way to get the live stream. For example, I sometimes watch online classes on a site that uses Flash for the video. But they also provide a non-Flash video stream that can be watched in an iPhone or iPad web browser, and an iOS app that you can also use to watch the stream.

  • Why java allow start() method only once for a thread

    Hi ,
Why java allows start method only once for thread . suppose
    Thread t = new Thread();
    t.start();
say at later stage if again we call t.start() IllegalStateException is thrown , even though isAlive method returns false.
Hence the question , why start() method is allowed only once.If you need start a thread , we need to create a new instance.

Really. Why do you think that? Do you have any evidence? It is one of the first things I would think of, personally.Considering that the Thread API doesn't allow you to specify a stack address (only stack size), I think it demonstrates they wanted to remove that capability from their Thread API all together. That missing "capability" makes me believe they want me to believe it's not something I need to worry about when using their API... I think the exact semantics of the Thread class and its methods were driven by how to make it most understandable and usable for their customers. I'm certain this issue was one of many that was given considerable thought during the design and implementation of the JVM and the underlying runtime classes.
Do I have any evidence? No. But if you can point me at some first-hand information on this, I'd love to read it. Most of what I've found is second or third hand accounts. (and I mean that sincerely, not as a smart-ass remark or rebuke of your comments).
On the one hand you seem to think the Java API designers are idiots, on the other hand you think that they should be. I can't make it out.I thought my position was that the Java developers were talented enough to implement platform in whatever way their API called for; hence, the designers made a choice about how they wanted their API to be used by their customers. They decided which capabilities they wanted to include or exclude, and created an API that was consistent with their vision for this technology. While I'm certain technical limitations had an effect on the API design, I certainly don't think the API was dictated by the them.
I think the current design of the Java Thread API was a reflection of their vision to make Threading easier and more accessible to Joe Programmer, not limitations in the implementation. I never said it was wrong or that I could do better... I just said I think they could have done something different if they decided it would have made for a better customer experience. But hey, maybe I'm wrong.
