Apple Software Update hangs on Windows 7.

Even after uninstalling iTunes & Apple Software Update, downloading and installing the latest iTunes, still Apple Software Update hangs, see pic:
There is no freeze, but the spinning icon keeps on spinning forever unless the process is killed ('stop' doesn't work).
Any insights please?
Thanks!

  • Local Apple Software Update Server for Windows

Has anyone figured out, how to use Leopard's Software Update Server, as a local Apple Software Update Server for Windows?
As you may know, 10.5 Software Update Server downloads, not only mac updates, but the windows' version of them as well (e.g. Safari, iTunes for windows).
There has to be a way to use that new feature.

    {quote:title=Apple wrote:}
Software Update Server is capable of automatically mirroring updates between
Apple’s software update server and your local server to guarantee that the most
current updates are immediately available. Mac OS X Server also supports hosting
Apple updates for software running in Boot Camp, such as iTunes and QuickTime for
Windows. To ensure security, all updates are digitally signed by Apple.

No idea, how to get it running smoothly yet, however.

  • Apple Software Update-iCloud for Windows

Day 2, still cannot download via Apple Software Update. Either it fails or the progress bar just stops at around 50% downloading. Help!

    Hi All
as first, now I don't have a solution for it. I tried to reinstall of iCloud.exe but no effect.
I have the same problem here. My set up is: Win 7 last update with Outlook 2010 and iCloud 4.0.2, iPhone 5 iOS 7 full update.
In outlook I'm using exchange account and gmail (imap setup) + iCloud (to be sync with my iPhone).
Few weeks ago I realize that synchronization between Outlook and iCloud stopped and it is not working .
I'm not sure by this but I think that this problem could be problem of Windows, Not apple
I found out that If I create totally new windows account (new user). Open outlook and add my gmail + exchange account + iCloud account (so new set up) everything is working correctly and without any problem!
Next what I found out is that If I create new profile in Outlook and I create all my account for that new outlook profile it is not working!
Next what I found out is that if I add different iCloud account is my current outlook profile on my current windows user account (I mean iCloud account I never used before on my Win 7 PC) it is not working anyway
In my case this problem is not connected to iCloud and Outlook generally, I can see problem only if i set up iCloud with my current window user account.
    Another issue is:
If I sign out iCloud from my PC and confirm delete data from my PC.
After that I add the same iCloud to the PC again.
In Outlook I can see that there is no calendar in iCloud group.
All my iCloud calendars are part of main calendar group created by main account in Outlook.
Next problem is that I don't have any special panel with synchronizing icon in outlook/calendar anymore. (I used to have it before that problem in Outlook.
BUT, If I create new windows user account and add my current iCloud account I can see that panel as a last one in Tool bar by clicking calendar icon in outlook.
It means that problematic file has to be somewhere in C:/users/name/appdata/

  • How do I remove an old version of the Apple Software Updater from a Windows XP machine without a software disk?

How do I remove an old version of the Apple Software Updater program from a Windows XP SP3 machine
without an Apple Software disk? I keep getting a message saying that I need such a disk to uninstall
the old program so I can install Itunes software so I can download apps for my new Iphone 5S.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does it go through properly this time?

  • Change the language of Apple Software Update ASU for Windows

    Hi,
I'm leaving in Korea and while having my whole computer in English and even iTunes and Quicktime set in English, the Software Updater is in Korean (which is not very useful as I can't really work my way through it).
_I know_ there has been a post about not solving the problem but avoiding it by changing the language settings, but I still need to keep Korean as a language for non-unicode in my settings as I am still working with some Korean software and else my whole display is just filled with question marks. And trust me, Korean and GoogleTranslate is better than just question marks...
So, any idea ? Or maybe some developper passing by willing to add a little menu or at least give the change to download the updater in English ?
Anyway, thanks for any help you may be willing to give !

but ASU re-installs automatically the language files after reboot when I launch the program
(mutter mutter) My fault, sorry. I assumed that ASU wasn't using advertised shortcuts. We've still got a shot at this, I think.
Try deleting all but the en.lproj folders again.
Now head back into the main Apple Software Update program files folder. Right-click on SoftwareUpdate.exe and select "Create shortcut". Rename the shortcut as you please ("English ASU" perhaps?) and drag it out onto the desktop.
Reboot, and now try launching ASU by doubleclicking on the "English ASU" (or whatever) shortcut. Does it launch in English this time?
(With an advertised shortcut, before launching the program a check is run against the installation database to check to see that all the program files and registry entries that ought to be present are indeed present. If there are some missing, a repair install of the program will run in order to replace the missing files and whatnot. That's what caught us last time. But if we launch her from an ordinary shortcut, then we should be able to avoid the repair install replacing all the missing language resources.)

  • Apple Software Updater On 64-Bit

I run QuickTime Player and Apple Software Updater on a Windows 7 64-bit system.  My problem echoes those recent postings under the Windows topic.  Yesterday, while runing the updater, I kept getting a blank program box.  Usually it shows what is available in addition to detecting updates for what one has.  Yesterday this page was not available; so I uninstalled both QuickTime and the Updater so I could reinstall them new.  The Repair feature in Add/Remove Programs already failed to fix the problem.  The reinstallation did not work either.  The discovery of this problem is disappointing because this aspect of Apple's Windows software was efficient to the extent that sometimes it was the only way to install an update.  Still, I can use QuickTime to detect its available updates; but can we expect Apple to fix this problem?

    SOLVED IT
Right click on Apple Software Update in the Start Menu and bring up the Properties Window
    Select the Security tab
Select your Username (don't worry about what rights the computer Administrators group has, it does not apply here) and select Edit
After you pressed Edit, you should have a Window that shows all the computer groups (Administrators, etc.) and usernames (yours and other users (if any)) on your computer. Select yours.
Change your Rights to Full Control, press OK.
Press Apply, applying the changed settings to Apple Software Update, then press OK to close the Properties Window.
You can now run Apple Software Update and see what programs (updates) there are to download. For some reason, the latest update which came down gave the computer user (in this case, you--meaning pitiful us) no rights other than deleting. This meant that we could not see anything--no updates, nothing. What we just did through this list was give the ability back to the user.

  • ITunes 5 Won't Install -- Hangs on Unscheduling Apple Software Update

    Windows 7 64bit
Trying to update from last version to new version.  Install goes until it hits the part where the dialog box says "Unscheduling Apple Software Update," the green bars goes a partial way, stops, retreats.  Another dialog box appears and says "There is a problem with this Windows Installation Package.  A program required for this installation could not be run.  Contact..."
Then it backs out and reverts to the original/last iTunes version.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanx!

    Here's the deal -
    1.  can you install itunes via the APPLE SOFTWARE updater?
I couldn't  so I downloaded ITUNES and tried to install it that way.   Hence  I got the same error hang as you.  Nothing worked,  (Multiple attempts at uninstall reinstall,  stopping of Services,  Reg cleaners  etc..)
    2.  If answer is NO to #1 you must fixe the APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE Program.
OK  so I couldn't find a Download for this.   But:  if you have WINRAR,  open the ITUNES.EXE and extract the APPLESOFTWAREUPDATE.MSI file.  Execute the APPLESOFTWAREUPDATE.MSI separately.   And you will not be able to install it and have a similar issue as per your Itunes install.   This of course leads you to believe that the Itunes.exe  install is also installing all of these components including the applesoftwareupdate silently.   It must BOMB at that portion of the install and you are done.
    3.  Your goal now is to get the applesoftwareupdate installed.   How do you do this.  Well -  here is what I did.
      a.  downloaded and RUN a PC  Installer FIX it tool from Microsoft.  This is a replacement for the older MSI fixer they used to use.
      http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
    b. It will list programs to attempt to fix.
      choose  AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
    c. Once it is done,  then reinstall apple program updater using
    AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
Finally it should install since the Microsoft tool appraently fixed corrupted installation files in your registry for this application.
(Please note:  that I also disabled any apple related services such as BONJOUR or IPOD DEvice RUN:  services.msc to get there -  although this man not be necesarry.)
Hence Launch this APPLE UPDATE SOFTWARE (Click the ICON in your Start menu)  it should list ITUNES
select ITUNES from here and it will update.
KEY HERE is to ONLY UPDATE APPLE Stuff via the APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE program.  If that program is not working fix it.  Then Bingo.
I am sorry to see folks having this problem for weeks.
APPLE,   Spread the word.  PC's can get corruption in the registry on your product should the update be stopped or computer shut off during an update.  etc...   Please improve your software updater program to check for invalid registry upon launching the app.  This will prevent people thinking it is an APPLE issue.  It appears to be a problem on your PC's registry settings for the APPLE Software update.

  • I run Windows 7 and the newest version (10.6) of iTunes will not install. The installer won't even begin, and when I run the Apple Software update, it tells me that iCloud and iTunes have invalid signature.

When I run the Apple Software update, it tells me that iCloud and iTunes have invalid signature and will not be downloaded. When I DL iTunes64setup.exe, the program will not start (there's a bar that flashes but nothing actually begins). I've done everything short of reinstalling Windows to fix this (system resore, unistalling all Apple products, taking down firewall, running Windows FixIt - which either won't find the problem or gives me an error saying that the troubleshooter cannot be downloaded at this time, going into the security features to allow programs without valid signatures, trying to install earlier versions of iTunes). It all started when I downloaded the Decemberists new album on my iPhone, and it wasn't downloading it properly so I connected it to my Dell, but some songs still wouldn't DL - also, the newest OS for my iPhone still won't install via WiFi - and so I uninstalled iTunes first, but nothing is helping. And I don't have any security issues (Norton has checked). Any ideas? I'm at my wit's end after 3 days of this. Thank you.

Ok, so after like 4 days of going through all these different issues, I figured out that several programs weren't downloading, and it was an issue with my wireless connectivity messing up the digital signatures, so if you plug in your comp to the modem and delete your temp files, it should start to work!

  • I'm not able to download Itunes.  I keep getting this Apple Software Update message that states "There is a problem with this Windows installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your package vendor"

Not able to access Itunes store anymore.  Just quit working for no reason.  I've tried deleting Itunes and related components from the Control Panel, but when I try to remove Apple Software Update, I get a message that states "There is a problem with this Windows installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor".  Not sure what this message means.  Am I suppose to contact Apple ?  What is meant by package vendor ?

Apparently it's an itunes issue. I just tried to update and got the same issue. Called att to activate my iphone 4s and they say they can do the swap but apple is telling them itunes is down atm.  So will have to wait

  • I am trying to update to iTunes 10.5 and am getting a Apple Software update error. "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. ??

I am trying to update to iTunes 10.5 and am getting a Apple Software update error. "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. ?? I can't uninstall the Apple Software Update from my Control Panel. It states "Fatal error during installation" Please HELP!!!

I am experiencing the exact same issue during the installtion process for iTunes 10.5.
I uninstalled all Apple components but when I attempted to uninstall the Apple Software Update I received the same message: "Fatal error during installtion." I was able to repair the Apple Software Update but still could not install iTunes 10.5 afterwards.
I have tried everything that I could find on these discussions pages as well as other suggestions on third party sites. I continue to receive the error message: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
I was able to uninstall and reinstall QuickTime 7.7.1. During the reinstalltion process I received the same message (There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.) But after clicking "OK" the installtion process was succesful. PLEASE HELP!

  • Unable to install itunes 64it, on windows 7, stops at "unscheduling apple software update"

The installation goes on fine, until it begins the "unscheduling apple software update" proccess,  at which point I get a message saying; "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run.
    Any ideas anyone?

When I hit repair for it I get a message saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable",
And when I tried uninstall, it occurs exactly as the original error.
So this is probably damage to the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi (or associated gubbins in the Windows Installer Service installation database for ASU).
Let's try clearing away the existing broken ASU, and seeing if that lets us get iTunes in.
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp and restart the PC. Download a fresh iTunes installer from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does that install go through any better?
