Apple solved cd/dvd data burning in Leopard yet?

I've read with interest all the other folks who have had issues burning cds/dvds in Leopard. I was recently trying to burn dvd data discs with my backups of photographs and I've been getting the dreaded 0x8002006E error message at the very end of the verification step. When I put the discs back into the computer, they will not load and are kicked back out. I hope apple patches this soon as both my machines have Leopard and will have to find another machine to burn my backups apparently.

ddrescue
If the disk is damaged, ddrescue might also be useful. To install ddrescue:
emerge ddrescue
To read the disk, or at least what can be read of it:
ddrescue /dev/dvd DVD.iso DVD.log
If ddrescue reports errors, try a second pass with direct disc access activated:
ddrescue -d -r1 /dev/dvd DVD.iso DVD.log
Example output:
Press Ctrl-C to interrupt
Initial status (read from logfile)
rescued:         0 B,  errsize:       0 B,  errors:       0
Current status
rescued:   458027 kB,  errsize:    337 MB,  current rate:    1511 kB/s
   ipos:   795410 kB,   errors:    6221,    average rate:    1495 kB/s
   opos:   795410 kB
ddrescue also maintains a log file, so it is possible to pause and resume the rescue process.

Well, cdrtools did solve my problem with multisession disks, and according to Wiki it's a first thing to try if you have problems with cd/dvd burning.
Note: If you face any issues with cdrkit, it is recommended to install cdrtools from the AUR (cdrkit is a fork of cdrtools). cdrtools is being actively developed and supports CD, DVD and BluRay burning along with complete CDRWIN cue/bin support. cdrtools does not depend on cdrdao.
Though there is no guarantee it'll actually solve your problem, I think you should try it.

I use my iphone 5 to record home videos. I have an apple tv but dvd burners dont have a hdmi plug in. Any suggestions on how i can burn videos from iphone 5?
I had a av cord that plugged into the iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 but its not compatible with the 5 connector. Right now i have to email myself the videos in small segments and open and save on the iPad 2 to burn them.  Is there an easier way to burn these from my iPhone 5 or through air play on apple tv?
    Thanks

Connect the phone by USB to the computer, import with image capture, iPhoto or whatever application you use to import movies, drop it into iTunes.

  • Burning DVD data discs?

When I insert a blank CD-R in my Superdrive(tm), the blank disk appears on my desktop, making it easy to drag and drop files to it to be burned.
Blank DVD+R discs don't show up on my desktop, however. Is that by design? I'm guessing I could still burn a DVD data disc by using a burn folder, correct? Is there a better way?
I know the disks I'm using are compatible with the Superdrive because I've successfully burned DVD movies to those disks using iDVD.
    Thanks.

It is possible that when you insert a blank DVD, it is set to open up in a specific application (maybe iDVD). Open up system preferences, click on "CD & DVDs" and make sure that the category "When you insert a blank DVD", the drop down menu is on "Ask what to do" so that you have the option of opening it in the finder.

  • Select multiple playlists for burning to DVD Data disc?

Hi, i need to burn about 5 playlists to a DVD Data Disc for temp backup, iTunes only is allowing me to select one playlist at a time. Of corse one play list is about 300 meg and this is totally wasteful of a DVD.
Anyone know how to burn multiple playlists to a single disc? maybe some other app can read iTunes's playlists and provide burning?
I want each playlist to create a self titled folder on disc with the tunes in each.
    Thanks

    Hi man, good idea.
Unfortunately, in iTunes, the "Burn Data Disc" button disappears when the folder is selected, in addition to the burn menu item. The burn button reappears when a single playlist inside the folder is selected, unfortunately again, more than one playlist cannot be selected.
It does appear iTunes can burn only 1 single playlist to a disc or the entire library and nothing in between which is very problematic for me right now.
Sadly the "Back Up to Disc" option in the File menu provides the following options :
"Back Up entire iTunes library and playlist"
"Back Up only iTunes Store purchases"
This appears also to be useless.
Toast 8 won't import exported iTunes XML playlists either and just burn the tracks in each playlist to a folder on the disk.
Suppose we need "iTunes Pro" to do something simple as I require :-((

I bought the external DVD player/burner for my Macbook.  I tried using it with my Dell laptop but it will not work.  Is it not configured to work with anything but apple operating systems?

If you purchased the Apple USB SuperDrive, it will only work with select Apple devices. It won't work, for example, on my Late 2011 model that has a SuperDrive built-in, but it will work with an Air, Retina model, new 'drive-less' iMacs, etc.
As far as I know, though, you can only hack the drive to work with some other Apple devices, but not with Windows PCs. Which is a shame as other, less expensive DVD/CD devices will work with just about any machine.

  • Is it true that only Apple DVDs will burn an iDVD project?!

I'm using ESA DVD-RWs and I bought 100 of them. What gives? Will these disks work?

DVD-R is most compatible with stand-alone DVD players. Some brands are more reliable, such as Verbatim DVD-R. Burning at 4X or slower is a safe bet for added compatibility.
The last format I would use is DVD-RW or DVD+RW...
My reliable DVD-Rs have been: Apple 4X (Maxell ID), RiTek 4X; Verbatim 1-8X, RiData 8X, and PioData 8X, all white inkjet printable. The RiData and PioData checked out to be RiTek-made.
Verbatim is reliable and can be found in many stores in the USA. They even make a special grade for medical records.
You can buy the RiTek, RiData, and PioData at:
    http://www.shop4tech.com/
Verbatim may be available in your neighborhood store or:
    http://www.taperesources.com/
    http://www.newegg.com/
Apple brand can be purchased from the Apple online store.
You can check the manufacturer's ID by using DVD Media Inspector: http://homepage.mac.com/raktajino/dvdmediainspector/dvdmediainspector.html
You could wade through this: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia
From that database: Five brands and who actually manufactures the DVDs:
TDK = TDK, RITEKG04, RICOHJPN, MXL, CMC, MCC
Memorex = CMC, RICOHJPN, PRODISC, INFODISC
Imation = CMC, MCC, Ritek, Prodisc
    Sony = MCC 01RG20, Sony04D1, TYG01
    Fuji = FUJIFILM02..4X, FUJIFILM03..8X, ProdiscF01..8x, ProdiscS03..4x, PVC001001..2x, RITEKG03..1x, TAIYOYUDEN..2x, TYG01..4x, TYG02..8x
This can result in "mixed" experiences...
My friend used TDK on his Mac and it wouldn't play in his 5 year old Sony DVD player. All of mine play OK in his "antique" Sony. Update: He finally gave up on that antique and bought a Sony DVPNS775V http://ww1.onecall.com/PID_22332.htm which also plays double-layer DVD+R.

  • DVD's burning low contrast

Why are my DVD's burning in low contrast (with a lifted pedestal/black level)?
The contrast is higher when viewing the movie on Quick time and iDVD player.
    Any thoughts? Drive? DVD's?
    I'm using Maxell printable DVD's.

That indicates a conflict or corruption in the original account. To resolve that is laborious and time-consuming. While logged into the newly created admin account, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option, recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly.
See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4703015 for more details on this process.

  • Re-installing iTunes to install DVD/CD burning software

When I load iTunes, a message come up saying that there is no component to allow DVD/CD burning....could be cause by installing other DVD/CD burning software and to re-stall iTunes. I have re-installed twice and re-booted and still get the same error message. I am trying to back-up my iPod library and can't burn to disk through iTunes. In addition, I find that my iTunes library now has about 40% of the tunes with an exclamation point next to the song list and if I try to play it, as error message comes up saying file can't be found. That's why I want to back up my iPod before I try to load my music from my iPod back onto my computer. HELP! Any ideas about how I can solve these problems?

  • HIDE DVD Studio Pro with Leopard (COMMAND H)

Greetings all. Searched and can't find this in the forum.
Has anyone noticed that trying to "HIDE DVD STUDIO PRO" using Leopard 10.5.4 and DVD SP 4.2.1 seems to be impossible!
I never saw this behavior using Tiger and we've been on Leopard for a long time now but I thought I'd post this.
I know I can Command-TAB to switch apps but not being able to send it to the dock is a real nuisance!
Anyone else seen this? Perhaps the boys and girls at Apple can add this to their bug fix requests?
    Regards,

I've had the same thing happening with both After Effects and DVDSP for a while now. It seems to happen after using the app. for a while. A restart of the app. will often solve the problem - not that I bother to do that. Both apps. seem to diff. from the standard Apple app. "skin" (if one can call it that) and maybe there are issues in this regard. Been using 10.5.2 since it came out and recently upgraded to 10.5.4 (installed Pro Tools, and it was required). Same thing.
I mostly use Option-clicking to hide apps, and it seem to work more often than Command-H (AE is Option-Command-H).

  • DVDs I burn look like crap. Quality is horrible, but looks great in iMovie.

So I have a few movies I have put together in iMovie. One was imported using an HD camera, one from MiniDV. I have made edited movies of this footage, some adding text and what not, and some just raw footage. When I have exported these movies to YouTube or just Quicktime files to be emailed or posted on the web, they look great, like normal. When I burn them to DVD using iDVD, when played back on the regular TV or on another computer, the footage looks like crap, even though the animated menus look great.
I export the movie using the Media Browser, in Large format, and load them into iDVD that way. When I play the file in iDVD, it still looks great. The only time it looks bad is when the DVD is burned. The footage looks as though it has a "slow shutter" effect on it. The quality is crap, and the footage looks like it's gone through generation loss, uploaded to YouTube then re-burned to a DVD.
    Why is this happening?

I also have this problem and am trying to find a solution.
I shoot 1080i on a sony hd cam (minidv), then import and edit in FC Express using the apple intermediate codec 1080i60 and export to QT as a NON-independent file using same settings. The final movie file is 1920x1080 which is dragged into iDVD '08 and burned at "professional quality".
When I burn to dvd and play on my flatscreen in an sd dvd player, it looks like crap, even down to large pixelations around the text. I know not to expect HD but the SD should look better than this.
Now, when I play this in my macbook's dvd player, it looks better than the tv. But this is played at actual size which is only about 1/4 of my screen whose resolution is 1920x1200. I will select the "actual size" mode on the dvd controls. So why is iDVD making a 1080 movie to a ~400 movie?
ANy suggestions are appreciated and if anyone knows if DVD Studio Pro will solve this.
    Aloha:
    -Charlie-

  • DVD multisession burning

I want to burn data on DVD using multisession burning. What I learnt that Tiger OS does not support multisession burning for DVD's. It supports this only for CDs. Moreover if one uses program like iTunes, iPhoto, they also don't support multisession burning on DVDs. I feel irritated that the Apple does not support multisession burning for DVDs. Does anyone have any suggestion in this regard? Could somebody also tell me about any free program that can do multisession burning on DVDs? It would be a great help.
