Apple Spyware?

I have been advised that the Google toolbar in Safari allows Google to monitor and record all web browsing activity. Does anyone know how to diable this? Regards....Richard

Hi Richard,
The link you mentioned refers to the Google Toolbar, which is a separate download for some Windows based browsers - there is no such thing available for Safari (and in that article they mention it's not spyware). The Google search box you see in Safari simply fires off a search request to Google in exactly the same way as if you navigated to the Google page and entered the search there.
I noticed while using an overseas website that they were able to post google ads related to a city near where I lived.
Websites can guess where you are based on the IP address your computer uses to connect to the internet. This is how just about all websites in the world are able to guess where you are and is nothing new.
The next day I noticed google ads on the same site directly related to a google search I had recently made. It seemed somehow they are able to monitor the sites I visit.
At a total guess you went to a site based on a Google search. The ads on the site are probably geared towards people who find their site on the same kind of search criteria.
Either way, it's not spyware on your Mac so you can relax a little.

I doubt that apple team sends this kind of emails. At the best, they may ask you to change your password, but not to reaquest to provide one.

  • Spyware - A Threat to Apple?

I'm a recently converted Apple user, and there's one thing that always concerned me on my PC, but doesn't really pop into my head on a Mac.
Should I be concerned with spyware on a Mac? Is it as almost nonexistent as viruses? (I do have Norton installed)
Is there any software you can recommend for spyware scanning? My PC was riddled with spyware, and seemed that as soon as I got rid of a lot of spyware, it would pop right back up again.

    NittanyAgent,
Spyware infestation is a self-imposed plague, in that your own online behavior is the proximate cause, and not at all related to the operating system you use. (Don't get me wrong: In order to run, the spyware would still have to be coded to run in OS X.)
    You can take preventive measures:
Create a separate administrator account for installing software and updates and make your user account an ordinary, nonadminstrative user.
    Configure your firewall correctly.
Follow Apple's recommendations for maintaining your Mac.
If you still have "Open "safe" files after download." checked in your Safari, you could still conceivably get hit with a drive-by: Uncheck it.
Don't use P2P (Limewire and the like) or visit "dodgy" (unknown, copyright infringing, skanky, etc.) Web sites.
Don't install any program or give any installer your admin password unless you are certain that you know and trust the source.
This will go a long way toward keeping your Mac clean.
I'm not aware of much in the way of spyware for OS X.

  • Spyware in Apple iTunes 5.0?

I've notice my firewall was detecting the follow service trying to access the internet even before I open iTunes. What is this software, and whats is it trying to to do?
    Bonjour Service - Apple Computer, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe
At first I didn't know it was Apple Computer, cause my firewall service didn't know who published it. All that appear was Bonjour Service. Not untill I ran HiJackThis did it tell me who it belong too.

Just notice a website from Apple that explane what Bonjour Service is: http://developer.apple.com/softwarelicensing/agreements/bonjourwin.html
From what I can see this is a P2P type of service in a way that Apple benfits that once a consumers download a song, and another consumer is looking to download the same song, insted of downloading from the Apple Network servers, it downloads the song that another users has from their computer, saving Apple Inc. bandwith, and computer resource. Using the consumer computer has a network P2P. Not good business to be using consumers computers to transfer product Mr. Apple Computer. You should be paying me for using my bandwith.

  • Does Apple offer a Spyware?

I'll cut to the chase. I think my girlfriend is cheating on me. I want to get a software that will record chats, messages, keystrokes and monitor websites that people go to while on my computer. Before I'm you asked, yes I've already asked her if she is cheating and she denis it. But, her behavior seems other wise. I know Microsoft has software for this, but can't find anything that apple sells.

What you are talking about is a clear infringement of civil liberties, and (if you're American) any number of constitutional issues.
Well, surprise, it's completely legal. Large companies use this kind of software all the time to see who is wasting thousands of dollars of the paychecks they get surfing the web for personal use, playing card games on their computer, or whatever else they're doing to waste company time on the company's dollar.
But beyond that, I agree. If the OP is already that concerned about his girlfriend, he may as well call off any type of relationship now.

  • Malware/Spyware on one of my apple devices.

Over the past few weeks I've had all of my financial accounts login failures from one of my computers in my house. Is there any way to track down what might be doing it? Could it be my iphone? I also have a MBP and a MacMini. The latest attempt was this morning between 1153-1154am where 19 attempts to log in to my bank account caused it to be locked up. This has also happened to my mortgage account and stock trading accounts as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can't think of any good reason for that. If you had some kind of malware on your computer, the purpose would be to capture the username and password, so there would be no need to guess at the password and cause 19 failed logins in 1 minute. But having all those login attempts come in on multiple accounts at once, and from your home network, means there's definitely something fishy going on.
Are you using encryption on your home wireless network? (If there's no password, the answer is no.) If not, you should change your wireless router configuration immediately to protect the network with WPA2 encryption. If you are using encryption, but are using WEP, that could be cracked by a knowledgeable neighbor, or even a guy in a van outside, in about a minute. Change it to WPA2.
The reason this is a problem is that, firstly, someone you don't trust could be using your network. Secondly, they could be snooping on your network traffic, and getting enough information to know your usernames on those accounts, but not your passwords.
If that's not it, is there anyone in your house who might have been trying to access those accounts for some reason?

  • Ipod touch can no longer connect to XP following Apple upgrade, HELP !

This is a nightmare. My son has an ipod touch (8gb)purchased a couple of months, and it's been fine until a couple of days ago. I downloaded some music for him, and just about to synch when Apple informed me on itunes of a software upgrade, so naturally I did this. However, it could not complete it saying there was a problem installing the hardware. The ipod then had a permanent picture of a usb cable pointing towards the itunes logo. Itunes no longer recognises this ipod or my own ipod as a device.
I'm not a techhie expert, but I generally know my way around computers, however I could not resolve this.
I called the Apple technical support desk, where I spent 1 hour 45 minutes with 2 different advisors who could not resolve this. We installed and re-installed various components from drivers to itunes to anti virus software, however nothing could change. There was simply no recognition of the ipod at all when connected. It does give a pop up message to restore the ipod, however you can't actually click on the restore button because to have to get rid of the pop up message first, then the screen with the restore facility disappears.
Windows xp is continually popping up a message saying " FOUND NEW HARDWARE WIZARD There was a problem installing this hardware. Apple Mobile USB driver. An error occured during the installation of the device. The system cannot find the file specified."
You then have to click on finish, however the message keeps coming back. We kept going round and round in circles with the technical support people, where it was left that I should start removing programmes on my computer to see if any of those are causing a problem. I have had the same spyware for the last 12 months now and never had a problem before, nor any other programmes.
I booked a genius appointment at my local Apple store today where the assistant reset the ipod to factory settings so it could at least work. I explained the situation, however 15 minutes was never going to be long enough to look into it, and a restore was all they did. Obviously all of my programmes were lost, however when I got home and plugged it back into the computer again, it could not be recognised by itunes and i got the same pop up message. Luckily we have not spent alot on downloads, however my son has lost his music now and it cannot be connected or upgraded. It's under guarantee however a software upgrade by Apple has totally messed my computer up. I really don't know who to turn to now as both the service support and store has not rectified this, something I feel has been caused by Apple.
    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Will Apple cover me if updating to iOS5 on ipod Touch 3rd gen ruins/bricks it?

I have heard stories of some people's apple products not working/bricked after attempting to upgrade to iOS5.
I have a 1.5 year old ipod Touch 3rd gen. No warranty on it from Apple (tho I do have one from Square Trade for ADH, but I called them and they said if it is a software issue, they don't cover it.)
I am very concerned about d/ling the ios5 upgrade and it ruining my ipod touch.  In effect, I will take a device that could fetch almost $200 on ebay (which I could then use to upgrade to a Touch 5gen), and turn it into a worthless piece of junk if I upgrade and it ruins it.
Also, I know that they have released 5.0.1 (beta I believe?) for update.   I still read stories on here from people waiting until now (Nov, a month after it was first released when so many people tried to d/l it and had terrible problems), but now are still getting network timed out error msgs, etc.
So is there ANY protection from Apple if their update should screw my ipod touch??
Should I just wait longer for a final, stable version  of ios 5? (like v5.1)  Or just totally skip the iOS 5 upgrade and stay safe with iOS 4?  I don't know that it is really worth the $200 loss risk to upgrade to iOS5.  (i.e. 3rd gen doesn't have the ability to find and lock/wipe my lost touch, etc.)
I do know that I should:
    1) install itunes 10.5 anew on my laptop  (itunes and syncing WAS done on my tower, until I just got it back from being serviced for some Major problems/virues/malware/etc.  I'm not comfortable using it, as the problems on it included not being able to start Local Services, connect to the internet, no audio services, etc.  The guy says it is booting up and services are working now, but you never know....But i digress...)
    2) be on AC and not battery on my laptop
    3) be hardwired (ethernet) to the internet and not use my wireless connection
    4) turn off Windows 7 Firewall, and disable my PC Tools Spyware Docter with Antivirus.
So, what do you all think? should I wait until later to upgrade to say os 5.1?  Should I even RISK upgrading to iOS5 on a touch 3gen and lose almost $200 cash?  And will Apple give me ANY protection should it ruin my touch?  (I seriously doubt it.)
    Thanks for input.

Before proceeding with the update, it wouldn't hurt to manually back up the iPod in iTunes by right->clicking on it from under the Devices section and choosing Backup.    See this article for more information on what is stored in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
Also make sure that any content you may have synced to the device from iTunes, such as Music, movies, TV Shows, podcasts, etc. are all stored on your computer and in iTunes before updating the iPod's version of iOS.
Otherwise, I would go ahead with the upgrade.  I didn't have any issues with it on my iPhone.

I think the McAfee suite will do the trick when I pay them a one-time fee of $69 or $179 for a year for unlimited support.
Your call of course but IMO a waste of money. Please read this first:
There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.
You may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, useful:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2435
The User Tip (which you are welcome to print out and retain for future reference) seeks to offer guidance on the main security threats and how to avoid them.

  • I believe that I have a keylogger or some sort of spyware installed on my mac, please help!

I followed this procedure to check my files:
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
The following procedure will help whether your system has been modified. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.
I believe that I have a keylogger or some sort of spyware installed on my mac, please help!

  • I,v got a app on my iPhone 4 and it,s saying that their is spyware and my iPhone is not safe at all what do i do it,s always when i go too Facebook this always happens

Like their is someone that is using spyware to get into my iPhone 4 and it;s right up to date one of my security apps is telling me this and it always happens every time i go too Facebook and have like tried too report this too Facebook that someone is attacking me using spyware the app that i,m using is called Fortinet it,s a security companie i,v got a lot of security apps and i know that apple protects me but it,s better too be safe but all these apps and i still got spyware showin up and i don't have a picture of it just believe me this is no bloody joke and just too add this the new updates have really made my iPhone not good at all even my Wifi is not as good now and the iTunes store does not work that well now and please tell me if their is a app that i can use to too stop spyware on my iPhone 4

Unless your iPhone is jailbroken, there is no spyware on it.  There is no way for spyware to be downloaded or installed.  You don't really explain why you think you do.  As far as I can see, the Fortinet app is just an app providing information about their services - it isn't performing any functions on the phone itself.  Not clear what relevance you think the Norton security on your computer has to do with it.
You might want to do something about that bug that is extracting all the punctuation from your writing though.....

  • Mac users running Windows: Innoculate against spyware & virus

I hope this thread I'm going to start is appropriate to this discussion board. I have been a Mac user since 1989 and an Apple user before then. Never a Windows user.
With the new intel macs, I am now using Windows occassionally to run a program (Atlas.ti) that is only made for Windows. I'm using Parallels to rung Windows XP Pro (SP2)I have found, to my horror, that getting infected by spyware and adware is really easy on Windows machines. I rarely use the Windows side to browse but once in a while I do when I'm using Atlas.ti and mostly to sites that are reputable. Just by doing that, I've been infected with spyware that no free anti-spyware program can remove after the fact. Something called "Trojan.cm.small" or something like that. I don't have the exact name.
Because of those problems, I've had to re-create my virtual disk 3 times, each time getting smarter about how to use Windows machines. The following is my latest tip and I wanted to share it. If any of you have better tips, please post to the thread.
    TIP BEGINS:
I’ve had to recreate my virtual disk at least three times, the last time being yesterday, thanks to spyware that none of the free spyware programmes could remove. They could detect it just fine but they couldn’t remove it. And get this, I rarely use Windows and hardly use it to browse on the internet but just the few minutes of browsing on the internet has caused me great problems.
What I did differently than the previous two re-installations is the following:
    1. After (re)installing Windows, I immediately do Windows update and MADE SURE I did NOT browse to ANY other site. I allowed Windows to completely update itself include several restarts and multiple runs of updates.
    2. After that’s done, I installed the following anti-spyware and anti-virus software. All were free except the virus software which was available free to users at my university:
    a. Spybot Search & Destroy
    b. Spyware Blaster
    c. SpywareGuard
    d. Windows Defender Beta
    e. McAfee VirusScan
    3. I installed these programmes one at a time and updated them and performed the appropriate setting changes before proceeding to install the remaining software.
I did a lot of research to determine which anti-spyware programmes to use and determined these were the best according to my research. You can do you own research and I think one of the best ways is to go to a reputable university’s website, type in “Spyware” and see how THEY tell their faculty and students to innoculate their computers against spyware. The sites I used were:
    a. University of California, Santa Cruz
    b. University of Calfiornia, Berkeley
    c. Carnegie Mellon University
    d. University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne
I hope this tip helps Mac users. It’s only since moving to an Intel Mac did I start using Windows and I can’t believe how quickly my computer (the VM side) became infected. As I say, I had to re-install 3 times and each time I became wiser. I hope this is the last time I have to do a complete re-installation.
One last thing, after installing all those anti-spyware and anti-virus programmes, you might find that when installing your own software (in my case, Atlas.ti) might be a problem. It was for me so I ended up turning off all the anti-spyware programmes, installing Atlas.ti, then turning back on the anti-spyware programmes.
I can’t believe why the majority of computer users put up with such a crappy OS system! At least the Mac is my primary OS.

Also I really can't agree with you, when I run those
anti-spyware programs (about once a month) it usually
doesn't find ANY infections. Do you use Internet
Explorer by any chance? The infection rate with that
browser is significantly higher than with others
    (Firefox, Opera, etc).
Yes, one of the problems was running Internet Explorer.
For any Mac user who is just using Windows for the first time, it is intuitive to use the built-in Internet Explorer browser, right? I mean, it should NOT be the problem of the user to determine that using Internet Explorer is a problem. But unfortunately, IE is a problem. Nevertheless, that's a backwards approach which seems a very Windows-centric way of doing things. Can't blame the user for not knowing and using Internet Explorer.
What I've resorted to now is running Internet Explorer only for Windows updates and other Microsoft websites that require it. Everything else I use Opera or Firefox.
By the way, an interesting new service from Microsoft is:

  • How can I detect spyware or keylogger programs directly installed on my computer?

    Hello,
I have a serious problem. My ex had physical access to my MacBook Air and I believe he installed either spyware or a key logger program directly on my computer, as he had administrative access. It could be a program like WebWatcher or Spector Pro. There are a number of programs that allow someone to install this software by downloading it from the internet directly onto your computer.
Unfortunately, I'm a physician whose been involved in reaserch which has classified information on it. It never occurred to me that someone would do something like this, but I am very worried that he has installed something. I recently installed MacScan and Little Snitch to determine if anything was detected.
    MacScan Displayed the following:
Last Spware Scan Run on: Sat 4/26/14 01:15 am
Spyware Detected on Last Scan: 0
Total Spyware Detected in all Scans: 148
I'm unsure if what was detected by Mac Scan were simply cookies.
I also tried Linc Davis' suggestion and here are my results:

    CAN ANYONE HELP ME?
    Thank you so much.

I am adding information from Webwatcher's own site:
    Q. Is WebWatcher easy to use?
    A. Yes. WebWatcher is very easy to use and you can begin monitoring immediately without having to read a lengthy manual. Our web based interface is user-friendly and can be conveniently accessed from any computer in the world with an Internet connection.
    Q. How does WebWatcher compare to other monitoring software?
    A. It's the most powerful and intuitive tool on the market. As the only web-based program, WebWatcher ensures the security of your data while providing you with the flexibility to monitor any computer from anywhere in the world. While some products email data, email is NOT a secure means of transporting information. Anything sent by email is extremely vulnerable, and can be seen by dozens of people before it reaches its destination. WebWatcher, however, uses 128-bit encryption guaranteeing the safety and security of your information.
    Q. Is WebWatcher PC or Mac compatible?
    A. WebWatcher is PC compatible, as well as Mac OS X compatible.
    Q. Is WebWatcher truly invisible?
    A. Absolutely! WebWatcher is 100% invisible. It doesn't run as a service, it doesn't appear in the list of running processes and there are no visible files that can be seen. Not only does WebWatcher work invisibly, but it's also friendly with all known firewall software and hardware allowing you to gather the information you need without raising any red flags.
    Q. How will I know WebWatcher is working?
    A. Just login to your secure online account to see the recorded data. Or you can enter the hotkey sequence on the monitored computer to view the WebWatcher status panel.
    Q. If I buy WebWatcher now, how soon will I receive the software?
    A. Immediately. Within minutes you'll receive a confirmation email that contains the username and password needed to download WebWatcher.
    Q. How do I install WebWatcher?
    A. Within minutes of completing your purchase, you'll receive an email with a link to the Setup Wizard. Just follow the onscreen instructions. Once the Setup Wizard is complete you'll receive a link to download the software. Important: you can complete the Setup Wizard from any computer, but the SOFTWARE MUST BE INSTALLED ON THE COMPUTER YOU WISH TO MONITOR.
    Q. Do I install WebWatcher on my computer or on the computer I want to monitor?
    A. The Setup Wizard can be installed on any computer, but the actual monitoring software must be installed on the computer you wish to monitor. Since WebWatcher is web based, you won't have to download the software onto the computer you'll use for viewing the recorded information.
    Q. Can I use different computers to check what's been recorded?
    A. Yes. Once the software is installed on the computer you wish to monitor, you can view the data from any computer in the world with Internet access.
    Q. Do WebWatcher icons or messages appear on my computer or on the monitored computer?
    A. No. Since WebWatcher runs invisibly, no icons or messages will appear on your computer or on the monitored computer.
    Q. Will WebWatcher email the recorded information to me?
    A. No. Email isn't secure for transmitting information. Any program that emails your data puts your private information at serious risk. WebWatcher offers the only web based monitoring system of its kind. We use 128-bit encryption to ensure the highest level of data security.
    Q. How do I retrieve the information that WebWatcher has recorded?
    A. Just log into our secure web based interface from any computer in the world with a standard web browser. Visit our demo to see actual screenshots of the program.
    Q. Will WebWatcher work on a laptop?
    A. Yes. WebWatcher will record computer activities and upload the data to your account when the monitored computer is reconnected to the Internet.
    Q. Does WebWatcher record emails?
    A. Yes. WebWatcher records emails and you'll be able to see the subject of the email, who sent it, who received it, the time and date email is sent and received, the contents and any attachments. Our email recorder is compatible with all of the most popular email programs including web based email.
    Q. Does WebWatcher record IMs?
    A. Yes. WebWatcher records instant messages. Our software is compatible with all of the most popular instant message programs including AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), MSN Messenger, Windows Messenger and Yahoo Messenger.
    Q. Does WebWatcher record websites visited?
    A. Yes. WebWatcher records websites visited. With just a click, you'll be able to visit the exact website visited and see what was viewed including searches performed.
    Q. Can WebWatcher block websites?
    A. Yes. WebWatcher can both block websites and record websites. When it encounters an Alert Word on a site, it can block that page or take a screenshot for later review. You can also block specific URL addresses.
    Q. Does WebWatcher have a keylogger?
    A. Yes. Our invisible key logger records every keystroke, even when a user is offline.
    Q. Do I need one license for every computer that I wish to monitor?
    A. Yes. An individual license is required for every computer that you wish to monitor. We offervolume discounts for multi-license purchases.

  • Issue with Apple id security

Sorry if this isn't the correct community for this question, none of the others seemed to fit either.
So here is my issue, and I'm hoping someone has advice because so far calling/emailing apple support hasn't helped.
Since July I have been receiving CONSTANT email requests from someone trying to change the password on my Apple Id. I’m not talking about 1-2 emails a month, I’m talking about 15 in August, around 24 in September and an impressive 32 last month and, 13 emails since the 14th. I have reformatted my laptop, changed passwords on everything, virus scans, and spyware scans. At the request of Apple support I started to report the phishing emails, I’ve removed my alternate email. Again at the request of Apple support, I created a NEW email just to use as my new Apple Id and primary email. The guy assured me that the next time the person tried to submit a password reset on my old primary email/Apple Id that it would come back with an error telling the person no account is associated with that email address. Well that guy was pretty much dead wrong, not more than 2 minutes after hanging up with him I received yet another request for my password.
Does anyone have any suggestions ? I’m willing to try anything accept create a whole new Apple Id, because I refuse to purchase my songs/paid apps again !!

oh man, I know exactly what you're talking about. i have a relatively easy to guess apple id email and everybody in the world thinks it's theirs... but once I turned on two-step authentication, the emails stopped completely.  here's a faq about it:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570
once i turned that on, whenever they'd want to reset my password, they would get asked for my recovery key, which they don't have, haha!  victory is mine.
