Apple start page text in arabic

when i open safari for some reason the apple start page has started to display the text of the apple stories in a font that looks like arabic.
the rest of the fonts eg. itune top songs, are all normal english
please help

Make sure you dump the fonts Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic if you have them.

Apple Start page no longer works with Safari 1.3.2?

I just set up an iBook G3 with Mac OS X 10.3.9, with all updates, and opened Safari, which is set to got to the Apple Start page initially:

Safari loads the page, but two areas are blank: the "Hot News Headlines" in the middle of the page, and the "iTunes Movie Trailers" on the left side. No content appears in these areas. If I click on the "All" next to "Hot News Headlines" a page of html-code text appears.
When I load this page in Firefox or Camino, these areas have the expected content: text in "Hot News Headlines" and a picture in "iTunes Movie Trailers".
I know Safari 1.3.2 is pretty old now, and cannot be upgraded to anything later, since it's integrated with 10.3.9; for this reason I recommend using a more current browser such as Camino or Firefox with this System. But I was just wondering: has anyone else seen this behavior? Is Apple's own web page now too much for Safari 1.x to handle?

Yes, Safari v1.3.2 is quite dated by today's standards. And yes, the Apple StartPage doesn't work for me either 100% on Safari v1.3.2.
Most Panther users have migrated to Camino. FireFox 2 is no longer updated for Panther either.
On Panther I use Opera and SeaMonkey.

My apple start page has stopped coming up when I click on safari unless I reboot. Some times no apple website will come up.

Search engines are not clairvoyant. So you have to tell them you exist :
     http://www.google.com/addurl/
You could also have posted the URL in your message.
Google indexes this forum in real-time and would have found your URL within hours.
Then check it with this text in the search field :
     site:yourdomain.com
Where yourdomain is your domainname, if you have one.
Here's mine :

You can also add the URL in the profile's preferences.

Apple start page too small

When I open safari to get on the internet suddenly my apple start up page that safari first opens is only a square size on the scree instead if the usual full widescreen display. Hitting the green +open button in upper left corner doesn't open it up. Every internet page is displayed this way. How do I fill up the whole screen?

Hi Chris,
Mary is right. Once you drag the bottom right corner to the size you want and leave it there, the next time you open Safari, that is the size it will be.
You can put this in your Safari menu bar if you like too...

Then just go into your menu edit area and name what you like.

I have accidentally change my "Apple start-page" to one that does not have "search" window. How do I get back to my original Safari start up page?

I think you may mean the search box on the toolbar. In Safari click on the View menu and select Show Toolbar.
Alternatively, if you mean the 'Home Page' then open Safari -> Preferences -> General and next to 'Homepage' put in the address of the page you want - I'm guessing "http://www.google.com/".

On the start page, text entered in the search field is ignored. Why?

I am using Firefox 21.0, Windows Vista and private browsing. I can search as normal by entering text in another search bar but what is wrong and how can it be fixed?

Type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key to open the about:config page, just like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.
*If you see a warning message then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.
*use the Search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate preferences more easily
*preferences that have been modified and do not have the default value show as bold (user set)
*preferences that are user set (bold) can be reset to the default value via the right-click context menu
*preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean) or by double-clicking the line with the pref
*preferences can be created via the right-click context menu: New -> String, Integer, Boolean

All hyperlinks in pages doc lead to apple start page

All hyperlinks in my doc have defaulted to http://www.apple.com/startpage/ Anyone else have this problem, and is it curable?

Ignore Apple's Help instructions. They are wrong.
1) Create Bookmarks in the usual way: Select text, go to Link Inspector, click Bookmarks, click +
2)Select the hyperlink text, go to the Link Inspector, click Hyperlink, check enable..., SCROLL THE DROPDOWN MENU IN THE "Link To" BOX (it shows "Webpage") until you reach "Bookmark", Now the URL box below will show "Name", scroll down its dropdown menu until you reach your bookmark.

Safari 5.1 cannot load apple start page or store etc

I have reset Safari many times, I have checked the preferences under general that it is set to Safari opens with a new window and do not know how to proceed. I have seen some suggestions for terminal commands and am leary about that and have read an apple page about changind DNS which I am unsure about.
Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you.

It's super easy. Just go back to where you set the Safari preferences to open with a new window; then directly underneath that, you will see "New windows open with: ". Set that to "Homepage"; then cut & paste this > http://store.apple.com/us
or this http://www.apple.com/hotnews/ into the Homepage: field.
Okay, there you go. Now if you prefer a different homepage within Apple's website, then just navigate there, open your Safari preferences and select "Set to current page" as your preferred home page.

Downloaded safari for Mac/Windows and installed. When I click the safari icon I get apple.com/startpage with all the info I would ever want about apple, but no browser. What to do ? Thanks

Safari Apple start page, top sites and history blurry

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? I recently installed a new graphics card HD 6950 and I noticed right away that apple.com on safari as well as top sites and history browser is blurry. It's clear for a split second that slowly becomes blurry in about half a second. Every other site is normal and the video card doesn't have problems on games. Viewing apple.com on IE looks normal also. I've tried installing different drivers but still no luck. Here's a shot of what its like for me:

Go to HD > Library > Internet Plug-Ins
Move the Adobe PDF Browser (or just PDF Browser) plugin to the Trash.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

Error loading part of Apple and Apple Start webpage

I noticed an error in window activity when loading either Apple or Apple Start page. Anyone else see that?

Try maintenance...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
Go to ~/Library/Cookies and move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.
If you search using Google try clearing the Google history.
1. Go to the Safari Menu
2. Select Preferences
3. Select Autofill tab
4. Select the Edit button from the Other Forms Line
5. From the AutoFill list of sites select Google.com
6. Select Remove
7. Select Done
Relaunch Safari...
If that doesn't help, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

How to restore apple as my Safari start page?

DivX Player instaled a Bing - agent in my iMac/OSX 10.7.5, now my start page for Safari is not Apple, but "Bing". I do not want it, I'd like to restore the Apple page.
Any ideas?

2 days ago both mine and my daughter's macs stopped being able to open up the apple start up page, search google, yahoo, facebook and many other sites. Pictures won't download on sites and we are redirected to http://www.website-unavailable.com/main?url=www.apple.com%2Fstartpage&w=1280&h=6 21&ifc=0# with an orange O in front, which is OpenDNS Guide page. We live in NW England, has anyone else had similar problems and any suggestions how we can resolve our problem?

Have you tried another browser (chrome, firefox, and checked your router for blocked websites?) and also quit Safari and reopened? Also reset your cookies (Safari > Preferences... > Privacy ), or reset Safari (Safari > Reset..), or Empty Cache (Safari > Empty).

Never mind...I just figured it out. Restore windows when quitting box in Gen Prefs must be unchecked. To many new little things.
