If I wanted to replace my iPhone 5 at the Apple Store, do I need to bring everything that came with the box, or just the iPhone?

My new iPhone 5 is currently having problems with the wifi. I can't connect to my home network unless I am right next to the router. Even then there are only one or two bars. When I am in a public place like Starbucks, I can't find any wifi networks. I plan on bringing it to the Apple Store and getting it replaced. Can I just get the iPhone replaced, or do I need to replace everything (box, manuals, headphones, etc)?

Core shutdown and apple store repai advice needed!

my air has the intermittent core shut down where one core drops out every couple seconds or even completely shuts off when the fans kick up and the usual. i took it to the apple store where they though i said "computer shutdown" and ran tests... obviously they found nothing since that wasn't my problem. so they call me and i tell them it was a core shutting down, they said they'll do tests again since they know what the real problem is. come today, they said the did stress tests and it was fine, which i know it's not (even a genius said he saw the core dropping when they did first tests). any advice on what to do? they'll also have had my computer for 7 days tomorrow as well... apparently not fixing anything. another small note... my screen is a bit loose and they won't do anything about it as well.
sorry for the long rant, but i don't know what to do at this point and have a reservation tomorrow. thanks for the help!

I would suggest contacting AppleCare and briefly explain your frustration and ask to speak to a senior manager. Be articulate, have all of your facts organized including receipts, case numbers, etc. so when you talk to someone in charge you have your facts in a row. You should be also patient and persistent until you get a solution to your problem.
We are users just like yourself and cannot do anything other than provide some advice.
Had I been you with all the issues you seem to have been experiencing I would have asked to speak to a store manager. However hindsight is 20/20 so that doesn't do any good. If you do decide to go back to one of the stores make an appointment and when you arrive let them know you want to speak to the store manager. Again be articulate, organized and have all your facts ready including ALL documentation.

Ideally yes. It's your machine, loaded with whatever apps you've put on it, some of which may affect or be affected by whatever you do in the workshop. But looking again at your question, you mention both Mac and Laptop. If it is a big 27" mac I would be inclined to call the store and ask.

Hong Kong IFC Apple Store contacts?

Hi, I am a iPhone 6 user in China Mainland. On Sep. 19th, I went to the Hong Kong IFC Apple Store to get the first iPhone 6 in China. The staff there was really kind, and I met the manager there.
However, I really want those photos shot by the Apple Staff. Can anyone give me some instructions?

i looked in august, and the shipping period was 2-4 weeks. i checked again in september, and it is now 2-5 weeks.
i ordered mine on sep 10, and it tells me the expected delivery date is oct 20.

btw, just curious, i used an american credit card to order on the hk site. later i read on the site that they do not accept non-hk credit cards. my order is still there, but i assume when they are ready to ship, and try to charge my card, they are going to find out, and then cancel my order. what was your payment method? and has anyone successfully ordered from the hk aple store using an american visa card?

I'm upgrading to OS X Mavericks because the App Store notified me. I'm still downloading it and it's a long way until I can upgrade it. Do I need to back up the files using Time Machine? I don't have any external hard disks with me right now and I'm worried if my data will lost after upgrade. Please answer. Thank you!

You need to backup files if you are trying to write the new OS X on the previous OS X partition. You will end up loosing all files & data if you replace the Mavericks with the old OS Xon same disk. But if you have another partition ready for the Mavericks then no worries. I did the same when I downloaded 10.9 from Apple. I too had Stellar Drive Clone software ready to backup my entire hdd. Actually, you should have a backup utility for one or many reasons.

Help! MacBook Pro only boots in Safe Mode and runs extremely slow (bonus: happened in Brazil and there are no Apple stores here - I need you guys!)

It's a MBP mid 2010. Last year it had some problems and an Apple authorised shop changed the HD and upgraded the OS from Snow Leopard to Lion. After that it seemed fine. Recently it started getting very slow and apps (e.g. Chrome, Flash) would crash. At some point it seemed stuck so I gave it a hard shutdown - bad idea. After that it would only boot in Safe Mode. I ran repar disk and repair permissions from the Disk Utility and it booted normally again but extremely slow. I upgraded to OS X 10.8.2, but didn't solve it. I tried booting with Command D to have a hardware diagnostic - it wouldn't boot and now it only boots in Safe Mode.
All data is backed and I have an external HD (but not an OS X Disc). Ready to anything. Help please!

Also you can perform #1 and #2 as these occur before Safe Mode, so you just reboot again with Shift key if you need to enter Safe Mode again.
At this point it sounds like your hard drive is dying or some sort of other hardware issue which I can only advise this.
Try to install OS X on a external drive and boot from it, if it's fine then you know your internal boot drive is dying.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
You can replace your internal drive yourself.
OtherWorld Computing is pretty good about providing drives and tool kits to perform that function yourself.

There are three models of MacBook that comprise the 'macbook 4.1' category, and each of them a little different; however other than 'macbook 4.1' the other thing they have in common is they all are considered Early 2008. Two are white, one black, polycarbonate case, Core2Duo 2.1GHz, 2.4GHz white, 2.4GHz black.
So if you can determine which one, if any of these, is the model build year and spec you have, that would be handy. Did you tell whoever you spoke to the serial number of your computer, so they'd know by looking up the specs to see what the supported maximum RAM upgrade capacity was, and other minimum requirements to make any upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.8 at all?
If you have the serial number you can do a lookup to 'indentify by serial number' online, and use that information to determine if the computer needs even more RAM to take it past the minimum for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then get it ready to upgrade (via paid download from App Store, Snow Leopard gets you that far) and see what the next supported OS X full upgrade would be for the hardware limitations on that old MacBook.
If your MacBook IS a 4.1 build, the highest OS X it could run if it has the 2.4GHz cpu, is Lion 10.7.5. That would be an upgrade from the App store, available to OS X 10.6.8+ computers that access it online. And I kind of doubt how supported a newest iphone etc may be in lion.

The Apple? store or whoever you talked, to may have been as accurate as they could be without further research. Could be you may have a newer or older MacBook, which would change whatever later OS X it could run past 10.6.8. And to go past Snow Leopard, you need to download the last bits for 10.6.x to be able to go and get any later upgrade. The ones that may let a newest iphone or ipad work with it, are past SL10.6.8
Anyway, as you further verify the model build year and configuration specifications, report back.

Consider yourself lucky that your MacBook is still working. Now, turn it off. Wine may have damaged other parts of your computer.
Then, take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. It will be a very expensive repair, as it's not covered by warranty and the logic board has to be replaced. In some cases, it may be better to get a new MacBook.

Contacting Apple Store prior to opening?

This may be one of those questions that people will likely just say "you're out of luck" to, but I'll ask anyway in case somebody has had a similar situation. Basically, I live about 45 minutes from the nearest Apple Store but sadly I don't drive due to my disability. I have a ride to the Apple Store, but we need to be there by 10am-ish or very soon after because my buddy needs to be back by early afternoon. I called the Apple Store yesterday and they said they only had 3G models in stock. I want the iPad 16GB WiFi-only, so I asked them if they might have any by Friday (today). The rep. said to call back today. The thing is, they are closed until 10am. Is there any way to call them before 10am to check if they received any iPad 16GB WiFi models in stock?

If the Apple stores are anything like the store I work in, the phone doesn't even ring in the store until it's open. All calls go straight to a recording telling you the hours and which number to press to get to customer service.
Many Apple Stores had a reserve list for the iPads. You put your name on the list, they emailed you when it arrived. I don't recall how long you had to go pick it up, though.
You really might have better luck ordering it online. You won't get it immediately but no one will have to drive you anywhere and it will come right to your door.
