Apple SuperDrive compatibility

Hey,
I was wondering if the Apple SuperDrive is compatible with the Late-2013 iMac?
Thanks
-Zack

Yes.  However the Apple external super drive has only USB 2 capability and is slot loading.  Personally, I prefer a drawer loading drive as it's less likely to jam for any reason.  The unit I bought was Firewire 800 as well as USB 3 capability for faster read capability. I don't have USB 3 so use FW.

I am trying to install a program on my Mac Book Pro Retina from a Apple SuperDrive. Every time I run the installer, it says I do not have enough memory to install. However, I definitely have enough memory (186.74 GB). The program takes only 550 MB. Any ideas why?

Thanks for the clarification on the terms. I consider myself proficent at my computer, but not exactly in its inner-workings! I have 8 GB of memory installed.
I am still confused as to why I do not have any space for the program. This is the exact error message I get: "There is not enough free space on Macintosh HD disk. The Print Shop 2 application requires about 550 MB to be installed. Free some disk space and try again."
Thank you again for your help.

  • How to install Apple Superdrive on MacBook Pro 17" OS 10.9.1 ???

Want to use an external Superdrive on my MacBook Pro 17" / OS 10.9.1 when burning a bunch of DVD's etc. so as to not put too much wear and tear on my internal.  How to?

Also as a secondary need... is it posible to use two Apple Superdrives simultaneously for burning?  Online forums say yes, but not real clear on the how?

  • How can I extract a bent CD from an Apple Superdrive?

A bent CD has jammed in my Apple Superdrive. How can I extract it?

Here's a list of generally accepted approaches:

Depending on the Mac model you have, there may be other approaches, and there is always the Final Solution of cracking the case, pulling out the superdrive, and mucking with it directly. But don't go there unless you have to and/or are feeling a bit crazy.

  • Help, I have an imac 11.1 with an optical dvd burner. It has died. What external dvd burner willl work? I tried the apple superdrive but it was not recognized.

I have an imac  11.1 running 10.6.8. The internal optical drive has stopped working. I ordered an apple superdrive and it did not reconize it. What external drive can I hook up?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The Apple USB SuperDrive is only compatible with Macs without built-in SuperDrive (Mac mini, MacBook Air, the Late 2012 iMac and the MacBook Pro with Retina display). However, you can make it to work on your Mac > http://www.tuaw.com/2012/04/02/use-the-macbook-air-superdrive-with-any-almost-ma c/
Any external optical drive will work with your computer

  • Installing software on Macbook Air using Apple superdrive

The Apple superdrive I have will not install Office:mac 2011 or iWorks on my new Macbook Air. It plays DVDs without problems but when I installed software discs the icons show but nothing further happens.

Wondering if anyone can advise me on where I'm going wrong..
I've tried to install Windows XP Professional with service pack 2 (original disk) on my Macbook Air, with SuperDrive, but keep on getting this message after the first part of the installation is complete: "Disk error, Press any key to restart" (pressed any key but wouldn't do anything).
Here is what I have tried:
    1. Opened Boot Camp and split the partition in half (even tried 32GB)
    2. After this process is complete, Boot Camp asks to insert the Windows CD, did this and pressed OK.
    3. The system rebooted in Windows Installer
    4. Asks where I want to install Windows, I selected C:/ (BOOT CAMP) FAT32
    5. Copies all of the Windows setup files
    6. Then tells you the system will restart after 20 or so seconds, and if you want to restart press ENTER
    7. The system restarts, but in Mac OSX. I've then tried the whole process again, and when it restarts I hold down the Option key.
    8. A boot menu appears giving 3 options: 1. Mac OS, 2. Windows, 3. Windows CD
    9. I select Windows CD (also have tried Windows)
    10. Blank screen appears and says: Press any key to boot from CD....
    11. I dont press anything then the message appears: "Disk error, Press any key to restart"
Can anyone help me to solve this please?
    Thanks in advance.

  • HT201788 What speed disks should i use in an Apple Superdrive

What speed disks should i use in an Apple Superdrive?
    Thanks

It matters little. The slower the burn speed, i.e. 2x or 4x, the better the burn.
What is important is the brand of media: most of here recommend Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden.

  • Can the apple superdrive connect and be used on an imac?

Can the Apple Superdrive be used with an iMac?

Apple's USB SuperDrive requires more power than is normally allowed for an USB device, and therefore isn't intended for Macs which shipped with an internal one. If you want, you can get it to work by editing one of the computer's plist files.

    Hi,
Not sure you can do anything about this. I get vaiable import speeds - a lot depends on the actual disc. The Read Write spec is 24X but I rarely see speeds close to this.

  • Do I need an Apple Superdrive to burn DvDs on my Macbook Air?

I have tried numerous Internet applications and none of them have worked. I have an ASUS export drive but whenever I try to burn, it just burns the data and not the actual movie.

To add to the post above. It is not the drive you are using, any external dvd drive will work on any computer. As above you need a special program to burn movies to a dvd disc so they can be played in a dvd player.
Oh I meant any dvd drive other than a apple superdrive. Apple has restricted those to only work on certain mac computers, the airs models being one of them. But any other brand will work fine on any computer.

Connectez-le via les ports USB à l'arrière. En fonction de la machine sur laquelle vous avez, il pourrait ne pas être compatible avec le poste SuperDrive Apple.

  • DVR-111D vs Apple Superdrive

I'm planning to ad an internal DVR to replace the CD drive. My current thought is to buy either a Pioneer DVR-111D or an Apple Superdrive, which is really a Pioneer DVR-109 with Apple's native burning capabilities pre-installed. I know that to burn dual layer DVDs I will need to use Patchburn on either of the drives, and that replaces the pre-installed Apple native burning capabilities on the DVR-109.
Does anyone have an opinion on the better choice of the two drives? I know the DVR-111D is a newer model, but will that really be any kind of advantage in my old B&W g3? I really don't know what the limitations of my G3 are in this regard.
    Thanks.

I can't comment on the DVR-109 but I have a DVR-111D and couldn't be happier with it. I paid $38 Canadian for it at a PC store. I pluged it in and it just worked, very Apple. I did not install PatchBurn. It shows up in System Profiler/Hardware/Disk Burning as follows:
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D
    Firmware Revision: 1.19
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn support: Yes (unsupported)
    Profile Path: None
    Cache: 2000 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write -R, -RW
    DVD-Write -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Stratagies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
I haven't yet burned a double-layer DVD yet but the format shows up under DVD-Write and the option shows up when choosing to burn in Toast. I have burned with both iTunes (music CDs) and Disk Utility (DVD images)--no PatchBurn required. It boots OS install disks, and is one of the few bits of hardware that you can get at an ElCheapo PC store that you can put into an Apple. I tried several Apple stores, none of them carried them. They had lots of $150 LaCie drives though (hmmmm). Don't tell anyone but there is no difference between the 111-D and the Superdrive, except for the price. Besides adding more memory to your G3 it's the most usefull/cost effective piece of hardware you can put into a G3.
    Burn on....
P.S. It works in OS 9.2.2 and 8.6 too (no DVD read in 8.6 just CD)
